Terry and Al were a god send. I took my girlfriends Honda into a local Honda dealership to get her car checked out due to over heating. They came back to us and said it was a heater core issue and they wanted to charge us $2000 to replace it. We brought it to Terry’s shop and they took it in same day. Terry and Al checked the car out for free. They told us the heater core was fine and that they couldn’t see anything wrong with the car. They were amazing. 100% honest and genuinely cared to make sure her car was fine after we took it back home. Terry even called a couple days later to make sure the car was still running fine. He did all this without even being paid or asking for a single dollar. He has a new customer in me for as long as I live in North County. Would HIGHLY recommend this shop!!!

They were able to see me immediately after I called to come in. My rear brakes occasionally make a noise when the brake is softly applied (2009 Toyota Yaris). I met Al when I drove in. He checked it out quickly and told me the only issue was a bit of rust in the front brakes and some dirt. He said I didnt need anything replaced unless the noise bothered me. 0 upselling, 0 pressure. When I tried to pay it turned out a check like this was free. Excellent, honest customer service.

We utilized Terry’s services to maintain our automobiles way back in the days of “Terry’s Nissan” in the 90’s and 2000’s, until we moved to the midwest in 2008. Finding ourselves back in California (although several hours north in Santa Barbara county), I took our 2014 Honda CR-V in to Terry’s for a brake job, an oil change, an electrical sensor malfunction, and transmission service that had been recommended by a Honda dealership. In just over an hour, Terry and Al had the oil changed and the electrical malfunction repaired (which had been caused by an animal gnawing through the “edible” insulation on a sensor wire...). They also informed me that the brake pads had significant (30%) useful life remaining and that transmission service was not needed/recommended for many more miles in the future. It is a rare and valuable discovery to locate an automotive repair shop where you are treated fairly, your car is repaired/maintained with utmost precision and attention to detail, and you can drive away realizing that you have done business with honest people. Terry and his staff continue to operate just that kind of business!

So I went to Terry last week due to the reviews, I had made a call in search of help with my 08 Pathfinder. The compressor had gone out early summer and since I was jobless there was no rush to fix it. I drove maybe 4 times in 5 months. I recently started commuting again for work and noticed that the compressor was making a very loud grinding sound.I called to find out how much theyd charge to look at it. I had previously taken my car to an air conditioning specialist and they charged $100 to tell me the compressor failed and wanted $960 to replace it. But due to the grinding sound becoming more consistent, I wanted to ensure my car was still safe to drive. I was told they didnt charge so I took it in.After Terry and his crew looked at it, they confirmed that the sound was still coming from the compressor, however the bearings were so worn causing the loud noise. I was quoted $860 and told that it was indeed dangerous to drive due to the possibility of the pulley on the compressor coming loose and causing my belt to come off/break. I declined as Im less than a month at my new job and only working part time. Upon picking up my vehicle, Terry noticed that I was recently married as I still had the writing on my car windows. We had a easy/cheap zoom wedding.I contacted Terry the following day curious if I had alternatives to bypass the compressor, they mentioned a few things that were possible and Terry mustve overheard and told them to let me know hed call me back.I speak to Terry later and he then offered to do it for less as a wedding gift for myself from him and his crew and to help with my situation.I was so thankful, as you can imagine Im still so very grateful to have found Terry as Im an LA native and in the 3 years in North SD havent needed to use a mechanic, but now I will look no further. As long as Im in North SD, Terry and his guys will be my go to guys. Within 6 days my car was good as new and theres nothing like amazing A/C after not having it for months.THANK YOU TERRY AND YOUR CREW. YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW APPRECIATIVE I AM. THANK YOU!

Terrys Auto is great!! Terry does all the office and billing as the owner and he is straight shooter who will tell you how it is. His prices are great and he gives you the details and lets you take control over how you want them to proceed. My whole family has been coming to him for years and I cant imagine going anywhere else. No more feeling pressured or wondering if youre being taken for a ride. Al is his right hand man and he is also a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend giving Terrys a try for anything from a simple oil change to big problems. Even asking for a second opinion from him would be well worth your time.

I came in to get my 1989 Bronco ii repaired. at first they told me the could work on it on Wednesday (today is Monday th 4th jan 2021) when i went to the office to get put on the calendar who ever the guy in the picture is was extremely rude and yelled that he would not work on my vehicle that it was too old extremely unprofessional

Great place to take your car you really get service thats hard to find with large dealerships. Not to mention Terrys prices are usually much better and they get the job done right the first time. This is my goto place for my car even for oil changes.

Ive been going to Terrys for about 2 years. I read reviews about his shop when I needed to maintain my car. Who wants to go to a new mechanic? Not me. But this shop has like 500 5 star reviews on Yelp! Never heard of that. Now I know why. Terry is always an open book. He gives it to you straight, the good and the bad. His prices are fair and he always makes good suggestions for future maintenance without being sales-y. Like something you Dad or big brother or really good mechanic sister or Mom would tell you. Ive also called him about a car I was thinking of buying. He gave me some sage words of advice and I appreciate that sort of availability and insight. Car wouldnt start. Jump started and it worked ok. Called Terrys to see if I could have it towed there worked ok so I didnt go to repair shop. Terry called next am to see if ok. Said bring it In. For free check up. Terry! and he said need a new battery even though the one I have is pretty.new. he suggested to return it for a new one. Thanks terry!

I was stranded in North County because my truck broke down on the way to work today. I live in San Diego, and have my own auto shop there, but didnt know anybody in North County. I pulled up Google Maps, and Terrys Auto was only a few blocks away. After reading his Yelp reviews, I decided to call him. He was very nice on the phone and told me he thought it was my alternator. He told me hed have my truck towed over, and then give me a free diagnosis. Wanting to make sure his prices were okay, I called my trusted auto repair place in San Diego (Hillcrest Auto) and got a quote from them. His quote was very close to the same price, so I had him repair it. Once I dropped off my truck at his shop, he even had one of his employees give me a ride back to work, a half a mile away, so I didnt have to walk! That was awesome! Terry seemed like a really nice guy, and his service and prices were excellent. Id definitely take my truck back to him again if I lived in North County!

I have been going to this corpulent mechanic for 23 years. I have received nothing but the best service and prices. The owner or his staff explain everything in lay terms that are understandable. I can usually get in the same day for routine maintenance. Emergencies or breakdowns are dealt with immediately. Terry will outsource some work, but it is done expediently. He also has referred me to a nearby business that performs excellent body work and paint matching. I have never been able to beat his tire prices. Convenient afterhours drop off is available. You can frequently wrangle a ride out of him.I never go to the dealer for overpriced service.

Honest genuine service. They took a look at my car and gave me the honest review that paying for works to the vehicle was not in my interest. And for this check up, they charged me... nothing. Although the news was bad I appreciate the fact that they did not charge me for their professional opinion when other mechanics may well have. Their customer service was brilliant. I will use these again... Once I have a car that works.

Only over 2006 so, I have to sale this car because is 2004 (dont pass to Mexico) this kid bring my car over this place hi say the car have leak & Bunche problems.I dont going to risk the life of my son.Car is en very good mechanic condition, pass smog on Jan this year, and i know well be pass today too.I know how run a mechanic shop,I have very good reviews @ that time. As a female, I am always worried about getting taken advantage of by auto mechanics. I had heard about Terrys Auto Specialists from various friends. They all loved the way business was done but most of all, they loved the honest prices and great work. I have taken several of our cars there over the years. I have NEVER had a problem after I got them repaired. I actually compared his prices to the places I used to take my car and was stunned at the more reasonable costs..Once they even called me the next day to make sure the problem was taken care of!This shop does not have all the glamor of dealership repair shops. what it has is honest and great service..without that overhead. I never have felt taken and have referred many friends to him. Sometimes having a good repair place for your car is better than having a good doctor!

From the times that Ive gone in from your basic oil change, to having diagnostic work and warning indicators checked out, these guys were friendly, fast and efficient. They didnt try to upsell me or tell me I needed random things, these guys provided me my options and went with it. The shop manager was also friendly and helpful as well. He seemed very proficient in his line of work and even tried to explain the differences in various things, which I still dont understand, but the point is he tried. He really went above and beyond. I give these guy a 5, but the scale only went to 3. Ill be back for sure!

Terry is a great guy, totally honest and truly serves his customers well. Ive taken my autos to a bunch of different places, and even though Im not as close to Terrys as I used to be...Im still taking my cars to Terry because its worth the extra drive to know that Im getting the straight skinny on whats going on. He has NEVER overcharged or done anything other than exactly what needed to be done. If there something that drives me NUTS it is the upselling or saying something is broken when its not, and Terry doesnt do that. Terry has a great sense of humor and will always take the time to talk with you when youre in the shop. Totally recommend Terry!!!!

Terry is a typical CROOK mechanic! He charges 4xs the cost of parts,He charged me $240.00 for spark plugs and wires I could buy them from Auto zone for 55.99. He charged me 290.00 for a gasket kit that that was only 170.00 at auto zone and I know he gets these parts cheaper than what auto zone sell for because he is a shop. Basically for what I had done parts ran $678.65 out the door at auto zone and they where gonna knock 20% off the parts for buying so much at once. They also broke my crank pulley and then wanted me to pay $300.00 for it. The job was supposed take three or four days 12 days later I had my truck. He is extremely rude, does work without authorizing it, doesnt do things he says he will. I usually do my own work, for this very reason,but I was in a time crunch. If I had to I would take my truck to Pep-boys before I would go to him again and I went to him on a reference from my business partner. This guy should be out of business he gives no warranty on his work,over charges and he is very condescending, I will be reporting him to the better business bureau, blogging all possible venues on the internet, and I will also be paying a sign spinner to stand on the corner near his shop stating Terrys Auto is a crook. If you are thinking about using him I recommend looking elsewhere, because if you go to him you WILL be getting hosed. Research your mechanic before you go to them.

Took a pre-purchase F-150 to Terry for an inspection and he pointed out a few concerns after doing a test drive and putting on a lift. He recommended i take it to Ford and pay them to look it over. I asked how much for his service snd he told me it was free but I wanted to pay for him. I offered him $100 but he said nope.. just send some business his way.I wslked out scratching my head but went back in and offered $50 to Manny one of his mechanics. I told him go get you and the guys a few beers after work but he said no, its ok. What type of auto shop doesnt take your money.. huh, I dont know if I trust these guy😋

Great service, and good prices. I had taken my old beater to get smogged at another establishment, and those guys gave me a whole list of things that were supposedly wrong with it. I wasnt about to drop all kinds do of money just like that, so I took it to Terry for a 2nd opinion. They kept the car to assess it; they went through the list and called me back to say they didnt really see any of the issues the smog place had listed. Terry said to me if you really want to make all those repairs, basically drop about $1500 in your car, Ill do it, but the car doesnt really need it. So I didnt get the stuff done, but his honesty made me go back two other times for legitimate reasons. So now I know where to go when I need repairs.

I can confidently say that Terry is the best mechanic in Southern California for classic Datsun/Nissan cars. I have been bringing my classic daily driver to him for several years now, and he always manages to produce the best quality work at an affordable price in a timely manner (which is not easy to do for a car that is over 40 years old). His workmanship has been instrumental in slowly bringing this old car back to life as a reliable driver. Since I started bringing the car to him, I have received compliments on how well the car runs every single day, sometimes from other old Datsun owners that cant believe how well it runs compared to their vehicles. I wouldnt trust anybody else to work on this car other than Terry and his shop.I realize that few others drive classic Datsun cars, but I will also say that based on his skills and professionalism, I would bring any car of any make I owned to Terry first before going anywhere else. He always goes the extra mile, and is always honest about what your car needs and when your car needs it.
