I know SLO Smiles is well-known and loved by many in San Luis Obispo but I only recently made the switch and couldn’t be more pleased. Earlier this month I had my first appointment with Dr. Ian Leopold and it was immediately apparent why this practice has such a loyal following. Dr. Leopold and his knowledgeable assistant Gena were exceptionally patient with my every question and kindly brought me up to date on all the latest advances and treatment options available for my aging gums and teeth. Their willingness to listen to my reticence with empathy and understanding not only lightened my concerns but opened me to treatment possibilities I hadn’t previously considered.SLO Smiles IS the best - it’s no wonder they’ve won “Best of SLO” three years straight!

I love this dentist office. Before I went to SLO Smile I had trouble fainting when the dentist numbed my mouth. Since going to SLO Smile IAm completely over my fear of having dental work. Their equipment is the latest making it possible to catch a tiny cavity before it becomes a big problem. They have very little turn over in staff over the 15 years I have been going there. Just completed my first appointment at SLO Smiles and I will never go anywhere else! Dr Main and Brittany were super thoughtful with answering all of my questions and providing me with useful solutions. Dr Main did a very thorough examination and set up the perfect treatment plan for me. I even got to see my bacteria under a microscope to learn how to better prevent having bad bacteria! I am using my wifes email to post this about Dr. Craig Main DDS and the team at SLO Smiles. First, let me say that these people are so honest that you will not believe it. They will NEVER try to sell you on anything! You must ASK for it at SLO Smiles! Dr. Main has some amazing technology that other dentists dont seem to have. My son broke a molar and Dr. Main built it back up using a dam system at a much lower cost, when others said crown time. Now to my recent experience. My front teeth had worn down and yellowed over the years. I asked Dr. Main if he could put on larger veneers in a slightly lighter color. He said no problem-and for him it was not! The results are amazing-my smile has not looked this good since about 1992! Oh-and wait there is more. Dr. Main knows that dentistry can be a painful experience, so he uses topical numbing before injection of the Novacaine or whatever they are using now. He never rushes this step so pain is minimized. He is very gentle. I cannot say enough for him and his team. To me, he is the best dentist I have ever been to in my life, and believe me, I have been to a LOT! Sincerely, Bob Wilson.

My experiences with SLO Smiles have been that everyone is exceptionally professional and pleasant. And I appreciate the staffs sensitivity to my wishes while explaining what dental needs were pressing and which were less so.Also, I was surprised with their very high magnification electron microscope which revealed to me the state of my dental health in a way that I have never seen elsewhere. This is the best dental practice I have experienced in my 50 plus years of going to a dentist. Dr. Main recently did 3 small fillings in under an hour. I was painless, quick and very professional. I came in for an exam with a cut on my gum that was causing me some pain. The scheduling staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and I was able to schedule a same-day appointment with very short notice. Additionally, I was able to fill out all the required paperwork online. The assistant and the dentist were exceptionally professional, and took a great deal of care to examine my wound to ensure it wasn’t a sign of something more serious, as well as answer any questions I had. Based on my experience, I will absolutely visit this office again for my future dental needs. Thank you!

Back in 2010, I was 19 years old and broke my two front teeth almost in half. I was devastated. My smile had always been one of my favorite traits and I was utterly terrified that I needed crowns.Dr. Ian Leopold was patient and empathetic throughout the entire process. He understood my anxiety and assured me that the final results would be great. Dr. Ian Leopold completed each step with exceptional skill, including creating temporary caps and administering numbing shots (nothing like watching a needle go into your gums). He ensured that that the final fit was perfect and that my teeth looked natural.What prompted me to write this post, is that even ten years later—my crowns still are perfect. No chipping, discoloration, or irritation. My teeth look completely natural and no one knows that I have crowns unless I tell them. I have gone to numerous dentists over the years and even they don’t know that I have crowns until they see an x-ray or do an exam. I purposely don’t tell dentists beforehand, just to see their reaction as they exclaim at the skill that took to complete such excellent teeth. If you need crowns, I highly HIGHLY recommend going to SLO Smiles!

I was so lucky to be referred to Dr Leopold at SLO Smiles. I had some dental work started with another dentist and was not pleased how things were going. I saw Dr Leopold for his opinion and after I had a root canal, I returned to his office to have a crown placed. He has the ability to make your crown right in his office . I was amazed to watch him use the computer program to design my crown. He and his assistant Gina are very knowledgeable and professional. I feel that Dr Leopold listened to me and answered all of my questions. My interaction with his office staff was always very friendly and efficient. The office seems very well organized. They looked up my dental insurance benefits and billed my insurance for me.i highly recommend Dr Leopold. My crown fits beautifully and looks exactly like my other teeth. Beautiful job. I will absolutely continue to see this dentist!

I am very impressed with the professional, knowledgeable and caring dentistry of Dr. Ian Leopold. He and his terrific assistant Gina, are an awesome duo. Dr. Ian has performed several surgeries for me...from implants to caps to a five tooth bridge. Dr. Ian Leopold is my dentist and Michele Early is my dental hygienist. I have good teeth so its just been checkups with Dr. Leopold. He is a true professional and really takes the time to get to know you and everything about your dental history and goals for your teeth. Ive had more experience with Michele. It is hard to imagine how anyone could be more thorough or care more deeply about cleaning teeth. Her passion for her work is amazing and the end product is sparkling clean teeth and healthy gums.

I can not say enough good things about Dr Ian Leopold and every person I have come in contact with in his office. I am that person that has struggled with a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist since I was a child. My Husband and I have been seeing Dr. Nick Murphy for years. We go there for all of our dental needs. In my opinion, this is the best all around dental office in SLO County. Even the staff is great which isnt always common in medical offices.

This place is the best I’ve found in the SLO area. I’ve spent my fair share of time in a dentist chair due to my genes, I can speak from experience. I just had my teeth cleaned by Maria and WOW, what a wonderful job she did! She was so thorough while ensuring my comfort throughout the whole appointment. I can’t remember the last time my teeth looked and felt this clean!

I was previously treated by a local dentist who, in my opinion did extensive dental work on me (I had 4 root canals finished by this dentist and went there for a total of about 2.5 years). After two of the teeth repairs failed (one within a few months and the other just 1.5 years later) I was concerned. When the second tooth failed he didnt even provide all of the options to me, I had to ask about an implant. His plan was to pull the tooth that day and make a bridge. After pushing for an implant, he sent me to an oral surgeon and stated it could possibly all be done in one day. The appointment was scheduled for one week from then. My boss heard about this and recommended Dr. Ian Leopold and I was squeezed in two days later for a consult. He took the time to explain everything to me and reasoning behind each step. I am in the last phase of an implant and have had nothing but good experiences along the way. I then had a second opinion/consult with him about my other teeth and he found some things that were not even told to me from the previous dentist who I had just saw two months earlier. I will never go anywhere else for dental care and have complete trust in Dr. Ian Leopold. I do not think he just does things to make money but does what he thinks is the best decision and will discuss options with you every step of the way. His assistants and the staff are just as great always being accommodating and keeping tabs on things for me. I highly recommend this office.

From the cleanliness of the whole facility. There is ample and comfortable Air Conditioning throughout. Then there is the 100% Non Smoking Staff and no heavy perfumes anywhere. Finally and most important, are the Doctors whose #1 Priority is your comfort and dental health. It truly does not get any better than this. Our whole family get their dental health care at Leopold, Murphy and Main. We would never dream of going anywhere else. There is an Art to what they do and you can tell the whole staff loves working here.

I have been going here since 1981.Wonderful dentists, hygienists and staff. Very professional and first rate. I have only praise not one complaint. Ive been a patient of Dr Murphy for all these years and Maria Compton is my hygienist. They are the greatest.

Went in very nervous. Really don’t like the dentist experience. Tiki put me at ease with her gentle touch and wonderful positive attitude. She talked with me and relaxed me.Dr Murphy’s bedside manner was exceptional.He explained everything he was doing while he examined my mouth.Have been going to Dr Murphy for over 20 years.They are the best.

I had an amazing tech assistant — she was kind and funny. Dr. Leopold was patient, friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. I definitely recommend SLO smiles!

I moved back to the central coast after decades away. When looking for a new dentist I knew this was where I wanted to go. Everything about this office makes you feel like you are being cared for as family. With a caring staff, dentists with years of experience but also the latest up-to-date tools and sensitive to your needs, they make sure you are educated and at ease about your dental health. No one likes going to the dentist. But these folks make it as relaxing and painless as possible. They were able to squeeze me in when my crown cracked. Staff is professional and courteous. So, if you have to go...this is the place.

My best friend recommended SLO smiles to me. I ended up working with Dr. Maine, assisted by Jaime. My experience was beyond my expectations in every way. I had 2 issues he dealt with. The first one was a cavity below the gum line in the last molar, which is a very difficult place to anesthetize. Dr. Maine allowed about 1/2 hour for this area to become numb, something other dentists in the past have not allowed. The procedure was not only pain free, but I felt total relaxation the whole time. My second problem seemed hopeless to me, and I had been to other dentists who had not been able to solve the issue... I had a severe accident 45 years ago which left me without front teeth... followed by a number of dental procedures which resulted in scar tissue and a tiny gap between the remaining teeth that was too small for a denture to fit. I had been living without any front teeth and smiling very carefully, with my lips only, so no one would be aware that I was toothless for a number of years. Dr. Maine worked with the lab and a creative solution was hatched to give me the look of normal front teeth in a removable denture. Other dentists had tried and failed to resolve my issue. The solution surpassed my wildest expectations! For the first time in 7 years I can now smile... and even my closest family members did not even realize my new denture was not my own teeth. Amazingly, when I smiled at them they just thought I was happier than they had seen me in years. What a wonder!

Actually this is Sandy Johnson and I have been going here forever. Nic is always so helpful and informative and funny. Maria is the best hygienist ever. They take their time with you and answer all questions. They are always on time! I highly recommend them.

The front office is always polite, efficient and helpful. My dental hygienist Michelle and dentist Dr. Main are the best! The location is convenient, well maintained and I appreciate the high quality of dental work that is accomplished here.

Being on the road and having a dental emergency is no fun. I called Leopold, Murphy & Main (per a family members strong recommendation) as soon as I returned home and they got me in immediately to discuss (and implement) an action plan. Less than a week later, Im healing nicely and remain pain free. I appreciate their professionalism and sincere desire to assist...they will remain my long-term dental provider for years to come.

I went To see Robyn for a deep cleaning and she is amazing!!! I was terrified to go back to the dentist after not going for years. When I went for my first appointment with her she answered all of my questions and made me feel very comfortable. I’ve never felt a shot, nor felt any work! This place is amazing! Highly recommended!

They go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. They just did a large filling and it looks perfect, even though it is on a back molar in a hard to reach hard to see location. Very happy.

As always, my hygiene appointment with Maria was great. She is gentle, thorough, and just plain delightful. Dr. Ian popped in to check on the progress of an extraction he had painlessly done previously. Gena was able to squeeze me in unexpectedly to make an adjustment for a better fit on a partial. This office is terrific!

I’m a new patient at SLO Smiles. I’ve had two visits, so far.One for evaluation (X rays, etc.) and a follow-up for cleaning.I think I’ll be very satisfied with my new dental office and treatment. I now realize how “old fashioned” my former dentist was.The SLO Smiles staff is friendly, efficient, knowledgeable and skilled.The equipment and techniques are up to date.There is no “ hard sell” of cosmetic treatments I don’t want.(I stated from the start that my objective is healthy teeth and gums, not aesthetically perfect teeth.)If I’d had a dentist experience like this much sooner, I would have a healthier mouth now.I gladly recommend SLO Smiles, based on my experience so far.

This is a wonderful dental practice that deserves more than five stars. Ive been seeing Dr. Ian Leopold since I moved here in 2015 and I can honestly say its the best dental experience Ive ever had. I most recently had an implant procedure with Dr. Leopold, which is one of his specialties. He put me completely at ease, explained each step as he worked, and it was an incredibly easy, pain-free experience. He followed up with a phone call in the evening to make sure I was doing ok, something I really appreciated. It all went very smoothly. Im also very happy with the hygiene team. Ive seen SaTeckia Foster since 2015 as well. Shes terrific, does a wonderful job and is extremely patient with my more-than-challenging tartar issues. The office itself is a pleasure to be in, with fresh flowers in the waiting room, and a lovely relaxing atmosphere, along with the latest high-tech dental equipment and an extremely personable staff.

The office of this doctor has been unprofessional and downright rude. My son broke a tooth during the night and was in pain and seeking an appointment to fix it.He was told we need to talk to the doctor to determine weatherwe are willing to treat you. As justification they said that he refused to take X-Rays the previous time, as he had recently taken them (few weeks prior) by his home doctor (and x-rays were being provided from previous doctor)All of this, in the face of a 19 yrs old guy, who had a broken tooth and in pain.

We felt the office staff were patient centered. The office was state of the art. The dentist was interested in good dental health education and I had a thorough evaluation.

I have been a patient of Dr Mark Leopold for the past 10 years and I wouldnt go anywhere else! He always explains what he sees and what hes doing while treating a dental problem. There are several hygienists to choose from, but I always see Tami. My teeth feel fantastic when shes done with them! The office is beautiful and calm and they have all the latest technology. I highly recommend this dental office to anyone looking for a new dentist.

These folks know their stuff and actually want to be the best. My take on the business is that Mark, Nick, and the other owners demand excellence from their staff and the work atmosphere allows people to deliver their best. It seems as though everyone is accountable to one another in making the patients experience their #1 priority. From making the initial appointment...to the check-in...to the procedure and follow-up...these guys and gals have it down. No, this isnt a fake plug...my wife and I have gone to them since the early 1980s when these boys built the building themselves. Quite a story! This place is great! Dr. Nick has been my dentist since I was a kid and I’ve never felt like I needed to go anywhere else. It’s because of this place that my teeth are in such great shape. The people here are always super friendly, and if I ever have any questions Dr. Nick and the hygienists have always taken the time to explain to me what’s going on with my teeth. I have been seeing Tecki as my hygienist for the last couple years and I couldn’t be happier. She always makes my cleanings a breeze, and took the time to show me how to properly brush and floss. She also introduced me to the water pick, and now I can’t go without it. I know I said it before, but this place is great! I absolutely recommend SLO Smiles.

Dr. Main is the best. I had a root canal by an Endodontist while Dr Main was on vacation. The endodontist said I would need a new crown. Dr. Main called me when he got back from vacation and assured me that I probably wouldn’t need a crown, but if I did, I would not have be charged since Dr. Main had just put a crown in the tooth Dec., 2018. Dr. Main is gentle, informative, and I recommend him highly.

I went in concerned about possible serious gum problems and Mark Leopold carefully examined me, took photos of my gums so I could see what he was seeing, and fully explained my problem, and his recommended solution. He and his partners and staff always seem to have the the latest technology and knowledge and are willing to explain what they see completely. Ive been a patient here for 27 years.

I have been cared for by the dentists at SLO smiles for over 30 years. It is a very nice place for your oral health. A few years ago I had an accident and my front teeth were either loose or knocked out. The care I received was wonderful and competent. My teeth are beautiful once again. I also get my cleaning done here, the hygenist found a problem that didn’t show up on the x-rays. Top notch place to go!

Professional, thorough service and a dialed-in experience from start to finish - something thats rare these days in the medical/dental field. I was given great explanations regarding treatment and the whole staff set clear expectations at every step of the way and were very helpful. Pricing is reasonable as well and is far less than I would have expected for this level of service.

I love going to the dentist at SLO Smiles because the staff and atmosphere is amazing. Every time I leave I can’t stop smiling because of how clean and shiny my teeth look. My past appointment I had the lovely Teckie and she has been my favorite hygienist by far. She made me feel super comfortable and was very funny.
