I would like to thank Elite Prep for working with my son since the ninth grade and helping him get into his dream college. My son needed help on a number of fronts, especially with being aware of all the things that needed to be done, organizing, and planning activities to ensure that he is able to meet all the requirements for admission to a good college. I was extremely busy with work and I did not want my son to miss out on anything that would keep my son from getting into a good college. Anna and the team at Elite were a real blessing. From the time my son joined Elite Prep in 9th grade, through him securing an admission into UC Berkeley, Anna Koh and the team at Elite were 100% on top of his college admission plan. They meticulously tracked his activities, involved us when needed, and put together a great plan that gave my son not only a definite advantage but also the confidence to perform well. By joining Elite early, my son was able to pace his schedule over the 3-4 years better, without getting stressed out. I am very grateful to Anna Koh and the Elite team and would highly recommend Elite Prep/Almaden/San Jose for anyone looking for a good college preparatory institution.
Love Elite!! Awesome boot camps and convenient weekend classes for standardized test prep and AP Prep. Older kid took college application service and landed her dream admission!! Younger kid also benefits from newer small group tutoring during weekdays for help with school work. Both kids scored perfect or near perfect scores in all tests they trained here for, and younger one recently scored 1520 on PSAT. Couldn’t be happier!!!
Elite has been extremely valuable in helping me get to the college of my dreams. Every person on staff is so willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand all the material & really do want to see you succeed! The tutors go at your pace and understand that every learning style in different. After coming to Elite after taking the SAT for this first time, my SAT score increased over 150 points in each of the sections!I just started school at a UC this past fall and I have nothing but love for Elite for helping me get to this point :) 10/10 would recommend!
I took an ACT course at Elite during the summer. For $1250, I spent 8.5 hours each Saturday for 8 weeks improving my score. Only improved my score by about 4 points despite doing the assigned homework and having much of room to improve. Overall, the place is extremely pretentious and only has an interest in money. Almost every single practice test provided can be found online. If you request a little more practice, even just a worksheet, they will not provide it for you. A couple of parents almost got in a screaming match with the branch director because Elite will absolutely not give anything more than what you paid for. They will also charge you an extra $50 that is non refundable if you choose not to take the course. They unnecessarily spend money on items such as backpacks and big binders with the name splattered all over them. Once a teacher left, all the students would complain about how horrible the place was. The teachers were impatient, rude, and unable to explain answers. There are a ridiculous amount of rules, such as threatening expulsion with no refund in the case a student does not perform well. For example, if a student continues to fail vocab tests, Elite will expel them and keep the money.Lots of hype for an overly pretentious and expensive place. I stand by my stance that Excel Test Prep is much better. Excel is much cheaper and gives each student 6 months of Exam Club after their course ends.
I have given this prep place two stars due to the fact that they covered the wrong information that was on the SAT. I took the actual test and it was completely different from how I expected and with the practice it was different. The teachers and staff were very kind but the curriculum was very intense. The vocab quizzes each day were unnecessary because there are no vocab questions on the SAT. The staff were a bit unorganized sometime having the wrong quiz and some teachers are fairly uneducated about specific problems. With the $2000 dollar course I would have expected something more organized. Dont get me wrong, the people here arent bad people just the cirriculum needs work.
Never again will I come to this institution. These people are just scams that dont actually care about your childs success and only want money. My daughter took an AP Chem prep course here and my nephew took the AP world history course. Overall, both of them were very disappointed. For AP Chemistry, the teacher only came every other week. We paid almost a thousand dollars for someone who came only half the time. When the chem teacher didnt come, the students were given practice tests. There was nothing special about these tests. Elite literally just printed out the tests from the practice books and handed the kids the practice book explanation sheet. My daughter could have done this at home. Additionally, when their teacher did come, he didnt take the burden to teach and just assigned the students to learn from the practice book. The class went at a very rushed pace. The time allocation was very bad and was based off of what the TEACHER thought was easy and hard, not what the students were having trouble with. Actually, the teacher or Elite didnt bother to see how the students were doing. No effort was made to try to grade the students open response answers. They were just handed off packets that were printed out from the review book. The AP Chem class was not helpful at all and a total waste of money. There was nothing special in the class and it was nothing that couldnt have been done at home.Moving on to my nephews experience, he was also very dissatisfied. Here is his response and thoughts about the class: The class had no structure. The teacher would cover random bouts of history. One week we would learn about one random part of history and then another week it would be about something else. This teacher didnt understand that the world history ap exam was about BREADTH not DEPTH. To make matters worse, when we were asked to write essays, the teacher did not grade it using the college board rubric. We would get marked off points for reasons that we didnt know why. When we asked about what we did wrong, we got vague answers like write the paragraph better or add more. Additionally, when the one of the parents expressed complaints about this, not much was done to change the class. Elite promised that things would changed, but they literally did NOTHING! The class carried on to be a continued waste of time. I got nothing from Elite except for a disgust and hatred for money-hungry institutions that dont care for their students.
Excellent staff, motivated and charismatic teachers and management well versed on needs of students to get into colleges they want.
I visited the Elite San Jose branch with my Emotional Service Animal (dog), Marshall, and everyone there was not only extremely friendly, but also very encouraging. All of the teachers and administrative staff were more than helpful, and I felt that the atmosphere at Elite was conducive to higher learning. If I had to take the SATs or ACTs again today, I would definitely go with Elite of San Jose to improve my score (especially in Math!).
Simply put, my SAT went from 1320 to 1500 after the summer course
Excellent support from both the branch director and the teachers inside.
