I guess it was a busy day for them so the whole process took 4 1/2 hours. I was told its usually done in half that. Still better than taking out an add and selling it myself. They paid top blue book for my particular car so overall Im very happy with them. Based on my experience, I highly recommend them.
Wait was long. The guy who helped us, Ethan was very helpful. Quick and easy to communicate with. Promised to hold the car till we come back. Overall I was happy about my first visit here.Updating my review. 2 days later. Came in to buy the car they said they put on hold for me. Now they say somebody deleted the car in their system from another dealership, and this is causing at least an hour delay. If I had not pushed back, they would just say sorry it is what it is and move on to the next car.
It was really great from start to finish. I was selling my Honda Civic an it was so easy to do with Carmax. Their team works fast but of course its was busy and when that happen you will have to wait for a bit.

I was very apprehensive about dealing with CarMax but a friend of mine told me it was great. I went online, answered a few questions, got a very fair price offer to purchase my car. I came in the next day, they looked over my car, confirmed the online offer price, I signed some papers and got a check. It was that easy! No pressure to buy another car. Whole process takes a few hours.
People there are nice. I sold a car to them. Their offer was lower than blue book, but better than dealer offer. Process was quite easy. However, their payment check goes on hold at your bank and takes 3-5 days to clear. Its not like a cashiers check.
Super easy process - from scheduling test drive to getting an appraisal on our trade-in and applying for/securing financing. Will definitely be back in the future whenever were in the market for a car again! The only downside was we went on a Saturday afternoon so it was very busy and there was a long wait between each part, but I guess is to be expected for the time of day/week we went.

Its really odd here. The lot feels like a graveyard and you have to scan a qr code to see if the car you might like is available. We checked on about 20 cars and only 1 was available. Its strange to be sure. Theres not a lot of people here to talk to. I think youre supposed to find something online and come in later

With the amount of interest in used cars these days, there was a lot of backlog so it took them many hours to wrap it up for us, but otherwise, it was very easy and the offer quote was the best in the market to sell our car (and they honored it). Overall it was a great experience.
My salesperson, Jay, was great, such a sweet man! I had the car shipped from another CarMax site and it arrived sooner than I thought; which was nice! Before my appointment to see the car, Jay had it assured me the car had been through an additional inspection as well as wiped down before I test drove it. The car is perfect, my daughter and I love it! He walked me through the financing which was the easiest process Ive ever encountered when buying a car. Maria, from finance, was a total sweetheart. She explained what I was signing or initialing before I put the ink to the forms. While I was signing the forms, Jay had the car sent it for a quick detail. Total time in the dealership from start to finish was 1hr, 20 mins.
Easy experience and we felt we got a good value for the car we sold! It wasnt as fast of an in-person process as some other companies that come to your house, but the extra couple hours was worth the extra money.

Sold my CX-5 here before moving out of the state. The process was painless and very easy. I was selling a car with an active loan on it, so all I needed in addition to the usual documents was the lienholder name and account number.I submitted my car around 10:30AM with my online offer and the first phase took roughly 20 minutes. I then left and returned around 3:30PM and wrapped up the final signatures. Overall, a very pleasant experience and I would highly recommend.
Do not buy from this dealership...I bought a car off them and Im from Tucson AZ..flew up there to get a car annd the engine blew up 8 miles away on the freeway...worst experience of my life...long story short they wanted me register a car without having the car to take through emission by a certain date it was like 30 daays...which I could not because they were putting a engine in it and it took 4 to 5 months to get that done and ship to AZ...so they decided to cancel my loan because I couldnt register it..even though I was paying my payments....and refuse to work with me on it after they cause a S**t shooow...
Amazingly simple. Input my car details online, got appraised, scheduled my appointment for physical inspection and wow!!!. They gave me the same appraisal as online and it was more than what my LR dealer ship offering me. I agreed and just an hour wait and got the check in hand.

This was the easiest car buying experience. Noone is pushy. Its not overwhelming, and they definitely try to explain things as thoroughly as possible. I want to first start by commending the CarMax staff on their professionalism. I have never had a better experience from beginning to end with a car dealer. 5 years ago I purchased my first car on my own from CarMax. It was a Lexus IS250. It was the perfect car for me in the moment. After 5 great years with the vehicle, and my family starting to grow, it was time to get into something a bit larger. I had thought long and hard about what I wanted to do with the Lexus... Keep it? Sell It? Donate? But it all came back to my time I had with CarMax. I remembered my experiences and wanted to bring it full circle. So on a Wednesday late afternoon, I headed down to the store. Was immediately helped at the front desk and the gentleman asked me what I was here for, and how he could help. I told him my story, and he promptly started helping start the process. He explained all the steps, and the timing on each one. I think he was scary accurate on how long this was going to take. He was accurate to the minute. Every step of the way I was met with professionalism and kindness. I could not recommend CarMax more for a. Buying a vehicle, and b. Selling a vehicle. They make everything so easy, and make you feel like family. Thank you CarMax! We will be back soon!
Fair pricing with upfront quote on the time required for each step in the process- loved the transparency. I contacted multiple dealers and none provided a deal as good as CarMax. Every dealer admitted that CarMax is my best bet and they cant beat it. Amazing customer service from greeting to scheduling appointments to processing documents. I just walked in and sold my car- simple and easy, no frills!
The salesperson was great. Was told to take 30 minutes for signing paperwork, that turned it to 2 hours but it was Friday night. It was dark so I was anxious to leave and I overlooked a few issues with the car. The detailing wasnt great and there was a small gash in the sidewall of the tire. I do take responsibility for not noticing it initially but Im here at the service center now and after having to express some displeasure, they are ordering a new tire for me and zipping along getting the headliner cleaned proper.
Walked in with $15,000 and the manager was extremely rude. He must have had somewhere better to be because all he did was rush me off the lot. Place is a joke! Take your money else where. You can tell that man obviously thinks he’s better then everyone….. Zero stars if I could

Easy to sell your old car here. It was a bit overcrowded, lot of people are there to sell. I didnt expect this since the Delta variant is going strong in Bay Area now. Due to covid, I dont like spending too much time in public places specially in AC buildings.

This is definitely the easiest way to sell a car without getting ripped off by the dealer that you buy a new car from. Youre not going to get the best price but youre also going to be in and done in a few hours, much better than spending hours upon days trying to sell it yourself

I went to purchase a vehicle after getting it transferred to the Capital store. My sales person was nice but kept forgetting my requests for the car. I asked for a car key battery replacement, replace the torn underside covering, and remove the stickers from my car. I had to remind my Sales person 3x for each topic to get it worked on.The paperwork process was also lengthier because they messed up and double printed my paperwork which lead to rescanning the documents which literally took over 1.5 hours as opposed to the 25 mins. (I had all the paperwork filled out prior as well.)My car was also not washed and interior was not cleaned/detailed. At this point, I was already at the CarMax for 4 hours and was in a hurry to leave so I just left it at that. This made the initial new car drive off the lot experience not so exciting.I still have not gotten reached out about my car torn underside that CarMax said they would replaced.
My wife and I both bought cars from the same CarMax from the same sales person within 7 days. The first transaction was so easy, fair, and impressive, that we went back and bought a second car a week later. Our sales person, Leo, was helpful, knowledgable, and patient. The business office was thorough and helpful when explaining and signing papers. We will be recommending CarMax to friends and will be back in the future to buy other cars.

I left to grab a drink at a favorite coffee shop, received a call informing me that the offer was exactly as stated online, and 15 minutes after returning to your facility, I received the check and paperwork. Depending on your visit business need, youll need to have patience, a fully charged mobile phone, water and snack. My need was to sell, not buy. I had a lien on my vehicle which caused more delay with TFS Toyota financial services. The human wait time for a human/payoff info was/is 50 minutes.They CarFax is a very busy outfit. The place is vibrant yet very organized! My first mobile/text assessment got me to the cash offer point, followed by an email and appointment. I had posted my auto on craigslist, this is how a rep found me. The car is then physically appraised and bank is called for payoff. My first visit was 2 hours. Given a missed mobile call (had my phone off to save battery). The caller was asking for my license ID. They didnt know I was sitting 4 feet from them, at all times. I finally walked up to check status given I was told a 75 minute wait. I actually walked out given the delayed phone message/ID delay which would add another hour.I later returned early day to start over. My offer was good for 5 days. My second and last visit was 2 hours. But, the deal was done. Once at the last mile, final papers, check was cut and signed docs wrapped up in 5 minutes.I was carless and asked what people do in my circumstance. The lovely lady said oh! You need a ride? I said, sure do. They insisted on ordering me a Lyft. I filled out a sheet with name/address and was shuttled out within 8 minutes.The key here is, be proactive, check in while waiting, keep your phone and ringer on. Given the time delay, many people leave, so they call you. Also, no WiFi is open while you wait. Keep a fully charged phone before you arrive and dont turn it off. Plan on data plan deplete.I had made two trips- but it was the best offer, bar none of any other dealership around. Check them out!

I had a car sent down from modesto. The salesman said it was going to take 2-3 days to bring the car in. The car was in the San Jose location after two days. They said it was going to take another day for detailing and processing.2 1/2 weeks have gone by and they are finally saying the car is available for me to test drive. I was able to find another location that had a similar car, purchase it, and I have been driving it ever since.This was an example of poor customer service and they did not win me as a customer. I would think twice about having them send a car in from another carmax. Even if it is only from modesto...
Id like to start off by saying that Ive never had an issue with a dealership before, and I have been trying to have the issue resolved for 5 days now! My dealer that sold me the car convinced and reassured me that there would be no issues converting my financing to Navy Federal which is my bank and because of the years I put into the Military I get the best rates! Initially I was convinced by the dealer to go ahead go with there financing through CarMaxx and got approved for a terrible rate but he reassured that I would be able to change it over to my bank within the 3 business days! I was then told that they would try to work something out for me and the 3 day grace period has already passed the issue is still unresolved and if I didnt call today there would be interest on the vehicle. I served my country for many many years to ensure people are safe and when I come back home, I dont expect to be treated like this! I was supposed to get an update yesterday and still nothing then today I call and the BOM or business office manager isnt even in to help me fix the issue! I feel like I keep getting the cold shoulder and I may have to escalate this up even further! I was assured that they deal with my bank all the time and never have any issues! Next time I will do more research because I do not deserve this and I am extremely disappointed with the level of support I am getting from this location the San Jose Capital Expressway!

TERRIBLE experience. Ill go over the problems by area because there were SO MANY.1: My father was co-signing for me in another state. The Carmax he had to go to sign did not return his calls (he called twice) then reached out for him to come in 6 days after I picked up my car 2 hours before they closed. He made an appointment for 2 days later.I get a call from the dealership I purchased the car at threatening to reposess the car if he didnt come in that same day. This was RIDICULOUS since they waited 6 days to reach out.2. Finally get the papers signed, I get a call that they LOST two pages that we signed. No one knows where they went. We have to do the process again. This was extremely inconvenient, but more disheartening to know Carmax staff are so haphazard with the way they handle important documents and personal information.3. I was given a key that was NOT TO MY CAR. I called service about this three times and went a week without receiving a call back. Finally went to the dealership to speak to a sales manager, voiced my concerns, and he told me he ordered it that day and that he would mail it to me. TWO WEEKS later I still have no key. Turns out he never ordered my key--still waiting on it to be handled. Hoping the person I spoke to this time will deal with it.I am NEVER shopping at Carmax again. ABSOLUTELY NOT The way car buying should be
This was a emotional for me. Sold my car to Carmax and downsized to another. The experience was flawless. My sales guy Diego was awesome! He was nice, gave great customer service. He was so helpful. Even helped store some of my thing until my new car was ready. He asked if needed water several times. Paperwork took a while but it was understandable. Diego kept checking up on us to make sure we were comfortable and needed anything. I have already referred several friends to Carmax, San Jose. Definitely, will be back again, Thank you!!!

Three voice messages per two weeks and nobody called back. On Saturday I came in person to check my car or schedule an appointment but they said that I have to come on Monday to schedule an appointment for service. What is the benefit of my service contract?
My experience was fine nothing special but it did take something like three hours to sell the car unfortunately I wasn’t necessarily looking forward to that other than that it was a great experience the wait time that was what was most challenge.

Id done everything online the night before so she was able to pull that up and get it started. I was able to sell my car and use that as part of my down payment. I went to a major dealership the day before and had a horrible time but Carmax saved the day!! We came back the next day and got a car for my husband!!

This was the first time that I’ve used CarMax. Honesty, I’d definitely use them again in the future. I happen to rest drive the car that I wanted at a dealership and in that process, decided that I wanted to go ahead and purchase the car. Knowing that CarMax may get busy — a friend informed me of this — I decided to set an appointment on my way there.The precious was super efficient, and easy. I say on the offer for 1 day, went in the next day and accepted. Handing everything over was a breeze; took about 20-25 max; they stuck to the offer. Of course, this experience was the offer-sell and not the offer-sell/trade-in. Either way, I highly recommend coming here. You may be able to put a sign on your car to sell it and get more, but this way is much faster if you don’t feel like going through those steps.Good luck! 🍀

Had to get appraisal 2 times even though I came on last day of offer. Reps were very fast on second visit though so that was good. Offer was lower than it should have been. Service on March 16th was very good in spite of reappraisal.
AWEFUL SERVICE!!!! The girl was UNPROFESSIONAL, our car broke down on our once a year trip to California, we tried to buy a new car from these people and the people kept getting up and WALKING AWAY every few seconds, they refused to help us when we asked for a loaner car, they KNEW WE WERE STRANDED, their policy is CLEARY PROFITS BEFORE PEOPLE! and to top it off we BOUGHT a CAR which BROKE DOWN in less than 24 hours, we took it back to them and they still REFUSED TO GIVE US A LOANER CAR, the car was a 2018 NISSAN SENTRA, I heard them offer a loaner car to someone else, but were stranded because they SOLD US A LEMON and they REFUSED TO HELP US! RUDE manager, not understanding, was very unprofessional when we told him we our situation, he TOOK ADVANTAGE of us, and still sold us a LEMON car! STAY AWAY from this CARMAX is you want a business that puts people FIRST!

Great vehicle (2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited) at an excellent price. Navigating CarMaxs online purchase procedures was a learning experience as I selected two vehicles but was unable to make a deal as they were already spoken for. Calling to the office to speak with someone was also a bit of a hassle. The vehicle I chose was as attractive of an option as the ones I lost out on and it was shipped to the Capitol Expressway store from Colorado reasonably quickly (2 weeks). I scheduled my test drive and found out the start/stop function did not work properly. Rather than take it home and deal with this later, I told my sales associate that I would come back & we could close on the vehicle once they fixed the problem. It took two weeks which gave me some cause for concern as communication was a little lacking about the repair status of the vehicle which was taken to the Jeep dealership next door. I finally received a call from Maalick on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and set up an appointment first thing that Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. Closing took a little longer than I expected (2 hrs vs 1 hr). After waiting an hour, the person I was able to sit down and do the actual closing with was very efficient and explained everything quite thoroughly. By 12:00 noon I was out the door with my Jeep Wrangler. Happy Customer & would recommend CarMax to others with just a few watchouts!
I sold my Jetta to carmax using their online appraisal. I had to do the appraisal twice as I could not make the set deadline on my quote. My second quote was $400 less than the first, my Jetta depreciated in a week?!At carmax after checking in I waited 90 minutes before anyone communicated with me. Once I was in contact, signing over my my car was seamless.

The best place on the planet to sell a car without hassle, shady negotiations and opaque deals. Car was appraised online and the on-site appraisal matched the online dollar amount. Takes 1 hour for the whole affair- look out car dealerships, CarMax is going to run you all out of business soon!
Overall, the selling experience was very positive. We had secured an online quote and scheduled an appraisal appointment. We were aware that we could probably get a higher price by selling to a private party, but we felt that the risk abatement offered by a reputable company like CarMax was worth the reduction in sale price. Plus, the transaction was hassle-free, as CarMax handles the DMV paperwork for the seller.All of the staff in the business office were very polite and respectful, and we were very impressed with the COVID abatement efforts undertaken by the employees.Our only complaint is that each step of the process took longer than we were told it would. If they said 10-15 minutes, it would take a half hour or more. Even though we had scheduled an appointment, we were treated as a drive-in (first come, first served). Our appointment was for 3:00 p.m., and we left with a check at about 4:45 p.m. But happily, after two physical examinations of the vehicle and a short test drive, the check was for the full amount of the online quote.I would recommend CarMax to anyone seeking to sell their vehicle in a safe and secure manner.
I had an appointment for an appraisal scheduled and when I walked in, they told me I would have to wait 1.5- 2 hours to have it done. It seems absurd to schedule an appointment and then be told you have to wait 2 hours. Eventually, they found a solution for a mini appraisal, which still took over 2 hours, but at least I didnt have to wait. I was happy with the appraisal value, but then when I came back to turn the car in, it took another 3 hours total to get it sold, when they had already done a lot of the preliminary work of calling the bank ahead of time. In general, it was an extremely time consuming and inefficient process.

A set of unfortunate circumstances occurred which prevented a successful purchase, which to be fair to the staff were not completely in their control, however, the staff made the problems worse by failing to help me solve the problems.It all started when my 6 year old son and I came in to an appointment to finish up a transaction that we started a week prior over the phone, to buy a new vehicle and trade in our current vehicle.I brought my son with me to relieve my wife who stayed at home with our newborn.While preparing our new vehicle, a check engine light came on in the vehicle that I was to purchase and I was informed that I could either purchase a different vehicle or take a loaner while the vehicle was assessed and repaired.I appreciated the attention to the check engine light and opted to take a loaner car.We then moved forward with financing the new vehicle and selling my trade in vehicle.I then just needed to wait for the loaner car to be prepared.After an hour of waiting I was informed that my insurance company wasnt responding, in order to approve the insurance for the loaner.This is completely the fault of my car insurance, company to be fair to CarMax.I was then informed that CarMax would pay for my son and I to take a Lyft back home, 58 miles to Oakland, then we would be Lyfted back to CarMax the next day to pick up the loaner car.The alternative being to reverse the sale completely to return my trade in vehicle.We are a family of 4 with appointments and couldnt afford the time to go back and forth to San Jose, so the only practical option was to reverse the sale.We arrived at CarMax at 11am and left at 3pm.Before my appointment I was assured more than once that it wouldnt take longer than one hour. I expected 90 minutes but not 4 hours.I was told several times throughout our time there that the staff were just working on this or that and that it wouldnt be long, so I waited patiently.Given that the vending machine was out of order, we had no vehicle to get around, and that there was no food service nearby, I would expect staff to realize that I have a small child who needs to eat and perhaps offer an option.My sons car seat was in a locker in the service center and I needed it to finally leave.I asked the head sales manager if we could please have help getting the car seat and he looked at me and said, Yes, well help you, then turned to help other customers, while I stood there for yet another 10 minutes. We were ignored and not helped to get his car seat.We were definitely not important anymore and being treated as such.The staff failed to return my registration to me, so yet again, we waited to ask for our registration back.We were there to give them business.We wanted to purchase a vehicle and yet CarMax just approached problems with no imagination for problem solving.Heres the kicker, CarMax wrote me a check for $5038 for the positive equity of trade-in that they returned to me.So fatigued by the end of my stay and not thinking clearly, I assumed it was because they deposited my down payment, so were returning the money to me, however they never deposited my down payment.Now Im going out of my way to return the money to CarMax. Wasting more of my limited time.But, who cares? There are a hundred more customers to make up for the loss the sale.Feeling very foolish.Good life lessons for me though.
Fremont location was not friendly, seemed like it was a bother we were there. Had an appointment and was told just look at the lot. I recommend San Jose location. Much friendlier and very helpful.

Carmax Leonardo Fernandez - had made my first time experience very seamless and before I knew it I had decided on my dream car that day and all the paperwork went through without any difficulties and I drove off with my car. Online quote was quick and easy. Had to go to local carmax to confirm car condition.Entire process took about 1.5 hours.Definitely was easy.
Carmax is great. I got the car I wanted. The employee that helped me was very new but was amazing....I could tell it took just a little longer because he was new but I was very understanding and patient. Great place to get a nice used car.
I arrived at 10am and was the second person there. I was told that it would take from 45 minutes to an hour to process my quote. An hour and half later, I asked them what was taking so long. They informed me that everything was done, but that they just needed the current mileage. This is perplexing considering that they had car for an hour and half. They sent a guy out to retrieve the mileage and he proceed to flirt with another employee in the parking lot. I brought this to the attention of the person in the office. Next the manager came to me and apologized and said that she would take care it. Another 30 minutes went by before I was presented with my check. I have heard nothing but great reviews on your service, sadly mine was not that.

Great experience! I worked with someone over the phone after I found the vehicle I was interested in, 2017 BMW 330e. He helped me with my trade-in and financing so that when I went into the office all I had to do was go in, test drive my car and sign my paperwork. Whole process took 2.5 hours! Great price for my trade and I was happy with the price of the car.. super easy and hassle free!
After hearing good things about CarMax from family that recently purchased their car from CarMax in Washington, we decided to give it a try. Signed up for an appointment online and mentioned the 3 cars we were interested in as long as their stock number. We worked with Pablo, who was very attentive, fast, and helpful through the whole process. He got us the cars quickly and showed us everything in a no-pressure way. Given this was our first outing doing test drives, Pablo was also very patient and welcoming... I didnt feel a time burden, and I got to shop without the whole Whats your budget? When are you deciding? Are you financing or paying cash? type of questions that typically make me uncomfortable in dealerships. Pablo instead asked us what our priorities were and gave us ideas to consider. We werent seriously looking at the Acadia before, but after Pablos thoughts and seeing one for ourselves, he really helped us narrow down our selection. I hope his sales manager sees this - you need more people like Pablo!

My sales consultant Kenneth Phillips, was a great listener. I asked to see the car i thought i wanted. we discussed it. I test drove it. bought it and then i decided it was not the car for me. I took it back, they paid all of my money back.I ordered another car. It arrived in 2 weeks as planed. I test drove it for 24 hours. I contacted my Credit Union, Star One. They processed me another loan. I picked up the check in a few hours. I went to CarMax and bought my Honda CRV 2015.Ive had the Honda 3 weeks and Im happy with how it handles on the road. CarMax took a really long time and repeatedly kept postponing the time each step would take. You then reduced the price by $2K with no good reason articulated and simply saying we felt there is some problem while driving and do not know what it is so we are reducing price. I felt this was a deliberate tactic to make more money by tiring us out. I do hope someone is reading these and investigates whether incentives to CarMax staff are such that such behavior is encouraged.

We came in today, ended up finishing our transactions with Martha. Really sweet person, matter a fact the whole carmax team was amazing. The whole experience was super smooth from start to finish. Niko was super helpful, really listened to what we wanted and was respectful of our budget.I was really apprehensive about going to look at cars, not wanting the hassle with haggling, spending all day doing paperwork.. We came, found what we wanted and were in and out of there.All in all, I really enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back!

Very terrible experience. They gave a quote lower than any dealer. They have got no knowledge on inspection. For my brand new car they say there are signs of repaint. First the lady walks at night and then send a report as the car had repaint. This is a fraud. If there was any damage or accident wouldn’t it show up on carfax? I had a good impression on carmax but all gone. Very unethical, unskilled persons. I wasted my whole evening at this ridiculous place.
Honestly overall horrible experience. Scattered staff members selling cars that barely run for over 20k and getting pressured to just buy the car instead of just doing a 24 hour test drive (make sure to do the 24 hour test drive my car had a few major malfunction within 40 miles of driving it) I will say that Ashly was really great and the only positive thing I can think of at car max. She had great customer service and made me feel like a valued friend then just someone trying to buy a car. With all these things happening and all the issues I did not see management once or get an apology(except from Ashly) for a car completely breaking down and wasting money having to use a Uber to take me home.
My experience with the CarMax CEC (Customer Experience Center) Representative was EXCELLENT. He was pro-active in resolving the challenges in a Professional and cordial way. I bought 2 vehicles through him and had them transported to a local dealership in San Jose, Ca. My experience from the local dealership delivering the vehicle to my residence due to the pandemic was Negative. Digital documents already signed were not prepared, they were an hour in a half late, disrupted dinner and made family members upset. If it wasnt for the CEC being proactive in handling the situation remotely, I would have not bought the vehicles. A successful company needs to root out the deficiencies and capitalize on the positives of the organization. I would have given you less than a star if possible. It was the CEC that deserves the 5 stars. Thank you.
