Takes bookings on Expedia and does not specify that they do not take debit cards. They tell me only when I reach the rental place, and my plan for the entire day goes crashing down because I trusted these people.Edit: Reserved a car with them recently and had a great experience. Great customer service. Very decent price. Lots of selections. I want to give 4.5 starts to cleanliness of car i got. When I went to pickup lot, it was not washed/cleaned. So could not differentiate whether it was scratch or dirt. This is something they need to take care of specially when I come from out of town and rent something I want to have peaceful of mind. It was an impromptu decision on our last day in San Francisco. I had a car for 1 night and two days to go to Yosemite. It was a very smooth process and a good price ($100 from 10am to before 11pm the next day). Many rental car places dont let you return after close without a fee. This place allowed me to return the car anytime before 11pm. They had my car ready for me at pickup and drop off was a piece of cake. Drive it into their garage and someone takes the keys from you. Simple.

Really impressed by the level of service and cost of the rental. I only rented for a couple days, but its very nice of them to valet the car down from the off-site garage one block over (you meet them there at the entrance to the garage) and you can also return your car after hours by leaving it with the valet. The car itself was clean, new, and modern, and we had no issues worth noting. The price was not expected, but very much so welcome. The lady at the office who helped us rent was polite and informative. Overall, a good experience, and hard to beat. Ill trust this place next time Im in town and need a rental.

We rented a vehicle through City Rent-A Car on our recent trip to San Francisco. Everything went smoothly. The car was ready for us when we arrived, the staff was friendly and gave us excellent directions and the process of running through every went quickly. We were in our vehicle and on the road in no time. When we returned the vehicle the staff was helpful in getting us back to our hotel. Everyone we dealt with here was polite and accommodating. I wouldnt hesitate to rent from them again.

Great service, low prices, no hassle. The car was clean and worked fine. I was 20min late in returning the car and they just said, no worries. I was afraid theyd try to charge me for an extra day but they were nice about it. Would definitely come again.

The drivers are irresponsible and almost ran over me this morning by cutting me on my fast lane while they should have waited to make a left turn on the cross roads. This happened in the North Austin area. I also have the license plate information of the vehicle. It was just a lucky day since the roads were not too busy and I was able to make a quick lane change.

The best pricing in town. We needed a car for the day and City Rent a Car was relatively close to our hotel near Union Square. Its price for a one day rental blew away the national chains. The car was clean and in good shape. Its after hours drop off was also convenient and easy. Check City Rent a Car before paying through your nose with a national chain.

Good car rental company in the city. The one thing Id say is make sure you ask about bridge tolls - because I lived here before I knew that there are no humans manning the toll booths anymore and knew to ask, but if someone didnt they might get in a pickle. Turns out there is a fairly simple system for taking care of tolls but you dont want to be caught unawares.

I couldnt imagine how easy would it be to rent a car and return it. If you are looking for a car rental place in San Francisco with quick service, good prices, and incredible convenience, this is the place. They offer free overnight parking if you need to park from a day to the next. You can also return the car late night, much after the office is closed, in a parking lot located 1 block from the office. When I drop off the car by the end of the second day of rent I admit I was kind of afraid. No check-list, no fuel check, no GPS check. I tried to inform the office that Ive returned the car but it was close. Morning next day a receipt arrived into my email box with the invoice description and everything was perfect.

Received a clean, comfortable car at a fraction of the cost of the name rental companies. Called prior to reservation and was able to quickly talk to someone who was able to answer all my questions. Took advantage of free overnight parking at the parking garage and also used the airport drop off feature that allowed us to leave downtown SF on our schedule. Office was located in Union Square, just three blocks from our hotel which made it convenient when we wanted to adjust our pickup time as well as pickup and park car. All staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Why pay 2 to 3 three times the price from the big guys when you can get the same quality vehicle with excellent customer service from Reliable.

These guys were fantastic. We were coming to the US for a family holiday (from New Zealand). It was important to us that we got the car we wanted - not whatever happened to be available when we got there. City Rent A Car guaranteed the car that we booked and sure enough, it was there waiting for us when we got there. We didnt need to ring and confirm - everything went right on the day.They also offered for a small fee ($40) that we could drop it back at the airport rather than in the city. That worked well for us and saved everyone dragging their luggage to the BART station. We were a bit worried about this just in case something went wrong between us leaving the car and them getting it. However they were 100% honest and we were only charged what they said we would be.I would thoroughly recommend City Rent a Car.By the way - our friends also hired from them at the same time and had a great experience also.Thanks heaps you guys. Best rate Ive found in the city. Easy online reservation and late night drop offs are super convenient. Downside is they run out of cars for holiday weekends so planning ahead is key. Nice folks every time Ive rented from them.

We booked with one price, but have to pay more when we arrived because the company has forgotten to let us know about extra fees. This extra price knowledge came to us just before we were about to pay (after we packed the baggage in the car and spent 30 min with documents, checks, etc.) An ideal cheating scheme!

This place was just around the corner from our hotel (The Marker). Great price, Overnight parking in their garage saved me 60 bucks a night while in San Francisco. We were able to drop off at airport. The Parking Garage is a little tight. This was much cheaper than the BIG guys.

The employees were amazing the cars were comfortable, nice and in good condition and the price was amazing!!! The only thing that I could ever say to improve them is when walking to the garage since its right next to another garage it was a little confusing but if is thats the worst of it I am more than happy to go back again!! Our car rental experience was, overall, great (especially taking into account our usual slow experiences with airport-based rentals). We walked in, got the car (a Corolla) we were hoping for, at a reasonable price, and were treated well from the start. Dropping it off again was quick and painless. We would definitely use this facility again and hope that the staff at this location continue to be as good as they were in May 2016. They even gave us all the information we needed to deal with the Golden Gate Bridge tolls - about which we were clueless until they brought it up. Car rental staff being proactive? Fantastic!

I rented a Yaris to visit Yosemite Park 2 weeks ago. Staff is very friendly, car was not new but it look like it and it was a lot cheaper than the big companies. Everything worked very well. I have rented a car from City Rent-a-car on both of my last two visits to San Francisco and will do so again. Prices are reasonable, service has been great, and the $40 drop off fee at SFO is a bargain. It costs about the same as a van to the airport but lets us schedule it at our convenience instead of the convenience of the van driver and other passengers.

My partner and I use this company all the time. They are friendly, relaxed and never push upgrades on us. They are also totally honest and have never tried to charge us for past scratches like some places do. Their cars are all in top shape. Really a great little company.

Last month we were in the area of San Francisco, wanted to rent a car for just one day. We were disappointed to find long queues waiting to be served in the best known rental companies. I would absolutely recommend City Rent-a-Car. My experience from my first phone call with them to the pick up and return of my car, was fantastic. They not only picked me up from my hotel, they brought me back to a different hotel after I returned the car. They were professional, courteous and respectful. Almost ruined a great holiday. We arrived on Saturday to find out that there were no cars available for the day since it was Saturday, which was understandable. The staff told us we were able to make a booking on Sunday after I showed him my international licence and credit card. The next day we went in hoping to rent a car to drive to Yosemite, another staff told me I couldnt rent out the car because the international license had to be used along with the Thai license, which was ridiculous. First of all, the Thai government requires a Thai drivers license to be shown before an international could be issued. So whats the point of showing the Thai license when an internationally recognized license was shown. I had no problems using anywhere else around the world. Second of all, why was the first staff OK with the International license?A really disappointing experience with what was highly recommended company.

The prices are more reasonable than the national agencies, and I like that theyre family run and the staff is stable and pleasant. Highly recommended. Make sure to ask about how to handle bridge tolls if you go to the North or East Bays! Maybe one of these days theyll equip the cars with FasTrak toll tags (this is why the one less star - otherwise a solid five!).

Rented a Toyota Yaris for one day, from their San Francisco office in Mason Street. Their rates were good, especially at short notice, but I checked their website first to see if there were any deals. Great service at the counter, the car was new and clean, and their garage was just around the corner for an easy return.Just one note: their garage, in Taylor Street, is very tight. Be very careful when you go in or out.

Ive been using City Rent-A-Car for many years and feel part of the family of fine young men who are always so gracious and helpful and professional. I like that I can drop the car off after City has closed at the Holiday Inn on Van Ness and Pine so that I dont have to keep it overnight and pay for parking, too! This is one of my go-to local car rental places. Absolutely no frills whatsoever, but the price is right and they have a customer loyalty program that lets me free rentals more often than other places in town.If I need a car for more than four or five hours in a day they quickly become cheaper than even City Car Share or Zipcar.

I just completed a one week rental from them. The service was outstanding in every respect, and their rates for were quite a bit lower than the national chains for a comparable car. I give them the highest recommendation.

Great service! In town for work, had a spur of the moment idea to rent a car to go see Muir Woods. There is one spot near Reliable which has the national brands (with LONG lines), but this is right around the corner! Waited on one customer, and agent was super efficient! Transaction completed, walked a block to get the car and enjoyed the experience!HOWEVER, the reason I love this company so much was this: I got a parking ticket and paid it when I got home. SMTA made an error, though, and I was billed it by Reliable. I called to complain, but never got the chance because the employees (Jennifer? and a cool dude) had the charge reversed (with documentation, of course!) within one business day.I appreciate that their employees go above and beyond to keep their customers happy, including after the rental! The pickup/dropoff spot is a bit confusing, but listen to the directions they give :-) and I saved a $45 valet fee at the hotel!You could give your money to some faceless, large national brand....but why would you?Highly recommend!

Quick. Friendly. Cleanest car Ive ever rented. Choice of methods to return the vehicle. Price was fair and I was charged the price I was quoted. Vehicle didnt even have a scratch on it; now what other rental vehicle have you driven that didnt even have a scratch on it?Customer service had me in and out in a wink of the eye. Covered all the details and had me sign a minimum number of papers before I drove away. While I did call ahead and reserve my vehicle (which is always a good idea) when I got there Im certain it was no more then 10 minutes from the time I walked through the front door, gave my ID and method of payment, reviewed the paper work, had the insurance explained to me (no pressure to buy addition insurance) car was brought to the front, we inspected the vehicle for it condition (no dents, scratches or dings), I sat in the vehicle, particular details for gas tank, registration and even directions on how to satisfy tolls on the Golden Gate Bridge: all this in under 10 minutes and from a service rep who was pleasant, patient and smiling the entire time. City Rent a Car; You Bet!!!!!

I dont usually write reviews but wanted to for these guys. Marianne almost scared me away but took a chance on Reliable anyway. Ours was a higher mileage Toyota that worked out great for our one day trip down the coast and back. The people were very friendly and helpful, even took the time to show us how to go on a map. We returned the car with a full tank of gas and on time. The quote was $89 for the day and the total charge on my credit card was $97 when we got home. Was expecting much higher since SF taxes are so high. We will use them again next time we travel to San Francisco.

Reliable Rent-A-Car is not reliable at all! They provided a car quickly, but they charged me afterwards a surcharge of 14 dollar on the toll of 7.50. I consider that excessive! I protested, but it didnt help at all.
