If youre new to skating watch watch some YouTube videos on how to tie your skates and other skating techniques. The rink has a lot of levels of skaters using it. Figure skaters come from the players benches wall into the center to practice their routines it would be appreciated if you werent riding your seal in the center. Hockey players have completely different techniques but once you understand the rituals going on between them its easy to navigate the Rink. Ice hurts worse than concrete but Ive had more problems with concrete if youre new take the time to get some pads rest and stretch as you need to. Its a great place, enjoy.
I absolutely enjoy coming here. The prices are decent and the shopping center is filled with great places for everyone. Food court above the ice rink is always clean and has a clear view to enjoy people watching while eating. I definitely recommend it here.
A pretty fun time. Ita a rink with some open sessions. Not too expensive for like 3 hours. I ended up wiping out and ice is pretty hard, whonwpuld have thought. Advise long pants and a long sleeve shirt as its about 50 degrees on the ice.
Always love coming here! The staff are friendly and the ice is always smooth and clean. I recommend signing up for ice skating lessons or hockey!
Awesome staff! Also they keep the skate groups small so that social distancing can be practiced well. I was very impressed to also see staff on the ice making sure people are wearing masks. The on ice staff even showed us the ropes of skating for free. Highly recommend.
Watched a hockey game while grabbing a bite to east at the food court. Nice place to watch.
The facility was niice from the little time i was there. I was particularly upset that with less than an hour of time available for skating they were still collecting full price without informing the customer of the time limit.
Lots of memories from back in the day. Still a cool place to be.
Great staff.I always enjoyed visiting this place.
Fantastic place for ice skating! Maegan was an incredible help answering all my questions for our large group! Maegan should get a Christmas bonus! Go here if youre looking for a great spot to ice skate
Great instructors, fun place for children and adults to get exercise. Staff is very friendly and easy going. The academy is amazingly priced and provides excellent lessons for adults and children.
I little pricey and gets crowded on public skating sessions but a convenient spot for some San Diego ice skating.
I went there to watch my great nephew’s hockey practice. Nice place and amenities.
Very well run. Excellent at making people feel safe during covid-19.
Really good facility As a hockey player myself ice quality is good.... doesnt look the best but still good. Nice place, I play pickup here once and a while.
Im so happy they are open for our kids now! Yay to UTC Please check the public skate times. Its 25 dollars for public skate now! But it is open! Yay.
Bring a sweater. Its chilly!Great time watching couples fall and blame each other.
COVID-19 precautions:Forehead temperature screening for entry.Face mask required to access and on ice.General screening questions. No waiver required.Mall sized ice rink. Located below the food court. There are two entrances, one in the food court and the other next to the dog park. Offers public skating, hockey lessons, stick time every Tuesday evening, and hockey leagues. I havent seen figure skating lessons at the rink.Hockey leagues: Beginners (Nickle) through Advanced (Platinum)
Can go shopping, eating and skating all in the same place
Getting to watch my granddaughter ice 🧊 ⛸ was the Best
It was amazing and so awesome
Was there before the pandemic. It was a pretty fun
This place disappoints.first off it smells.moldy as you walk in second all the skates are old and rusty.they gave my son a super rusty pair or hockey skates and when I exchanged them they gave him two different skates that did not match!I spent 50 for 2 kids I could go elsewhere like icetown in carlsbad and pay 25 for 2 kids with almost new skates and a clean rink.this place is definitely not with the money.the ony plus is that the staff was nice.
Nice big rinkPretty cold tho like 30 degrees
This review is a bit late, but we had some good times here a few months back. In the morning fewer people were there so we could practice more complicated things and in the evenings it was a bit packed but it was quite fun! I hope things are still pleasant as this was some time back. Whether you are a novice, pro or somewhere inbetween, keep skating!
This place was a very well sanitized area, and careful place. The staff treated us nicely over here, and we had the best time of our lives in this wonderful mall.
Pretty dope a lil pricy
Nice ice rank. They advertise free intro lesson but the schedule isnt clear. Also the seal helper is an additional $15. They didnt have any available and closing 30 min later. When I asked if one becomes available 10 min before closer can I have it for my 3 year old. The answer was yes but you still have to pay for it even for 5 min 😱
Get the LocalFlavor coupon for half off prices. Its kind of overpriced without the coupon.
Open and not crowded just need to register online and wear a mask at all times.
Great spot to chill out and cool off even if youre not ice skating!
They are one of the only ranks in the whole country open right now. That makes them five stars.
Super fun and safe during Covid!
My kids love it here :)
We like this rink. Its easy, conveniently located and I love that you can buy tickets online. The skates arent the best, but thats to be expected, and theyre about the same as at other public rinks. Its great that you pay for the session, however long it may be, rather than paying by the hour.
Top Points:- Small rink/facilities- Small pro shop (emergencies only)- Good skate sharpening- Good adult pickup- Cool viewing areaThis is an ice rink within a shopping mall, so understand that size limitations are in effect. The pro shop is good for emergencies and those smaller, consumable items but selection is otherwise very limited; skate sharpening is available. The locker rooms are a comfortable temperature but fairly cramped. The ice itself is good although the dimensions aren’t quite regulation. The benches are short and one has a column smack in the middle. There is a glass encased viewing area one floor above (also the mall food court), which is cool.Overall, small rink and facilities (to be expected). Good adult pickup on Sundays. Decent rink for San Diego.
Wonderful place
I know my name is Joseph Stalin but UTC Ice is my go to place for ice skating I like the fact that it is right under a food court so my Dad and I could eat right after we finish skating. The UTC I’ve employees are so nice to the costumers, I sprained my ankle once and one of the employees gave me a one free entry credit so I could come back and not need to pay because I was on the ice for about 10 minutes. I would recommend this place to all of my ice skating friends.
It is a nice ice rink and its huge! You can borrow ice skates from the back. My children said they had a great time. Its kind of cold there, so I bring a blanket.
1 of my fav rinks but with you were open for the holidays.
Still hosting hockey games. Well groomed rink.
An amazing place to skate, I had the absolute best time here! Would highly recommend!
I enjoyed taking the class at UTC ICE... BUT when I stop taking classes and cancelled my account in early Dec., the staffs made mistakes and kept charging my credit card monthly. What made me really disappointed is that, when I call for refunds, the staffs are extremely irresponsible! I have called their office 3 times just to get my money back, and the staff kept saying that their manager will make the correction and call me back very soon... it has been 4 days, and the manager never calls me back!
Love this ice rink! They have open skate all the time and its a great facility!
Playing pickup hockey. Ice is in good shape.
A bit pricey. So many people. Seriously. So. Many. Couldnt really get much space on the ice or find room to just cruise. More of a tourist attraction than an ice skating destination
Very disorganized. We had a birthday party planned and nothing had been set up yet. After the party, they said they would put everything away while the kids were out on the rink but no body came. Then they allowed the next group in the room while our belongings and all the birthday presents and food and cake were still in the room unattended. Unacceptable!!
$20 is a reasonable price for sharp skates and a clean rink but these are the features lacking at UTC ice.
I havent skated here but love to eat at the food court and watch the skaters. Hopefully the rental skates are comfortable and not the plastic kind that kill your feet.
I took my whole family here while on vacation to LaJolla and we had such a fun time. The game rooms as well as the ice rink were perfect for the kids. The mall allowed us ladies a chance to escape while, the men skated with the kids. Its a very unique and beautiful place. I will be definitely coming back next Spring.
Fun
Great ice and staff is nice and always helpful. Owner needs to hire a salesman or two and get some sponsors to advertise to offset the youth hockey fees and continue to build a strong youth club and community. Hockey coaches are strong, experienced and always encouraging. Check it out!
The young boys are developing coordination. They look comfortable on the ice and strut their stuff. They belong there. They have a girls line, all girls and when they click, they can be devastating.
Great place to come with the kids.
Ok facility others in area are nicer, skate shop is small and has limited selection. We were there for the Last Jolla Championship. Rink is set up differently with nets above the glass all the way up to the ceiling which is safe and awesome for hockey but distracting for figure skating. Seating around rink in narrow. Even the older rinks in area are set up better. Parking is in regular mall parking which is alittle far when you are taking all the stuff that comes with a figure skater on completion day. Overall just a mall with a ice rink so the thought that the others rinks put in as far as planning wasnt done when it was built. UTC is a mall first and ice rink second.
The place is good and in ticketingis fast.. Just the shoes hurt my legs so much.
Good 😊
The skills clinic is awesome. Ive done it a couple of times and I get great workout everytime. The coaches are very helpful and get the best out of you.
Heather runs a great program and all the staff is very helpful! Our daughter loves this place and the coaches. Highly recommend it!
Fun place. More hockey options the better.
This rink hasnt changed in 30 years and is still a wonderful place to go to.
Nice little rink to have fun with family! Especially with the help of the training stand that are shaped as seals, fun for the kids!
Best for children.
Great place to ice skate. We like its location surrounded by the malls for court.
Good refreshing centre with all varieties of food with other emineties.
This was horrible. These people should be ashamed. The ice was horrible and the skates were even worse. Also, the front desk was nothing but rude. There are two other ice rinks in San Diego. I suggest you choose them. Anything is better than this. (p.s many people got hurt and hit their head because of the ice)
Excelent place to hang out!, You can eat and see the people ice skating!
It was fun, but at first I couldnt skate at all then we rented a practice seal and I got the hang of it! I would definitely suggest this place!😸
Ice isnt the best, but its southern California so I think its on par with every other rink down here
Masks are required, Temps are taken and social distancing is implemented.
It was nice and awesome. Totally come again
Awesome staff. Great adult hockey leagues. Love this ice rink.
Cold! Fun for all ages.
Fun to see the game while having some dinner. Great fun entertainment
I had a nice view from the food court.
Part of Westfield shopping mall makes it convenient for non skaters to kill some time. Food court overlooking the rink is nice too. Ice and rental skates are well maintained.
Took the kids here for a public session, they were very kind and helped fit my children for the right size skate. Thank you UTC Ice for an enjoyable time!
Had a burger from Johnny Rockets. Gluten free and one of the best GF buns Ive had so far. Very light.
I dont ice skate had to use the restroom
Yet another cool thing that has been around forever (at least the 80s) in UTC is the ice rink! This is a totally fun place to come with friends, or even on a date, to just play around like youre young again and have some fun falling down.
Great ice rink for both public skating and classes, kids and adults classes available, public skating start at 1:30 most days and on Saturday afternoon they finish public early because usually hosting hockey games
UTC is a great hockey rink and the great ice quality makes all the difference during tournament play. I highly recommend UTC whether for league play or a Saturday skate time with the family.
Lovely to watch skaters during eating
Make sure to check if the ice is open to the public before you go. Some times are blocked for hockey.
Great place to free skate or learn to ice skate
Way overrated, customer service is ok, these people really believe theyre geniuses... NOT, everyone is on a different page, if youve been here a couple of times you know what I mean. They make many mistakes.
Endless fun for the whole family.
Ice is not great for hockey but its a rink.
UTC is awesome and a lot of fun. I played hockey here for a couple years and some of my best memories are at this rink.
Nice place to be ... needs more trash cans in the Food Court area.
Enjoyed the best German food at Wurst Nox
Something to watch for when your finished at the Dining Terrace, from local and U.S. vs Canada hockey games, or having an option of getting skating lessons
Autumn is a great instructor! I was feeling nervous about skating for the first time and she made me feel at ease!
