Absolutely a go. This gym take good care of students. Coach details skills very well with various options no matter if you are a beginner of experienced. The most important one, all of the students here respect each other. For family and kids, this is the best friendly place to hang out. They have female class also for self defense. On competition base, they strongly support and instruct student well both on mat and fight. I had my time here a year and half, this place made me another home.

I am in my mid 40s and started my Brazilian Jujitsu journey about 3 years ago. When I started, I had plantar fasciitis, sciatica issues, and limited mobility. My intention was to find an alternative to typical CrossFit or High Interval Training style gyms with less impact on my knees and back. A friend introduced me to BJJ and I took my first class at North Park. I did sign up and trained at two affiliate BJJ gyms because of their locations. My training was very sporadic and inconsistent at these locations. Due to unforeseen circumstances I needed to join a new gym. I sign up with NP in 2020 and it has been the best thing that has happen to me. I am consistent and attend training regularly. The instructor at the gym are world class athletes and always willing to assist everyone on their individual BJJ journey. Everyone at the gym is helpful and supportive. My intention was to find a way to improve my physical heath when I stated to BJJ. I have loss weight, improved my conditioning, improved mental health, and improved flexibly and range of motion. I have made tons of new friends young and old. I found my home gym at North Park BJJ and bless to be part of family.

When I moved to California from the south, my biggest goal was to find a jiu jitsu gym that is gi focused, technical, and most importantly female friendly. I have felt incredibly welcomed and respected across the board here, the staff knew my name the first week I trained, and there’s a female instructor, and all girls class, and a super female supportive environment all around. The instruction is very technical and the instructors do a great job teaching at every level. I’m pretty new at the sport and have felt like I know whats going on 😂 I’m super thrilled to have found NPBJJ and plan on training here for a very long time.

My experience training at NPBJJ has been fantastic. The coaches and staff have found a great balance of laid back vibe and formal/traditional training styles. The gym is very welcoming to new students and won’t try to “sales guy” you if you try a free class. 5/5

I’ve done martial arts for most of my life, and when I moved to San Diego, I decided to look for a good place to learn BJJ near my home. Ive been to good schools, and bad ones; North Park is a great one. My classmates have really become a family, and the staff really cares about you achieving your potential. It’s a great place to learn to your own level—it provides equal benefits to those looking to win competitions, as well as those looking to break out of their shell, or maybe just looking for a new hobby. The staff is incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and encourages questions. You’ll learn BJJ the right way, in a friendly and low pressure environment. If you’re in the military, it’s particularly great. There’s a solid military discount, and it’s a great place to “turn off” the military life. I’d say 30-40% of the students are in the military, but you’d never realize it. No one will be compulsively thanking you for your service or looking at you like you might have ptsd. In short—great value, high quality education in a fun environment.

Went to a free trial class and while the kids enjoyed it the complete lack of Covid protocols make us too uncomfortable to continue. No masks on teachers or the students in an enclosed and stuffy room is just not for us right now. Be prepared for that going in, we had no idea it would be that way. For some people, however, this is probably exactly what you and your kids need. For us, vaccinated or not, it’s too soon to be this close to other people, especially given who else we could potentially expose.

North Park BJJ has been a great experience the past month. I had no experience on the mats before joining and only a month in I feel like I have learned a lot and have been exposed to high-level movements and techniques. The professors are highly knowledgeable in a multitude of techniques from jiu-jitsu, wrestling, and self-defense. They follow a curriculum that allows you to understand the chosen move thoroughly, before moving on. After the class, you can roll/spar with quality training partners for 30min to an hour. If you commit to the art you will be able to grow exponentially here at North Park BJJ. 100% recommend.

North Park BJJ is perhaps one of the most friendliest BJJ communities I have met, Professor Mike, Professor Paulete, and Professor Audric take their teaching very serious. Throughout my time of training here theyve showed me so much about the art of BJJ and a way to keep my mentality good. I had anxiety and some other stuff for a while and they taught me to remain calm even in the worse situations. Overall I will be coming back. This is a community well worth your time.

I have been with NPBJJ now for almost a year and has been some of the best instruction and training I have had during my 5 years of training Jiu jitsu. All the training partners are great and everyone is eager to learn and make others better. Everyone has been super friendly and there is no ego, everyone there just loves training Jiu jitsu. If you’re looking for a great place to train with awesome instruction in a fun/clean environment, look no further.

Dope spot, used to bring my 3 yr old to train in the toddlers class but he wasn’t as focused as his older 7 yr old bro. My eldest looks forward to coming hearing all the time, we’re gonna start committing at least 4 days a week in July consistently moving forward because the classes are that comprehensive. Coach Paulette is really great with the kids and knows how to connect with the kids and get them to pay attention and focus in class.

I was not allowed to train here. I was told one of the owners doesnt like me. As I remember I actually coached this guy to a victory at 2013 pan am . I honestly cant think of any reason he wouldnt like me; other than the fact that I used to beat him all the time with relative ease . Also, the location is not in North Park. It is in City Heights.

Do it! Go train. This place is GREAT. Read further for details.Just wrapped up a session at North Park Brazillian Jui Jitsu and I can recommend this place strongly, without hesitation as your primary training center or your go to place for a drop in session as you travel through for work, vaca or whatever brings you to SanDiego.I travel a-lot for work and get opportunities to roll at different gyms nationally and internationally. I can say North Park was exceptionally welcoming. Everyone was friendly, willing to train hard, work hard, teach and learn. Jamie Reynoso was the instructor tonight and the instruction was clear with logical progression. I got a chance to roll with him. He is a monster. I never once felt like things were out of control or that i was at risk. Also, props to their purple belt that was finishing the kids class on my arrival at the gym. He had clear expectations, class control and demonstrated what seemed to be infinite patience. Thanks you guys and i hope to return before i fly out.

I came in just to have my little one, Kaia who is 8yrs old, to learn self defense and discipline. The people here are super friendly and knowledgeable and suggested I train along with my daughter for encouragement. Three months later and 20lbs less I can honestly say this was the best thing that has happened to someone over 40 and I recommend this for all ages! This school has top notch professors in Mike and the rest of the coaches!

Ive been training in Jiu-jitsu for 7-8 years so I know what Im looking for in a gym when I first walk into a new place. Professor Michael Cusi, the Head Instructor at North Park BJJ, is truly one of the best kept secrets when it comes to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructors in San Diego. I fully intended on this being just a hobby... when I started with Professor Cusi, but 5+ years of training, a purple belt, and a masters division world championship title later I can honestly say that Professor Cusi taught me more than Jiu Jitsu he introduced me to the BJJ lifestyle. Im over 40 and in the best shape of my life and my daily BJJ workout is the best part of my day!
