I am so very happy to be back at the Mission Valley Y. I’ve missed it these last 6 months. I was very relieved to see how seriously they are utilizing Covid precautions. They monitor how many clients are in the facility and they shut down for two hours each day to completely sanitize. As always everyone is ultra supportive and caring. It’s my Y for life.

I absolutely love the Mission Valley YMCA. It is not the closest YMCA to my house, but I choose to go here because the facilities are outstanding. I use the weight room a couple of days a week. Find the equipment adequate and the staff is very helpful. I also swim with the masters swim team three days a week in the morning. Coach Scott is amazing! He keeps it fun, light, interesting and you leave feeling like youve had a good workout. The facility is very clean and well equipped.

Visited this Y while on a business trip. Two pools - one indoor and one out. The outdoor pool is beautiful; a real treat to swim in. The locker room was bright and roomy. I found my interactions with the staff to be pleasant as well. One note: i incorrectly assumed this Y provided towel service. It doesnt, so if you are visiting from out of town Dont forget your towel.

One of the largest YMCA in SD. The gym/free weights area is quite comfortable and has plenty of room for everyone. The treadmill area has a massive amount of machines. Locker rooms have lockers to choose your own combo or you can use your own locks. I love this place. This is my gym. My 3yo son loves the day care and I love to be able to workout. He loves the pool and I love that its indoors and keeps him out of the cold. All the equipment is clean and organized. Its always in great working order. And if you dont know how to use something the staff is always willing to show you how! 😅They have a smoothie/snack bar that I am in love with because I can get a protein shake if I forget mine. But usually we get ice cream or popsicles. They have a pretty large selection for being a little snack bar. Many smoothies, shakes, and snacks to choose from. They have 3 refrigerators with drinks and other refrigerated snacks.

Extraordinarily disorganized. They keep either no records or terrible records. Sign your kids up for a class, good luck; even if you were first to sign up they may boot your kids in favor of someone who signed up 3 weeks later because they didnt keep track of the number of spots in the class. Nobody ever answers the phone, either.

Summer Camp: Compared to our local Y, the summer camp offerings and volume of kids is exponentially greater at the Mission Valley Y. I was dreading my daughter not being able to adjust to so many kids. At the end of day 1, she said she absolutely LOVED IT. Its a little further out of the way for me, living in North Park and working in Chula Vista, but if kiddo is happy, I get to maintain that much more sanity heading into work. Also, the 6:30 AM drop and extended after care (at no extra cost) is like GOLD.

Daughter had summer camp adventure and laser tag weeks here and she really enjoyed It compared to the Balboa camp cahito. For stating outside in the front she seemed to have a great time at all the various stations. They did offer drop off from 730- 9 in the morning but I had to drop off at 645 so I didnt get to take advantage of that but its good to have that during peak hours.

I love the Y! Not sure what others dislike. If you sign up for this Y you get into four locations, I pretty much use this one and Hazard. This y has a great cardio room and I like the classes. I wish more of my friends would join the Y because its a way better value with the tons of classes they offer, but I wont leave it just to work out with friends at 24 hour fitness because its that much better. Also I read something below about the womens lockers. They totally redesigned them this Spring.

This YMCA has pushed to improve everyone’s experiences. They offer classes for all ages. Some are on high demand which means you have to get on the list early. For the kids lessons we are talking months before the summer time arrives.Fitness rooms are well lite and allow ample space to work out which ever way you like. Recommend if your free lifting to not go during high traffic times and you should be able to work through your whole workout without interruptions.Swim lessons for the young ones are only as good as the instructor. We have had both good and mixed reviews but we will be back for more.Child watch is a plus if you have youngsters because for the price of the family membership, just the care time makes it a deal.

Great value, especially if you have kids. Young children can be left in the youth room while you work out, and older kids have multiple options of classes such as swimming, basketball, water polo, etc. During summer there are many activities and camps to choose from as well. The gym equipment is regularly replaced with newer models and there are exercise machines for all types of workouts. For the kids they offer summer camps, holiday camps, basketball, baseball for kids as well as adults. Spinning, cardio, power rooms with all types of equipment and bikes. You can contract for private instruction or just get into a group setting. Lots of parking but at times its limited. Handicapped parking, wheelchair accessible. Staff are informative & friendly, they also have a small snack area. There is a kid club for children and a nite out club for those who want some time without the kiddies. I was made aware of the wait list and how I would need to wait for an instructor to become available at the time I desired.....well...I never got anything in those 3-4 months. I followed up by phone every 3 weeks and I was given the same long wait excuse. Finally, I was told to email the head of the swimming department. No response. Not even a hey, I got your email. This location is a little small but very clean, and the staff is super nice! The reason Im giving this Y 3 stars is because of the people that workout here. Ive seen prejudice against transgender people occuring here on multiple occasions. Im not trans myself, but on three different days now I have witnessed privileged middle-aged white women saying demeaning things about transgender people working out in their same vicinity. These people are doing nothing to them and they go out of their way to make them feel uncomfortable. Ive also had older people at this Y be extremely rude to me and touch my belongings while I was working out. Honestly, Ive been to many other YMCAs around San Diego, and the members here make it feel like a very conservative place. I would suggest working out at a different location if you want a more inclusive feeling environment. I wish there was more the staff could do to provide inclusivity and a comfortable space for all, but I understand they are limited.

I left a 5-star review about a year ago but recently some things have changed so Im updating my review.1. The gym has become too crowded. Sometimes you cant find any available cardio machines or even a little space to stretch. Coming between 4:00pm and 7:00pm is no longer a pleasant experience. Minus one star.2. If youd like to use a jumping rope, you have to look for a staff member and ask them to unlock the room where they keep jumping ropes. They give it to you in exchange for your ID. When youre done using it, you have to look for a staff member again to give it back to them and get your ID back. They used to keep jumping ropes next to the dumbbells available to everyone at any time. All other gyms still do. This new policy is ridiculous. Minus one star.3. They used to have a digital scale in the mens locker room but its been gone for over a month now. I asked several different staff members what happened and they all told me It broke so we ordered a new part for it and it is on its way. Well, its been about 6 weeks and there is still no scale in the mens bathroom. Just buy a new scale $15. WTF. Minus one star. The only reason Im still a member here is because I live very close to it - 5 minutes by walking. Very convenient :)

They had to go back and forth between Kaysi Howington their Department Head & their customer service person, Araceli Alejandre; which is Member Engagement Director to make a decision, why?I had filed a dispute with American Express to get a refund and cancel my services. I was planning on returning, both my wife and I but after this horrible customer service experience we will not be returning, and we are going to tell people about our experience. What an enormous waste of time to cancel a simple monthly membership. No one should have to be subjected to making multiple phone calls, emails, etc to cancel a membership; this is 2018!Why not let your members click a button to pause or cancel their membership? What a waste of membership dollars to have to engage multiple people to cancel a membership. How about YOU make it easy for me to do business with you?Sounds crazy right? The culture is one of how much can we squeeze of our members and make it a pain the butt to cancel their membership, you need a new customer experience plan because the current one sucks!
