I have known the owners for over 8 years and have taken a family member to Mind Works. Therefore, I can speak of them both personally and professionally. There truly is no better place for this service, especially for children and young adults. On the personal level, I know how much they truly care about everyone they meet. On a professional level, the entire staff is a reflection of the dedication to helping others and competence that gets results that the owners exude. During the incredibly trying time of this pandemic and the fear and anxiety it has caused many people, we are incredibly blessed to have Mind Works available to support.

We spent a lot of time and money for testing and evaluation for our son’s ADD to explore alternative medication therapy. Our family suffered a death and divorce and when we needed their help the most for our son we were turned away and with NO Empathy or care about helping him. We were established with the doctors and therapists and we (especially my son) felt comfortable with their staff which as most understand is often very challenging. They don’t want to be subpoenaed in the event of a custody battle however I was able to provide them with proof that was not an issue nor even a potential issue in our case and they didn’t care and wouldn’t even consider making an exception to help my son. The Represenative I spoke to was uncaring and rushed me off the phone when I tried to “politely and desperately” explain how important it was. What ever happened to putting a child patient who needs help first? If you mention anything about separation or divorce be prepared to hey turned away and referred out. Oh and she even said that most if not all practices have the same policy and to inform the therapist office she referred me to if they have the same policy and believed they do…Then why did she refer them to me? I can only conclude that they were just wanting to appear like they were helping us and setting me up for rejection again. What a sad situation when a practice who’s mission is to help children with complex issues puts themselves before the children they are supposed to be helping.

My son who is 11 years old started going and seeing a counselor. Our son was thriving and enjoyed going even when he thought he didn’t need it. We had a total of 4 visits. After we were called for the 5th visit we were informed that the counselor Was out on medical leave we completely understood then weeks passed and we were informed she would no longer be at the practice. We understood at the time because things and situations happen. We chose to stay with the practice after discussing it with our son to make sure he was comfortable. During the transition COVID happened and he did video calls with a new counselor and did a total of 4-5 visits. My son made another great connection with another counselor! We were then informed this counselor was leaving. My husband and I saw such an amazing improvement from our son. Due to this happening twice and turnover, we have chosen to find someone else in hope to find a long time counselor for our son.

Awful experience, I was interested in getting my son seen ( we’d be out of pocket payers) however the woman who called me back first asked for his insurance. When I said it would be out of pocket, she immediately said they wouldn’t have availability at this location without even checking the schedule mind you. When I said you have nothing at all? Which I’m not buying she said “maybe within the next 3 months”. Nope do not take your children here, mental health care for children is close to non existent in San Antonio or they only care if you have insurance. That just gives me opportunity to find a way better place that actually cares about the well being of a child’s mental health.

Ive had the privilege to work with the Mind Works team and have been impressed with their kindness and work ethic. Each of the clinicians are dedicated to helping as many lives as they can possibly fit into their schedule and they are truly making a positive difference. Mind Works strives to be a one-stop-shop by including a large range of therapy specialties and testing options, and is very connected in their community so as to make quality recommendations when needed. Tracy Main at Mind Works is amazing. She has really helped my son navigate through his feelings. I’m thankful that she continues to validate and support him as well as teach me along the way.

Great staff, kind. However, they gave my son an Autism diagnosis when he was 3. This had an emotional and financial impact on us. My life began to revolve around treatments. But I had still had unanswered questions. My son had gone through extensive testing with Mr. Gabe. Yet 2 years, at a different location my son had more testing and was given a language disorder diagnosis. Now we target only what he needs. What I went through with ABA therapy was ridiculous. I contacted Mindworks twice about this misdiagnosis. Heard nothing back. So, I am sure they are better at some things than others. I am so glad I had my son retested, but I can’t get back what I lost during those two years.

The front desk staff is kind and courteous and helped me find the right therapist for my child. When I met my therapist she was kind and explained the process to me. I love that she included me in the play therapy process and helped me understand how to help my child. Thankful for the therapists at Mind Works!
