Been shopping thrift forever. The store is well organized and easily maneuvered; which is a feat unto itself with department style thrift. There is a lot for sale-That said there just wasn’t a whole lot here as far as quality. The few quality items were out of season, or locked up, and everything is priced fairly but again it was a whole lot of meh/below average items. Lots of toys that aren’t complete or usable, lots of cheaper electronics/electrical, plyboard type shelving that has seen better days, lots of well used frypans you get the idea. I also kinda feel like anything is put out regardless of condition, found lots of shirts with holes, dirty/filmy things and peeling plastic purses, well worn name brands that might have someLife left. Friendly/efficient staff and well kept/clean carts, fitting rooms-clean store in general. This store probably is best shopped daily to find gems or quality items. Ample parking/carts.

I drive past several other thrift shops to go to this one.Customer service is wonderful and accommodating. The Sugarhouse Deseret Industries location was such a blessing to our family. We had been turned away at another D.I. location and were considering our options, as we did not want to dispose of the items at the landfill. We made some adjustments to our load and tried again at the Sugarhouse D.I. We were very relieved that they would at least take half of our load (they ended up taking the full truck load!). All of the workers helping to unload our very large donation (26 foot moving truck) on a busy Saturday were so very helpful and kind. We had been through a difficult battle with probate and cleaning out our mothers house. Thank you for your great work and service!!!

Very unimpressed with some of the staff here. While being checked out I was told by the women checking me out that I was to young to have a baby and I “looked about fifteen” in reality I’m 19 and my baby is 4 months old. I shouldn’t be judged and told I’m to young to be a parent while I’m just shopping. Will not be returning because of the judgmental staff here.

I have an odd story about that place. Along with all the stuff that Mormons donate for free for their church to turn around and sell at top thrift store prices they also sell a few new essential items like socks, underwear etc. Last winter I went there to buy a couple of packs of socks for a clothing drive to help homeless people keep warm. I looked around and could not find the socks display so I asked an employee where they were. She told me they were locked up in a glass case. Puzzled I asked why in the world their socks were kept under lock and key? I mean who in the hell keeps their socks locked in a glass case? She explained to me that needy and homeless people were stealing them so they had to lock them up. Seriously? Sort of seems like if someone is desperate enough to have to steal socks then maybe they should just hand them out for free especially in the wintertime. Real Christian spirit of giving wouldnt you say?

UPDATE: I changed it from 1 star to 5 because I went in and discussed the below complaint with the manager, Bryan, who then made things right. He apologized profusely for the behavior of the lady and said that never should have happened.I just called to see about a possible furniture trade or donation for our schools faculty room and the woman who answered the phone was so rude. I asked to speak with a manager because she did not get what I was saying. Her response: Sorry we are not interested. Then hung up!!!! How rude! I called her back and told her she did not need to be rude. Our school, our families, and friends have supported this location by donating and purchasing props and such from there for performances and plays. Way to show the love back DI!!! If she had just said something along the lines of, Our managers are busy now. I am not sure if we can do something like that. OR maybe we can do tax exempt or anything other than being rude and hanging up....I would probably had just gone down, donated our teachers old couches and bought nicer ones. What a great rep for the DI! WOW!!! I WILL NOT BE GOING TO THIS LOCATION AGAIN AND WILL MAKE SURE OUR PARENTS, STUDENTS, AND FACULTY ARE AWARE AS WELL!!!!!

There has been another shift at this store. It looks like new management is tossing tapes in the trash again. For all other items, this store is pretty solid. But sending good media to the landfill when people are willing to pay for it is deplorable behavior. If you dont have enough room on your media shelves, simply put the tapes in a box and sell them in your yard area. Or just keep them in their cases and price the whole thing.Selling them cheap is better than throwing them away.

Great price. They now toss some of the junk CDs, so they have better selection now (the price rises from 50 cents to a dollar though). Most items are cheap. Sometimes some items are a lot more expensive than the others, but they are not necessarily better. So it can be a bit random. They also dont have many selections of clothes for men.

Deseret Industries on 2100 South and 800 East is THE store to come to when you want the higher class clothing items. The Savers also on 3300 South and 3300 East also has the really expensive clothing items as well. This is because they are both in affluent neighborhoods. They are aware that they have name brand clothing and price them a little bit above what you find at other DIs so expect to pay a couple bucks more per item than you usually do. But it is still mighty worth it! They keep this DI very organized, which cannot be said of every DI that I visit. I appreciate the time it takes to organize a thrift store because there are so many who shop at a thrift store who do not leave it as they found it. Any manager who can get their people to do that continually is doing an excellent job with their staff!

Watch out for your safety very carefully. There were about 20 people that are resellers here today. I made the mistake of waiting for an employee, pushing a loaded cart past me. When she parked the cart the resellers pushed and shoved each other, the poor employee was knocked down to the ground. When I tried to help her back to her feet, I too was knocked to the ground. I spoke with the store manager and he said there was nothing he could do. He said this happens all day every day. Shame on the resellers thinking some used item is more important than the health and wellbeing of other humans. Shame on the manager for allowing others to behave in this manner. Every cart brought out is followed by a reseller mob and it is supported. So sad.

I was vising out of town and went to Sugarhouse Deseret Industries last week Tuesday around 5.30 PM to find out if there is anything I cannot live without. While I was shopping, I have noticed a couple believed to be in their mid 30s were shopping with their backpacks on their back. Then the male person wen to the front and got a shopping cart to put the clothes they were selecting to buy. To my surprise the female person started shoving the clothes in to her back pack and took out another backpack to put more clothes in. I was little bit intrigued and started to pay more attention to this specific couple. After a half an hr. they started to heading towards the main exit door and nonchalantly started walking out from the exit door. I was dumbfounded why the manager was not paying attention, even though she was up by the register noticing what they were doing. Then I approached the manager and informed her about what happened and she said, she noticed them and mentioned to me there is nothing they can do about it. I lost my words and thoughts because of her response. If the public is bringing goods to Deseret Industries and hoping they will use those donate items towards a good cause, yet leaving doors open without any monitoring to STEAL by anybody was not a good impression. If this incident replicate with other Deseret Industries locations, as public we need to inform the public how Deseret industries are treating the donated goods and not to donate to DIs.

I talked with three managers and they all said each store prices differently. I can understand this on clothing, shoes, ect. But, we are talking about mason jars. They are about as standard as you can get. I can buy brand new mason jars for less than a buck a piece. And, they had no lids. All the jars I bought today had lids. Lots of books of all kinds, VHS tapes and small stuff like kitchen and so on. Clothing selection is pretty good (Im a fat old man, so thats what I look for). Only negatives are pretty much for all DIs. I always say that Im a 3X guy in a XL world. If you are looking for large shirts, its a real hassle. They stop sorting them at XL, so I have to look through a bunch of XLs to find the one or two 3Xs. How about another size marker-over XL? Also the cables are usually in one great big ball. Be good to sort them at least. Overall, Im very pleased and would recommend this store to anyone.

A Recent trip was a surprising reward all in its own.A businesses true assets are its Employees, highest commodity by far. Was reminded of this when my personal, brand new $150 Longboard was stolen out of my shopping cart when I turned to get a drink from the fountain.A Couch Rat my new term for the group we all know and cant stand who inhabit every DI in the valley (i now know why they get a bad rap) had been following me throughout the store waiting for a specific, deliberate and precise time to slither into my basket and onto my property. It was noticed in the wrong hands by an alert and self aware associate named Sonja who works the mens clothing Dept. Recognizing it as not being the mans property while he was at the registers attempting to solicit a price from another unsuspecting associate. she proceeded and approached the thief, catching him red handed, took initiative and seized the stolen property walking it to her managers office to be held until I could be found. I am so grateful for people like Sonja of the Sugar House location, many of the DI locations are severely and discreetly understaffed. The rate of pay is obscene in todays economic turmoil ($7.25) certainly not worth bothering to act as not only an associate but their security as well? She never expected a reward or asked, never implied she deserved anything extra. Just an honest caring individual willing to make a stand against Dishonest often aggressive customers who use non-profit organizations for their own personal profit.DI management has a responsibility to step up and take care of aggressive shopping tactics and outright theft. Associates and customers should never be victimized like they are.Hmm.... DI Management paid decent livable salaries V.S. DI Associates 7.25 hr with a cap on hours @ 28 a week.Who should be handling security?I know!Lets pay obscene amounts to off duty LDS police officers to work overtime while sitting around and allowing dangerous shopping conditions to run rampant and people like myself be (almost) victimized.
