I recently inherited a bunch of old knives who were owned by my great-great grandfather, who was a butcher. These have been in my grand-parents kitchen drawer for a very long time. Worth Every Penny! Outstanding work and reasonable prices. Dropped off on a Wednesday and had everything back on Friday. 14 knives, two loppers, three scissors, and some pruning shears. All looking brand new with blades back to their original sharpness. Doug, the owner, is very personable and did a great job communicating with me throughout the process. I contacted numerous places in the Salt Lake valley, and Doug was by far the best communicator. Importantly for us he also does serrated blades which other locations do not. We dropped off three knives, two serrated on a Friday night and he had them ready for us the next afternoon, nicely wrapped up. All the knives were wonderfully sharpened. It was a bit more of a drive for us to come from the south end of the valley, but Im very glad we did. The cost was lower than other locations, the communication was superor, and the hours were more convenient.

Doug got back to my initial phone inquiry within minutes, setting up a time that was convenient for me. Meeting up with him I was pleasantly surprised when he told me he would quote me before getting to work sharpening my knives (believe me, I had been dreading a huge invoice). His rates were very reasonable but the best part was when I got home. I gave him knives that hadn’t been sharpened in decades; these were hand-me-downs from my college roommate’s grandmother. I went home and tried slicing one piece of a tangerine with each knife and they all glided through, despite the fact I had left it out to dry to really test the knives. If you live in or around Salt Lake City THIS is the guy to go to.

I HIGHLY recommend Doug when you need your tools sharpened!I took my own, and later my moms, sets of gardening shears and loppers.  Theyd all been used for years at various friends gardens and yards, and were sorely dull.Communication is key to me, and Doug was highly responsive via text, gave me an estimation of cost and (short!) timeline.The quality of work on the sharpened blades is flawless, and theyre cutting as good as new!  He finished them when he said he would.He met curbside with touchless hand off, wearing a mask, and we even chatted landscaping (mutual passion!).

Bonneville Sharpening Service was an absolute delight to work with. Doug, the owner, is possibly the most pleasant service provider I have used in Salt Lake. It is an easy drop off and in 24 hours, pick up. I brought him over 20 knives, 2 pairs of scissors and pruning shears. He went over all of them with me as to what I wanted, checked with me via text on some questions and upon picking up, the knives were wrapped and tied in a strong paper for safety. I have used a few so far and the knives are fantastic. Doug did a superb job, with a highly professional attitude. Bonneville Sharpening Service is the only place anyone should trust with their knives or other items to be sharpened.

I was really happy with Bonneville Sharpening Service! My grandfather passed down an original Bowie knife that he carried in the Vietnam War. Both me and my grandfather were very impressed with the condition of the knife. It really meant a lot to me that Doug handled it with such care. He sharpened the blade and put tsubaki oil on the handle to further preserve it. Doug sharpened 4 knives and 2 paper cutters for me for a very reasonable price. Once you get knives and ect. sharpened you always wander - why did I wait so long? The bread knife cut through homemade bread like it was butter and carrots sliced quickly with a smaller knife. I was satisfied with all of his work. Doug was a pleasure to work with and our knives came back promptly and very sharp. Unlike my own feeble sharpening attempts the sharpened knives are holding the edge and making short work of our tomatoes weeks after his sharpening. I am looking forward to having him take care of our older shears and pruners before gardening season begins in earnest. I did not do an extensive comparison but I thought his rates were very reasonable and off the record I would have been fine paying more given the quality of service and results.

Doug sharpened and tuned my old reel mower, now it cuts grass as good as new! It is over 50 years old, and I remember many days mowing my parents lawn as a kid. Over the past few years, using it in my current front yard, its been getting a bit long in the tooth, and difficult to use. Doug not only sharpened the cutting element, but made sure the gears were relubricated and running smoothly. He replenished the wooden roller with linseed oil and even made sure to refasten one of the loosening grips! Great work, and hes a real craftsman who cares about his customers.

Bonneville Sharpening Service is unparalleled. I just got my 15-year old Wusthof knives back and they feel sharper than new. A couple of old nicks are now unnoticeable. Doug doesnt use a household knife sharpener. He first puts a bevel on the blade using a belt sander, then individually hones each blade with stones by hand. The results are incredible. Doug also rubbed mineral oil on the block. Thats the extra mile! If you appreciate your knives, and have a high quality set, entrust them to Doug. (Full disclosure:. Ive known Doug for a number of years, since our kids were in preschool together. That means I can vouch for his integrity. Hes the best!)
