I got to meet Pegasus today he sure was a good horsey! Kinda spirited but we ended up pals.Went here for my wifes birthday and it sure was fun. Way cool to see This is the Place from a horse. The views of the Salt Lake Valley are just different from horseback.The guides were cool, the horses well trained and overall was an incredible experience. You wont be disappointed just go ahead and do it!

We enjoyed our trail ride. It is a little more urban surroundings even though it is in a park, but still beautiful. Not too challenging for beginners. Staff were friendly.

Went on the hour trail ride with my grandson and son-in-law, both first time riders and they loved it! And I wished I would have come up earlier myself and not wait for a visit from the family. Will definitely do it again! James was great, it was only the three of us so it was like a personal your. Experienced riders might find it boring, but if youve never been up here, youll miss out on some awesome views

Reservations are required, and easy to get. The vista from the mountain trail is awesome. The horses are gentle and the pace is slow. The guides are informative and kind. If you must ride UTA to go there, ride RT 3.

James has been awesome with scheduling and rescheduling for us. Even being a bit chilly out it was good fun! Horses were very amiable also.

Went horseback riding as a family and had a great time! We were all first time riders but had no problems! James was awesome and there was a really nice breeze that kept us cool for the ride! Would recommend!

We enjoyed riding horses at Western trail rides at this is the place at Heritage Park trail. Most of our party were beginners riders and they all said that hey felt very safe. Besides, we all enjoyed the comfortable saddles. I truly recommend using this horse trail ride service. Great customer service and the views are super cool! We were able to ride seeing mountain and city’s view. We are coming back again!

We went here for our anniversary and had a great time. The view is amazing! I would suggest going on a day after a storm or on a windy day so that you can have a clear view of the valley. It was a fun time, dont be afraid to ask for a pause on the trail for a photo op, hes patient with those things. Note: Bring a helmet if you need one because they are not provided. This is the only downside of this place as helmets are very important when riding horses.

So much fun! Beautiful sights too. The wranglers were so friendly. We got there signed a waiver and within 10 minutes we were gathered. Mounting and dismounting was pretty fast too. They also have a stool to stand on just in case your too short to get your foot in the stirrup. The ride was just the right length too. We rode around the mountain and around the park. The view of salt lake was absolutely beautiful, I would imagine it would be breathtaking in any season especially the fall with all the different colors. Jeans or workout pants and athletic shoes are perfectly fine to wear. No shorts unless you don’t mind chaffing from the buckles, stirrups and saddle.

My husband and I came up for a sunset ride and it did not disappoint it was breathtakingly beautiful the fall colors and the view was amazing. James was so friendly and helpful and made us feel so comfortable riding. Great date night or family activity . We are going to come back in the winter time with our kids. This is a must do activity if you go to this is the place. The view is so amazing. Great conversation the whole ride felt safe the whole time we even got to see a few deer. I highly recommend going the fall colors are amazing.. really anytime of the year would be amazing

Fun Horseback Riding. Great staff. You show up and sign some waivers in an old fashioned barn that sets the tone. Then you are off for an hour-long walk through the foothills of Salt Lake City with a view of the valley.

The trail ride wasnt challenging but for those with little to no horse experience. James, the guide, is very nice and very experienced. My friend and I enjoyed ourselves, for the money Id highly recommend.

Great experience on a one hour ride in mid June ride. The horses were beautiful, the scenery was amazing, and James was both knowledgeable and entertaining.

Highly recommend Western Trail Rides. We did the hour long ride today with my 2 daughters and 2 of their friends. The horses are well trained, and the views were amazing. We actually got to see a lot of wildlife too! I felt that our safety was definitely a high priority which was reassuring.

Fun experience! The staff was helpful & kind. The horses gentle and well trained. We walked right over a snake on the trail and the horses took it in stride.

Would not reschedule during pandemic. Even with known restrictions . Mid april is when this happened. Still charged the deposit. But we stayed safe. Poor business practices for a time of uncertianty.

We loved our experience riding horses at This is The Place. Our guide, Ross, was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We lucked out and had beautiful weather, and loved being with the healthy and well taken care of animals. The view is beautiful, and it was fun to be up in the foothills of the mountain. Wants to charge us a $50 fee to reschedule even though we are in the middle of a pandemic and cant get a babysitter due to social distancing measures. When the world is being kind and helping each other out, this company isnt. There was no communication from the company prior saying they were allowed to continue operating under Salt Lakes stay home order and their website said they were closed. Really terrible costumer service.

A great experience, for my 9 year old daughter which was her first time riding a horse. The hour trail ride gave us a chance to get out of busy SLC and enjoy the he real UT . The guides James and Taylor were incredible guides very knowledgeable answered all questions and made my feel comfortable right from the beginning. Really enjoyed visiting here today. Could have spent a lot more time. Purchased a season pass as we were leaving so we could come again. Enjoyed the baby animals and visiting the black Smith shop was great.

Ive done two trail rides here and both experiences were good! The views are beautiful, and the terrain is varied so youre not just plodding along a flat track. Our guide James was great and was very sweet to my young daughter.

This place is no where near handicap accessible!!!It made me so angary due to my father in law in a wheel chair couldnt do more then half of everything because he couldnt get into the buildings either due to stairs or the door way not big enough to fit the wheelchair!!!

We love this place. The first time we rode horses from them was just I and my husband and it was for his birthday. Then we took our two kids for their first time, we thought they would be nervous, but didnt great for their first time riding the bigger horses.

James gave us a wonderful ride with beautiful horses. He patiently taught my granddaughter how to show her horse who was boss. She can even ride without holding the saddle horn!

Fun place with lots to do. The buildings werent as interesting for my two-year-old, but he loved the animals and train.

Very friendly staff.... Beautiful horses I wouldnt mind if we could feed and brush them after a trail ride to enhance the experience ... Staff helped and taught us how to ride and assisted us when needed ... My wife and I most definitely will be back next time were in Utah

We took a trail ride on cold and rainy 10th of December 2016. Very handsome and sweet, Taylor cheerfully guided us through the wonderful hilly trails and told us such engaging stories and a lot of history all rolled into a one hour memorable ride. Wow!! Experience of a lifetime and thanks to James and Taylor.

We got one of the $20 winter trail ride specials and it was fantastic. The horses are gentle and well behaved and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

I took my three kids 6,7, and 8 on the trail ride. The horses are not well train. One horse got scared and the others went crazy. My kids and I were thrown off our horses. I broke my arm in two places. Never again!

Went for candel light christmas. Had a great time kids and grandparents loved it.

This place tries to be both a historical site and a family theme park, and it pulls it off better than one would expect.

You need to visit Candlelight Christmas here at This Is The Place State Park. Allow yourself a few hours time to be able to wander around and check out all the historic buildings.

I received a groupon from my parents for Christmas for my husband and I to go on a 90 minute horse back ride. We found out 2 weeks later we were pregnant and our doctor strictly said he would never say it was okay for a pregnant woman at any point in pregnancy to go horse back riding (because the bumpiness could separate the placenta from the uterus). The groupon says, The amount paid for this voucher with This is The Place Heritage Park NEVER EXPIRES. The promotional value expires May 27, 2016I just got off the phone with James who said he owns the horse part of this park and he told me I cannot use this groupon next season and that I should risk the life of my growing baby because his wife and mom both did and its fine. Ive never in my life talked to a more rude person on the phone trying to figure out a way to make this present from my parents work. Telling a pregnant woman to risk the life of her baby is vile and unacceptable and James needs to seriously rethink how he treats his costumers.I will not support a company that is supposed to be family friendly but doesnt care about an unborn child.

Not recommended - questionable safety. Ride leader seemed anxious and unhappy, had many tales of injury and accidents. The lead horse had escaped the pen and we were accused of releasing it (we did not). Horse requested for a nervous rider had extreme head tossing habits. A rather poor experience.
