My daughter has always struggled with Math. I took her into the Sylvan in Layton where Joli put my daughter through an assessment to determine the best course of action. Joli was incredibly kind and worked so well with my daughter. My daughter can be rather difficult and stubborn especially when it comes to her schoolwork. Joli was able to develop a plan that is working for us. I would recommend Sylvan to any parent who is struggling with keeping their kids on task and comprehending any courses.

The cost is exorbitant in light of the service provided. My daughter enjoyed attending and improved in school as a result of the homework assistance program, but the service fell short. Though the tutors/instructors are diverse in age, ethnicity, and religion, the administrative staff is homogeneous and VERY young. It reminded me of when I took my daughter to Lagoon Amusement Park and paid the 14-year-old kid at the food stand $1.00 for fry sauce. It wasnt the $1.00 price that bothered me so much as it was the fact that a kid, who was possibly making the youth minimum wage ($4.25 per hour), sold it to me for that price. Moreover, at Sylvan the hour you pay for is actually only 50 minutes of instruction. In response to the Owners response, it is true that Sylvan Learning has been very accommodating and worked hard to keep our business. In fact, my daughter has continued to attend, though less frequently and in their standard program rather than homework assistance. The manager, Nick, is very knowledgeable and is a very valuable academic resource. The assistant manager, Stacie, is very helpful. However, my issue with Sylvan is their business model. Though Im sure they arent the only company that has a large gap between what they charge the customer and what they pay their employees, there are better values available locally in this market. That said, Sylvan fills an important niche; and if cost isnt a primary consideration for you, then it might be the right fit for you and your family.

My granddaughter started third grade this fall. Due to missing school and emotional stresses she was reading at about a Kindergarten level. During the past couple of years we have tried tutoring sessions, summer group classes offered by Granite School District, and nothing has helped my granddaughter. Her self-esteem was at rock bottom. She absolutely “knew” she could not read. She would have a panic attack when we tried to work on sounding out letters and blends. I remember one time she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “Grandma, help me.” I started getting my social security check in February so I decided to put the money to good use. I chose the Sylvan Center because when my children struggled with reading and math, my parents paid for them to attend the Sylvan Center. The Sylvan Center has worked with us to get Riley on track. When one method did not work for her, they worked with us to find something that would work. Riley has attended Sylvan Center for eight months now and is volunteering to read books to me. She is still catching up but she now feels she can learn and is making progress. She feels successful and is not afraid to read in front of her friends. She loves the Sylvan Center.

Ive taken my kids to Kumon and Mathnesium but I have to say that Sylvan has been the best for them, mainly because of the homework help and the excellent tutors! My kids would complain if they didnt like it but they are happy to go. We go twice a week and their grades have improved and my 10 year old, who was hiding his homework and his teachers were frankly very frustrated by his lack of progress, is now doing really well - in fact yesterday he told me he got the highest score in his class on a writing assignment and now his teacher is his favorite teacher ever. So I think if you are wondering, just give Sylvan two months and see the progress. I am happy to pay the price which I think is reasonable based on the overhead and the cost of paying really amazing tutors a living wage.

We have been very happy with our Sylvan experience and, more importantly, our kindergarten son loves going to his weekly sessions. We initially signed him up because he was below grade level and just wasnt wanting to work with his parents to get ready for school. However, after being at Sylvan for several months, we have seen serious growth and improvement. In just this short time he is now up to grade level and even beyond on a few topics. His teacher has also seen a great deal of improvement and has mentioned this to us several times. We really like all of the instructors at Sylvan. His absolute favorite teacher is Brayden (whom he has already said he wants to invite to his birthday party)! All in all, we recommend Sylan to all parents, especially those with a child who needs some extra support with their school performance.

I took my daughter in to make sure she was on track in her learning. She was so nervous and begged me not to go but within minutes she was obviously at ease and able to do her test. The tutor was WONDERFUL with her. My daughter was so excited at the end of her session to receive her prize for work well done and talked about the staff for days afterwards. It is a clean and and inviting environment. It is well run and I couldnt be happier with my experience there.

Our 9 year old was really struggling with reading and felt like the worst reader in his class. He was terrified to take tests because he thought he would fail everytime. Everyone at this Sylvan Learning Center was very friendly and so helpful. They gave him an assessment test and showed us that his reading level was higher than we thought--that boosted our sons confidence so much! Then they helped him learn to slow down while doing his work to improve accuracy. They also taught him specific 3rd grade as well as 4th grade curriculum that he needed to improve on and he has come so far in just 5 months! We are so grateful for everything Sylvan has taught our son! They gave him confidence in his academic abilities again!
