Ken is the man at the front desk. He was wonderful! He listens, understands, gives his best estimate, has a sense of humor. The work was done quickly, efficiently and accurately. Cost was more than fair. This is the best car repair place in all my life and Im 75! If you have a Subaru, go to this place or rue your choice of any other place.
We are highly HIGHLY impressed. They gave us an honest quote on major transmission issues and thought it would take weeks to get done and they got it done in a few days! The people there are extremely professional and very nice, and if we ever need work done and are in Salt Lake again, Clark’s is where it’s at.
I was worried I wouldnt be able to pay for all the updates needed to my Subaru: battery, timing belt, A/C, radiator, etc. The team at Clarks assured me theyd get my car running again at a price I could afford. They delivered. Im very grateful for their honesty, flexibility, and sympathy.
Roland and all the team at Clarks are awesome! I take my Subaru Forester here for oil changes and maintenance and have always had a great experience. Today I took my car because the plastic engine guard under the car had come loose - it was an easy fix, but it still took time from their tight schedule and they squeezed me in and then didnt even charge me. Its great to have a place you can trust with your car - Clarks is that place!
Manager Ken was always available, super helpful and very fair. I strongly recommend you visit Clark’s Auto and utilize any one of their services offered.
Roland and team were great. Their pricing was clear and competitive. While definitely not the lowest, they were transparent on parts that would need to be replaced once they got in which lead to zero surprises. They worked with me on a tight timeline and they had to move it back only once.
These guys are so excellent! In my estimation, the most important thing we have in life are relationships and how we are treated in a relationship that has to do with our vehicles is up there in importance. These guys have gone above and beyond multiple times on behalf of me and my family. I love Subarus and have had several. Clarks Auto has kept my Subis running strong for years. Recently, they have begun selling Subarus. In the past year I have purchased 2 Foresters and they are sweet rides. Certified by Clarks, these 2 vehicles are solid and they make sure of it. If you have a Subi, do yourself a favor and anchor in this relationship for all your cars needs. Love you guys!
I recently bought a car from Braden and he honored the 30 day guarantee after I had a couple issues with the car. I would recommend buying a car from this auto shop because of the honesty and follow through.
The BEST Subaru repair shop in Utah. They are fair and honest.
I had my Subaru sitting in storage for 3 years. The work they did was amazing. 1/3 the price of other quotes. It was $989.99 for everything. They could have lied about the need for a new steering pump but they where honest and said it was just a $35 belt. I will without hesitation take it back there for them to work on it. These guys know Subaru and I felt like I was apart of a family. Always deal local always deal with the Clark Auto Team!
Clarks has provided me honest, professional, and quality work for over a year now. They offer services with lower prices than the other SLC Subaru service centers and they are far better at communicating.
Amazing service. I had recurring battery problems that the dealership hadn’t resolved. Clark’s diagnosed the problem but couldn’t fix it, and charged me nothing for all of their work. The dealership finally fixed it but only after Clark’s found the problem. They are my new “go to” service provider.
Jared and Oscar were great to work with. Fast and professional at a reasonable price. I will be returning for any future work on my Subaru.
I had just bought a used 1996 Suburu and took it in to diagnose why it had stopped starting after a couple of weeks. They quickly assessed it as the alternator and had the part shipped and take care of in a few days. A week later the part gave way as defective and they took excellent car of me to rush me to the top of the list despite being exceedingly busy and replace the part. I am beyond refreshed to have such an excellent experience with them, and would recommend them to any Suburu owner.
The only place I will EVER go for work on my Subaru. My father is a mechanic back East and always asks me “are you going to your family Subaru place?” when I need work done. I am stoked that they use OEM filters for oil changes. I have gotten snow tire swaps, brakes, and my transmission serviced at Clark’s, and every time it is a positive experience with quality work done at an affordable cost. One time I had issues with my transmission, and they meticulously looked over the issues before telling me that I needed a new transmission from my dealer with my power train warranty, and even called Nate Wade to set up an appointment for me. The best service in town. Thank you Clark’s!!!
Clark’s Auto is the best mechanic I have visited for my Subaru. They repaired the broken shifter in my Outback and have fixed my tires multiple times. They are always kind to me and get the repairs done quickly, and are very fair with their pricing. They really know what they’re doing and I would recommend them to anyone!
Price is about average compared to other auto shops but these guys seem to be honest and fair and I value that more than cheap labor. If you drive a subie take it here.
My Subaru had a bad catalytic converter code, and the first place I took it to wanted around 2k to replace the whole thing. I got a second opinion here at Clarks Auto. Cory suggested we try a 35$ catalytic system cleaner to see if that cleared the code. IT DID and my car ran better immediately after as well. He showed me that he cared about helping me the most efficient way possible, unlike the first shop. A true mechanic wants to fix your car, not empty your wallet.
Look as they have new owners and are things diferentes from my last visit.
The staff here are all so courteous and really helpful! I was having a recurring issue with my car and they listened to my concerns and we figured out the problem together, ending with them teaching me how to fix the problem when necessary. I am not a car expert and there is always a fear that I will be taken advantage of and upsold unnecessary services, but I have NEVER felt that from Clarks Auto!
I have had great experiences in the past here, however, this time I called about an oil at temp light that has continued to flash on.Front desk said they would check with the tech and call me. A day later, I received a text saying they did not know the light, but they could look at it and figure it out. The reason they did not know it was a terminology issue. The term came from the dashboard and manual. I gave the page in the manual. They still were not sure. Then to contribute to the frustration, the tone was dismissive and on the edge of laughing at me. They seemed to view my concern was beneath finding an answer.Irony, I called another location and within minutes provided answers to my concern. They knew issue and solutions.I can no longer recommend this place. They do not demonstrate competence or acceptable customer service.
Took a car in for a pre-sales check, and the service was quick, friendly, and very thorough. Received a list with all potential and upcoming services/fixes and pricing. So far, great place!
I have a zillion good things to say about this place. They have saved me on multiple occasions. Rockstars.
Decided to try service outside the dealer and I was stoked to see a shop specializing in Subaru’s so close to home. Took my Outback in to have snow tires put on and get my car windows working again. The guy at the front desk was super friendly, gave me my estimate and had everything done in a day or two despite how busy they looked.Turns out my battery was bunk, so I wound up coming back shortly after and they installed a new one while I waited. Everything is running great now, price was right and I’ll definitely be coming back here for any other issues I have!
I write this from a place of frustration and exasperation with Clarks Auto. My experience highlights the fact that they are not thorough or detail oriented. When I first brought them my car they gave me a hefty quote to fix everything wrong with my 2011 Forester and I was told that doing all of these things will keep this car going for another 100,000 miles no problem. When I went to pick up the car I was told that I needed to replace my rack and pinyon assembly for power steering. They also installed a broken air filter so I went back a third time to have that fixed. After all of this I had loaded up my car to move myself and my belongings to another state and smoke started coming from the hood and we could see a puddle of oil sitting in the engine. Clarks Auto says that when you plug up a leak somewhere, it can cause a new leak somewhere else.
This is a really great shop, the guys there are honest and straight up, which is somewhat hard to find with mechanic shops. They treated me very well and worked through my issues in a very organized manner. They offer fair pricing, are very knowledgeable, and did a very through job. I HIGHLY recommend Clarks automotive, especially if you own a Subaru.
Ive been going here for 7 years for emissions on a Honda. I called to schedule this years and they say they dont do Honda. I call again and the guy says they do Honda. I then bring my other car there and they say they can do it because they dont have an adapter which it doesnt need. How do I now, because theyve done that one for 7 years too. So unprofessional and they obviously have no interest in keeping local customers who have been with them for years. Ive used them for repairs on the Honda for years too. Ill never go back.
I had the pleasure of taking my car to Clarks for the 6 years I lived in Salt Lake. I have honestly never loved a shop as much as this one! Not only are they helpful, but they always gave me honest advice and never pressured me into getting work done on my car that I didnt need. Leaving this shop was tough, their commitment to sustainability, their high quality customer service and their great mechanical work are to be commended. I have recommended them to many friends who have all shared my sentiments. Such a great shop, a gem of the Sugarhood!
I turned to Clark’s in April of 2019 when my long-time Subaru dealer couldn’t get me in for almost three weeks to check out an engine problem. Clark’s got me in and fixed the problem within three days. I have been back twice since that time for safety inspection and routine maintenance. The young men seem to like what they do, know what they are doing, are very thorough, and take pride in their work. They take the time to explain their findings and proposed repairs before they proceed. They also go the extra mile in checking fluid levels, tire pressure, lights etc. The prices are reasonable. They are knowledgeable, helpful and accommodating.Needless to say, I will return to Clark’s and recommend them to others without reservation.
Clarks Auto is by far the most courteous, straight-forward and helpful garage Ive ever taken my little Subaru to. $0 to run my emissions test, and a free courtesy check on all my lights and fluids? Amazing. They went above and beyond to help me keep in mind future repairs, tune-ups and normal issues they see with my model. I feel like I have experts on my team to help plan for the maintenance my car will need to keep it running, rather than a garage trying to charge the most that they can. This experience was much more informative and comprehensive than any Ive had with the dealership who sold me the car, and myriad other service stations in SLC. This is my spot now for sure!
We all want a trustworthy mechanic, right? Well, here it is. They also make every effort to be environmentally conscious and offer a better price than the big chains.
One of the best experiences! Went in for a safety & emissions, the mechanics were super helpful and informative! They were even able to figure out what was going on with my tire light, turns out the pressure was off. They fixed it immediately, and were able to give me a full analysis of the rest of my car, and recommend some really great options. Overall, fast and top quality experience! Also great prices!
They worked with me on a night drop off for the next day, they charged a couple hundred dollars less than everyone else I called for an estimate, and it was done first thing. They’re very nice and professional. Just good people and work and pricing. I’ll only be using them for my Subaru. And I had candy waiting for me in a treat bag. Like, not necessary, but appreciated nonetheless.
Ill try and keep this brief, but I feel the whole story is kind of important. I took my 2008 wrx into Clarks for some engine trouble, which turned out to mean I needed to rebuild the engine, and have the heads rebuilt as well. I ended up having a few other things done, which came out to over $5k in parts and labor. Got the car back after, had a couple minor issues, then the turbo went out about 1,500mi after the rebuild.Got a new turbo (from a specialist), and went well for another 500 or so miles, until the engine again went out.I took the car back to Clarks, and they said they needed time to figure out what happened. It took some time, but they found a catastrophic problem with the engine.Because I had the engine tuned by someone else, they could have just told me they werent responsible. Instead, the owner, Alan did a very honest thing. He found a way to get me an engine at almost no cost to me. That says a lot about his character, and although it took awhile to get my car back, he definitely kept his word. Also, the guys up front (Devon and Drew) are very knowledgeable and helpful. Thanks!
I took my new/used Subaru Impreza here for an inspection and had a wonderful experience. They are friendly and knowledgable, took time to explain everything and answer questions about my new vehicle, and the inspection was thorough and they got me in the same day. Love this shop and will be taking my Subaru here in the future. Thank you!!!
The only place I will take my car anymore for three reasons: Honest, Fair prices, and they can get the job done quickly. They are just super nice and accommodating. Also, as a woman, I was happy to find a mechanic shop that doesnt treat me like an idiot or like I dont know or understand anything about cars. When I have several things that need to be done on my car they are willing to let me know what I can hold off on for a bit versus what is more urgent. Nice to be able to spread the cost out a little.Anyway, I just wanted to let the world know how much I love and appreciate my great mechanics at Clarks Auto!!!!!
Communication and integrity are their cornerstones. They always give me options and never pressure me to do any work thats not required. Ive been going here for years and have not had a bad experience. Very personable staff that communicates patiently and effectively.
They did a great job on my 1996 Subaru Outback. The AC needed major repairs. They were able to offer me a great price, and even tried to source used parts to make it less expensive. They kept me informed every step of the way, and they were very pleasant to deal with.
These guys are really awesome! My first impression on why I loved the shop so much is that they are all green! They do some nice recycling work there! There are also really helpful mechanics there. I went there and saw my buddy James. And he really helped me out with my new car, and helped me recieve the knowledge that I can drive my new car with confidence! Thanks guys!=D
This place is an unexpected delight. I’ve always done all my auto repair and maintenance at dealerships. Then a couple of friends recommended Clark’s because I’m in the market for a used car and I need an independent opinion for that kind of inspection. Alan and his staff are so nice, but even more important extremely honest. The first car, he gave a clean slate but we ended up not buying it for other reasons. On the second car he inspected, he saved me several thousand dollars.by finding damage to the underbody of the car. But besides their sheer competence, (also attested to by my friends for actual car maintenance ) I’m very impressed by the integrity that’s evident here. It’s a rare thing to find anymore. I’m going to bring my Subaru and Toyota here from now on.
Was recommended but overpriced and over recommended needed work. Only in a pinch would I take my jeep here. Home mechanics are the best, if they are any good. They arent thieves but never trust a mechanic shop.
A trustworthy mechanic is priceless. You just know when you are getting duped and Clarks has never once given me that impression.A trustworthy mechanic that is also very reasonably priced is next to godliness. I have never received a more friendly bill anywhere else.Best mechanic in town, no doubt about it.
The guys who work in the front of the shop are nice enough, but the shop, as a whole, is either clueless or dishonest. Huge repair bill on my brakes to replace the pads and rotors, and then, like only 2 weeks later, the calipers went. After another big bill, fast forward less than a year, and the pads are already wearing down. I honestly wonder if they even replaced anything. Im guessing incompetent over being crooks, but who knows. Definitely dont take your car here.
I thought I would give this place a shot because it was very close to my house compared to my other mechanic. My brake pad replacement indicator went off in my car. I had them replace my brake pads and they called and told me my front rotors needed replaced. I hope they actually did and I didnt get scammed.-1 star: They completed the car a day later than promised.-1 star: They charged me an extra $100 because they had told me the wrong wheels over the phone. This wasnt brought up until I was picking up the completed work.-1 star: Their prices are already high to start with.I will be returning to my original mechanic. It would have been nice if this place was good because it was is so close!
I went to Clarks to get an alignment and I just so happened to get a flat tire on my way to visit the shop. I put Fix a Flat in so I could get to the shop. Clarks will not repair my tire, rather they said I have to buy a new one because, Fix A Flat damages the integrity of the tire. Ive used Fix a Flat before and never had a problem. Further, I just visited the Fix a Flat website and the website states this is not true. Additionally, I took my car to the place where I purchased the tires and they were able to fix this promptly. I was interested in using Clarks because they are super close to my house, a local business, and green. However, I now feel that they are trying to take advantage of me and trying to get me to buy tires when I dont need them. Sad, really.
SERIOUSLY FIVE STAR SERVICE! These guys are straightforward, reasonably priced, knowledgeable and VERY VERY helpful. Don’t waste your time going anywhere else- they will do you right!
Phenomenal service, I could not have asked for a better experience there. Drew, Devon, and everyone there truly goes above and beyond, and I cant emphasize that enough. They are extremely knowledgable, honest, and straightforward with you, and they were so kind in taking the time to answer all my questions and explain everything to me, so I could thoroughly understand what work needed to be done on my subaru and what all my options were from there. Even after deciding to let go of my subaru and look into buying a new one, they continued to go above and beyond in helping me with my options. Having just moved to SLC, my experience with them really put my mind at ease knowing I finally found a place that I can trust to take the car Ill end up buying. If you or anyone you know has a subaru, this is definitely the place to take it.
Clark’s auto has been an immense help with us in searching for a used car. They were kind enough to do not one, not two, but three free checkups on cars we brought in. On the second car, which was a 2017 Subaru Impresza, they saved us 3 to 4 thousand dollars in repair on some damage that the dealer had completely neglected to tell us about. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they have short wait times, and getting an appointment is easy. I highly recommend Clark’s Auto.
I always have a positive experience with the team at Clarks. Its evident theyre more interested in a long term relationship with their customers than winning a few extra bucks by upselling.
I love their Millcreek location, Jack is a great help, friendly and very trust worthy. I just recently went through purchasing a new car and he was so upfront they didnt let me buy an unsafe lemon. Definitely the BEST mechanic ever. I have never loved a mechanic more.
I feel very confident working with Clarks because theyre honest, kind and competent. Its also locally (as well as family) owned. Every experience here has been good. (4 times now.)
I went to Clarks for the first time yesterday, just for a simple oil change. They were quick, affordable, and did a thorough inspection of my vehicle, and recommended a few minor things for me to repair myself. Great service, and I will be coming back in the future.
The service at Clarks was very professional and courteous . I know that I will be getting the best quality as well as the best skill. I have never felt that I was getting services that I did not need and the young gentleman who helped me made sure to explain what my car needed so that I could understand exactly what my vehicle needed, why it needed it and any future needs that could be done at a latter date so as to maintain the life of my vehicle. Thank you Clarks.
Great communication and exceptional customer service. I would recommend Clark’s Auto for your Subaru needs.
Phenomenal and very trustworthy car mechanic! I was new to the city and was so impressed at how professional and personable they were while also explaining everything in depth and helping me get the most affordable option. Ive never experienced an auto company this wonderful- I highly recommend them!
Clark’s Auto and Tire has servicing my vehicles since 2009. My wife & I own a Subaru, Toyota & a Volkswagen & they all run amazing. I will continue to support Clark’s because they’re affordable, they stand behind their work, they return your vehicle on time, they fix only what needs to be repaired and they put forth a commendable effort on managing their carbon footprint. Our community needs more businesses like Clarks Auto & Tire. Consider giving them a try.
Kerwin was so very helpful and honest about my automotive needs. He didnt try and get me to buy or repair anything unnecessary. He was very thorough and I will definitely use him for all my future automotive repairs!
After some struggling to find a good Mechanic after moving to SLC, I have had nothing but amazing experiences here. First time I came in was for an oil change and my experience was pretty standard, though they were more friendly and welcoming than normal. Second time I came in was for an emergency after being sold the wrong brake pads and rotors for my car (luckily was able to get my money back here since they saved my old parts for me upon request). The wheels nearly caught on fire coming down a canyon. They took the car in, gave it a good inspection, and found a laundry list of things wrong that I thought were other issues. They explained how I thought what I saw as leaking brake fluid was actually an issue with a separate gasket and also found an issue with one control arm in the suspension... didnt try to upsell me on replacing both control arms or replacing other suspension parts that I know are old and probably on their way too. Even though it was more than I was hoping for, they gave me an honest quote and let me get back to them after deciding what to do. They laid out options of recommended work with detailed pricing when asked but didnt push at all. When I decided to go ahead with the work, they did it and came up with a couple extra costs that Devon worked into my total quote so I didnt end up paying extra than what they originally told me. Im just super impressed with the integrity and care they put into customer experience. Every mechanic should strive to be like this place. Id give em 6 stars if I could!
This is the best garage Ive been to in years. They are honest with pricing and time it will take to do the job. These guys are amazing they work on all makes and do fantastic work.
Honest and efficient. I work in the automotive industry and trust these guys with my own personal vehicle as well as my customers. Alan and Justin are great. And to top it off, most of their shops power comes from solar panels! Highly recommended.
Came to town to visit family. Dropped in for a quick oil change. Amazing customer service and super fast. Thanks guys!
Misdiagnosed my problem to try and scam me with $900 of repairs to replace my cracked radiator and old hoses among other expensive recommendations. I decided to call around and Craigs Service Center (where Ive gone in the past and had good experiences) said they would replace the radiator for much less so I decided to take my car there. They took a look and it turns out it was just the lower hose that caused the massive leak and the radiator had no cracks and was fine. I had just the hose replaced and my old vehicle is up and running like normal again with no coolant leaks which saved me hundreds in fraudulent unneeded repairs. There may have been some kind of mistake by Clarks, but it seems unlikely, and regardless, they were wrong and it nearly cost me hundreds of dollars. Future customers beware over- or mis-diagnoses and inflated prices, and consider calling other shops before agreeing to any price for a repair.
Not only has Clarks Auto been my trusted mechanic while living in Salt Lake City, Alan of Clarks Auto generously provided me with advice on navigating the used car market. I recently relocated to Gloucester, MA and posted on Facebook asking for advice on car buying. Alan, without solicitation, posted his phone number to call him. We spoke at length and I now feel so much more confident in where to begin my car search. Sustainability is a high priority for me and Clarks Auto not only has very reliable and experienced mechanics but also has a large base of knowledge about hybrid, electrical and fuel efficient cars. This is a combination that isnt commonplace and I hope I can find someone similar to this here in the Boston, MA area. Thanks again!
Devon was great to work with, him and the crew got me what I needed and the oil change was done in a timely manner. I will most definitely be coming back when in the area! I recommend anyone give these guys a visit!
Most honest professional shop Ive experienced. A/C went out. A gentleman by the name of Devon helped me out. All it was was a loose wire on the compressor. Popped it back on and I was on my way. No charge. 5 min. Thank you guys!
On an 02 Tundra had a ball joint shear < 10 mph (thank goodness). On the phone, Clarks very accomodating given that it was Presidents Day. Once dropped off by the tow truck they couldnt get it into the shop. Apparently the 1 of snow was too much to shovel and floor jacks werent an option, so Clarks decided to charge me an additional hour and half of mechanic labor ($175) for a relatively simple ball joint replacement (Ive done them before and Im no mechanic). Not sound business practice. Prior to the work being completed I provided specific alignment specs which they said they could accomodate but upon pickup they said that their Hunter Alignment printer did not work and has never worked so I have to trust that they are in spec. While nice on the phone, I cant recommend this shop given their shady practices.UPDATE: I had the alignment checked when I got summer wheels put back on and It required adjustment. Further, I specifically requested the front differential oil be checked by Clarks, given the leaking after the ball joint sheared and the related components came apart. Upon examination, It was extremely low and obviously an oversite. I will never bring my truck or any other vehicle to Clarks for anything that requires more competence than a tire rotation, and even then I will double check the torque on the lug nuts.
Seriously love this place, when you walk in you are immediately greeted and treated like an actual human being. Dropped off my car and it was done a lot faster that what was expected. Prices are super fair and Im glad I can bring my car into a mechanic shop where I dont feel like Im being cheated!!!
I left my car at Clarks to have my A/C fixed while I was on vacation. I told them to prowl around to see if anything else should be looked at since I bought my RAV4 used and thought it should be given a real once-over. They found a few things and took care of them along with the A/C; updating me while I was out of town. Everything was fixed by the time I returned from my trip. No more. No less. No surprises. I guess what I mostly want to say is that I trust the Clarks team implicitly to take care of things in a professional, honest, and friendly way. Easy explanations and no judgement of those of us who arent too well-versed when it comes to cars. Alan, Devon, and the staff are all champs. Im sticking with Clarks as long as I have my drivers license.
Wow!!!Gotta love Clarks. They were super fast and friendly. The also beat the competitors price on the repairs for my car! I highly recommend them!!!
Had an amazing experience here, they took care of me. My mechanic was Devon and he was awesome. Highly recommend!
Went in for an oil change, walked out with $800 worth or repairs related to my cooling system, brake fluid, front and rear differentials, and battery. Took an extra few days because something exploded while they were working on it. Cant be sure which of these repairs were actually necessary, but one week after getting my car back it wont even start. Obviously unrelated to the battery since I paid them $250 to put a brand new one in. This is a 4-year old Toyota that had, up until now, never had any issues. When I asked if they might offer to tow it to compensate they said I would have to pay for the tow if they deemed the issue wasnt related to the prior service.
Good service, they mainly work on Subarus so be aware that if you dont own a Subaru it may be pricey
Not a good experience for me. I feel like they over charge for parts and they provided me with questionable service. To me this place gives mechanics a bad name. This was just my experience. As they started working on fixing an oil leak, I got several calls from them asking permission to fix something else. First it was the cam and crank seals, then it was the timing belt, then it was the belt tensioners, then it was a pulley, then it was the valve cover gasket, then it was the water pump, then it was the power steering belt, then it was the spark plug boots, then it was the oil pump. After nearly $1000 and a new timing belt, I declined most of their suggestions to do the work myself at a fraction of the cost. And the car still gushes oil like the Juan Valdez. I do not recommend this place because I was left feeling ripped off and my car wasn’t working any better after it left their shop.Update: I have done the repairs myself at a fraction of the cost and zero oil leaks. Not a drop. The oil pump gasket was the problem. An oil pump gasket set will set you back 4 hours. I wonder what the shop did for the three days it was in their shop.
Cheap, local, easy, and hassle free oil change. When the service was done they said One more thing... which usually makes me cringe. I braced myself to tell them I dont need a tune up or have my transmission fluid changed. It turns out my brake light was out...and they fixed it for free. Seriously, this is why I deal with locally owned businesses as much as possible.
Definitely not the same experience as other reviews. Shop is questionable at best in regards to their inspections.
Great staff, very friendly and fast service. James was very knowledgeable and had me laughing. Thanks again!
We got in the truck to go on some Saturday errands and drove about 50 feet all tippy pulled over and discovered a flat tire. Clarks was just around the corner about another 90 feet and I thought they might be open or have some air . . . Nope. Then the owner pulled up and even though the shop was closed he fixed our tire for better than a fair price and we were on our way. We are so delighted and lucky to have a neighborhood mechanic with such excellent service and integrity so handy. I always recommend them.
For the first time, I found a mechanic who is honest and can be trusted with my VW GTI. Emerson was on time, he kept me posted with (texts) through the day, and photos of the parts. Location is also fantastic right off the freeway. I said I would even come back for my oil changes, since Jiffy Lube ruined my plug.
**IMPORTANT DISCLOSURE: After making it to California and spending a few months at the monastery and driving from San Diego to San Francisco, I checked the underside of the vehicle to find that the leak was back. So, whatever the local mechanic did must have only been a temporary, superficial fix. I cant be sure, but it does cast doubt on the idea that the people who diagnosed it originally as a bad water pump were wrong. I feel bad about leaving this negative review and if it has cost the company some business, though I would still caution people about going to a place that charges for a diagnosis when there are plenty of places that dont. Also, the price quote of $1200 is more than what I was quoted at the dealership. **For context, here is my original review...I would stay away from these guys unless youve had good experiences with them before. I was traveling out West when my car started giving me problems. There was a leak somewhere, and I heard these guys did good work. I took it in, told them I was on my way to a monastery, and asked them to take a look at it. Five hours later, they told me it was a bad water pump. I had told them I had just gotten the water pump replaced, but they insisted it was the water pump. They even charged me $30 to make that diagnosis, and then told me it was $1200 to fix. After wallowing a bit and planning my train ride to California, I reflected that the price was wildly out of proportion with what I had been quoted back when it was replaced previously. I decided to get it checked some other place. After two hours, the gentleman showed me where the leak was and fixed it for 100 dollars. I had no problems afterwards. I later went to Clarks to ask for a refund on my diagnosis fee and was told that they would talk to the boss when he got out of the hospital because he fell. Well, Im not sure if I believe that story, but I know I havent heard from them since. In fact, its 5:00, an hour before they close, and Ive been on hold now for about 30 minutes. So, I hope either that this place will wisen up or that people will start supporting more honest, local mechanics. Id also like my $30 back.
Very nice 👍
These guys are great. they always make time for me and my needs and questions. ive never felt like they try to push repairs that i dont need on me like many auto shops do. i literally recommend them to everyone i know!
Clark’s Auto is close to my office so I called to get a quote for a cluster, timing belt and water pump replacement for a Honda Accord. When I asked for a quote I was told I would need to bring the car in so they could see what’s wrong. I told the individual that I just need the cluster replaced and the timing belt and water pump are just preventative maintenance and that the car is running fine. He was still insistent that he couldn’t give me a quote for that over the phone. I told him that if he couldn’t give me a quote over the phone I would find somewhere else that could. So I will be finding someone else.
Everyone is very friendly. I feel like they are very trust worthy and reasonable. Definitely my go to!
New to SLC and without a mechanic. A friend referred me to Clarks after bad experiences with both Jiffy Lube and Pep Boys. They put in my tail lights free of charge so I could pass my safety inspection. I had been sold the wrong tail light by Pep Boys and they replaced it with one of their own; no charge!!! Definitely will go there for all future work!!
Decent place for simple stuff like tire rotations and oil change, but prices are a little high. Its great you can renew your tags here without going to the DMV. But, I wish they wouldnt always try and upsell me on stuff I may not need.
DO NOT GO FOR SAFETY INSPECTIONSMy wife took our vehicle here for safety and emissions testing. They failed both of the rear brake cylinders, the rear brake pads and an upper ball joint. They wanted $1200 to do the repairs. I opted to do the repairs myself for about $50 worth of parts and 2 hours of labor.I understand repair shops need to make money and not everyone has the ability to do repairs themselves but what got me is that when i went to do the repairs both sets up rear brake pads were less than half worn, only one cylinder was leaking (and not even that much) and they failed the ball joint i assume because of a crack in the rubber (completely irrelevent to the function of the ball joint). When i went and asked them why they had failed the ball joint they responded that i could make an appointment and come back later and they would show me what was wrong with it.I went to another mechanic who passed the vehicle with no problems.
The most awesome friendly staff. Very honest, trusting, and knowledgeable. Will refer to all my friends and family.
This is a first rate auto shop. I brought my vehicle in because it was making some strange noises - some sort of rubbing. The guys drove it, got it up on the lift, figured out what was rubbing where, and solved the problem. Even better - they did it as a courtesy - no charge. Thanks!
I took a truck I was selling to this shop cause a the buyer wanted have it checked out there. I had previously taken the truck to both my mechanic and Jerry Siener to have them go through it before I listed it to make sure nothing was wrong. Checked out perfectly. These clowns came up with a list of $700 worth of repairs. I took my truck back in to my mechanic to have the issues looked at and he had no idea why they listed what they did.
I took my car in for safety and emissions they were super fast and the tech let me know what to look out for!! Super super pleased with this shop would highly recommend!
Honest mechanics and the price thats fair. Call ahead for an appointment and usually get you in and out in a day for typical maintenance. Also safety inspection and smog certificates. I wont go anywhere else.
I live out in Sandy and work from 9-5. I still find a way of taking my Mazda to Clarks, because I know for a fact they wont swindle me. They never talk down to me because Im a woman, and they give me fair prices. Other stores have told me things that are supposedly wrong with my car, and Ill take it to Clarks and usually they tell me whats actually wrong, and its normally fixed at a fraction of the cost. Thanks for being honest and fair!
Clarks Auto had always been super helpful when it come to upkeep on my car.Great place to get a Subaru looked at.
Expensive, I paid 130 for a mechanic in Idaho to fix the same problem. Clarke charged me 500. I would expect it to be more expensive here, but 500 seems a bit steep. I needed it fixed now, so I bit the bullet. I learned my lesson and will do research on a more reasonable mechanic. They are out there, you just need to find them, or I just need take my car to Idaho to get it fixed.
This shop is awesome and had great service. And the techs know what there doing!
We take our Subaru Tribeca here every year to get our maintenance up to date. Wonderful customer service and very knowledgeable staff!
The worst price gouging I have ever seen. There are mechanics in the valley that can work on Subarus better than these guys for an honest price.
Amazing is the word to describe this place. Definitely going back!
I love the way this shop does business. It is the first shop that I have ever visited that I do not feel swindled after I leave. I have saved money as compared with another shop every time I go.
They did a really good job on my car! Had a great experience here!
