Their adoption process was pretty easy and quick. We got to spend a little time with the dog that we adopted before adopting. We have had our girl for 3 years now and just love her.
My experience with the people working there was not too great, they kept arguing with me on things that weren’t appropriate with the animal i had to surrender. I had advised them i was allergic and she was aggressive towards other animals i owned, so i told them i felt horrible i had to do this but it was for my own good and her own good as well. They basically told me they didn’t understand why i was doing this and i could have prevented all of this because my reasons were not good reasons, in their words. The main owner really enjoyed arguing with me while i was trying to talk to her about how my cat acts.
I am shocked that I didnt rate this awesome shelter before this. We adopted our dog, Sassy, 2.5 years ago from them. Highly recommend!! They are so very dedicated to all of their animals. When we were looking for a dog, they were the most knowledgeable about each dog that was in their care. I really appreciated that when we did adopt a dog from them, that they took the time to talk to me about what to expect with my particular new dog. They even gave us a free bag of dog food to help with the transition to whatever brand of dog food we had at home.
Staff is absolutely helpful and nice, they gave me a great guidance when I adopted this cutie. Even after his adoption, I called them again with some questions, and they were very helpful :)We are going to be forever thankful to Second Chance for Homeless Pets for allowing us to meet this little guy. Utah is part of our family and he has brought so much love and joy to our lives.I highly recommend this place if you are considering to rescue a pet, you wont regret it!
Awesome rescue!! Have met a few of their staff/volunteers and they seemed knowledgeable and were helpful. Facilities are well kept and clean and they really seem to care about the animals they have for adoption! Will be getting my next family member from them. 😃🐕❤️
How could you give these angels anything less than 5 stars? The vaccine clinic was so smooth and easy. Second Chance is amazing and Ill work with them every chance I get.
Rhonda and team go above and beyond every single time. I had the opportunity to volunteer several years ago, participate in their annual fundraiser, and of course clean up and take care of some of the wonderful animals. I would not hesitate to trust your time, resources, and heart to one of her animals when reopening post pandemic occurs. Thanks SC
SCFHP is where I adopted my rescue pup 8 years ago. To this day, I am happy knowing that I can walk in and buy toys, a new bed, leashes, etc and my money is going towards the best - an amazing rescue center that does everything they can for the animals they save! Not only are the volunteers kind, and caring, to the animals but they are kind and caring to the people who come in to find a new family member. ❤
I have only the greatest things to say about this shelter. My husband and I adopted a dog from them in January. His name at the shelter was Ken, but we named him Mac. With how many dogs you have you probably dont remember him, but he had SO much energy when we met him and decided to adopt him knowing he would be a handful and difficult. As soon as we adopted him its almost like he knew we were his people and always would be. He ended up being the easiest dog in the world to train. He was potty trained within a week, crate trained super easily, and was trained off leash the first 24 hours. He now hikes peaks with us, backpacks and camps with us, mountain bikes with us, etc. He has traveled with us to Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, Canada, all over Utah. Hes our perfect dog. For all the energy he has as soon as hes around children he becomes the calmest dog youve ever met. I am eternally grateful for Second Chance for Homeless Pets for saving our Mac. Im hoping to find some time to volunteer here to repay them for what theyve done for us. They take care of everything for you; neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, etc.
Great place to meet your new dog/cat or volunteer! You can tell the people there really care about the animals.
Really excited to get my dogs their shots this weekend. Thank you guys for offering it so cheap!
We came just to look and found a puppy that was everything I wanted...next day I came back to get him haha :) The woman who helped me, who is also the owner I believe, was so amazing. We came kind of late, 45 mins before they closed, and she was patient and did not make us feel rushed. I definitely recommend coming here for your next furry friend!!
Went there because the humane society kept running out of animals for black friday 2018 and it was the best decision Ive ever made. Adopted the sweetest boy in the world (Rugar). He came with all his shots, he was chipped and he has been the best! They are a great place to find an animal to give a forever home to. Please go check them out! :)
Great costumer service!
Despite being a small shelter, Second Chance truly does their best to find forever homes for their animals. I adopted a three-legged cat over two years ago and am so thankful for an organization that cares about each animals unique needs. I was a first-time cat owner and the staff member kindly answered my questions and lent me some essentials I was missing when I first brought Daisy (now Eden) home. Second Chance is run by knowledgeable volunteers and has a storefront with new, inexpensive pet supplies. They also offer low-cost vaccinations twice a year. Even if you arent immediately ready to adopt a furry friend, please consider donating your time or funds to support their work in fighting the homeless pet epidemic!
Beautiful babies and I love how they got back to me pretty quick about one that I wanted to. I really appreciate that usually takes a while for other places to get back to you but they were pretty quick
I have adpoted my two dogs from this place and have always had a great experience! Best rescue in SLC!
Willie..,I sure Love Shopping not just because.of all the variety of stuff I
Life is with a pup.
2nd Covid shot
Ok folks, ANY shelter that is trying to do the right thing by saving an animals life gets 5 stars in my opinion! Yes, I have stopped by and there can always be improvements in any business but you must be aware that they operate off of donations and volunteers and every day could be a different experience for someone stopping by. A volunteer might not have shown up and MOMENTARILY upset the flow of things. This shelter has been in operation for many, many years saving animals lives and preparing them for their forever homes. The owner has experienced great personal family loss yet she continues to carry on to press forward helping our furry friends. If you want to help then either donate, volunteer or keep your negative comments to yourself as they could stop the the possible adoption.
Rhonda and her staff are excellent!!
Thank you for what you do. We have been in and out for the last 3 days. My 15yr old who is suffering from severe depression connected with Skipper a German Shepard mix. Today we adopted him and brought him home for a surprise Christmas gift for my son. Going to get him training and have him be an emotional support animal for him. Thank you all for giving these beautiful fur babies a new life.
Got my beautiful dog here! I am so lucky!
We got our little angel🐶 there, the people working is super nice, if you can, please adopt a pet 💞
I found this shelter to be dirty, depressing and some of the animals seemed to be distressed in their (stinky, dank and dark) kennels. It was understaffed with only two people working when we arrived. Because it had a high rating, I brought my six-year-old son — as we are looking to adopt a dog — and he just started crying. He suggested I call the police to shut them down. It was a shocker compared to our wonderful experience visiting the Humane Society, which was so clean, with many helpful, caring and knowledgeable staff members.
I love this place! They work so very hard to save precious lives & then find them great forever homes. Theyre always in need of donations, fosters & volunteers. Please help them if youre able & be kind to all animals everywhere. Thank you.
Great people who really care.
The girl helping us was so kind! Took the time to let us play with our new dog, as well as took her into the cat area to make sure the dog would get along with my cats at home. The process was so easy. We are in love with our new dog. They spayed her and took her stitches out for free.❤️❤️
We visited the shelter and front he outside doesn’t look like an animal shelter but it is, so pay attention to the signs. Volunteers there are so friendly and they have everything you need to have your doggie soon. They are very formal and just really want to help those puppies and cats. Definitely go here if you want to adopt.
My husband and I went into Second Chance to look at the dogs and we had the best experience! The owner was so friendly and helpful, asking us questions to get to know us better and help us find what we were looking for. We are so excited to go back and adopt our pup!
I have mixed feelings about this place. When we went, we had already been to 6 other shelters all over the area and were about to give up hope on finding a dog who responded well to us and suited our living situation, but they did have 1 small breed dog ready for adoption when we went, and he stole our hearts.Pros: Unlike every other shelter in the state, people dont come here to take their kiddos to test drive dogs for an hour, so it isnt crowded with people not actually interested in adopting. Because of this lack of crowding, theres plenty of space in the dog runs in the back to get to know a potential family member and allow them to be brave and worry-free when interacting with you.Cons: The place is organized chaos. Im surprised they had so many large dogs on hand when not one of the staff members looked like they could lift more than 40 lbs, there wasnt a person below 55 in sight besides the other couple there picking up their own new pet. Entering the warehouse to meet the dogs is an absolute assault on the senses, with nothing but wire kennels separating each dog from the others and the walkways between, the barks echo and the noise is horrendous. The chihuahua mix we adopted was scared to death in his kennel, curled up and trying not to be noticed by the larger dogs on every side. He was underfed, over-anxious, and poorly groomed. If he hadnt changed demeanor entirely when we took him out into the dog run and let him know we were there to play, I would have thought he was very ill. They did neuter him and chip him, which was part of the adoption fee, but they couldnt tell us pretty much anything about his background besides that they were pretty sure hes a chihuahua. Also, interactions with their staff at the local Petsmart when I saw they brought animals their to encourage adoptions later on, the handlers seemed very unhappy to be there, and discouraged people from casually meeting the animals, which I think very much hurt their chances of finding a home.My mixed review is mainly because I ADORE puppy, its been almost a year since we adopted him and hes the greatest. Now that Ive read all I had to say, its actually a pretty poorly run shelter and business, and it breaks my heart to know that this might keep great animals from finding homes.
Everything is done in love and the focus is 110% about finding the pets a good home. All pets are rescues and are given the best possible care that Second Chance for Homeless Pets can provide. The volunteers are so passionate about what they do and the animals can tell the difference. Everyone I ever talk to is referred to Second Chance for their new furry family members.
So sweet ! How can you not love them all!
Update: adoption process was quick and easy! They let us play with the one we were interested in. So grateful to know they try their best to save all dogs. Lola is now 3 years old. I got her when she was 4 months and she’s the best pup ever. Thank you!
Second Chance for Homeless Pets is far beyond the best place to adopt a fur baby! The entire team cares SO much about each animal they save.My husband and I ended up adopting a border collie/dachshund/terrier mix that we named Olive, back in April 2017 and we couldnt be happier with the way shes grown! She was a very healthy and happy little pup. A total champ with potty and kennel training. And they even had her spayed, microchipped and all up to date on vaccinations! Now, shes still so tiny, very energetic and full of mischief (as most pups are ;). Olive lights up our days and brings so much happiness to everyone she gets the chance to interact with and its all thanks to Rhonda, Helen and the amazing volunteers for caring enough to save her in the first place. Thank you all so so much!
We adopted a wonderful 3 year old Australian Shepherd from Second Chance over the weekend. This is the 2nd dog we have adopted from this place and I cant say enough wonderful things about this place. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a new forever friend. All of the volunteers that work here do this out of the kindness of their hearts. I love this place and what their mission statement is when it comes to rescuing animals.
Very friendly staff, and helped us figure out what kind of we wanted. Ended up sending us to the Pet Smart to actually adopt our cat, as they are partnered with Second Chance.
Great place for shopping
I adopted my dog from here 5 years ago. She is doing great and a member of the family. They also offer discounts on shots for dogs and cats twice a year. Live this rescue.
Very mom and pop feel. Cluttered but not bad. Animals all seem very well taken care of and happy. Staff is very friendly and passionate about their job.
I am posting as another man did, not from having visited, but from reading the reviews. Also I did just call them, to get some information, & they were very friendly, but sounded busy!I hold the deepest respect for anyone that reaches out to help unfortunate animals in this world. I admire the fact that these folks promptly & politely reply to the negative comments received. It sounds like they can use more physical help & more donations. While I cannot volunteer my time, I will certainly be donating whenever possible. Thank you for what you do!!
Having lots of fun
I have adopted two dogs through Second Chance. They are wonderful.I also use them for kenneling, my dogs love being there.I can trust my dog will be loved and well cared for while he stays.
My family and I went in right after loosing our other pup to cancer. The lady who helped us was extremely helpful and patient. She let us take our time with the dogs and we finally found the right one for our family.
Friendly staff who were knowledgeable and great with our dog. Facility was clean with good parking.
Love this place!! Rhonda cares so much about these animals and will make sure they go to good homes. She has the cutest puppies and kitties!
Adopted to cats from these people. Knowledgeable and friendly. They also have a store to buy things at a great discount.
They need more help. They try to help so many animals and do not have enough help. The gal who is mainly in charge is very quick to argue. The mom is there to help and is super sweet but the main gal is totally disrespectful and was fighting with her mom in front of customers. Totally unprofessional.
Great place....hard having a job like this. Great job
Very cute and nice animals and you can pet them!
Ive never been to this facility or adopted from this organization but how can you be mad at people who are doing their best to save animals? I understand that you didnt receive the customer service you wanted but geez, have you tried pulling dogs from the shelter, transporting them to their new temporary home, fully vetting them, and fostering them while trying to find them new forever homes? That stuff isnt free. And these volunteers still have full time jobs so that they can feed their family and I am willing to bet they have given countless dollars to their cause. Give them a break. And as they suggest, volunteer your time. A lot of us think just adopting an animal from a shelter is enough, that we are making a difference, and of course we are, but there are many other ways that we can help. Volunteering our time, helping with transport and vet visits, and being kind to those who go above and beyond to save these critters while we all turn a blind eye because its easier not to think about.
Second Chance saves animals from many local shelters across the state, including the one I volunteer for. I am very selective which rescues I send our dogs and cats to. Through years of experience working with Second Chance I am confident that they provide excellent care for the animals and also screen applicants carefully to ensure they are going to a safe, loving home where they will be cherished family members.
Clean and the workers clearly care well for the animals and like their jobs!
Pets are amazing, show some love
Was treated very unfairly and the lady helping was very rude. It smelled awful, was in complete disarray, and an elderly lady was running just about everything while 3 other people sat around taking about how they should get ready to leave. There was a young girl waiting to help, but no one showed her what to do till the elderly lady asked someone to help us. Totally ridiculous. I wanted to adopt, but ended up finding a very sweet malamute that got along with us. Wouldnt suggest this place to anyone.
Great service! We love our new sweet puppy! Thank you!
We adopted our dog, Mitzie, at Second Chance. She had been at a county shelter and reached her time limit there. Second Chance took her and we got to adopt her. Thank you, Second Chance for Homeless Pets! Everyone we worked with was absolutely fantastic.
I love it but dont becuz i hate seeing animals down and out.
Wonderful caring people. Awesome Animals.
Excellent place so great with our dogs and our pit was deeply loved
Great place to find a new family member, they truly care about where the dogs and cats will be placed.
My husband and I stopped by to look at the dogs and the lady who helped us took us to the back and it smelled so bad!!! I couldnt believe it!! Also the heater had broke over night so all of the dogs and puppies had been freezing all night long! The lady also was very opinionated about everything, she even told us how we werent doing a good job on training our dog that we have had for a year. We didnt even ask her anything we could be doing with him. I understand pexpletive have their own ways but when we dont ask dont tell. She also brought out dogs that had just been brought in the day before and they were so mean. I would expect them to wait a few days for them to warm up to theireceive new home before bringing them out to meet people. I was also saddened that they had no grass for the dogs to do their business but gravel. I will not go to their facility again to adopt a dog. We did have a good experience when we adopted from them at petco.
Fantastic place to get your new furry family member!
