My son goes online for a few month. I can see that his score is improving and he enjoys math much more than before. Now we dont need to drive and pick him up, its so easy online!

The Salisbury Tutoring Academy is a positive, warm, and inviting place. When I was in their waiting area, I experienced parents who were pleased. There was even an announcement to all parents. One of the Academys students had just received a large scholarship. In the waiting area, he spoke to parents and attributed his success to his study habits that he had learned from the Academy.

My son was diagnosed with a reading disability. We discovered the Salisbury Tutoring Academy and enrolled him. Within 4 months he gained four years in his reading. Now he is in the gifted program and flourishing. He is no longer reading disabled. We also enrolled our other child. 5 Stars to this school.

A great learning program that is customized for every child. Each child gets the correct tutoring needed and some can require long term.

This is my opinion based on the initial 2 hour meeting. Due to our experience, we chose to not continue or sign the 2-year, 5-figure contract (no outs or refunds) presented to us.Pros-Cares about success-Reasonably priced-Quick response time-Parents and students in the lobby seemed happy-Given the short time spent with our student and the information given, she made a fairly accurate assessment of his issuesNeutral-BA in Education: Health & Sports Sci (Wake Forest)-MA in Ed: Curriculum & Instruction (Univ of Phoenix, online, for-profit college)-Discussed nutrition, diet, over-medication, “removing toxins” and treating medical conditions through organic foods-3 books available online. At least 2 are self-published (Xlibris). Unsure about: “Body Wisdom: Natural Health in You.”-25-30% of the initial meeting is discussing herself: Some are big things(girls soccer at WFU & small business award), some smaller (CrossFit & U of Phoenix ads in “The New Yorker”). It was excessive, but assuming everything is true, she is a driven woman who has accomplished much and deserves kudos.-$400 to walk in the door for the “free consultation” (from the website), no refunds. We knew this up front and understand why, but if you are unsure of anything, it is an expensive lesson learned.Cons-VERY high pressure. I have bought cars with less pressure. However, buying new cars, I can test drive it and have lemon laws giving me some protection if it fails.-Connoted our desire for contract clarification with not being “in it to win it.” It felt like emotional manipulation; that if we didn’t make this poor financial decision, we didn’t want success.-Stated she has a 100% success rate, but said in the video that if it isn’t working for her, she asks the client to leave. How that affects the contract you signed, I don’t know, because that was when she abruptly cut me off and ended the meeting.-Asking things like “what happens if ___ occurs” were met with responses that indicated we were “planning to fail.” In a learning environment, discouraging questions about a students education and future seems disingenuous. Answered such questions with non-answers and “in it to win it” or “Ive never failed; its never happened.”-I hope that this was ill-advised hyperbole, but telling the mom that the only power she had as a mother was in setting grade requirements and expectations during a conversation about goals, was unacceptable.-The videos were out of date at the time we visited (e.g credit cards are not accepted). A bigger deal to us was that the videos indicated to us that the program was set up in 4.5 month sessions, paid individually, extending as long as needed. Again, this is not the case. You must sign a contract for the full length of time she forecasts (determined from one meeting). She said we were the only people to ever question this.-At the end, when I said that I didnt like the high-pressure sales tactics and refusing multiple times to answer “financially, what happens if this doesnt work out?”, she became quite hostile, saying “thats fine,” “the meeting is over,” and cut me off mid-sentence. Yes, the meeting ran long, but theres a way to handle that and this isnt it.-At no point did any of us raise our voice or become uncivil; however as her frustration grew, her voice was loud enough that our son heard her from the testing room. What she said was the first thing he brought up. (FYI, we asked for his input before offering any of our own. Personal differences aside, if he felt positive, we can overlook some things.)Do I think that our student could be helped by them? Probably. But the nature of the onboarding process was distasteful and raised several red flags. YMMV. I was surprised, disappointed, and embarrassed that I had brought other people to sit through that. However, we hold no animosity towards Mrs. Hair and wish her and her clients well in the future. It may be the program for you. It was not the program for us.
