My car died and was towed to Kniesel’s off Bicentennial (Sacramento). I knew it wasn’t the battery because it was recently replaced along with my starter. They insisted it was my battery. The battery was replaced and was the only thing they could diagnose. The mechanic that worked on my car failed to replace the metal bar that goes over to battery to keep it secured and left it under my hood; so, when he/she closed it, it caused dents and damage to my hood and driver side above my tire. THEN, my car still doesn’t start correctly; so as I predicted it wasn’t the battery that was the issue.I brought my car to the dealership as soon as I could and that’s when the mechanics showed me how the metal bar was left carelessly under my hood and caused the damage to my car also diagnosing there was a problem that wasn’t the battery. So not only did I waste $289 for a battery I could’ve replaced myself but they also damaged my car. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Brake line went out on my truck cause the brake line got a hole in it from after market air bags being installed. I worked with Joe and he did a great job of trying a figure out the problem. He research different ways to extend the line to go around the air bags so it could be mounted. When that didn’t work he and his technician figured out a place to place the line and included a heat wrap to prevent it from getting a hole. He continually contacted me about the process and finished the job in a timely manner. Overall it was a seamless process.

I had a very good experience with this business! The staff is knowledgeable, courteous and accommodating. I went in for an issue with my A/C unit and they were able to explain what was causing the problem and how to fix it. All my questions were answered without hesitation or judgment. I will return if I have another issue or need a regular oil change. Excellent customer service!

Paid about 2.9k to pass smog, but smog was still not passing. I applied for BAR Repair Assistance, i took it in again, and all of a sudden it passed with the check engine still on.They said for another 1.8k they MIGHT be able to fix check engine, and its not covered by BAR, because it had passed smog already.If you paying that much for their service and technicians, they better diagnose the problem properly. I think its a little shady how things happened, and even though it did pass smog i wouldnt go back. Maybe its just my junk/messed up truck, but beyond all that, its still so over priced.. they charge me 250$ to change 5 spark plugs.You get what you pay for, expect here.

Kniesel’s is wonderful...! Joe and Robert were so helpful and professional. They were able to keep my car extra days, saving my butt and we arranged for a safe afterhours pickup. They found an extra issue (aka critter!) in my car and took care of it, I’m so relieved I didnt have to deal with it. I appreciated the text from the inspection, and the email quote so i could really look into what I wanted to take care of immediately or wait on. No pressure to do it all then, i definitely felt in control which can be hard with car services. Would come back and I’m not even a local!

A friend recommended Kniesels to me for their honest, straightforward, customer friendly service at a reasonable price. I came for my second oil change today and their excellent service is just as I remember last time. Everything was done in a timely manner, and although they had other things they found, they were not pushy about doing it then and there. They even vacuumed my car before returning it! (I washed my car but didnt have the time to vacuum before my appointment, like I usually do. So, that was a nice surprise service!) I like that you get a digital report of the services done, which you can access at any time. Overall, an excellent place to bring your car for service! Definitely recommend it!

I took it in for a smog and it passed mechanically ...visual inspection failed for some hoses appearing cracked??? It passed mechanically... to me a friendly helpful company would say “I will have to fail this smog unless you change out these hoses prior to test. Especially since we DO NOT do free retest.So I paid for a smog that failed due to appearance??I do want to add that they are VERY courteous and thorough with what needs repaired.

I brought my nissan in because its was over heating so i got a diagnosis ran on it. I was hold it have two leaks. One at radiator and another they couldnt see. I was hold the leak in radiator would occur when car ran hot so i did that and nothing happened. The other leak they couldnt tell me where its was which was causing my car to over heat. So all in all I wasted 140 dollars just for them to tell me what I already knew that the leak was at or near my water pump. THEY DID NOTHING I NEED MY MONEY BACK ILL BE GOING BACK TO GET THAT.

Kniesels has been my go-to mechanic for about 4 years, and has always made me feel like my cars in good hands. Everything about the place is highly professional: large clean waiting area; coupons; friendly, helpful personnel. Theyre really good at communicating whats needed, whats recommended, and what can wait, and they sometimes find potentially expensive problems that are easily fixed at low cost or free. They have freebies like local shuttle service, a car wash coupon, 12 months of roadside assistance reimbursement and a 3-year warranty on work, and a detailed inspection report on recommended service, including items that are expected due to age or mileage. I just wish my 17-year-old car had fewer problems.

This place is the best! They really do go above and beyond to help you out with your car. My husbands car had died nearby and their shop was already closed but Robert saw me stranded. I got the car towed to their shop. He didnt have to help me out since they were already closed but he did anyways. They got it fixed the next day and I had no issues. They even washed it for me. I highly recommend this shop. All auto shops claim they can fix your car but how many can actually fix your car and give you great customer service? Kniesels is the place to go.

Service was very good and with an appointment My Range Rover was done, cleaned, and got a car wash. there was no pushy sales of things that were noticed in the free Inspection. I will be taking my Range Rover back for more work in the future. thanks for a Job well Done....Alex Briones

Just got my 1990 Nissan pick up back. My brake lights were staying on when the car was shut off. The service I got was efficient and professional. It turned out to be several problems that needed to be fixed.I was very happy with the service and the repairs. Joe was especially helpful!

I am very pleased with the service I have received at Kniesels. Been going there for several years for a smog check or oil change. No repairs yet. I really appreciate that they explain the findings of the multi-point inspection and let me know of potential problems. When Im ready for a major repair, Kniesels is where I will go.

Response to response: 3 months later, never did receive the call like the response promised. No surprise.Customer service was rude and dismissive, especially by the blonde lady on the counter. Walked in, didn’t receive a greeting or acknowledgement of any kind. I asked for a quote on a part replacement, and she said she’d call back later. This was in an empty store, with no other customers.Overall, just didn’t seem like they needed the business. I never did get that call back for the part replacement quote.

I enjoyed a wonderful experience at the Kniesels Auto Service Centers located on Bicentennial Drive. Our van required a smog test for renewal, and we chose Kniesels for its reputation and convenient location to our home. I was impressed by the quick service and professionalism. Even though I didnt have to sit for long, their waiting room was a delight; clean, open, and comfortable. Although my children are older, I would recommend this location to customers with small children. There is plenty of space for children to set up and play while the family waits. The waiting room also comes with a coffee service, television, and beautiful fish tank. I also appreciated the AAA discount on my service. Its always a pleasure to find a business you feel has met your needs and then some. I look forward to returning for future vehicle services.

Replaced my front brakes last week. And made some recommendations for the future. Would not hesitate recommending them!

I own a 1996 Eddie Bauer F150 short-bed pickup, which is in very good condition with only 71,000 miles on it. The A/C had stopped working and I decided to give Kniesels Auto Service Center in Sacramento a try. The shop itself was originally built as a AAA garage and I had my truck repaired there when AAA ran the shop. They had built a first class repair facility and when I checked out Kniesels current operation I noted that they were operating their garage every bit as professionally as AAA had. As they were diagnosing the A/C problem they noted a number of things on my truck that were in need. Hoses that were tired (probably original), worn shocks and a number of other things that really did need attention and I had simply not taken care of. I drive the truck very little and it has never given me any problems, consequently I had let things go that should have been taken care of. I asked them to look the truck over thoroughly and give me a list, which they did promptly and then contacted me. There were a number of items in need and so I gave them the go-ahead. Within a few days they phoned me that they had completed all of the work, but they added that when they test drove the truck it was pulling to one side and they were attempting to find what the cause was. The next call I received was unexpected and unfortunate. They had rotated the tires, which apparently had led to the cause of the truck pulling. They opted to return the tires to their original positions which they said eliminated the pulling. This was good news, but there was bad news as well. While their technician was doing his final test drive the left front wheel came loose from the brake rotor and the truck landed on top of the wheel. They had to tow the truck back to the shop. They called and explained the situation and told me they would take care of the damage at no cost to me and asked if I wanted to come and inspect the truck. When I looked the damage over I was grateful that first no one was hurt (the technician was doing a slow u-turn in a parking lot when the lug nuts came loose and the wheel came off), and while there was some obvious damage to the running board and the left front fender, there were some other things that I had concerns about, such as the tie-rod end, the brake rotor, the wheel itself, etc. Their service representative listened to me and made careful notes of my concerns and assured me that Kniesels would see to it that my truck would be completely repaired and returned to me in a condition that would satisfy me. Being a 1996 model I knew that it would take some time, so I asked them to not rush the work, but rather take the time to do it correctly. The representative said thats what they would do. It did take time (for instance, they had to go through three different running boards to find the correct one), and all in all my truck was out of service for about one month, but Kniesels replaced everything that we had discussed and sent the truck to an excellent body shop to finish the repair. I cannot say enough good things about how everyone I worked with at Kniesels went about not just doing first rate work on the things I brought the truck in for, but also for correcting the damage that occurred after the original repair work was done. My truck looks excellent once again, and it hasnt driven as well as it does now for many years. Thank you to everyone at Kniesels for running a professional repair facility and stepping up and doing the right thing when the unfortunate accident took place. I highly recommend Kniesels Auto Service and I will being working with them in the future.

Jason has been wonderful, we went in to get the oil changed on our Sprinter Van and the guys saw the check engine light on and took a look. We are getting the van back today with new breaks, glow plugs, and a bunch of other stuff. If we would have gone to the dealership, we would have paid five times what Kniesels is charging us. Really great service! Dropped me off, picked me up, and even paid for an uber when they couldnt make it. I got an inspection, new brakes, and a bunch of maintenance items at a fair price and pretty quickly. Also the waiting area is comfy and smells nice.

Kniesels continues to be the best place in Sacramento for auto repair. Their customer service is outstanding and they are always pleasant to deal with. They make fixing your car much less of a miserable experience. Their diagnostic technicians figured out what was wrong with my Jeep after the dealership failed to do so after 3 visits and thousands of dollars. I will never take my cars anywhere else.

I had a nail in my tire and needed it to be patched up quickly on a Saturday morning. I called right at 8am, when the shop opened, and Matt answered my call and was both helpful and informative. He took my information down while on the phone and greeted me when I arrived. I was told that the tire would be finished within an hour and it was! I could not be happier with my service. They even reviewed my car and let me know what maintenance I might consider given my cars mileage; however, Matt was not at all pushy, he simply gave me the information and let me decide what to do with it. I not only recommend this place but I myself will absolutely be coming back to Kniesels shop in the future.

Top rate service as always. Set up appointment in advance to have air filters changed, parts were there and ready to install when I arrived. In and out quickly, these guys are just the best.

Last Spring, I was concerned that my brakes were making noises and not functioning properly. As the Mom of a 3 year old, safety is #1 important and so is customer service. Kniesels was incredible in all areas. First, I got an appointment easily, second I was able to be dropped off and picked up so I did not have to wait with my 3 year old nor worry about car seat issues using a rental car. Also, as it turned out, my brakes were fine and did not need to be replaced. Other car services may have done the work any way even though it was not needed. I appreciated their honesty and they even washed my car afterwards. I would highly recommend Kniesels and plan to go soon for my oil change and another brake check. Thanks Kniesels!

I wanted to say thank you to both Rick at the Sacramento location and Dane at the Citrus Heights location. Personally I had quite a bit of work I needed done with my car and Rick was wonderful in helping me get it all resolved. My Mom was in town for Thanksgiving last week and I received a frantic call from her while I was at work telling me her car would not move and she was stranded in a parking lot across town from where I was. I had referred her to Kniesels and since she was closer to the Citrus Heights location they had a tow truck sent out to her location and got her up and running again in a few hours. So, thank you Kneisels for the honest work you do.

Was looking for someone to work on my home built sprinter camper van (my pride and joy) when it was having an issue with the harmonic balancer. Matt arranged for a tow, and gave me several updates on what was wrong, needed to be fixed, and things I could probably handle myself, all before even meeting me in person. It was obvious that the shop does quality work, and cares about the parts they use. I would highly recommend them for anyone looking for diesel repair work!

Its never a good time for auto repairs, but if you need them this is the place to go. Jason, Matt and Shaun are personable, friendly and understanding. Pricewise a better deal than the dealer in most cases.

Dropped my car off last Saturday. I gave the service writer a detailed description of two problems, raw fuel odor and starting issue in Park. The guy evidently just wrote hard start on the service order so the mechanics did not know what the problem actually was. I called for an update Tuesday and reexplained the problem to a different service writer. That sounds like a switch. Well take a look. Its now Friday 4:30 p.m. and no word on my car and no one is answering the phone....Ive been satisfied with previous service here. This week, not so much.

Writing this review as I wait going on 4+ hours for an oil change from Kniesels. IF YOU LIVE AT PHOENIX APARTMENTS PLEASE READ. I went in to get an oil change a few weeks ago that I had an APPOINTMENT set at 12 for. I asked how long they would take because I had work at 4. Long story short I had to call them to ask how much longer because it was now 3:00 and no word back from them. He says my car is JUST NOW about to get worked on which was again, just an oil change. I wound up having them not doing any work on it and taking it to work as if I had never dropped it off. FAST FORWARD to today (10/26) I go back in, find myself talking to the SAME employee who remembers me and what happened last time because he told me. I dropped my car off at 10AM, it is now 2:38PM, and this gentleman quoted me about 1 to 2 hours. I called them 30 minutes ago (2:11) to ask if it was ready, a guy whose name I wont call out said hed call me back. Customer service is everything to me, I gave them 2 chances to show me that the first instance was a fluke; it was not. If they are busy I understand, but to blatantly lie to my face knowing its going to take longer, or not even communicate with me at all about my car status is very disappointing. If you stay at the phoenix apartments right by Kniesels (100 Bicentennial Cir), I advise you to heed my words and pay attention to what people are saying. Kniesels has lost my business, I will not make the same mistake 3 times. It is 2:47PM and I just received an email and text (no phone call), saying my car is ready; took almost 5 hours for an oil change...

They dont talk on the phone they put you on hold right away and I sat there for a while all I needed was a price check on a fuel sensor not that big of a problem right??? Apparently it was for them. The smallest situation like this will make it to where I will never go there..Presentation is the key to success.

I was charged $440 bucks for changing an actuator.Not sure if they really did it.You never get a call back.You must call and ask wth happened to my car.Parts were not ready so I had to live without a car for 2days.Nobody listens to you .They don’t give a damn if your concerns are resolved.Just run away

I found Kniesels Bicentennial Circle location while looking for a STAR smog test station. I called around for quotes and their quote was $62 including the certificate fee sent to the state - lower than other quotes by about $8. I made an appointment and took my vehicle over to their shop. While waiting in their beautiful waiting room, my four year old played in the tidy, clean childrens play area, and we both enjoyed an oatmeal from the snack bar, served piping hot in a ceramic, not plastic container. It was a wonderful experience, and Kneisels has a new customer! By the way, they also gave me a New Customer discount of $10, and my total out the door cost for the SMOG inspection was $52.50. This place has cost me more time and money than its worth. They messed up one of my oil chages, which created a leak so I had to bring it back.Another trip, I got an alignment that didnt feel at all different. I have my doubts that they did an alignment, or that their equipment works. My wheel was still just as off center as it was before. So I took it back for them to do another alignment. They did it again, and my alignment still hasnt changed. I immediately told one of the employees that it was still off. He test drove it 300 feet and told me he didnt feel anything. That surprised me because it was obvious. The turn signal would click off while I was driving straight, it was that bad.Later I took my car to get an alignment elsewhere. The other shop was able to correct it on their first try.The most recent issue is that they upsold me more expensive wipers, which ended up working worse than my old pair of wipers. The upsold me by saying that they were out of the wipers I had asked for, which I find hard to believe.The staff Ive dealt with are the regular staff, who are always there. Im not going to mention names here, but I will be when I send in a complaint to upper level management. These people are manipulative. The only thing this place is competent at is up selling.Management has never been helpful, aside from giving me a free alignment since my first one wasnt correct. But even the free alignment was off. And they made sure to upsell me to heck and back on that trip. I have never felt that management cared for customer service, they were just obviously annoyed with me for complaining about their bad work.

They were guessing at the problem. Ended up charging for things I did not need. 1200 dollars down the drain!🙁

We were on a road trip and needed service A on our Mercedes Sprinter. Kniesels manager called to complete the appointment, verified what we needed, and confirmed that they would be able to have us back on the road in hours. (necessary since we were camping in the van!) Just as described they were done and with professional service. I was impressed by the cleanliness of their facility and loved the huge fish tank! We went into town for lunch then did some work in the comfort of their waiting lounges.Even when there was an issue (tire weights were mounted outboard too far by the tire installers which worked fine for the back but when rotated to the front they tapped the brake calipers) Kniesels Auto immediately identified the problem and corrected it (pulling their best tech off another job to ensure we were back on the road).I recommend them for all your sprinter maintenance. No hesitation to stop by there again for service. I would recommend Kniesels Auto Service Center of Sacramento, on Bicentennial Drive, to anyone.We had another mechanic that we loved and trusted and he up and retired on us. I tried a few other mechanics, based on word of mouth, and didnt really trust any of them. I looked on AAAs approved list and Kniesels was top on their list.I took our 1996 RAV4 in a few weeks ago for an oil change and because I had a check engine light on. The staff were super professional, the place was clean and the work came back exactly on their estimate.The service guy I talked to, and sorry I cant remember his name, was personable and really knew his stuff ( he usually works at the Citrus Heights Store.) He discussed service options, everything from doing nothing and what that would mean, to the complete fix and what that would cost.I now feel confident taking all my vehicles to Kniesels.

Went there for an oil change. They were 20mins late to get me in but it wasn’t a big deal until my low oil light came on 1000 miles later, checked my oil and it was critically low. I typically change my oil every 3,000 miles...checked my car for leaks etc but there were none.

I’ll start this off by saying I have been a loyal customer of Kniesels for nearly a decade, and they have always taken good care of my cars.I recently took my 2011 Mazda 6 there for an oil change, brakes, transmission fluid exchange, new valve cover gasket, and some other things. The total came to $1,400. They told me that it would also need new radiator hoses, a new thermostat, and coolant flush, which they would give me an estimate for after they priced all the parts. The estimate for those 4 items was another $1,400. I was suspicious that this was the same amount as I had just paid them. I got estimates from several other places including a Mazda dealership. Sure enough, those estimates were a fraction of this amount. One of the other shops even did a complimentary multi point inspection and found that the hoses, thermostat, and coolant were all perfectly fine and didn’t need replacing at all.I’m giving 2 stars instead of one because the owner, Brent Kniesel, did have the courtesy to call me back when I told him what happened. He lowered the estimate to $1,100. Still much more than the others. He tried to say that the other shops estimates were cheaper because they must not have included the sales tax!! Nice try.Looking back, I had always attributed the high cost of maintaining my car to it being a Mazda and not a more mainstream brand like Toyota or Honda. When I put the pieces together, I think that Kniesels was nickel and diming me all along. They do know how to fix and maintain cars, but they do not charge fairly. I will now be taking my business elsewhere. If this review saves just one person from being taken advantage of, my purpose has been served. Always get a second opinion if the estimate seems too high, and don’t get suckered into buying “extras” that the manufacturer doesn’t recommend.

I took my car for repair at Kniesels auto service on Bicentennial cir,they charged me for diagnosis.The issue with the car was check engine light on due to p0300 - Engine miss fire.I paid for the diagnosis and they told that the issue could be one of the followingTiming belt, crank shaft, cam shaft, spark plugs, coils etc.I told them the coils were new, spark plugs were new and timing belt was done last year.They wanted to change the spark plugs and coils and so i paid additional $500 (roughly ) .The total was around $650. They told me car was fixed and i c an come pick it up.I have to pay the money first or they wont allow you to take the car, so i paid the amount and took it to test drive.In less than half a mile engine light came back on.I took it back and they said they have to do additional diagnosis.It took them 4 weeks, and they changed solenoid and couple of other things, total was again $600.This time the manager himself test drove the car and there were no issues.Now they told me that the light comes on when car is at higher speedI paid this amount and took it for test drive again, the light came back on again with in half a mile. Now they want to open the engine and it would cost me additional charges the total i paid by now was about $1200. (I have all the receipts and the notes they put in the receipt).I asked them to remove the parts and give me my car back after 6 weeks since it still has issues.They said they cant remove it since the part is already in there. They did how ever remove one part, solenoid and refunded me around $180.Now my car is not fixed and i still have paid around $1000 to them and they say they cant refund me this money.Also they now tell me that i have to take my car away since they do not have space to put my car in their workstation.Update - so after throwing away $1200 here and $800 for rental cars over 6 weeks, I took my car to a local guy, he fixed it in 1 day and it cost me $75 for a sensor for detecting frequency.Think at least 5 times before taking ur car here,if u still go test drive before paying. Dont be fooled by their coupons.

I stumbled across kniesels on my way to my job and was greeted by the Manager, Rick. he made me feel welcome and truly interested in my trucks problems. when i returned to pick up my truck again i felt right at home. my pleasure in this visit was that Rick explained to me in simple terms what the problem was, which for me is monumental as i am mechanically challenged. he took me to my truck which was on the lift and showed me the problem so i would better understand. with that experience, i have since returned with other issues as my truck is 10yrs old and was again treated with respect. another reason for the return visit is that i did not feel gouged when i received the bill, as i have so many times in the past. Last week my transmission acted up. Took vehicle in to another shop, was told after a short test drive that I needed new transmission. Wanted a second opinion. Called Kniesels and asked if they would diagnose. Was told they would and asked what a diagnosis entailed. Was told the pan would be dropped and an inspection would take place. Took the vehicle in and was told that I would need a new tranny. Was told the pan was never dropped and this was determined by test drive. This cost $137.00. I was charged for a test drive. The first shop didnt charge me anything. Was told the same thing by Kniesels and charged. They didnt do what they said they would do. Lost a customer.

Since they opened up in the old AAA auto repair location, Kniesels has always been good to deal with, particularly Rick, the service manager at the East Sac location. I live nearby and use them for my two VWs and appreciate the quick courtesy shuttle rides home and honest estimates.In May 2014 I brought in my wifes 1998 VW Cabrio to do a full set of car shocks and alignment which they recommended as needed work - about $1100 worth. Long story short, the car had some shock installation work done improperly resulting in several trips back to Kniesels. I must say now that I feel the last issue was an honest mistake made by the bay mechanic.After the last issue, we took the car back to our local German car mechanic where they diagnosed the issue, ordered another part and charged me almost $400 for the work. If I had had more time, I would have brought the car back to Kniesels (as my german car mechanic suggested after diagnosing the issue) to have the issue resolved to its conclusion.In early May, I put in a detailed complaint/review, prompted by a follow-up automated email from Kniesels, detailing what had happened. I was contacted almost immediately by Rick the location manager. He was, as always, very courteous and honest.We discussed the issue by phone; I emailed Rick photos of the work done and showed him the receipt from the other mechanic. He immediately put in paperwork for a refund of the total amount of money I paid to fix my wifes car at another mechanic. I had a check and a letter of apology from Bryan Pearson, Kniesels general manager within two business days. Rick also offered to have my wifes car detailed again at no charge.In conclusion, I would say Kniesels did the right thing by me and have kept my business. I would recommend them to anyone needing auto mechanic work done. Honest mistakes happen in life and it is not often you find a shop that will work with you to this extent when they come up. I feel they did exactly what was needed to keep my business and I thank Rick for his help.

These guys were very professional and worked late on a Friday to get the job done without an appointment. Highly recommended.
