Wonderful, kind staff all around. Shout out to the amazing Dr. Miller!! πŸ’– This is not my normal vet, but the Emergency Services has seen both of my cats this year, and Dr. Miller & her awesome staff helped then both through their illnesses / injuries and my experience far exceeded my anxious expectations. Im so thankful for the staff here. Thank you all very much for taking care of Randy & Nora!

I am literally sitting in the parking lot waiting for my dog; who just had her first grand maul seizure and VCA has been so great tonight that I’m already posting this review.Jacqueline, the vet tech was able to calm me down (as I was pretty frantic when we arrived)and took a very comprehensive history.Dr. Olson explained everything that he could about seizures and ruled out many other things. He answered each of my questions with patience. Not only are the staff at VCA highly competent, but they have a great bedside manner; and when you’re dealing with pet patients, it is important that your bedside manner relates to both to the pet and the owner. Thank you all for taking care of of P today. πŸ‘

In early June we had to take our senior kitty in twice for what appeared to be seizures. Dr. Miller and Dr. Slater both attended to our kitty on separate visits. Both of them were so kind and attentive. I know that they were busy because the VCA hospitals always are, but they never rushed me when speaking with me over the phone and talking me through all of the options to treat our kitty. They answered all of my questions respectfully and thoroughly, and without any judgment. My partner and I still talk about how thoughtful both doctors were and how we could feel their care for our sweet guy. They were also mindful of our kitty’s elderly age and our finances when recommending treatment - but they always made sure that we knew all of the options and didn’t try to sway us in any direction. When Dr. Slater called us a couple days later to review some test results she was so kind in asking after our kitty. Honestly you both were kinder to us and to him than our family vet had been in the last few years. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Dr. Miller, Dr. Slater, and the whole VCA team!

I would like to give a shout-out to all the staff here. I had to take my elderly dog in at 2:30am. I thought i was going to have to euthanize him. I was visiting Forestville, called ahead, & they took me. I couldnt go in with him,BUT, they said if he had to be euthanized, they would let me be with him❀Dr.Wingate was VERY nice & explained to me, on the phone, that she assessed him to be healthy & that he might have Senior Canine Cognitive Disorder (Alzheimers for dogs) & that traveling was stressing him out! She sent me home w/ some pain- killers and told me I can give him Melatonin. Whole bill was$135. She was right. Were home now, & have him Melatonin for the car ride home, & hes doing great!!!πŸ™Thank you ALL!!!πŸ₯°

I know this place gets a bad rap sometimes for charging a lot for their services. Our old dog was at the end of her rope and she needed to be put down, she couldnt eat or drink and didnt have the strength to get up. We were hoping to wait until the regular vet was back from the long weekend but felt we needed to end her suffering. So I called to find out what theyd charge and it was in line with what our regular vet charges. We brought her in and to my surprise, the staff was super professional and very compassionate. Way more than our regular vet. They made what is always a tough time bearable. No upcharges, no surprises. Thanks to all the staff!

I called before coming to this location to let VCA staff know what was going on with my pet. We were told in his condition, this is considered an emergency and it’s best to get him in ASAP. Arriving at VCA emergency in Rohnert Park, we got checked in and were told that we were 3rd in line and he would be seen once the two patients ahead of us were done. After an hour, we noticed about 4 different cars pulling up and been seen immediately as their pet didn’t look like it was in as much pain as ours. By all means, we understand a life threatening situation needing attention but seriously? We asked one of the staff members for a status update on our position in line and she said it was 2-3 hours! How did we go from we’d be seen immediately to ONE hour then to 3? Are you kidding? All of this is happening meanwhile our dog is whimpering in pain in the car with us! The staff member who gave us the status update was extremely unpleasant. She was rude and not sympathetic. Same goes for another staff member holding a clipboard helping another patient that jumped in front of us. We were given dirty looks and felt mistreated due to our frustration that was not properly accommodated yet alone, ACKNOWLEDGED!! If my wife and I could give this place negative stars, that’s what it would get. Don’t waste your time people because their quality, communication and customer satisfaction skills absolutely suck and our dog was left untreated.

He specializes in dog orthodontics and oral surgery. He was able to see us and walked us through every step and issue we were having with our dogs oral issues. After surgery he checked in several times even before our check up. He answered every question and was supportive and understanding for all our concerns. Our puppy is now healthy happy and fully recovered with no more dental issues!Wed happily recommend Dr. Chris Carter for anyone needing dental help with their dog.

This vet is not cheap, I was hesitant, but the first cat I brought in needed more care than the local vet could give. I was completely impressed with the care, the service and all the assistance they gave us finding affordable meds for her. The doctor and his tech treated both of us with care and concern and now this kitty is doing great. So when my second cat got a growth on her face, I took her to VCA. I was told she had to have all of her teeth removed. Very expensive and It didnt sound like a great idea. The vet showed me pictures and was able to explain why this was necessary, and calm my concerns about a toothless cat. I pulled out the credit card and said go ahead. I had no idea my cat was in such pain until I saw the change in her behavior. All I can say is wow, I feel guilty that I didnt know how bad her teeth were and how negatively it was impacting her. Today she is in great shape and a much calmer and happier kitty. You get what you pay for, not always true, but in respect to the staff at VCA I must say it is. They are great and I can trust that my fur balls are getting great care.Thank you from Ginalola, Lana Turner, and mom and dad!

After not being able to see her Vet and a visit to another Vet hospital a couple weeks before where she was misdiagnosed and given methadone only to be released in the same condition. This hospital X-ray and blood work found she had serious health problems and for her age we both agreed that it would have been way too much for her at her age. She suffered enough and was a fighter. Carried on through it all. I’m disabled and she was my companion cat and my other half of my heart β™₯️ they let me spend time with her and be there with her through the whole euthanasia. After my recent experience with Dr Schaffner I will not be going back.I brought my cat in for heavy and open mouth breathing. I waited in the parking lot for about 2hrs to be told that he had less than 24hrs to live. He was just at home roaming the yard and sitting on my lap, etc. They did an X-ray and said he had fluid in his chest and either she can take it out and write a quote but we’re looking at about $2000-$3000 for the full work up or just put him down. She recommended just putting him down because that’s what she would do if that was her cat.I know my cat and I knew in my heart that those couldn’t have been the only options. I sat outside debating what to do and just wanted to bring him home and get another opinion. Spending thousands of dollars or just putting him down was not an option.I called into the office and spoke to the doctor again and told her I wanted to bring him home and she said she didn’t want to do that. She can just put him down now or write a quote up. I asked for the quote and it just wasn’t what I wanted to put him through as she wanted to hospitalize him. So I called back asking for my cat once again and she said she didn’t feel comfortable with that and did i think about the quote? At this point I regretted bringing my cat there it seemed like it was all about the money. They can could only help my cat if I paid the high and outrageous prices or put him down. I felt like I had to beg to get my cat back as it took 20-30 mins. I honestly felt that the doctor had already put him down without my consent. However, she finally released him but only if I put him down that day in the next couple of hours or the next day. I lied and said yes I’ll have a vet come out and do it as it was the only way to get my cat back.My cat was just at home that morning in the yard, jumping on the chair and doing his normal routine except for breathing heavy. That is why it didn’t seem right to throw in the towel on him.I finally received my cat by a lady on the side door that didn’t say one word to me and. handed me my cat and a paper. She wouldn’t look at me and just walked away and shut the door. I felt awful that I brought my cat there to be around people that weren’t looking out for him.I brought him home in hopes he would make it through the night as she told me he had less than 24hrs. He made it and I called my vet and they made time and rushed him in. Within 5mins they took out the fluid and he was breathing much better. They watched him for a couple of hours and released him to go gone home a with meds the same day and $360 later. He has now been home for 4 days and he is back to his normal self. No thanks to Dr. Schaffner as we would have lost him.I ask that you please follow your gut and if it doesn’t feel right get another opinion. We take our fur children to these places and trust that they will treat them like their own and have their best interests at heart. Unfortunately I didn’t feel that was true of Dr Schaffner. I hope my experience can help others as I would hate to have any other animal’s possibly be authorized due to the lack care and quality.

These veterinarians are highly skilled, and trained to deal with even the most difficult of situations. My dog had a fever and was very sick and stayed overnight in the ER at a cost of 1.5K which I am fine with, however, you did not send him home with any type of medication and he was back for an overnight stay 2 nights later at a cost of 1K, and you finally sent him home with something. It cost me an additional 1K just to get the medication that I should have got on the first trip when they did all the testing. Then I pay to see an internal specialist who prescribes him the same medication that they gave him during the second ER visit, which seemed unnecessary to pay for given they did not provide any additional information since his last ER visit. When my dog was not responding to the medication after about a week, I went elsewhere to get a second opinion and they diagnosed him with a completely different issue through a simple blood test, that was already done with you and I do not understand how this could be missed given how high the levels he tested positive for were. My dog then responded to the new medication within 24hrs.The scary part is that you asked me not to come back for a check in for 30 days, and if we did not take action, our dog could have had permanent damage to his head and jaw and he is only 1 years old.You clearly showed that my dogs health did not matter to you, but getting my money did. I trusted you as a vet and was milked every step of the way for every dollar possible and spent over 2.5K just to be run in circles. I do not appreciate being taken advantage of in this situation and I am sad that after spending all that money, I left with more questions than answers.

The service and care at this animal hospital was amazing. Our 11 year old daughter was with us to usher her beloved pet rat, Lily, off of the planet and she was distraught. The staff was kind, patient and attentive. There were 2 emergency-triage-dogs that came in after us and we witnessed the staff take loving care of those dogs and their families while giving us no less attention. We were given a private exam room and the tech was thoughtful, respectful and empathetic. When we got Lily back, they had cleaned out her transport box (which had been a mess), wrapped her in a clean white cloth and placed a live hydrangea on her. Our daughter had wanted to wait to bring Lily to our veterinarian because they know us and give us great care, and we were surprised this animal hospital that wed never been to before provided excellent and loving care to our pet and to us.

VCA in SF city had a 5 hour wait time this particular wet Saturday afternoon, so it was a relief to come here instead. Not to mention the consult fee is only $98 compared to $120. Plenty of parking is another bonus, too. Our visit cost $442 all up with meds, subcutaneous hydration, and pain shot. Worth it for getting our much loved boy comfortable.

I have a dog who has Tricuspid Valve Dysplasia and Pulmonary Hypertension. His cardiologist is an absolute saint of a woman and her staff are the best of their calibur. My dog adores each of them and is so happy to be there. He even tries to run out to the hall before they are ready for him. Absolutely 0 fear and he knows what is coming. This 1 star is not because of his cardiologist. Honestly, leaving her care is the hardest decision I am making. However, after a YEAR of horrible customer service at the front desk, I am done. 6 months ago he was supposed to have an appointment. Mind you, you have to book these months in advance due to the demand. My original appointment time is canceled and they state they called me to reschedule. I check my call logs and there was 1 call. Just 1. I dont have voicemail as I only got messages from telemarketers. So I call furious that his appointment was canceled and they had no appointments available for a month. They didnt save time slots for those people who had to be rescheduled. They didnt book us before booking other patients. Nope. Nothing. When questioned why they didnt try harder to make contact, they balked.I end up missing a call from a manager (I escalated the situation) and so they text me. Yes, apparently they could have texted me after the missed call that left them with no way to leave a voicemail. At this point I was livid. I had already planned to move my dogs care to somewhere else. His cardiologist convinces me to stay and only work with her. Great in theory but the front desk has to route all calls and have given me hassle everytime I have called and asked for a transfer. After waiting the month at his last checkup, his values are going in the opposite direction that we want. This is the first time that has happened since we figured out his meds. I can only assume had his care been more timely, it could have been caught sooner/prevented.Now he is due for his next appointment. Prior to this, the front desk has screwed up multiple prescriptions and have comped several due to their horrible errors. Now I am being told his appointment is not at the time I set it to but at a far earlier time. A time I cant easily get away from work. A time I did not pick. The front desk staff gave me 2 options and the booked the opposite of what I said. The front desk staff was no help. I ask to speak to a manager. He texts me after I missed his call (playing in a soccer game) and texts me the number. I finish my 3 games and call him back, but he left for the day. He gave me less than an hour to call him back with no note about his end time.I am house sitting in Sonoma and have no way to plan my morning now. I have no idea if my dog will get seen tomorrow. I am only writing this review because it is apparent they care more about these than their actual patients. There have been 3 other horrible times I have come in here under emergency care with different animals. They ended up refunding me on 1 due to failing to abide by our wishes in how they cared for our cat. Just run. Run to Petcare. They actually care about the animals from start to finish and not just once you get past the front desk staff. I am choosing to drive to UC Davis from now on for care because I cant stomach that horrid place getting another dime out of me.

I have been taking my animals to VCA for over 15 years. Ive never had a bad experience in all that time. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, kind and caring. I especially want to give props to their Cardiologist, Dr. McDonald who has been working with us recently on my 15 year old Rotti who suffers from congestive heart failure with Afib. She was able to diagnose and miraculously prescribe him a treatment plan that has undoubtedly extended his time with us. Hes back on his feet and wagging that tail again. Thank you so much to all the staff!! I plan to always use VCA for my emergency pet needs and wouldnt even consider another hospital.

While vacationing abroad, our 10 1/2 yr. Golden Retriever suffered gastric torsion or bloat and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to let her go. Not only was it hard for us, the Vet in charge was totally honest and showed nothing but compassion and concern for us and Bella. Even though our little girl was only with them a very short period of time, we received a card that that had a personal message and signature from everyone who was on duty. They showed genuine love and concern, not only for her when she had to cross over, but, for us as a family and our other furr-baby who missed her terribly. A first class facility!

I just brought my chihuahua Lilo in as an urgent late night visit after she ate part of the stem of a daylily and started continuously retching. The man who answered the phone and was manning the front desk (regretting I didnt get his name - just stressed out about the doggie!) was calm and friendly, and someone came out immediately to check on Lilo. Olga, who brought Lilo back to meet the doc, couldnt have been nicer and was so sweet to Lilo who was shaking. Olga looked up what kind of lily Lilo ate, and of course dog-baby stopped retching the minute we went to the doc (probably just coughed up whatever was still stuck in her throat), so she seemed just fine. We stayed long enough for them to briefly observe Lilo - not one retch while we were there. Because of that she didnt even really need treatment or a full exam so they sent us on our way - didnt even charge us! Im so glad to know they are there and open 24 hours in case we ever have another pet emergency. Thank you VCA and Olga and the lovely man at the front! Highly recommend!

Our 5 yr old Frenchie had an oral mass on the buccal gingiva of her right mandible. Our regular veterinarian referred me to a dental specialist and I chose Dr. Carter. He was great. He did a thorough examination and indicated that he thought the mass was a peripheral odontogenic fibroma but his initial diagnosis needed to be confirmed via biopsy. On the day of the surgery, after taking full mouth radiographs, Dr. Carter carefully went over every single tooth on the radiographs to explain why he thought all of her lower teeth should be removed except for her two canines and two incisors. My boyfriend is an oral surgeon (for humans) and he was having a hard time grasping why Dr. Carter was recommending the extraction of all of her lower teeth. Dr. Carter was very patient with my boyfriend and explained to him multiple times why he was recommending so many extractions. Two weeks post-surgery, Daisy is doing great. Shes back to eating her regular kibble. The only thing we have to be careful about is to make sure that any hard, dry food isnt too big. We were very pleased with Dr. Carters service and will be going back to him for her one year check-up!

Just took my dog in to get an ultra sound done of her heart after initially taking her to an emergency vet and being recommended to this place. The vet ended up prescribing some medication that was supposed to help her heart condition. After giving her the suggested dosage this morning she started having side effects that she has never had in her 6 years and that are not listed in the medication as possible side effects. I called the vet and let them know of this situation as soon as it happened and they asked that I video record it if it happened again as it was weird to hear that this was going on. It ended up happening again so i recorded it and called them to let them know. They told me to take her in so she can get checked to get her blood pressure taken. The problem is that they want to charge me an extra $90 to recheck her for something that they possibly did wrong. I find that to be complete bs and unethical to charge someome for a mistake that they made after I just paid them $1000 24 hours ago for them only to prescribe something that is making my dog feel sick. Clearly shows that their principals are just about making money and unless you are willing to pay, your pet will not be treated even though they are the ones making the mistake. I would avoid this place unless its for nail clipping or something that doesnt require medication as they possibly will prescribe the wrong dosage and end up charging you extra to hopefully get it right the 2nd time around.

Wish there was a you suck button, took my 5month puppy in because she was acting disoriented and having problems standing, (profiling based on appearance) the vet instantly assumed it was pot and my puppy was just HIGH even after I stated we dont use pot and Im allergic to it and testing her urine (being neg) still my puppy being HIGH was the only reason for the way she was acting, he gave her charcoal to make her better...this vet didnt even exam her just kept saying are you sure she didnt eat pot, isnt possible she could have gotten a hold of it somewhere, you know its legal....really messed up....still concerned when she wasnt better the next day, took her to another local vet, who actually examed her, she has an ear infection which caused vertigo like symptoms they cleaned it out and gave me animax ointment to administer twice a day for the next week.... dont take your babys to this vet.....awful, awful experience

As a 20 year pet owner in sonoma county I have had a mix of experiences here, some good some bad, some incredibly expensive, some affordable. Today I was there for five hours and all my dog got was an exam.. Dr Goldfarb only offered me the most expensive diagnostic options as a starting point and no in between treatment options. Treatment like this is one of the reasons I took a break from coming here a decade ago. I am incredibly disappointed at being quoted 1600+ for non emergency diagnoses after waiting ao long and no treatment options in between. Today was incredibly frustrating and horrible. I was no way in hell going to leave my dog there with people who left us waiting for five hours, we can do better observing him at home and bringing him to our regular vet who actually cares about his health. I will say other doctors like Wingate, Slater and Schaffer and Olson have been great in the past.

Last August my 10 month lab Trigger impaled his rear leg on a metal fence panel and suffered a fracture to his femur. I rushed him to our vet in Petaluma, who performed initial x rays and confirmed the break, and informed us that he was in need of immediate surgery. They contacted VCA, whose receptionsit told them they could operate on Trigger the following day. Upon arrival at VCA, Tuesday August 29th, the first technician told us the soonest the surgeon could see Trigger would be Thurs. the 31st. Trigger would spend the next 2 days in a kennel. We couldnt understand how they could make him wait, and when we pressed it, we were told multiple times Its not a life or death situation, its just a broken leg, he can wait. Wednesday night I asked about surgery scheduled the next day. An angry technician snapped back, You were never told it was Thursday, it has always been Friday. So Trigger waits ANOTHER day. When we finally meet with a surgeon, Dr. Ree, she tells us shes been on vacation! So theyve lied about why he had to wait. Surgery is finally done on September 1st, after which I recieved a call from Dr. Ree. One of the first things she asks me is, Did he impale himself on something? I responded yes of course that was the original injury, the reason for our visit. To which she replied, Oh THATS why I found so much hair and crud in his leg! Are you kidding me? NOT something you want to hear from your dogs surgeon, AFTER surgery. He arrived at their hospital with obvious puncture wounds, VCA themselves note these in their own reports, and write that they stapled them closed! She then goes on to tell me that because this was an open fracture, that they did not know about, Triggers risk for infection went from less than 7 to greater than 20 percent. When I asked if operating on him sooner would have made a difference, she told me it would not have, which I still cannot believe. Theres no way that sitting in a kennel for 3 days with such an injury was not detremental to my dogs health.Over these days, we receive several estimates, each day that they make us wait it increases. The first one being between 4 and $6,000. The final number Dr. Ree gave us was a discounted $8,000. Ridiculous. We picked up Trigger the day after his surgery, and refused the 8,000. We asked to speak to a manager and were not allowed to. We end up paying a total of $7,000. In their discharge paperwork they sneak in that they didnt know he was impaled! Did not sign this lie. We asked if he could stay for his leg to stabilize and his swelling to decrease, a technician pushed us out and told us Itll be safer at home because there a lot of sick dogs here and it will raise his risk of infection. This was after hed been sitting for days in their care with an open fracture, but operating on him sooner wouldnt have made a difference. We leave with Trigger, whose leg is swollen beyond belief, not casted, not wrapped. A technician helping us to our car even says, normally we would cast this but his leg is so swollen. Maybe because he sat in a kennel for 3 days? After 3 stressful weeks of sedating and carrying Trigger by sling I notice something wrong. I take him back to our vet, whose x rays show that the plate VCA put in has SNAPPED. His leg is broken again. Theres now been so much trauma to his leg, we make the difficult decision to amputate. All the while, we never received a single phone call, email from VCA to follow up, never to check in on Trigger, even after they were contacted about the second break.VCA did not treat Trigger as soon as they should have, and when they realized their fault with the open fracture, they tried to cover their tracks by sneaking into our discharge paperwork that they were never told the details and then washed their hands of us. My dogs mobility is now changed for life. If they had been honest with us in the first place how long he would have to wait, we would have taken him elsewhere. If they even stabilized his leg before they sent us home, I feel that my dog could still have his leg.

I just called the 24/7 line because I was totally freaked out - I thought I was going to lose my fur baby…but the lady working on the phones at the time (I wish my name memory didn’t fail me so horribly) calmed me down, gave me thorough yet soothing advice, and provided me numbers for just-in-case situations, since the doctor wasn’t working this particular night. It was straight mom love.
