Hired company to clean two 8 x 10 area rugs (one textured wool and the second a wool and silk) plus a sofa. The gentleman, who was very nice, sprayed the first wool rug with a light mist, then used a polishing machine to clean the carpet. At first I thought this was some strange first step before he used the actual extraction equipment to clean the rug. No! He was actually using a buffing machine and buffing pad to smash down the raised design, without touching the lower level of the textured rug and of course, not cleaning anything at all. When I asked him why he wasnt using the actual extraction equipment and chem-dry method, he said his employer didnt have that equipment. I pointed out to him that all hed managed to do was smash the raised portions of the rug without cleaning anything. He acknowledged he wasnt happy with the this method, either. He wanted to try again but I told him no, it was evident a polishing machine was not the proper method for cleaning a rug. He then tried using a carpet rake to re-raise the design hed smashed and it tore at the carpet loops. He did do a nice job on the sofa. I called the company to find out why they hadnt told me they didnt have actual chem-dry equipment and cleaning methods and they still have not returned my call after over a week.
