I used them for basement waterproofing. They are professional, polite, considerate, cleaned up after themselves and communicated. I would recommend this company and its employees.
From the owner/estimator (Neil), to the operations manager (Mark), To the foreman (Chad), and to the crewman (BJ), and to the accounts receivable/front desk gentleman (Ralph):THANK YOU for a job well-done!!My wife and I have a house that was built in 1988, and during original construction, the master bathroom and spare bathroom vents were connected with a soft/foil/dryer hose, exiting out thru the gutter/soffit area. I was concerned about the soft hose being possibly ripped and creating moisture and mold in the attic, because I didn’t know if those hoses were broken in anyway. Neil noticed a little bit of air-loss coming straight up into the insulation, making the insulation physically move, allowing moisture. He also noticed my original cardboard baffles were broken, misplaced, and insulation was covering my soffit vents...causing a blockage which could also allow moisture and mildew. Thankfully no mold or mildew was up there, but I just wanted to be up to building code and be preventative in maintenance. You ALL were polite, communicative, patient and courteous and respectful from the very beginning. You ALL got me on the schedule quickly, and you ALL did a marvelous job:-redirecting my attic bathroom vents to my roof’s half-cap w/ metal piping.-fixing the vent air leak.-clearing off my attic-soffit vents.-cleaning up a rodent infestation area removing 4 trash bags of previous animal feces/nesting from the old cardboard baffles-then replacing & putting 40 SQ FT more cellulose insulation up there (at a good price) for me to keep the house more warm/cold throughout the seasons.-installing the requested Modern/Newer style attic baffles. When I got home, I inspected ALL work myself, and everything about the work/job-done looked buttoned-up, professional, NOT shortcut, and all work was clean.I gave the crew permission to work on my house when my wife and I were NOT there. Nothing was stolen, nothing was messed with, and they cleaned up after themselves really well. The foreman sent me pictures of the job before they covered it back up with the new cellulose insulation (which I appreciated).Overall I give this company an A+ plus if I were to grade them. I would recommend this company to anyone! Thanks EVERYONE for a great job and experience! WE can rest well.
Our basement flooded from a burned out sump pump. I many quotes last year to divert downspout run off and sump pump discharge. They were the best priced and I felt they were easy to communicate with. There were some issues that we had resolved fairly quickly. This spring, we discovered the pipe was not buried more than a couple inches below the surface. We called they came out right away and redid the job, which is the redeeming factor. I guess they had a bad crew last summer. But it did work all winter and had I not seen the pipe peaking out in one spot, I wouldnt have known. I have no worries about the water causing another basement flood.
This company did a great job removing absetos tile from my basement floor. Ralph made things very smooth as I was nervous about the whole process. I had no issues whatsoever.
Neil came to our home to provide us with an estimate on whether our basement had mold that needed remediated. A previous company sent us a estimate for close to $2000. Neil was very kind and honest. He confirmed that we did not have a mold concern and gave us tips for things my husband and I could do on our own to repair a few places. He also detected some sections of bowing in our basement walls and gave me detailed instructions on how it would need repaired. He was never pushy and did not make me feel pressured at all. I would highly recommend Neil and his company for their honesty. Neil was quite educated on what exactly needed to be done. Thank you Neil for your help!
We hired Columbus Environmental to perform mold remediation and waterproofing on our basement. We had a great experience! Neil and his team are very professional and considerate of your home. A few days after the work was done we got a lot of rain, and Neil made sure to check in to make sure our basement was dry. Thanks, Neil & team!
Sidney and Matt were wonderful! As a single female homeowner, the process of hiring a contractor to fix foundational issues was quite intimidating. They did exactly the work we discussed and did so in a timely manner. They even helped me fix some chalking issues in the basement that were not included in the quote. I called nearly a month later with questions about the work and within the week Sidney was back to answer my questions and make 2 small repairs. Fair quote and solid work. Definitely would recommend.
Still waiting on our payment from a class action judgement. They are still in business despite supposedly going bankrupt. Still operating under the same (or similar) name. It was some sort of legal maneuver to keep our money and restart. I would be very suspicious great reviews. I hate it companies like Columbus Environmental can take advantage of the consumer. We not only lost a sum of money but also all time and effort involved in filing paperwork for the Class Action suit. Ive attempted to contact them to avail. This companys response is a bold face lie. They completed a job for us and we contracted for another. We paid an almost $3000 deposit and requested to have it refunded. We thought Neil was honest but he is a shyster. Here is their response from todays post:Our company, Columbus Environmental & Waterproofing Solutions, has never received any funds from, done any work, nor performed any services for this person and this review should be removed. Customers are confusing my company for another with a similar name that is not affiliated with Columbus Environmental & Waterproofing Solutions, LLC.
Best experience with a service provider I have ever had! Neil (the President) is such a genuinely nice guy whose main goal is to serve his customer. We were not an easy customer to deal with. We had time and financial obstacles throughout our entire transaction with them. Neil went out of his way to accommodate any needs we had. He was so kind, patient and gracious towards us. I am so very thankful for his flexibility and kind Spirit. As for the quality of work: I could not be more pleased. We had mold covering our entire basement. It was in the carpet, walls, ceiling and everywhere. They did a complete mold remediation. Our basement looked like a new-build when they were done. There was not a trace of mold anywhere. They removed all of our carpet, drywall, the ceiling and fogged so there would not be any remaining spores. I could not believe the difference. The air quality was immediately better. I could tell my health was improving immediately. I will recommend Columbus Environmental to everyone. Their entire team was professional and courteous every step of the way through every process. They respected our property and always left with their equipment cleaned up and our property cleaned up as well. I was comfortable with every team member I interacted with and I had no concerns with any team member in my home from a security perspective. I cannot say enough good things about Neil and his team.Kelly Reinhart
After moving, my husband and I were dismayed to find mold in the basement, especially because we have a babys health to consider. I called every mold remediation company in the area. Most never returned my calls and the one who did wanted to charge me $90 for an estimate. The only company who answered professionally was Marsha. She quickly arranged for a free estimate on their earliest available date. Neil, the owner, did the inspection himself. He was on time, friendly, and honest about what the issue was and how they would go about fixing it. Despite them being booked out weeks in advance he rounded up volunteers to come that Saturday, since he knew the risk to our daughter. Kyle, Sean, and Neil showed up bright and early. They were kind and funny and I felt completely comfortable having them in the house without my husband present. They were thorough and efficient and completed the work even sooner than expected. They pointed out all of the issues that they found and either remedied themselves or-in the case of a wiring problem-recommended another professional they trust. I was left fully confident that we had resolved the issue. We were even given a credit back when part of the job wasnt as significant as expected. How often do you get that kind of honesty these days? I wholeheartedly suggest using them for any trouble you might be having.I know our family will certainly turn toward them again if ever necessary, although Im sure it wont be in regards to this particular mold issue again.
Neil and his coworkers have now done three major projects at our house, the most recent being an entire roof replacement. The roof was significantly damaged during a storm and my insurance company was a nightmare to work with, they were not responsive, I had to chase them down at every turn. Additionally, they simply would not cover the job cost appropriately. Regardless of the communication and cost issues with them, the job done by Columbus Environmental was done in a very timely manner, with professionalism and respect from everyone involved. Like I said, theyve done more than one project for us, and I will continue to call them in the future.
My landlord used them to waterproof the basement. As a tenant that is living in the aftermath of their work I wanted to leave a review. Their staff is awful theyleft the basement dirty and a mess . They did not clean up after emselves. I have dried cement on my walls, steps and door jams. I have piles of rock and debris scattered all over my yard. They ran their truck and trailer thru my neighbors yard and destroyed the grass he just planted. I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone even if they give you the cheapest quote. They broke items in my home and just left it without saying anything. That is just plain awful and disrespectful. Worst company ever. I wish I could give negative 4 stars.
Do NOT believe the positive reviews. The owner Neil is a thief and a liar. His company left our basement in terrible shape and left the job after he received second payment. We are currently seeking legal action. After research, others are also seeking legal action against Neil. Do your research before doing business with this company.
These guys did a great job on multiple projects in my basement. Sidney, Jeff, Neil, Ralph - thank you!
Beautiful craftsmanship sub floor repaired courteous staff thank u so much !
Warning! Will take your money and run without finishing the job. Claims bankruptcy and having cancer.
I write a lengthy review regarding our experience with Columbus Environmental in hopes no one else will have to experience the same.We hired Columbus Environmental in late August of 2018 after Neil came to inspect our property following an exterior water leak. Our home suffered damage requiring replacement of interior hardwood, basement mold remediation, basement ceiling drywall removal and replacement, and exterior carpentry work. We specifically asked Neil if work could be done on the weekends, as my wife and I work during weekdays - Neil said this could be done over a weekend at an extra charge. Neil provided a quote in early October, and upon review by our insurance company we paid the 50% deposit required by Columbus Environmental to begin work .October 13th, 2018 - first day of work - mold remediation and drywall removal in basement occurred.October 27th weekend - workers showed up to replace the drywall in the basement, and I had to express concern as the exterior water leak which was the main problem hadnt even been fixed yet. Workers called Neil and then confirmed with me that they would have to show up another time once exterior leak was fixed.Nov 2018 - During this month concern was raised with Neil regarding the slow pace of work, as we had been informed this would require a couple weekends max (and were paying extra for it). I had numerous issues reaching Neil (would mark that he read my texts, but never responded) and his office secretary. Other issues this month:1)worker showed up on Nov. 3rd to expose the exterior of the home. I expressed concern about when repairs were occur due to winter approaching and not wanting our exterior home exposed to rain/snow.2)Neil responds to concern asking if his company could receive access to the interior of our home while we were away at work during weekdays3) When expressing concern on communication I was informed the secretary had been let go due to this, while she was probably the only one that eventually made a real effort to keep me in the loop.4) On Nov 10th Neils company decided a roofing issue was causing the exterior leak (insurance review did not support this). From Nov 10-23 both I and my insurance agent had minimal response from Neil. On Nov. 30th Neil states he would have a roofer out early in the week so things could get wrapped up. Roofer never showed and texts to Neil went read but unanswered. In mid December I requested a deposit refund from Neil and Columbus Environmental, stating that our home had been open and exposed from the outside for over a month, likely suffered additional damage, and we wanted to move forward with another contractor. The secretary told me he would have Neil contact me, which never happened.Jan 2nd - I went to the office of CE personally to attempt to speak with Neil who was unavailable at the time. Again the secretary stated he was sorry Neil hadnt reached out yet and would let him know I stopped by. A former employee who had recently been let go was present at the office, and told me he was glad I was fighting for my money back. He revealed CE was already in a number of other lawsuits. On Jan 10th I filed for a small claims lawsuit. A hearing date was set for February and I then received notice that the defendant had filed for bankruptcy.Bottom Line: Hiring Columbus Environmental & Neil Bookout turned out to be an incredibly poor decision for my situation. Issues included lack of organization, lack of communication, committing to a plan that couldnt be honored in a timely manner, and questionable decision making that I feel made our property susceptible to further damage. We have now suffered financial/time-oriented loss, and have moved forward with another contractor.I hope this review is helpful and would highly recommend passing on Columbus Environmental for your home repair needs.
We hired Columbus Environmental to remediate a significant amount of mold in the basement of a home we recently purchased. They were able to identify the type of mold, use environmentally-safe products to remediate the mold and install a back-up sump pump to prevent future basement flooding. Neil Bookout, the owner, was on-site to ensure our satisfaction with the job. We were so pleased, we hired Columbus Environmental to power wash and remove mold from our porch, driveway and sidewalk.
