Jeez - some of these reviews are ridiculous.I brought my dog in for vomiting and not wanting to eat (which is very unusual for him by the way). My family veterinarian is booked weeks out and after calling around, realized that was the case with almost every general practice in Reno/Sparks.My dog was triaged promptly on arrival. The nurse agreed with me that he definitely didn’t feel well, but his vitals were stable so I would have to wait. This made me feel better about my situation and I had no problems waiting. Plus, wait 3-4 hours vs. waiting 3-4 weeks!? It was a no brainer!!!People waiting are obviously concerned about their pets, that’s why they are at the ER, but I saw so many more ill and critical pets being pushed before me and I was SO THANKFUL that wasn’t me or my pet. When it was our turn to be seen the doctor was great. I was presented with an estimate about treatment plans and options. In no way did I feel pressured into doing more than necessary. After X-rays and bloodwork it turns out it was just an upset tummy and we were on our way home! Those complaining about costs - it costs money to own a pet! You are at an ER for animals - the only difference is we have health insurance for our visits while most pets do not. It’s not fair to make the staff feel bad because YOU can’t afford things. This place is up front about their costs and you can pick and choose what you would like to do - don’t make them the bad guys.Your pets symptoms are treated like yours when you are at a human ER. If you are not as sick or critical as other people, YOU WAIT! Why is that so hard for some people to understand?!Thank you to the whole staff for being so kind and caring especially during these COVID times when people have seem to have lost their manners and patience. I appreciate everything you do and will not hesitate to come back. Alpha says thank you too!
I would just like to give a very big thank you to vet technician Bryant. He helped us with our dog Max. He is very kind, very knowledgeable and you can tell that he actually cares about animals. He is absolutely amazing. Thanks again Bryant.
Unfortunately I had to put down my sweet cat of 18 years. Everyone at SVS was incredibly kind and understanding during this difficult time. They had a special room set up and they allowed me to sit with my baby girl until I was ready and they explained the whole process. The kindness and compassion shown during this heartbreaking time was incredibly helpful for me. Thank you.
Its never a good thing when you have to go to an emergency vet for your fur baby but I do recommend coming here if you have to!! I had called in a head of time to let them know we were coming in. My dog was having trouble breathing and was vomiting non stop. When I got there they quickly took my dogs vitals and put us into a room. It took about 2 hours for us to be seen by a doctor (it wasnt a life and death situation so I felt like that was fairly quickly compared to some other times Ive had to wait at an emergency vet). The vet was very nice and was very thorough. Although I hope we dont have to visit an emergency vet again, I would definitely come back and recommend to anyone who needs immediate help with their fur babies.
A minute agoHow can you call yourself an EMERGENCY VETERINARY HOSPITAL!!!! Closed Monday and Tuesday. So as long as you can plan your pet emergency around their days off fine. My Dog died on Tuesday. But you don’t care because it’s your day off. You at least answered the door to send me away. Thank you. Cindy Cook
My dogs got into a fight so my husband took our dogs since our regular vet couldnt take them same day. It turned out to not be an emergency and after looking at our dogs they said they could wait until the next day to see their regular vet. I appreciate the honestly and not charging us for looking at the dogs. If youve got fur babies, this is the place to go. Its so clean, professional, and most importantly kind.
I was very impressed by the courtesy, caring and thoroughness of the specialty surgeon, Dr Kidd as well as the rest of the team.UPDATE: my fur baby did end up having to have emergency surgery on her cervical spine and Dr. Lynn did a fantastic job operating on her and removing the destroyed disc particles and today my girl is walking and playing once again. I will be forever thankful for these wonderful doctors and assistants who took the very best care of my girl. 🐾
Beware Stay away the only want your money. My pet got attract by another dog on his back leg. he was using it and getting around but bleeding to much. So I took him in to get checked out. Told it was only puncture wounds but would like to take some e-rays to make sure. Qbert was with me from when he ate dry dog food as a pup. I would have given my life to save him. So I paid the bill and when I did this got another call wanting to do more and I paid it to get a Lifeless dog back. After 7 hour we got home put him to bed and sleep on floor beside him. I called off work that day when he awoken and tried to get up could not use this leg at all but did get there. I said ok he is going to make it. Stayed by his side comforting him but with only a few hours sleep I feel asleep and woke up to a dead dog. The Moral of this story is dont pay them in full they only want your money and dont care about your pet.
I called to see what I should do for my ferret who had just ingested an unknown amount of chocolate, which is highly toxic to their species. The woman on the other end of the phone tried to give me a number to Animal Poison Control and told me to have a debit/credit card ready, as they charge for advice. I told her that I didnt have the money for that. She responded by telling me that she had no other advice for me. I then questioned how an animal ER could not have any advice for me and she responded rudely and then hung up on me. HORRIBLE PLACE. They dont care if your animal lives or dies.
I had to take our sweet cat Dill here over the weekend because he swallowed a sewing needle, thread and all. As soon as I came inside and described the problem, the staff responded immediately by taking his vitals and insuring that he was stable, and soon thereafter gave us a room and proceeded with testing. After confirming scans, Dill was admitted for surgery. Thankfully the on-call surgeon came in very quickly that evening, and everything went well. Im so grateful to all of the kind staff here, they saved our much-loved cat and exhibited great professionalism throughout. Of course, as with all veterinary emergency services, we understand that the cost can be high, but in the end we paid far below the low end of the total quoted cost they gave us, and it was worth every penny. Thank you Sierra Veterinary!
I dont care for the Covid restrictions implemented at this hospital. Sitting in your car while your dog is vomiting and spraying Diarrhea all over you and your car for hours is not ideal. However, the staff really did understand and tried their best to make the situation as comfortable for myself and my baby as they possibly could. My puppy was treated as their own. They were kind and caring. I would definitely bring my pets back. Its hard to be patient in a time where you feel worried. But watching them take pets in and triage more serious situations then my own made me realize how tough their job is. I can only imagine what these staff members go through on a daily basis doing what they do. Its got to be emotionally draining. Thank you to all animal care givers for doing probably one of the hardest jobs out there. You are all so very important and much appreciated.
Today, Saturday, we took our dog in to be stiched up from a horrible laceration. Now the 5 to 6 hour wait time was one thing... but their complete lack of compassion for our dog, their complete lack of empathy of any kind was over the top awful. We had them bring her back out and will figure something else out. Worst service I have ever experienced.
Horrible experience, not only do they prey on your emotions to empty your pockets but their service is sub par, after taking my child’s cat in (which I already knew was going to pass soon) they called washoe county animal control because I didn’t want them to euthanize her there. I wanted to take her somewhere else to be cremated.Even the officer cringed when he came to my house (after they called him over) I told him about the experience and the money they wanted to charge me to put down this cat. What ever you do choose any, literally any business in town besides this one.
Excellent! It was a very busy Saturday and they were honest about the wait times, however they immediately took in our beast and triaged her making sure she was stable. We knew it would be a long wait and expensive... its an ER thats how it works. When we got in Taylor - nurse and Dr Demirdjian were amazing. They were upfront about costs and did everything for our cat. The Dr even said he didnt feel comfortable doing x-rays or scans after the blood work because he didnt want to charge us for what he felt would be no results. The entire visit was a few hours and cheaper then they estimated. They were so professional, carrying, and explained everything. Excellent!
Dr. Phipps and Dr. Henriod both treated my English Bulldog in January. They were incredible. The front staff and vet techs were kind, empathetic, and went out of their way to help. My bulldog was treated with the best care. Dr. Phipps and Dr. Henriod consulted with one another and kept me updated at all times. For a 24 hour facility, it felt like walking into your local vet after knowing them for years. Please dont go anywhere else. Thank goodness for this vet hospital!
Its been about two and a half weeks since I had to take my baby in. The staff and doctors all were very compassionate and very helpful. Sadly we had to put her down and say our goodbyes that night. I really appreciate everything that the whole staff did for us. They made sure she was comfortable and felt no pain anymore. Saying goodbye to one of my babies is one of the hardest things I ever had to do but the staff was there for us as much as they could be. I just want to say thank you SVS family!
Seen quite a few friends take their loved pets to this place just to end up with really light pockets and a dead family pet. Highly recommend going somewhere else.I really hope this place changes their practices and finds the root cause of what causes reviews like this one. Clearly there is an issue within this business and it needs to remove them and replaces them with someone who cares.
Stay away…..they just want your money. This is the second time my pup needed emergency care and the first time I asked for follow up paperwork after they charged me $800 for the visit I was told it was verbal only and I had to memorize the post care. Last night when I declined their $3000 bill to run tests and monitor him under oxygen the vet wrote a nasty follow up saying my dog could die any day and suffer inhumane pain and sufferingI recommend A plus vet and Homeward Bound. Much more caring and not just trying to rip you off and prey on your emotions
They will keep your dog alive long enough to do unnecessary tests, then tell you its more humane to put down your dog, and try to make you feel bad about keeping them alive. Thank god I left with my dog and took her to Klaich in the morning where they performed the necessary surgery that saved her life and kept her alive for the last year and a half. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. EITHER THEY DONT HAVE THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO SAVE YOUR DOGS LIFE OR THEY WOULD RATHER CHARGE MORE MONEY AND SPEND LESS TIME BY PUTTING YOUR DOG DOWN.
They wouldnt even diagnose my emergency without exam, x-ray and bloodwork. What I asked for was simple. They take advantage of people in an emergency just to make as much money as possible.
Had to use them for an emergency due to my fur baby not feeling well. We had the please of working with Katy, whom is AWESOME! Her and Dr Fix made the entire experience a great one despite being there for an emergency. My baby Oso is doing much better, I recommend them to anyone that needs to take their pet to see a vet.
Predatory. Exploitive. Indifferent. Misrepresentative. Uncommunicative.Absolutely everything that is wrong with the “Emergency Vet” industry.Leaving me with utter contempt.
My dog needed TPLO surgery to repair his ruptured ccl. Dr. Kidd did an amazing job. So many vets use staples, or big stiches, Dr. Kidd used internal stitches and glue. Never had any issues with healing. Staff was wonderful as well as rehab staff. We are 12 weeks post op, and my dog is doing really well. Thank you SVS.
I noticed my dog had a pretty bad ear infection so I called around to all the local vets (4 total) and they said they were all booked out for 4-6 weeks and I need to call the emergency vet as it is an infection and it will get significantly worse over time. So I called Blue Pearl asking if they could see him and she told me that it isnt an emergency and I needed to call a family vet. Once I told her they are all booked out for a month and they ALL told me to call an emergency vet, she proceeded to tell me that they would not see him and I once again I needed to schedule it with a family vet. ITS AN INFECTION! I CANT WAIT FOUR WEEKS FOR AN APPOINTMENT. The receptionist was extremely rude and if I were to listen to her so called recommendation, my dog would probably need surgery. Thank goodness I was able to take him to the 24 hour emergency vet on Neil Rd. They saw him the exact same day and my dog got the treatment he needed immediately no problem.
The staff has always been great for us, and very kind. Having two cats and a dog, we have had to bring them in for various reasons and never were we turned away or told to visit another facility. They are able to handle some very difficult situations and circumstances regarding pet emergencies. I really appreciate their hard work, especially the fact that they keep it going 24 hours a day.Thank you
After bringing my dog to the local vet multiple times because she wouldn’t eat and keeping her on an iv as she became really weak we had her at home (as they couldn’t keep her overnight) and were afraid she wasn’t going to make it. We brought her to Sierra as a last ditch effort knowing no matter the cost we would have at least tried everything for our fur baby. They were able to diagnose her and medicate her and we picked her up the next day! I’ve never been so happy or so in awe. Our girl needs to be on medication for a genetic disease for the rest of her life but it’s been a year and she’s happy and healthy. Thank you so much.
This isthe worst place to take your animals, I took my dog Friday night at 6:20 a so called nurse guy came out to evaluate my Bella, had me pull up her lips so he could see her gums, then said it would be 2 to 3 hours before they could see her, at 9:20 I called and they said it would be another 2 to 3 hours, I told them my baby was very sickThey said someone will come out and re evaluate her I waited 10 more minutes and no one came out so I leaved and went to Animal Emergency on so Virginia stPulled up and they came out and took her in with in 1 minuteUnfortunately my baby died Saturday morning from some kind of seizure .And they never even called me to see if I leaved to use a restroom or what everSo my emergency and there emergency are not even closeSo sad
No regard for their customers needs. We spent over $3,000.00 for a laparoscopic spay and tac surgery for our dog. We chose this hospital because they were supposed to be the best. Several months later, there was an issue with the incision area. They gave us the option of waiting several weeks for an appointment or waiting in their parking lot for over 4 hours. They are not allowing people to leave. You must stay in your car for over 4 hours. They have no regard for their customers. It is all about their convenience.
Our cat ate some thread at about 4:00 on a Sunday afternoon. We initially took him to Emergency Veterinary Services (EVS) over on Neil Road, which turned out to be a huge mistake. EVS took our cat, and wouldnt let us come into the building. It took them an hour to even tell us what was happening, and when they called us, the doctor told us that our cat had a severe heart murmur (which our regular vet had never detected), and that inducing vomiting had a 20% chance of just killing him outright. It still seemed like the best option, so we told him to go ahead. 90 minutes later, we called back and they still had not gotten around to inducing the vomiting, increasing the risk that the thread would pass into his intestines. We picked him up from EVS and took him here, to Sierra Veterinary Services. The difference was night and day. They let us come in and be with our cat. Dr. Matheney came and spoke to us in person, and made us feel at ease instead of panicked. Two doctors there listened to his heart, and were unable to detect any murmur. We went ahead and induced vomiting there, which they did right away, keeping us updated the whole time. In the end, we left with a healthy (albeit angry) cat, and about as good an experience as one could want from an emergency veterinarian. The staff was all kind, competent, and attentive. The facilities were clean and new, and everyone seemed happy to be there. The difference in service and attitude between Sierra and EVS couldnt be more stark. I hope we never need their services again, but its great to know theyre there!
Brought my doggo in after hours after he took a chomp out of a porcupine. They saw him immediately, and upon examination found that it was not as bad as it looked. They took out the quills right away, and then came back outside to offer us the option of taking him home for monitoring, or waiting another 90 mins to sedate him for a full exam (which didnt seem necessary given his condition). We really really appreciated them doing that. What amazing service. They seem to really love what they do and care for everyone, furry pets and pawrents alike. Highly recommend.
10 assistants to check cliants in, one doctor on staff to care for patients on a Friday afternoon. A 3 hour wait without any updates or checking in on the patient condition. The manager of this facility should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.
My puppy had an injury that wasn’t improving so I brought her here. Her regular vet had misdiagnosed her and now with the proper diagnosis she is getting better. My puppy was examined, xrayed. I was given pain meds to bring home. We were there less than 2 hours: and everyone was efficient and caring. (I was sorry to hear about the negative experience another reviewer had.) The cost was expected but still .., $600. I am lucky because I was able to afford the fee. Overall I’m very pleased with the care my puppy received and I would use this facility again in an emergency.
If you care at all about your pet, take them elsewhere. We wasted very valuable time and over $2k to take our puppy home. When he started displaying symptoms again, we brought him to Animal Emergency. Night and day difference. Due to the time wasted and incorrect medical advice given, our 3 month old puppy is no longer with us. Stay as far away from this place as possible and do yourself a favor: read the HUNDREDS of other 1 star reviews with the SAME EXPERIENCE and wonder why their reviews are disabled on Facebook as well. This place should not be in the business of helping animals
Im overdue to leave a review. I was really impressed with this 24 hour facility when we had an early evening emergency a year ago. My friends dog got in a fight with a porcupine while I was watching her, and Sierra took swift and loving care of her to remove nearly a hundred quills. They were able to work with us and my friend on speaker phone. She was in another state but it was great that they could help us in that situation. Kind staff and excellent care.
I dont normally leave reviews but this facility deserves it. I had to bring my dog in at 4am with a diagnosis of aspiration pneumonia and she needed to be hospitalized. If anyone has ever been in this position with their pet, you know how terrifying it is. For me, this was the first time. But these vets and their team explained things and took the time, answered any and all of my questions enthusiastically, and worked through what was absolutely necessary on the bill since I dont have much money. The building is huge and new. It houses top of the line equipment and is laid out in a practical, yet comfortable way for the people and the animals(even when they have to stay overnight). Anyway, this vet is amazing. Freda is home, a few days into her antibiotics, and is almost completely back to herself. Thanks Dr. Hayes and everyone who helped. Thanks for saving my girl.
Worst experience ever. Was told we would get a call back immediately after seeing our dog which was apparently not the right information given and then told we would get a call back within 24 hours. If you are concerned for your pets health, just make sure you know they feel 24 hours for a response will suffice.
Thank you to the gentleman who I spoke to at the front desk for being kind via phone and in person upon checking in. Thank you to the techs who took our boy back and to the tech who kept us informed during our wait. Thank you to the doctor for being thorough in explaining what was happening with our boy and going over our options for his care. We appreciate all of you!
Had to take my Sassy Girl there a few weeks ago with a stroke in her spinal column and very understanding and caring. Doc told me what the deal was and what may happen. He was 100% spot on! Shes getting better every day! Thank you Sierra!!! 1
My cat recently had a small emergency, so I took him to the emergency center at Sierra Veterinary Specialists. They took him back right away and had a probable dx within an hour. Everyone we spoke to, from the front desk to the doctor(s), were very kind and accommodating. They kept us informed every step of the way. The prices were comparable to our normal vet, and were honestly a lot more reasonable than we anticipated. We were contacted with a firm dx the next morning after they received the labs. I would not hesitate to take any of my pets here again if necessary (but lets be honest, hopefully it wont be.) Thanks for taking great care of my very special feline!
Spent over 900 dollars to then be told when I called and asked for help we are just to busy to help you. Will not be returning.
I was referred here by my regular vet. Mine was an emergency on my sickly 16 year old cat. I was treated with simple kindness, patience and understanding and my cat was euthanized after tumors were felt by a physical exam. I dont know if the costs were out of line as this was my 1st experience at this. Both Dr. Mulchi and her assistant were competent and professional. Open during emergency hours and I am grateful for that, grateful for all of their help at such a difficult time for me. 5 stars and worth it.
We have been to Sierra Veterinary Specialists twice now. No dog mom ever wants to see their baby in this place, but the staff and the care make the stressful feeling almost go away. These people have saved my dog and taken his pain away twice. They truly care about your animal.People understand that sometimes when you go here, there’s a wait, but what people also don’t realize is that there could be a dying dog ahead of you that every doctor and nurse are working tirelessly to save. Even then, they will always make your baby comfortable and work just as hard to take care of your pet. Be patient people! They truly care. No matter what kind of emergency is going on, they will always have your babies back.
My senior dog was in a great deal of pain on Friday evening. I rushed him to SVS. He was crying so much, it was making me a wreck. The vet tech at the front desk asked if I wanted her to take him in back. I was grateful to not have to see & hear him in pain while we waited. Once called into a room, the vet tech who came to get his history was kind, thorough & compassionate. Dr. Phipps came in and told me he was in a lot of pain and they’d already given a shot for the pain. Again, I was grateful they didn’t allow him to sit and wait in pain. I was treated respectfully, professionally and empathetically. Their pricing for an emergency vet was more than fair. I will not hesitate to bring my fur baby back to SVS should the need arise.
Our precious fur-babie (13) passed away while traveling. We were 2,000 miles from home and absolutely heartbroken. It was in the middle of the night, I called in and told them the situation and that wed be arriving in about 6 hours. They were waiting and took great care of us. I believe Shannon helped us upon arrival and was absolutely amazing. So sympathetic and patient as I had a hard time controlling my emotions along with having no sleep. Our Lulu was our child. We have two Boston Terriers the same age and part of our family for 13 years. We had our baby cremated and they shipped her home for us. They even put her paw print and place her in a man-made wooden box. These folks are wonderful! Im so grateful to them.I recommend them 100%Prices were on average 150$ less then others in the area.
First thing i was told was i need to pay 500$ for emergency fees. Then given an estimate. And now im walking out with a lifeless baby.... thanks.
I had to take my beloved Tonka Bear to the ER just shy of 3 weeks ago. I was met with caring and compassionate techs and Dr. I wish I could remember names, but when you are saying your last goodbye, it’s a blur. They made it as easy as they could on us.The only thing I had an issue with, when we were waiting in test results to come back, I expected Tonka would be brought back to us to wait. However I did learn they had a critical come in, so I did understand. Just wish I could have been with him those last minutes. We made the decision to help him cross the rainbow bridge that night, with care and understanding from the staff, they helped us through it. I would highly recommend this ER, I hope you never need it, but if you do, they are wonderful
Our old cat got sick and they had been good for previous emergency visits but the emergency room was closed! For Presidents Day and didnt open until a day later! What kind of emergency vet is closed for a holiday and for a day after at least?? It was just Presidents Day too
Ive had to take my pomeranian there 3 different times. They have always done a wonderful job A bit expensive, but well worth it.
Last night the rescues were notified of a stray cat that was found on deaths door. Animal Control was closed, so the cat was brought down to SVS. When called, SVS said they would not help and put the cat down or treat and transfer to county. They told us just to let it stuffer until morning and that it wasnt their issue because if they helped all the stray injured animals they would go broke. We drove over to the other emergency center, and they gladly took the cat and put it out of its misery. He was laying there with labored breathing clearly struggling, its insane that they turned us away.
Thankful that they were open on a Sunday. However we felt that they absolutely were trying to do unnecessary tests to rack up our bill.It started with a simple X-ray to make sure the pet was okay - then before you know it they wanted to do an EKG, diabetes testing, more xrays the next day, hold the animal for longer days and more. Took the pet home and they are fine. Asked around and our friends who had a similar issue with their pet paid 1/2 the cost at a normal vet. So again were thankful there was an emergency facility available but they absolutely overcharge.
The receptionist who answered the phone was absolutely rude and uncaring of my concerns.
I gave a 1 star for the overall management of this facility SVS. My little Dog was severely injured by a car? Not knowing his injuries? I took him to SVS only Veterinarian open. The staff immediately responded on my arrival parking in lot. One staff member scooped up Buddy in a towel. The other employee took my information down. Then advised me they required $500 cash deposit Debit or Credit in advance payment to have Buddy seen. I gave my debit card. After over 2 hours sitting in the parking lot due to Covid restrictions I asked one of the workers running in and out of building to check in on Buddy for me? Few minutes later my phone rang it was the doctor. She advised me of his condition that was I believed to be true? I then asked before I knew any amount of cost for treatment? Sounds very bad for buddy some sort of brain damage? Talked about putting Buddy down. But before I wanted to see him and hold him my little Buddy for 10 years. I know my dog i could get a better idea of his condition. They brought Buddy into me as I sat with him i seen somewhat the Doctors evaluation? Then I seen Buddy was responding even in the worst case scenario he could possibly be in?I asked the Doctor if I could pay for him overnight to have a better evaluation? The Doctor answered no! All my treatment advised or nothing?Long story short I took Buddy out of there and took care of him myself let him sleep then as he started getting up i made sure he was walked and taken care ❤ of myself no better in some situations than being home?He has made almost full recovery. When I got back to California seen his own Veterinarian I was advised his tendons and muscles need to heal takes lot longer 3 months at the least. Doctor said Buddy is fineI believe the $4500 dollar treatment plan that the Doctor ordered was incorrect diagnosis. The money was sure important?I will be asking for a refund of a fair value for a misdiagnosed that was givin i almost put my dog down but when I seen him and his actions I knew he was not that bad injured?
Without writing a novel. They pretty much saved my dogs life. No joke, my chihuahua was torn apart by a loose German Shepherd. Multiple people thought he wasnt going to make it. He was in a chest cast for a long time, and had several broken ribs. They also gave great follow-up care. The staff is friendly, and caring. You know from the moment you walk in, that they work there because they love animals. So, a couple of years later, and my dog isnt shaped quite the same, but hes still here, and still has his old spunk. Im incredibly grateful.
Probably being generous with 3 stars. But the staff were nice. The facility was clean. They allowed both my husband and myself in with our pet which was super nice. But it was an upsetting visit. The vet was blunt which was o.k. We were told she was paralyzed, would never walk again. Surgery wasnt an option, less than 5% chance it would help. Our choice was deal with it or euthanizing her. The fact that she said if you would have brought her in on Friday (this was Sunday) we might have been able to help, was not o.k. We took our pet to a local emergency vet on Friday who x-rayed and treated her explained what was going on and said he felt the medication would help her condition without surgery. Just because we didnt take her to this facility first does not mean we did the wrong thing. Then we were told a surgeon would call us to discuss our pets case. NO CALL! Whether he/she didnt get the message or just decided not to call, its not acceptable. Bottom line is we knew our dog. We knew her spirit. We decided not to give up on our feisty 3 year old. She is now receiving great, positive care. No promises of course. But the probability of her walking and enjoying life is real. She will never be 100%. But she can live a happy life.
The Sierra Veterinary Specialists Hospital exceeded every expectation I had when I brought in my very ill cat who was in renal failure. Their communication, caring, and professional competency is beyond anything I had experienced before. I am extremely grateful for their skill and for saving my fur babys life. This is a real animal hospital with state-of-the-art equipment and extremely talented doctors, nurses, and specialists.
We took our kitty here after our family vet had decided there was nothing more they could do for him. Our family vet suggested our kitty either go through a reconstructive surgery or we discuss euthanasia. The team at Sierra Veterinary Specialists were compassionate and quick to act. Though we had to wait a few days for a surgeon to come in (labor day weekend, terrible timing lol), once Dr. MacLellan reviewed our kittys case, he determined surgery was too radical and not the best first option. After prescribing some medications and at-home changes, our kitty is doing SO much better. It would not have been difficult to take our money and perform the surgery. We were already prepared to do so, and as we are not vets, we had no option but to trust the information given to us. Instead, they chose to do what was truly best for our kitty. The staff has continued to advise us of post visit concerns and has always done so with kindness and patience. Thank you to Sierra Veterinary Specialists. I wish you could be our family vet! 💜
Worst awful vet I have EVER SEEN. They do not help you at all.
Front desk and doctors are very nice . However, This License vet tech name CATHY/KATHY is very rude. Since the manager never called me about my complaint to her, I will write a review. CATHY/KATHY YOU ARE VERY RUDE, YOU DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR PATIENTS. YOU DONT LISTEN, YOU DONT HAVE COMPASSION AND EMPATHY . AGAIN YOU ARE VERY RUDE.CATHY/KATHY you dont even deserve to work with animals.
It all about the money I did not spend hundreds so when I asked just for meds it was No the Doctor did fill comfortable or can not get it only here? while my dog stuffer pay Nine hundred or more or we will not care, sad
I didnt realize I never reviewed this great place so I am now. 2 years ago my golden retriever Male had a cyst in his throat. This is my service dog, my world. We got him there and they understood, not only my dogs needs but my needs of having a service animal. They were able to care for him properly, quickly and send him home with great after care. Ive since taken Copper back for his ears. And again they were great. I know this to because Copper isnt apprehensive when he went in, he was happy to see them and even though hed only been there once before a couple of the staff remembered him. Top notch care!
The staff there is so caring an amazing
The care itself was great. My complaint is with the staff member wearing a mask below their chin. Since the establishment asks that clients wear masks, I was really surprised to see staff not required to do the same. With the number of covid cases the in Washoe surging, I felt very uncomfortable with the lax COVID standards at a medical establishment. Would definitely think twice about returning, even though the care was compassionate and thorough.
We took our cat in because she hadn’t been eating. We were very impressed with the facility, the staff and Dr. Schneider. Dr. Schneider was great with our rather aggressive cat. She gave us great information on how to entice her to eat and gave her shots that have helped her. Definitely a great place to take you beloved pet.
I took my female Corgi in to Sierra Veterinary emergency services on a Saturday afternoon. I had taken her into my veterinarian 10 days before that and found out she was suffering from bladder stones. The plan was to treat them with a prescription diet to dissolve the stones. Long story short, she tried to pass a stone and became completely obstructed. She was in bad shape, couldnt urinate even a drop. The vet, Dr. Phipps took her back for an ultra sound and immediately emptied her bladder because it was so full it was close to rupturing. The only resolution was surgery. She stayed at the hospital that night and was operated on the next morning by Dr. Pelsue. They kept in constant contact with me, during surgery they found out she wasnt spayed as I had been told by the previous owner.Mid surgery, I received a call from a vet tech that she was not spayed as I was told by the previous owner, but since they had her open. It would be free of charge to include the spay, which, of course, I did. They kept her that night and I picked up a new dog the next morning. She is doing so well. Im awaiting lab results so we can narrow down a diet to avoid a recurrence. Everyone was amazing. They saved my girl. She would not be alive today. Everyone was so forthcoming and responsive. My girl is going to be OK, and Im eternally grateful to the doctors for saving her life.
I understand EMERGENCY but sitting in this cold room almost 3 hours now and NO ONE has even checked to see if were freezing to death in here...which my dog and I both are. If I had another choice wed be out of here.Update: Had to bring my baby in...now was told would be about an hour for results of blood and x-rays...that was again 3 HOURS NOW...so glad this will be my last FORCED visit here. Place really sucks
My poor kitty cat & I spent 7-1/2 hrs in this place yesterday & spent $871 but nothing improved. My kitty is still sick. I cannot believe the terrible service. Typical Reno do-nothing. At 9pm 6/19/20, my kitty cat is dead. So thanks for allowing me to pay you clowns $871 to kill my kitty cat.
Waitlng for over an hour. No one came to look at my dog. They just put you in a room and forget about you. They dont forget about you when they give you the bill. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They need to close it up and let Reno make it a homeless shelter for all the bums
We unfortunately had to bring our dog here last night. She was fine all morning and suddenly around 4pm she started breathing weird and wasn’t getting up. We got there and the front desk staff was very nice and got us into a room right away. The problem I had while here was the veterinary technician. She came and took her temperature and in a very demeaning way said “this temperature is critical. I need to take her back right away.” Next time be a little a little more compassionate and don’t make the pet owner feel like it’s their fault. The vet came in and talked to us and was so so nice! I can’t thank her enough for the care she gave even though it was a short amount of time. The vet tech came back in with an estimate and just the whole time her attitude said “you people are terrible pet parents.” Please be more compassionate. I used my own judgement and the vet said I couldn’t have done anything different. This was a sudden illness. We decided what was best for our dog and we were moved to the comfort room. The tech brought our dog in and still had a attitude that made us feel like this was our fault. No one should go to the emergency vet and feel that way.The two stars are for the vet (Dr. Schneider) and the front desk. They were super nice and accommodating.
Thank you to the SVS doctors, nurses and staff who made the last few months of Magics life even possible, giving me precious time to be with him, care for him and process his eventual transition, as his kidney disease progressed. The professional care, kindness and responsiveness of this pet hospital is impressive, including the thoughtful card they sent. I miss Magic everyday, but it would have much worse had I not had those last 3 months SVS made possible. :)
Brought pet in today 12/20 9:30 am, told the front desk, he was bleeding from the ear, 45 min. Later still no tech. Came out, left & went to other emerg. Clinic, they took him in imed.
We took out cat Salem hear with a very bad cold. They took great care of her and the prices were way more reasonable then I thought they would be.
We have 4 cats and two dogs. Two with special needs that have required multiple visits to Er hospital. The technicians & Dr. are Compassionate, commutative and responsive.. both Frank & Rebel express kitty & doggy love to all Sierra Vet Specialists
If I had left my animal here he would have died. Awful place.
Nothing can prepare you to walk in thinking your dog has a stomach bug or obstruction, and walking out with just his collar and leash. The staff did an amazing job of delivering the news to us that geddy would not be coming home with us. We were not rushed into anything, and we got to stay with him until his last breath. I am so glad that there are people this compassionate out there who are able to do this job, I can’t even imagine. I would recommend them to anyone ❤️
I live two hours from Reno in a rural town and called asking what the care offered by the vets here would be versus what my vet had already told me. Denise, the receptionist I assume, on the phone was rude and dismissive and kept telling me to ask my family vet to do more and that the treatment they already offered was not going to “cure” parvovirus but also told me multiple times “I’m not a vet” and “you can come in I guess if you really want to drive all this way.” Pretty terrible experience when you’re trying to figure out the best care for your dying puppy.
The entire staff was helpful and compassionate. They gave us plenty of time to say goodbye to our cat. Their prices were also reasonable. I reccomend them for all your veterinary needs
I am so impressed with the staff and doctors at Sierra Veterinary Specialists. My golden retriever Micah suddenly was unable to walk and our thought was he had either had a stroke, or worse case, broken his back. Thank goodness for their 24 hour clinic. They were so kind and caring, exceptional care and they determined he had developed a form of vertigo, which apparently is common in “elderly” pets. Thank goodness they knew what they were dealing with. Now, to break it to Micah that at 13 years he is considered “elderly”.Long story short, in the event of emergency, this is the place to go. And the fees were very reasonable!
My dog got a bone stuck around her mouth/ jaw. They took her back right away and returned her to us five minutes later...bone free! They also charged us a lot less than I expected for a 10p.m. Friday night visit. Everyone was courteous and professional. I would definitely recommend taking your pet here if they require immediate care.
Our dog was treated so well by everyone here. We can’t say enough good things about everyone at SVS. Dr Kidd is very smart and is just wonderful. We never felt rushed, everyone took time to answer all of our questions, explore all options and treated our dog like the special boy that he is. The staff made accommodations for us to be able to remain with our dog while we waited for him to go into surgery, since we had driven 2 hours to the clinic from our home. We are so grateful for what everyone at SVS did. Truly outstanding veterinary care and genuinely caring people. I am a registered nurse and I wish I could be a nurse at SVS so that I could work with this exceptional group of people. The facility is clean, modern and it feels like walking into an actual hospital for pets because...it is. All of the sweet extra touches in the rooms to help nervous pets and humans feel more comfortable are nice as well.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Always a sad time when having to say goodby to your little fury ones but my experience here was handled very well. Considering having to tell someone their baby is really sick. Probably got them on a good time everything was handled very fast and althouogh i couldnt see a clear path for my little dog as a dog over 13 to 14. To go further with treatment. Would have just been maintaining quality of life at best and so it was time. Thank you Sierra veterinary for helping me make this transition. Wish i had money to burn if that where the case i would have kept you busy saving her if it would be quality of life but i appreciate the compasion
We had to rush our dog in today with a rattlesnake bite to his face. The staff and the Doctor were all VERY helpful, kind and reassuring. They laid out all of the treatment options and were very easy to work with.If I could tack on a couple more stars, I would!P.S. Our dog is home resting comfortably with a very good prognosis.Sean & Denise
A great experience, start to finish, on an otherwise terrible day. Unfortunately my dog was injured and had to be seen immediately at SVS on a Sunday morning. The front office staff was cheery, calm and efficient despite being EXTREMELY busy . Dr. Miller was kind and gentle with my dog who was in pain, and she was supportive and informative to me. I have no doubt my pup received the best care possible while she was hospitalized there. Thank you SVS for helping my little family through this day!
This place is SO unprofessional! The lady at the front desk with the red hair was not friendly at all. She told us she would come outside to grab the paperwork and we waited for an hour and watched 6 dogs leave and the parking lot was almost empty. She never once bothered to come outside and help us. I will never come back nor recommend this place to anyone. It should never take that long for someone to even talk to me. RIDICULOUS.
Save your money go somewhere else will the actually help your dog, these people are to focused on making money rather than having a happy and healthy pet at the end of the day. They accused my daughter of property damage and ask her for money to pay for what she didnt do they continued to call the police and bring this to another level and would refuse to give her dogs ashes up it is unprofessional and disgusting.
I didnt know what was wrong with my puppy. The staff was kind and knowledgeable, answered all my questions. They are reasonable for an emergency vet clinic. I knew when I took him in, it wouldnt be cheap but I feel I got my moneys worth, especially since it was the middle of the night! While I hope I never have another emergency again, I wont hesitate to return here if I do. Great job! Thanks!
We made a trip to Sierra Veterinary Specialists early on a Sunday morning. Our dog had not been feeling well for a couple of days and by Sunday she could barely get up, wouldn’t eat and had tremors. From the moment we walked in our dog was given excellent care, from the receptionist, triage, veterinary assistant to Dr. Suzanne Miller, the veterinarian. Dr. Miller examined our girl and gave us all the care options. She did not pressure us into the most expensive option and did not make us feel like terrible people for choosing the medication, rest and wait and see choice. Our bill was much less than expected given it was emergency care. I highly recommend Sierra Veterinary Specialists! We cannot say enough good things about them.Thank you!
My English Bulldog was treated like family at this place. They are incredible. Please dont go anywhere else for 24 hour emergency care for your pet.
I have to say the staff was very compassionate but my experience was not very good. Called before hand (had to drive and hour and half) to make sure we could get right in. Got there and they came out to carry my dog inside (she could not walk) they took her to check her vitals and i gave the receptionist the information. They placed me in a room and said they would bring my dog to me in a few moments, 45 minutes later and a reminder they brought her to me and said she was stable and the wait time would be about 2 to 3 hours. Waited 4 hrs before i was acknowleged and another hour and half before the tech came in to see what the problem was ( very apologetic about how long the wait). when they reallized that she could not walk AT ALL.. When examined we all realized that nothing could be done and would have to be put to sleep (which I knew on the long drive there). They let me spend some time with her alone (extremely emotional time) then the time came to let her go. After they took her the Dr came back in and told me she would have to be tested for rabies because she broke the skin on my finger when i had my finger in her mouth for them to check her gums when we came in the door. Said if that was reported license could be lost. (ok, I get it). Waited a week and called, they were very busy and the receptionist stated they had gotten the results and were negative. (I already knew that). Was told it would be about a week and i could get her cremation remains. It was a week just for the rabies results then they told me another week for the remains. One week and two days later (im ok with) but did not call to let me know the remains were ready. This whole ordeal for me has been lack of communication. Dont get me wrong, they were very compassionate and caring but very upset about no communication with all of the emotional issues i had to deal with.
Sierra Vet Specialists are amazing! Dont hesitate to take your pet there. The care is excellent and the building is new & immaculate. Everyone was wonderful in helping when we arrived with our 7 year-old Yorkie who was suffering from a severe collapsed trachea. I called ahead and upon arrival he was swooped from my arms immediately treated. I was given constant updates & always felt confident he was getting the best care. I am beyond grateful for the quick interventions provided by Dr. Henriod & the continued evaluation and care from Dr. Miller as well as the gentle care from all the nurses for this uber-anxious Yorkie. We are blessed he was able to be discharged home after two days& discharge instructions from Bryan were very thorough...thank you! As a side note, the cost was also less than we thought it would be.Thanks again everyone!!
I did not go to this office but I did call today. The women who answered the phone was knowledgeable and friendly. She answered my questions and asked me if there was anything else she could do. Told me if I felt I needed to I could bring in my fur baby. My dog ripped off her nail and I was scared it was serious. I have never had this happen to any of my dogs before and the blood freaked me out. She made me feel calm and confident in what to do. I appreciate the help and if I need to go to a ER vet this will be the one for me.
I was so amazed at how far above and beyond everyone went. We did not have cash up front in our emergency situation, but they let us get it while helping and offered solutions to help. They saved all but one of our enormous litter by acting fast. THEY SHOWED SO MUCH LOVE AND KINDNESS TO US AND OUR FUR FAMILY. THE BEST
This is one of the best vets Ive been to took my baby there today and they were amazing at finding what was wrong and being so gentle and loving to him. Well recommend to anyone to go
Im so happy that I chose Sierra Veterinary Specialists when my cat had a ruptured abscess after my Vets normal hours. They provide emergency services so I wasnt expecting to be in and out quickly; the wait was reasonable and comfortable. Dr. Miller and the staff were exceptional. They even gave me a follow up call to see how my cat was doing and he healed so quickly. I compared charges with other after hours emergency vet services and am confident that they are the most reasonably priced in the Reno area. I have recommended Sierra Veterinary Specialists to several friends already.
If I could give them 10 stars I would. My cat Turtle had a bad abscess from what appeared to be a cat bite.. I was fairly emotional as she is one of my 3 girls that have traveled in my RV with me for 4 years. The service care and most of all true support will be remembered by Turtle and I for ever.. thank you 🐹
Are you joking? No stars if possible. While I was in my waiting room I listened to the vet literally convince an elderly couple next to me to put their dog down because she had a mass on her spleen and the vet didn’t want to investigate it. She said verbatim “our options are to explore the mass and to the biopsy but I can’t guarantee that would improve her quality of life, or you guys make the other decision” are you serious? I wanted to walk into their room and tell the couple to leave and I will help them find a vet who actually cares about their animal and WANTS TO SAVE THEIR LIFE.
Terrible communication. I was delivering a friends dog. Friend was out of town and had called you at my recommendation. He gave his details and payment information to Denise, who did not enter the information into your system. I called to confirm that you had the information prior to bringing the dog and was told you did not have any record of the owners information. An hour later you called me back and said to bring the dog in you found the payment information.I arrived and the female at the front desk informed me that I could not leave the dog for treatment and pick her up when you were finished, company policy. I told her I would return in 20 minutes and due to your repeated errors and delays my schedule no longer afforded me the time to wait. She again informed me that coming back in 20 minutes was unacceptable and it was my problem, due to your company policy.Whats I find unacceptable is your staffs poor attention to detail and inflexibility in light of the dogs medical condition and repeatedly inconveniencing me. Your company policy is unacceptable. We found efficient service elsewhere. You deserve 1 star for being rigid and disorganized.
Sierra Vet saved our little girls arm!! We adopted our puppy Luna not made aware that she had a dislocated shoulder that had healed incorrectly. The shelter we got her from wanted to amputate when we addressed the issue with them. With the help of Kristi, the amazing surgeons, staff members they were able to reconstruct Luna’s arm. After almost 4 months of recovery Luna is fully healed and happier than ever!
It was a sad day for my family...we have lost our best friend of just shy of 11 yrs today...I cannot thank your WONDERFUL caring staff enough!!!! Especially the gal that took my info..and brought a book called Dog Heaven to me when my Mom and I were outside...I cannot express how wonderful and thoughtful that was...Thank you ladies for being so caring to our aching hearts...I could not have asked for a better experience....Thank you
Had to put our 17 year old fur baby to sleep. One of the hardest thing we had to do, to give him the respect he was due. This place put my husband at ease, loving setting instead of the metal slab at cold dont care, give you a shot vets.THANK YOU FOR THE DIGNITY!
Had to bring in our Frenchie, Tili, in for a fight that ended in a severe eye injury for her. This pup is my baby. Dr. Henriod told us there was nothing to be done to save the eye, and she would need to have it removed. I am very particular in who provides care to Tili. I was told I could wait for our normal vet to see her, or Dr. Henriod would perform it herself. I felt very confident in the Drs. skills. She was friendly, open, honest about her time availability and answered any and all questions. We decided to go ahead with the surgery there. Dr. Henriod called me after the surgery was completed, as I requested. It did not matter that it was before dawn, she was happy to do it. The entire clinic is professional and caring. Making sure I had the proper paperwork to turn in to our pet insurance company. Hopefully we do not have a need for their services in the future, but if we do, this will be our stop.
