We took the Snowmobile tour. I’m 64 and enjoyed the hell out of it. So much FUN! We were picked up at the casino and driven an hour to the tour starting point. Tour lasted about 2 1/2 hours. They also provided snacks & beverages for the trip back to hotel. The staff was courteous. Our tour guide was patient with the first-timers, but was very skilled & non-beginners would find it challenging. He was friendly & generous with his smile. I would so recommend this trip.
Sierra Adventures is supposed to be a winter / snow activity adventuring co but I think the whole business may be a scam. We (me + 2 friends) never got to use their service while we were on vacation in Reno even though I was able to pay the deposit of $20 online with a confirmation. When I initially tried to contact them via phone & email that same day when I got the confirmation, I couldnt get ahold of anyone. So we drove/walked around looking for it for awhile at the address listed & couldnt find any building on N Sierra St with the address # 11. Im not sure it even exists. Our vacation ended and I went home.. I continued to try and reach them with multiple calls (no voicemail box) and e-mails. FINALLY weeks later, a very rude man by the name of Jim told me he would provide a refund (after he aggressively argued with me about it) in a WEEK because they were so busy.It is August of 2021 and I never got my refund.Read the other reviews carefully. I dont recommend this place. Its actually amazing they are still in business......
Beware! Hostile treatment by Jim. At first contact with him over the phone, he seemed angry and disinterested in helping us. In person was shocking. We were hoping to enjoy a day of family tubing that was filled with joy and good memories. Jim followed my family along the river while riding a bike screaming at everyone…telling them to get back in their tubes or he’ll call the police. The water was shallow and the rafts weren’t moving. Some family members gathered near the shore to wait on the family member who was walking dragging the tube. We were told to take our time and enjoy, but Jim was yelling that we had spent 1 hour in the water (it was more like 45 minutes). When my young adult daughter got out of the water, Jim ripped the raft from her hands and dumped out the contents then told her that she has a sorry life! What!!! Who does this?! There is something seriously wrong with him and we hope that he will get help. He should not be in a customer service role. This was not a fun family memory at all! We wasted our time and money.
Shout out to Tim. Great experience, awesome new rafts!
So I was in Tahoe for 5 days. Booked a dog sledding tour which allowed me to pick that day or the next that I wanted to do a tour. Had to pay $40 up front via pay pal to reserve . We did not get a call until the second day in late afternoon . Owner was rude saying we would just get a voucher that is good up to next year. This is a scam artist ! I was told he would refund my $40. He did not . He first was arguing saying it would just be a voucher as if we live here in Tahoe. He also argued saying we should have booked 7 days in advance. If that was the case why did it allow me to pick the dates I chose . Also if it was a professional business they would have contacted me immediatly to let me know to give me an option for my money back or another adventure . They are very hard to reach over the phone . I left several voicemails to get any type of information. Do not book here!
I called and emailed for information on a particular tour. It took several days to get a response, ok, fine, not a big deal. But the guy I spoke with, Jim? Was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He had a huge attitude, was condescending and I had a difficult time getting information. If I am going to entertain paying over 600 dollars for less than an hour long experience, I fully expect much better customer service, ample details of what I am getting for the money and some sort of obvious appreciation for possible future business support. Maybe I am the crazy one. I will not do business with this company after my one and only phone call. My money is better spent elsewhere.
WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY. They took my money and we never got to use their service while we were in Reno. After MULTIPLE calls and voicemails left a very rude man told me he would provide a refund (after he argued with me about it) in a WEEK because they were so busyIts been a month and a half and NO refund. Ive emailed them multiple times and can no longer leave them a voicemail (THEY NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONE) bc their inbox is full.I think this business is a scam and I wouldnt recommend giving them your money
Overall, a great experience. There were some hiccups in contact and being able to discuss options for tours and rentals but once that was completed everything went better than we could have hoped. Our guide Tim was friendly and professional with an eye on safety that was reassuring. We got a briefing on kayaking and safety before getting in the water, instructions on the water on techniques and routing through rapids, and periodic check ins and reassurance throughout the tour. My daughter and I had a great time and I recommend this company to any visitors to Reno with the caveat that you leave plenty of time to make contact with them prior to arrival in town as apparently they dont have a dedicated and separate shop staff and guide staff . This results in lag time for communication when the guides are out.
Worst play ever don’t ever go here he threw my stuff he is the worst guy ever do not go there!!!
We were 15 min early for our 10:00 appt as we were told an upon arrival at 9:45 they told us wed be going at 11 and were told by the owner oh well. We had a group of 4 for the tubing. At 11 they took us to our drop off point. I asked how long it takes to get to the destination and was told 2hrs. We were given the most rancid smelling life vests and helmets which mine had a big break in the back. We arrived back with tubes n equipment at the 2hr mark to not have anyone there for 45minutes. We couldnt just leave the stuff unattended as they take your debit card, not just the number but your card and said wed be charged for any missing equipment....$200+ for a tube. One of the most unprofessional businesses Ive ever dealt with. The tubing was fun, but next time Ill drive to Tahoe City for a good experience all the way around
Had a great time today doing a last minute kayak trip. Had a group of six.....three experienced and three not. They made sure everyone was comfortable with equipment and Tim (our guide) stayed with us the whole time and showed us the best lines in the river.Got to hang out with Tim and the owner after the trip...and they were genuinely some cool dudes to hang with. The river isn’t crazy....but a good relaxing ride with some good rapids at the end.Looking forward to coming back and doing the ATV and clay shooting trip. Would recommend.
We had a great time. Virginia City is very interesting wood side walks very old buildings so much more to see. Nice ride to Lake Tahoe with great views got time to get out and take pictures l definitely recommended. 👍
Horribly disorganized. Horrible communication. No emails or any confirmations and very unprofessional. Was charged a “booking fee” for a snowmobiling tour that could very easily had been done directly through the tour agency itself than through Sierra Adventures. My understanding is that they are a “platform” that helps the other excursion agencies in the area. Please do your research and go through an agency and not this booking platform. Extremely confusing, unprofessional, and uninformative. What a waste of my time and money.
Overall, great experience. Communications are the lack of 5 star here. Talk to Tim, not Jim. Haha
Just tried to rent a raft and was told they only did guided tours. My fiancé was told it would cost $129 for the private guided tour, when I called back to confirm the details I was told it would be $149!! The guy I talked to was also completely rude and unaccommodating. Do not give them your business!! Just go to Walmart to buy tubes!
Short review: unprofessional, rude, and offensive. Our extended family of 20 went tubing down the Truckee river. Owner seemed put out by us being there. Inconsistent directions on what to do when there. One staff member said to do one thing then other scolded us for doing it. Took 80 minutes from our arrival to get on water for our 2.5 hour float that lasted 65 minutes. They required our children to go in rafts. One of the guides, Tim, before the last rapid called two of our kids (ages 8 and 9) whiners and one a cry baby. This pushed our daughter to cry and be afraid of experience. This was the only company in area we found that offers rafting. That said, we would opt to go rafting instead of tubing in future given our experience.
We had a wonderful experience and can not wait to come back. Would recommend for anyone that would like a little adventure in their trip to Reno/Lake Tahoe
First I will do the bad stuff and then I will list the good stuff. We had registered for a tubing trip down the Truckee with my best friend from Auburn area. My oldest and her oldest were both terribly ill and unable to attend. We had made advance reservations because when we tried a few weeks prior without reservations, they couldnt accommodate us, after we had both drove over 75 + miles to be there. So, the company promised us an awesome day with snacks and such when we came back. Needless to say, no snacks, no goodies. That was if you wanted to pay extra and they didnt remember and didnt care to think the customer is always right. Then we had made reservations for 8 people, but 2 were sick. They said we had to pay for the 2 that were sick and they would be gracious enough to give us gift certificates for the two girls to use when they were feeling better. It was better than nothing. They make you wear water shoes, not flip flops, which I was unaware of. They need to be explicit about what should be worn on their site. They have a bucket there, but there are a bunch of old mismatched ones. I ended up just ignoring them and they never said anything. Now after this we had a GREAT TIME!!!!! This is one of the most FUN and RELAXING things to do on the Truckee River. We try to do it at least once a year now. There is a childrens book I read to my kids and it said, How wonderous it is to float! That sure is true. They rent kayaks, huge inner tubes, etc. And if you have your own tubes, for a smaller fee they will drive you up to the spots on the river that it is easy to enter and you can float back to your car. I would HIGHLY recommend this to all families at least once. I am disabled and I can still take part. My family helps and it makes me feel whole again. The activity itself, I give 5 stars. It is the company that I a giving the 3 stars too... They had the opportunity to make it a better experience. They knew the plight we had with our children being sick. It was more about the money than the customer and in the end that means loss of customers, loss of money in the long run.
My BF and I wanted to float down the Truckee River on super late notice. Jim made accommodations for us and lent us river shoes since we had only brought flip flops. I could tell that he and his employee cared about our safety and that we had a good experience. The business location is very convenient -right on the riverwalk! Sweet people. Thanks!
This was the best and most pleasant experience Ive ever had. JIM, thank you so much for making this excursion so special for my family. They had nothing but nice things to say about their time with the tour guide and their ATV/Clay Pigeon Shooting excursion. They are even planning on having a retreat in Reno so they can have the rest of their team enjoy your services!!!!! AMAZING!!!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!
Awesome experience snowmobiling from start to finish. If ever in Reno, dont hesitate to book your snowmobiling adventure. We were picked up in a limo with music, tv, snacks & drinks and taken to a very remote serene beautiful site to enjoy snowmobiling. Id never done it before but no worries, they let me do a couple of little loops to get acquainted and then we were off. The mountains and frozen over lake were gorgeous. We even saw a fox trotting through some woods. Jim made sure we had an awesome experience. He put us in the care of Ken at the site to snowmobile. Ken was also a pleasure. Afterwards we rode back in the limo with more snacks and drinks to our hotel. It was a fantastic day. One of the highlights of our first Reno visit. Thank you Sierra Adventures.
I thoroughly enjoyed the snow shoeing experience. Jim is an awesome guy. When we encountered a bear in the woods, Jim wrestled the beast to the ground and they started to frolic in the snow; it was a female bear. Jim has quite a reputation in this neck of the woods. Highly recommended!
DO NOT PAY THIS BUSINESS ANYTHING! I would not even bother with a star for this outfit. We inquired about simple tube rental in the morning on the day we wanted to use them. They took our credit card to hold them. They didnt share that they were charging us with no refund, as it says on their web site (later explained and never shared at the time of booking) all cancellations must be made in writing and be submitted 48 hours ahead of time. They encouraged us to reserve the tubes with out sharing the obligation. When I called to inform them that my niece had become very ill and we couldnt tube the river, their reply was a very curt, well, I already got them out! After I called them back asking about the charge to our card and asked if we could get our money back, they said its just like renting a jet-ski. Im not sure what planet these guys are from but it is a planet that doesnt include graciousness, understanding, a little humility and CUSTOMER SERVICE. Go to Walmart, 10 min. down the road, buy some tubes from people who appreciate customers and AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS!!!
My wife and I wanted to snowmobile while in Reno. We looked at our choices and decided on this outfit run by Jim Bell. Our decision and service received was top notch... No regrets
I booked a sleigh ride with Jim at Sierra Adventures last Christmas. Please DO NOT waste your time or money with this outfit. I was misinformed about snow levels even after several phone calls and discussions. It cost me 3 times as much going through Sierra Adventures as it would have if I had booked directly with the sleigh company. If you want to go on a sleigh ride, call Borges Family Sleigh Rides. They are terrific and very honest! My family of four drove an hour from our lodge with a rude driver in a dirty limo only to be dragged around a parking lot. No dashing through the snow for us! I have never posted a negative review before but I would hate for anyone else to be taken by this guy.
What in the world is this business thinking. Rude, unprofessional and all should read the reviews and not do any business with these jerks. Stopped by to rent several tubes for a few hours. Rude man asked “ did we not see his sign on the front door” apparently you need to make reservations ahead of time. There was no need to respond to customers in this manner. We went to CVS bought some tubes and had a wonderful time. Do not give these people a dime
Terrible customer service. Dont spend a dime here
Awesome!! Exactly what the guide told us to expect. Three miles of river controlled ride on a floating Inner tube. Just remember your water shoes and enjoy the ride!
I dont know how they average even 3 stars. I went with them on 2 occasions. The first was cool but the guide was a dick (an older guy). The second trip I nearly drowned learning the ropes with a shorty river kayak with an instructor who was too busy to come help me. I was pissed. Same old dude too.
I had an awesome time! The people working were complete sweethearts! The water level were ideal, however, between the natural rapids and kayak drops downtown, it was a blast! Definitely recommend!
The shop owner is a jerk. Not personal. Not helpful at all. I would suggest going and buying your own rubes and planning your own trip. Using Google maps. You 2ould have a better experience all the way around. Do not give rude people your business.
Very nice first rafting experience. Mostly gentle with a couple of rapids. I was a little old and a little too short to be useful in carrying the raft from the parking area to the river. And I admit it would have been too much for me. Sitting up so high on the raft, when we hit the minor rapids, I felt like I was about to fall iff. That was a bit scarry. The rest was wonderful.
Husband and I had a fantastic time. The guide was great and totally made the experience.
Friendly, knowledgable guides. Beautiful trip down the river.
Alex was really helpful & patient with us when we want the big tubs! I so appreciate his positive vibes!
Called January 15 to get treasure hunt pricing, called back march 10 to get a little more info. On March 15 after I had my group put together, I called back & gave him how many ppl I had, which treasure hunt I wanted to do & some ideas I wanted to work into it, the guy said no problem & that hed start working on it & call me back w the final pricing & details. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, I call only to find out that he apparently hasnt even started it (barely remembered my name or that he was even putting it together), said hed call me back the next day, 3 days later, I still havent received a phone call back. What should have been a cute bday surprise & something none of us have done before, I now have less than 2 weeks come up w a whole new game plan. I wouldnt personally suggest using this Co....
Sierra Adventures - finding you the most exciting events in the Truckee Meadow area
These are some very angry, unhappy people. I would not go across the street with these people. Go ahead and try them yourself, you will see what I mean.
Great tour guides, easy and fun!
I have been here twice in the past two months and both times had a horrible experience. The first time I hired a couple of bikes and the attendant tried to charge me $80 for 2 hours. I had to point out that thats not their advertised price and only then he charged the correct amount of $40. The second time I wanted to rent tubes, and the attendant was so rude, I ended up walking out.
Absolutely the worst customer service experience I have ever had anywhere in town.
Great tour and guides!!
