My 2001 KitchenAid Superba stopped cooling while i was out of town - YUK! Called another service company. They were there 1st thing in the morning and told me my main control board was out and would be $700 for the part and $425 for the labor and they could have it done in a week. The price seemed high for a circuit board and the labor charge surprised me given how fast the technician accessed and pulled out the bad part. When I questioned his price, he said the part was out of production and it would cost more to hunt one down. I googled the part found out that indeed it wasnt in production, but that it could easily be serviced by a circuit board company for only $150. Add a reasonable labor charge to that and I came up with about a $400 service estimate - it didnt jive. Besides the fact that I didnt have $1200 to fix my fridge, I felt like I was being taken advantage of, so I called another company - they called me back 2 days later saying they couldnt get the part at all. I called AJs and Jaimie answered the phone, had the part I described on his truck that had already been refurbished, would be there that afternoon to swap his for mine and would send mine in for refurbishing. $420 and my fridge is up and running again - he even took a few extra minutes to clean my furnace filter, because I didnt know how. Thank you universe for connecting me with AJs and brilliant that he thinks to do this for common parts!
They never called back
