We had our sewing machine cleaned and adjusted last year. They were extremely nice folk and did a great job. Our sewing machine works better now than when it was new.

They did a great job for a good price in a reasonable time frame. Great to support local businesses. Cash/checks only, which is fine.

When I called to get instructions for a potential repair, Mrs Johnson was kind enough to explain that it was a simple mistake that I had made and how I could fix it myself. What a wonderfully helpful honest business.

I had been told by another sewing machine repair business that my machine could not be fixed, and I needed to spend several hundreds for a new machine. I heard about Archie Johnson and Sons, called them, they examined my machine the same day, diagnosed the problem as thread dust and need for lubrication. My machine was ready in 24 hours for less than I had paid the other company to merely tell me my machine could not be repaired. Mr, Johnson, age 93, knows a lot about sewing machines. He and his daughter do a fine honest job.

Giving them top stars anywhere I can. My Singer Touch & Sew 648 broke a gear on the vertical shaft so I took it in to them. They quoted me about a week for repairs. They called me back the same day to say that they couldnt get the pin out of the gear to replace it and offered to sell me a 628 for $20 less than what they quoted for the repair. She said they could take the vertical shaft out of the machine to get the gear but that would be a lot more in labor so she wanted to make sure she called first. I came and picked up both machines and they were very apologetic about not being able to repair my machine but offered to take another crack at it if I could ever get the pin out myself. Im really appreciative that they called me back so quickly to let me know rather than holding onto my machine for a week and then saying they couldnt fix it. Great customer service, awesome shop with a lot of wonderful old machines in it!

My Singer which had worked flawlessly for 27 years finally broke. The feed dog was no longer pulling the fabric through the machine unless it was on the larger stitch lengths and the buttonholer was not functioning either. After looking at reviews on-line, I decided to take my machine to Archie and Sons. It is a very old shop with no air conditioning and is full of old machines. Archie is probably in his 80s and his son is older as well. When I arrived I talked to Archie’s son. He said they had been in business for 60 years. As I looked around I felt confident they would be able to fix my machine as they obviously were used to working on older machines. I told him the main problem with the machine and then, since they seemed so skilled, added that if they could also straighten out the needle shaft that would be great because it had slightly leaned to the right for quite some time. Archie’s son said ok, that he would call me with an estimate and it would take about a week. I said ok and left. I never got a phone call with an estimate on the repair. However in a week I called and they told me the machine was finished. I went to pick it up and they charged me $60. I was so excited until I got home and tried to sew. The needle shaft was now straight, but the main problem was still there, only slightly improved, and the buttonholer didn’t work at all still either. I could tell from the sample stitching on the fabric they used to test it that it wasn’t working for them either. Also, now the light bulb wouldn’t work. I was very disappointed. If they couldn’t fix it, I wish they would have just been honest about it. My husband encouraged me to take it back saying that since they had been in business so long, surely they would make it right. I took the machine back to the shop and told them it was still broken and that the light bulb also wasn’t working. I showed Mary (a worker there) how the stitching was still wrong and how the light wasn’t working now. She acted like it had been working when they tested it. I showed her the test cloth and said that it wasn’t. She told me, “Oh, we recommend using a button holer.” I told her that I was willing to put more money into it, but only if they thought they could really fix it well. Otherwise I would rather put the money into a new machine. She said, “Well, it might cost more money for them to open it back up. I will talk to them and call you to let you know what they say.” I never received a phone call telling me whether they thought they could fix it or not. However a few days later I received a phone call from Mary saying that it was done and that it would be $50 more dollars. I took some test fabric with me when I went to pick it up. Mary told me that they had to make a part, she said she didn’t look for a part online because it would be old and probably break too. As I was testing the machine it definitely was now sewing however now the needle rod was tilted to the left. Thankfully the bulb was working again. While I was looking at the machine, Archie was looking on. He is sweet and cheerful. I told Mary the needle was now tilted to the left. She was looking at the same needle I was and she said, “It looks centered to me.” At this point I was unhappy because I had already paid $60 and that was the only issue really fixed the last time. I didn’t want to hurt Archie’s pride or start an argument. So I paid the $50 and left. When I got home I tested it more and found that each stitch was slightly crooked and the edges of the button holes were jagged instead of even. So in the end I paid $110 for a fix that leaves my sewing unprofessional in appearance at best. Since I mainly use it for clothing construction, this wont work for me. Would I recommend this repair shop? No. It appears that they have enough business. Maybe if you just needed cleaning and oiling you would be fine, but if you have an old machine you love that needs a major repair, I would recommend you look elsewhere.
