To be clear, talking about a debt you owe and cant pay is not a conversation anyone is chomping at the bit to have BUT I had a surprising conversation with Nicole M. yesterday that certainly eased the tension normally present in these conversations. Different than any other representative Ive spoken to in the years Ive had this burden, Nicole was first of all kind, which is not typical. She was also knowledgeable, professional and patient in answering all of my questions. Sadly, I feel sure I will die with this debt so my anxiety level about the matter is already quite high. My rep was super helpful explaining how one of my loans had different consolidation rules that either I didnt understand at the time I had to take the student loan or it wasnt mentioned. We got that straightened out and I was able to reset my payment schedule for the accidental missed payments and she even worked with me to start my current payment schedule after my payday. Spoke with Melody today about getting caught up on my student loan payments after being out of work and getting behind. I had so much anxiety about this, but after a 10 minute conversation with Melody, my anxiety level has gone down 90%. She is professional and friendly and knows how to help people navigate the process.

Miss Jones called me on Friday August 17 regarding my overdue payment on my student loan. While I have to say, the CFI website is not at all easy to use, and the process to pay via checking account is maddeningly frustrating (Duke Progress Energy is so easy--please CFI, take a look at that site) ... the people who work for CFI are outstanding. They are some of the nicest people Ive ever talked to, and I usually only talk to someone when Ive done it again and gotten behind on my payments. So they are calling as bill collectors, but t hey are incredibly kind, helpful, and just plain pleasant to talk with. Miss Jones was just lovely to me on Friday.I told Miss Jones this, that I sincerely appreciate her being so patient with me, and she was, again, just the picture of graciousness.Something is going very right at CFI. It has to be. For as long as Ive had this loan (way too long), every single time I hear from them (or stop into the office off Highwood in Raleigh), I get the same customer service experience--beyond excellent. For this to be true, so consistently and for so many years, it has to be trickling down from the top. The management at CFI must be superb. Theres no other explanation.Now, if they could just get with their IT department and get a more functional, intuitive website, they would probably be eligible for Number One Company in the US! Thank you very much. I dont like owing money, but you make it less painful for me.
