I found this hall on a wedding app and fell in love with the pictures (March 2020, pre-pandemic status). I reached out via email and scheduled a walk through. Upon arriving, I noticed the outside of the hall is very run down, to the point I triple checked the address I used was correct. The ceremony area in the back was the most beautiful I had ever seen in my life! The front bar for the groomsmen, the beauty parlor in the basement for the ladies, the reception area - I could see it all for my wedding day in Autumn 2021, looking past how the hall looked from the outside. As I attempted to schedule a tasting shortly after, America began shutting down due to COVID-19. I knew this was going to be an issue, but I wasnt worried. Every other month I would send an email, restating how excited I was RE the venue and inquiring about if they were open or not to do the tasting. Sometimes they would be answered, sometimes they wouldnt, which I thought was rude but looked past it. My fiancé and I finally were able to schedule the long-awaited tasting in August, and though what we tasted that day didnt really WOW us, there was a lot of other foods to choose from and we were willing to put down a deposit and figure out the food later. The coordinator who we met with, Sharon, was absolutely wonderful from the walk-through to the tasting and answered all the questions that she could... Instructing me to get final pricing estimates via the woman I had been emailing with, since she had that information and Sharon had not. I laid out my pricing questions in an email and sent it off. A response! Perfect! I typed out my final follow-up questions, and nothing. A month passes, nothing. Another month, nothing. Now, I could have constantly emailed until I received a response, but I did that in the spring already and at this point of us doing business, when I just wanted a few pricing questions settled before putting a deposit down, I didnt feel like that was my job. And in the end, I felt that if they really wanted my business, they could respond to an email. If they didnt care to even email me back, what should I expect the day of my wedding? I gave up on them. All in all: The hall was beautiful. Sharon was fantastic. Whoever handled the emails did the bare minimum (if that), and in turn was the reason we did not want to do business with Hickory Hall.

Friday fish fry this past weekend. My wife and I had wanted to try Hickory Hall for several months and the first opportunity did not disappoint. Servers were attentive, both at the front bar and in the dining room. I ordered perch, my wife, the baked cod and potato pancakes for both. Cole slaw was creamy, fresh and a little sweet. Bread basket was appreciated. Well prepared meals. Manhattans were generous. The dining room filled up by 5:15 p.m. Great dinner for two with drinks for $50. Well worth it.

Inside is great, nicely remodeled, the outside looks like you could be mugged & murdered in the parking lot. Wedding couples beware of the contract. Read everything closely. You should not be responsible for hiring Police or security for a venue that has had previous problems. You are not responsible for the insurance problems of the venue. Beware.

I made reservations for my sisters birthday for the high tea. There were three of us and it was on October 20th. We had never been there before so we were excited to find a high tea in the suburbs. It was very pretty and the tables were set with white tablecloths. It was the waitresses first day working there so she really wasnt sure about some things. There was only one place setting on the table and we had to ask a couple of times for two more settings. The choices of beverage were coffee, iced tea or a tea bag. No loose tea or tea pot. Each guest gets to pick from four finger sandwiches. They were ok. This is where the problem is, the scones were dry and way to dense and the pastries were store bought from Sams Club or Jewel. They were terrible. For $29.95 per person, I expected homemade food. Even for a suburban tea, it was not worth the money. I suggest going downtown and having a real high tea where everything is homemade and fabulous. This was a very costly disappointing experience.

My second visit was just as impressive as the first. A couple of us had the tremendous prime rib and the others had the fish fry. We were all very happy with the experience. Btw, they were short staffed and our service was still great!

It was our first experience at The Hickory Hall, a family member referred us. Heard the prime rib was great, we haven’t had great prime rib in Racine since Gibson’s was in business. First, the most disgusting smell ever hits you like a brick wall, we entered in the bar, my kids said it smelled like a senior center. Our server was good, they were relatively dead when we arrived, staff was tentative. Multiple cuts of prime rib were order plus fish. Fish fry was very bland, prime rib was mediocre at best with a Ritz Carlton price tag.I’ve been going to the meat market for years, we are always pleased with our choices, I think the restaurant food is lacking though!! A party of 5 was not impressed, definately not worth going back. Not sure what they’re famous for, but obviously we didn’t order the correct items.
