I did not know if I was going to be able to post this today. My little Jelly passed on this morning. My husband and myself spent the night taking care of her. We took her to the emergency vet and they sent us home with some charcoal in her system on Sunday. As the night came on into Monday morning we had been up with her almost every hour cleaning up from both ends. I called VCA Kootenai first thing this morning and talked to Donna. She was so amazing and got me in right away. As soon as I walked in the door Donna took my baby right into see the vet. Hallie Williams DVM who was great today. DVM Williams and her assistant took great care of Jelly and gave me the time to say good bye and hold her as she left this world. Thank you for making this day a little easier and talking me through everything. You all are amazing. I can not say anything bad about this place even their kennel is great. Thank you everyone at VCA Kootenai for helping me through this very sad day as taking care of my Jelly.
We are new to the area and unfortunately our almost 14 year old pug was coming to the end of his life. Dr. Williams took Champ in and treated him with love and respect in his final hours of life. The staff at the animal hospital were all amazing and treated us with respect and kindness. An amazing experience for such a sad time in our lives. We will definitely be bringing future pets to Dr. Williams and the Kootenai Animal Hospital Team.
Had a great Meet and Greet session with Dr. Williams and her tech. Both very friendly and understand of the fact that they are the only other ones to have seen our fur baby in all of her 12 years. Listened to our concerns, ran some tests and came up with some helpful suggestions, and possible and hopeful solutions. Will talk with them in a weeks time and report results of home treatment. Very professional.
Response to Ms. Schaefer - I left several messages to speak with you during this terrible experience. Not a word from you until this post. Fortunately, we found a vet who is compassionate and intelligent who treats Lucy with kindness and diligence, and me with respect, utterly the opposite of Dr. William’s who is the worst vet I have encountered in 40 years of caring for animals. Your feigned apology and interest is equally unprofessional and vapid. If I could give negative stars, I would. We do not recommend VCA. I come from a state where tickborne diseases are common place. Vets here in Idaho are completely unfamiliar with what acute and chronic tickborne diseases look like or how to treat them. This hospital is particularly incapable in addition to being very unresponsive and unprofessional. The veterinarians only want to do bread and butter cases - they said this! - and they would rather let an animal suffer then trust the professional judgment of another physician who has seen chronic tickborne diseases in their dogs and cared for them successfully. Back East we would never have encountered such terrible incapable care. The VCA vet’s answer for anything above bread and butter is to refer you to a specialist, and cost you more time and money, and continue to let an animal suffer. We do not recommend VCA at all, particularly Dr. Williams. She was also supposed to look into dosing and starting a pain medicine, Amantidine, for our dog who has a lot of pain from her chronic tick born disease. NEVER called back with the prescription. She is condescending and does not respect the knowledge and experience of another health professional. She is inexperienced and does not know how to practice both the art and science of medicine. She would have completely missed the diagnosis of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever in the first place if we hadn’t insisted they test. She under-treated and sent our dog down a terrible path that she neither takes responsibility for and refuses to remedy.
Midday on a Friday my groomer noticed my dog had an aural hematoma in his ear and asked me to pick him up and take him into the vet. My regular vet couldn’t get him in and the emergency vet wasn’t helpful so I took a chance and called Kootenai animal hospital. Hope, who answered the phone, was super helpful in figuring out if I needed to get him in right away, took the time to get the Drs opinion and was friendly and understanding. I had him there within 20 minutes of that phone call where he needed surgery and to stay over night. Dr kyle and his tech (wish I could remember her name!) were very friendly and patient and answered all of my questions without me ever feeling rushed. I called back later with additional questions about switching his food right before closing and Hope (once again) was so helpful, researched multiple types that would work and texted them to me (10 minutes after closing!) I also got a call checking on our dog a few days later. I was so impressed with a not so fun situation, we’ll be taking him there from now on.
Fantastic care for our dogs and cats for almost 2 full years now!! I have had all the routine stuff like nail trims and immunizations for all... Plus more tricky stuff like my dogs ear and eye surgeries. Theyve helped my cats eyes clear up. Soon theyre even going to clean my other cats teeth and pull one thats broken off. Theyve taken GREAT care of our animals!! The prices are reasonable, too. Thanks Kootenai Animal Hospital. We will gladly keep coming back!!
Amazing experience for my little baby! Super kind staff and amazing service from Dr. French. Thank you!
Omg they saved tara
Update: I was asked to email their office to discuss this further, and after a week I still havent received a response. From my experiences this office is mis-managed while offering no communication regarding patient appointment times. If you can take anything away from this review, it is: Do not take your animal to this clinic unless you have endless time to wait on an appointment time. I realize there are emergencies, and they have precedence, but the employees of this office do not communicate when the office is running behind and allow you the opportunity to reschedule. If this clinic is going to cater to emergencies and ignore appointment times, then they should be a walk-in clinic. Twice in a six-week period, I had appointments for my new kitten. I showed up on time, and I called to check in as their sign states. I waited 25 minutes the first time before someone came out to my car to take my kitten in for her check-up. I assumed it was a one-off thing and gave them the benefit of the doubt. The second time though, the same thing happened. I called, waited 20 minutes this time and ended up leaving because I needed to go back to work. I got a call 10 minutes later once I was home to drop my cat off before returning to work. It would have been a 30-minute wait for my appointment time that I had made over a month prior. Like I said, I understand there are emergencies, but it is the responsibility of the staff member that is checking people in to let people know when patient times are running behind. This happening twice, and for that amount of time shows they have a real issue with scheduling and communication that needs to be addressed. Had I been notified ahead of time I could have saved the drive to their clinic, or told they were late when I called to check in for my appointment and offered to reschedule that would have been courteous. The staff may care for your animals, but they have little regard or respect for the people that they serve.
I brought my dogs there. Covid restrictions prevent entrance into the facility unless you are staff.I waited for 1 hour & 45 minutes in the parking lot. There were many people who pulled up after me & got seen immediately as well.
5 stars without a second thought. My bluetick buddy Dan escaped from our yard early spring 2018. As he wondered up to my neighbors my neighbor pulled a .22 mag pistol and shot 4 rounds at my dog just over point blank range hitting my buddy with 3 of the 4. One threw the jowls, one through his front right shoulder and as he was running away one just above his hind hauncheds on the left side barely missing his spine and exciting on the right. The one in his face passed just under his jaw bone and excited the other side. However the bullet in the shoulder was a direct hit to the upper end of his humerus (as you can see in the pictures it annihilated it) before exciting out of his chest. Amazingly no vital organs or arteries were hit. Kellogg pet medical center received Dan initially and stopped up the bullet holes and after some rest an healing it came time to address the all but dead leg wanting to give Dan every opportunity I could to return to a normal 4 legged life and although the doc advised against it kootenai animal hospital did all that they could to reconstruct his shoulder well today Dan again had surgery to remove the leg that just couldnt be held together. There was never a single minute throughout the whole ordeal where I had to wonder if things were ok for my bluetick buddy not an event that went by that I wasnt updated on not so much as a hang nail removed with out my permission. All the while everything done with compassion and care. I myself reside in Cataldo Idaho and I can announce with full conviction I will from this sad event onward make the 45 min (with fair weather conditions) drive out with all of my animals and their needs to Kootenai animal hospital. You guys rock and from the whole family thank you for your best.-Rae, Dan, and the rest of the Fam.
Took my kitten here in july for her first shots and check up, everything went great until I got her home. About 2 days after my visit I found her covered in fleas. It took my at least a month to get rid of them and 100-200$ in pecdicides and flea treatment. My cat is a 100% indoor cat with no other pets in the household. Now I just recently took her in to get spayed and she has fleas again! This is beyond frustrating let alone very uncomfortable for my cat. All of this on top of a 30min wait time with an angry kitty trying to eat the leather in my car. I also asked that they clip her nails which they didnt do. I doubt I will go here again and I suggest you do the same.
We took 3 of our babies to them . They guided 2 of them when it was time for them to go to the bridge. They were great .I have since moved to Texas I have a new fur babie they saw him before I left. A year later they let me know it was time for his shots. I explained I had left the area they e mailed me teaks shot records I would recommend them to everybody else.
I made an appointment over the phone and they verified it I thought everything was going to be good and then I got there and sat in the waiting room with my 8 week old kitten for 30 minutes after watching numerous people get service we finally went up and said something the lady at the front counter the one that actually cared about us went back there and yelled at somebody and said we had been waiting there for a long time that we should have had a room by now... so they finally got us into a room and then the girl came out and asked what we had come for and we told them that we needed the vaccinations for my kitten she said she would be right back with the vaccinations and then she took about 20 more minutes ( they forgot about us again ) finally we went out to the main lobby and asked if they had forgotten about us then finally somebody came in with my kittens vaccinations.Highly not recommended for new or young pets I definitely will not be going back i definitely do not trust them with spaying my pet theyll probably forget about her on the operating table and go and have lunch or something...
Resolved well- the doctor called and explained everything and offered to watch over my dog at no extra charge so I am satisfied. Would hope they take it as a teaching lesson to the assistants. The doctor barely asked me about our situation just automatically insisted on xrays which didn’t even answer our main concern. When I had additional questions he wouldn’t come back in the room to discuss and the nurse looked like a deer in headlights and couldn’t answer any of my questions. They kept telling me if my dogs bleeding got worse to take her into the emergency clinic. But nobody would tell me what worse looks like because to me it already looks really bad. Not only did they take $225 from me that I now don’t have to put towards an emergency visit if I need to go I left worse off than when I came. And they didn’t even let me get out of exam room before they were handing me my bill. I used to love this place but now they rush you in and out of there out of pure greed in my opinion. Will never go here again.
Very disappointing, instead of using there knowledge and experience to find out what is wrong with your animal and doing more tests instead of just blood work than guessing what could be wrong they give him antibiotics and steroids and send them on there way just to watch your animal die. I believe if they actually act like its there animal and doing anything for them my animal would of lived instead of assuming what was wrong with him he would still be here. Dont bring your animal there is you want them to live.
Very caring and concerned people. Its really nice to find a vet clinic where they care more about your pet than they do about your money. Id highly recommend them.
Thank you vca kootenayYour best vet everYou should be the number one vet:):) your the best
I have taken both my German Shepherd and my Silver Lab here a few times. They always do a really great job and get me in and out in a timely manner. Very fair pricing - I never feel like Im over paying for any type of service. Super nice staff as well. I will continue to come here on a regular basis! Thank you Kootenai Animal Hopsital!
We brought our beloved lab to see Dr. Rogers because she had a large growth on her eye lid.We where told it would be a complicated surgery by 2 different vets, Dr. Rogers successfully removed the growth and we could not be more pleased with him and staff.
The absolute best staff, veterinarians and assistant vets. You guys are 100% every time I visit.Much love and appreciation!Update 11/26/2019- I found another vet. After theyve swap to VCA the veterinarians there have gone downhill, the prices has gone up.
Friendly knowledgeable and caring staff. They were very sympathetic to our feelings when we had to put our beloved Hewey to sleep. A week later, they sent us a card with his paw print. Very sweet.
First off, the sign at the front that says please dont cry too loud if we are putting your dog down needs to go.My experience here is as follows. I brought my 15 week old puppy here for his second shots. The vet comes in and gives the dog the shot. After the shot they turn him around and try to give him the oral dewormer and my puppy bits the vet. (Why would you give the shot that hurts first and then try to give him something that looks exactly like a shot to the mouth second????) Also, as a vet, shouldnt you have been seen that bite coming, the dog was screaming when you put your hand there (if that was my big lab, you would have never put your hand there) Instead you start questioning my ability to train and be a dog owner. You state that he needs to be handled more often by other people. Yeah, my 15 week old dorkie, who gets picked up by strangers at least 3 times a day, needs to be handled more. Maybe Ill ask all the strangers to stick a thermometer in him so he can be used to it for you. I called my old vet in Spokane and I will be returning there.
I was very pleased with how well they treated my dog. They performed her X-ray and her c section. Great staff.🐶
Had a terrible experience with boarding our dogs here. One of the staff was extremely rude several times to our younger dog - stating oh no, not YOU again!!. Never a real issue with their care until this AM, when we picked them up after just 2 days there. Our younger dogs legs were soaked with urine, she had feces and mud in her fur. She is normally very thin but we had gotten her to put on some weight. She came home with her ribs showing and had lost 4 pounds over the weekend. Both dogs had ticks on them. We are mortified!!! A phone call to the staff got us nowhere. I will never take my animals there again.
They are always seeking the best for my pup when I bring her in and take the time to make sure I understand the medication.
They saved my dogs eye. They are amazing people! One vet tech with rbf, but everyone else is really friendly!
These people are family and hope that you consider them for all your family needs. Youll be glad you did
All the staff Ive met so far is super friendly and great to work with, ask for Dr. Day if you can.
Too much going on here for anyone to do a good job. Always a chaotic environment, with everyone running around looking shell-shocked and unable to focus on anything. I had two dogs being treated there and they seemed to always confuse them. You cant get 3 continuous minutes of attention from anyone at the desk (unless you are making a payment).Scary thing is, no follow-up, no interest in pursuing a diagnosis (just send samples to the lab and tell you what its NOT, also you get one test or sample per office call, cha-ching, listen to that cash register!!), no consulting with specialists or listening when you ask multiple times for them to rule out a certain thing. Had my dog in there and they diagnosed cancer, which turned out to be untrue (it is lupus or an autoimmune disorder as I suspected, and asked them multiple times to rule out). He also had pneumonia, which was discovered at WSU when my new vet told me to go down there and get to the bottom of things. The dog could have died of pneumonia if I had waited passively for the (needless) melanoma test following their false cancer diagnosis.Their website brags that they have 17,000 active charts. Well, 16,998 as of Wednesday when I turned on my heel and walked out of there. The main expertise there is running the phone and the cash register (one better than the other, can you guess which one?). I would give zero stars if I could.
This is the only place I will take my Sugar! The front desk and managers and doctors have all gone above and beyond for my.. my sugar is terrified of linoleum and stone floors... The manager and doctors here made notes in her charts where they put rugs out every time she comes just make her anxiety a little less
Dr. Rogers takes exceptional care of my dogs. He has years of experience and is a great surgeon.
Kootenai Animal Hospital is a Very Professional Veterinarian Hospital!I just gotten a special breed of dog and had a few different things wrong with him due to his past environment and others that it treated him I believe. They went above and beyond to help me get in the proper treatment and help me get him rehoused at my place properly. They are extremely busy but they made the time to work through all the little details needed and also the trouble we had getting the proper medical records from another Veterinarian Clinic and they were finally able to do it.Im extremely happy with this veterinarian hospital and this is going to be my regular place for Neeko to be seen.Their counter staff are very very professional as are all the people that work there in any area!5 + and A+ rating for Kootenai Animal Hospital!Jerry Deitz
Have been taking my animal family there 4bout 15yrsgreat people(~*b
They take great care of our baby. 14 yr. Old dog still in good health.
Always slow getting in and out there despite appointment times being made well in advance. They got our prescription wrong twice then tried to explain how it would be better when the change would cost 4 times more before acquiescing and fixing the prescription.
Best bet in the area. Kevin and his team are great
Ive taken my pets here for 5 years. Im in a bind financially and they said I can pay for the exam $54 dollars with the $60 I have to my name. Tell me whats wrong with an estimate then I can decide what to do. Im like, wow! I wont have money to pay today so Im supposed to just know whats wrong and not be able to help my pet? Not super happy....
Koda our 87lb 9 month old newfy mastiff had an awesome visit with Doctor Kevin and his assistant staff. She had her 1st / 2nd shots done which were done and over in less then 2 minutes. Dr. Kevin addressed all my concerns and we were in and out in about 30 min with not to much hassle.I had foot surgery and was on a scooter and the staff was super wonderful even making sure I was taken care of as I was guiding in my very strong puppy lolI would definitely recommend this hospital to many others and will be going back to them in a month for some boosters for Koda.An awesome little side note is that inside the hospital there is also a grooming company that they are kind of sort of sistered up with. They are separate entities with the same owner in the same building.👍 worth checking out!!
They took great care of my Yorkie, Cooper, when he had to have surgery on his bladder. Well qualified staff.
In 30 minutes these doctors examined, blood tested, and provided medication for my 5 year old loyal cat, Jax a limp, lethargic fur ball With excellent follow up phone calls and one more visit for some injections, Jax has come back to life Expert, kind, professional service at this place
They have been our pet clinic for at least 7 years now for both our cat and our 2 Doxies. We are about to adopt a third doxie into our family so we will be in to see you all soon.Love Support and Compassion is define try there fur baby moto.
Great place. Good drs
We take all of our animals here, great vets and staff
I took my bulldog there a while back for a bladder issue. the doctor told me she had something wrong with her Eye and gave me something to put into her eye and her Eye got worse then it actually was. so now its gonna cost me more to have the eye fix then it would have cost just not touching. Now she my even loose her Eye I will never go back to this vet because they dont know what theyre doing.
The receptionist & pet techs are very helpful.
They took very good care of my little guy.
Supper friendly staff. Quick service and always good with my pups.
I use a specific brand of food for my dogs and they were the only vets that carried it! 🙂
They will treat you and your pet very well here.
Busy hospital. But not to busy to take time from the schedule to meet with you to answer all your questions.
Ive been taking my dog here for 13 yrs. They are very kind and clean
Over Priced.Charged Slot More than they said for Just Full Checkup.Didnt ask me before charging $ Hundreds More!
They have been my vet for many years. Wouldnt go any place else
Had a nightmare of an experience at Kootenai Animal. The staff was rude and unprofessional.
Very compassionate staff.
Great service and staff.
Fast but expensive
Great service and Staff!
Friendly understanding staff
FunThanks
Love the staff
Best vet ever!!! ❤❤❤
Awesome Animal hospital
Very disappointed.
Very clean and professional.
Nice staff
I took my little dog in because I thought she was going to have puppies. We saw Dr. Gutter. He did a ultra sound and said he saw two maybe three puppies. He told us to come back in two weeks and they would be able to tell us if it was two or three. Found out today after another x-ray that there are no puppies and probably never were. Went home talked to another dog expert and was told we got overcharged, that either a x-ray or a ultra sound should of been sufficient enough, that both was unnecessary. So not only am I left with no puppies but I had a almost $400 dollar bill. FOR NOTHING. I would never take my dog to this place again. And I am heartbroken to be left with so much hope of puppies and left with nothing. So very unprofessional.
