I am blown away by the care I received from the staff at Port City. My dog was referred to Dr. Brown because of mysterious gastrointestinal issues that result in chronic vomiting. Over the course of several appointments, Dr. Brown (and the techs!) were so kind, knowledgeable, and patient while I asked a ton of questions. I never felt rushed. Dr. Brown was an advocate for us and its clear she treats patients like her own.I received follow ups to questions promptly. Something I also appreciated was how up front staff were about potential costs and care. There were no surprises before any decision making on my part.Thank you Dr. Brown for taking wonderful care of Gunner!

Taking your pet to an emergency vet is always emotional. If I could give Port City 10 stars I would. They were incredibly responsive, kind and compassionate. The curbside system they have in place is incredible - its hard to leave your baby in that kind of situation but Port Citys team has such excellent communication that we were kept informed every step of the way. We were fortunate enough to have a quickly-diagnosed and super treatable case of Lyme, and were in and out in under an hour.

We brought our cat in because she her breathing seemed a little abnormal and we wanted to make sure it wasnt anything serious. Everyone we spoke too was very nice, personable and professional. They got our cat in right away, even though there were a handful of other customers there before us. The vet was amazing ! She truly went above and beyond to thoroughly explain the possible causes and what to look for as we continue to monitor our cat. This was our first time going to this emergency vet it will definitely be our first choice for now on. Its nice when the vet, technicians and receptionist care as much for your beloved pet as you do !

I took my cat here last night for what I thought was dehydration and it took a pretty sad turn. The entire time I was there I felt like I was being cared for myself, even with the current protocols in place. I was kept in the loop on every process they were going to be doing and when the inevitable choice was presented Dr. Weintraub was understanding, caring and made me feel like she knew us our whole lives. While saying goodbye wasn’t easy, the process I was presented with was outstanding and I got to hold my girl until the end. Before everything took place I was explained the process and I took comfort in knowing my cat would be at peace.Thank you Dr. Weintraub. For caring about both my cat and myself when we didn’t have anyone there. I would wholeheartedly recommend this emergency vet to anyone.

I brought my dog for a staging consult with oncologist Dr Kelvin Kow after my dog’s eye biopsy found uveal lymphoma. He was very condescending to me and even joked my dog’s condition (the ophthalmologist said that uveal cancer is rare and Dr Kow joked he should buy a lottery ticket because he’s seen three cases of this rare condition this week) He had a long convoluted story about driving on Route 95 from Boston to Florida but stopping in NC, and I still can’t understand how that is connected to cancer in my dog. He pressured me to start chemotherapy on my dog immediately (as in right then and there while my dog was still in the building) even though my dog didn’t have any imaging or other diagnostics done. He got upset when I asked about the cost and was pretty much done with me for even asking. After I hung up with Dr Kow, a tech came out to my car looking for my dog - who was still in the hospital. I’ve had to wait outside in my car at my regular vet and at Woburn emergency vet throughout Covid, but this is the first time I actually worried about my dog being in the building. Why were they looking for him outside?! I still don’t know how or where I’ll be able to get my dog treated because it’s very difficult to get appointments with veterinary oncologists right now, but I don’t feel comfortable returning to that hospital and I especially wouldn’t be comfortable with that doctor.

Please take your four-legged loved ones somewhere else for specialty care. Two of the doctors here led us to believe that our dog was fine, and now he’s slowly bleeding out from an inoperable liver tumor and there is nothing we can do for him. Please read on for the full story. We noticed increased drinking and urination in our dog last fall, as well as lethargy during walks, so our vet ran some tests and found elevated liver enzymes. She suspected a possible liver mass and referred us to a specialist at Port City to get an ultrasound. We arrived and were told the appt was just a consultation and no ultrasound would be performed that day, even though it was confirmed when we booked the appt and we were asked to have our dog fast ahead of time for the procedure. After a lot of pushing (we waited in the parking lot a total of 5 hours that day), the doctor said they would squeeze him in.After the ultrasound, the doctor called and said a liver mass (5cm) was confirmed, but he called it “incidental” and “non-aggressive” (this is in the written report as well), and also said that increased drinking and urination is unlikely, especially seeing we have multiple dogs in our household, so it can be hard to know for sure (also in the written report). He spent nearly an hour dismissing our concerns about the change in our dog’s behavior and said he consulted with another doctor at the practice, who agreed that the tumor was a non-issue. We felt completely dismissed, even though our observations had led to the discovery of the tumor, but also reassured in some ways because an expert was telling us not to worry. From the report: “An alternative perspective on his overall condition is that PU/PD is not in fact an existing problem, the liver mass is incidental, and that the liver value elevations are due to a more occult and generalized inflammatory liver disorder.” He emphasized in that conversation, and wrote in the report, “ For now, no decision seems urgent.” Trusting this info, we took several months to evaluate a liver support regiment with pills given to us by our primary vet, tried changing his food, which he hated every second of, and proceeded with the understanding that the situation wasn’t urgent and we’d figure it out as we went. Finally, after 8 months of liver enzymes continuing to rise, despite medications to suppress this, we sought guidance from another specialist on our own accord. Ironically, we went to Bulger, which is affiliated with Port City, but found the level of care, and empathy, to be substantially different. Ultimately, a follow up ultrasound and CT were performed, revealing that the tumor had more than doubled in size (11cm) during the time we spent exploring alternative theories proposed by Port City. We were gutted this week to find out that the tumor has become inoperable and has likely already started slowly bleeding. At this point, all we can do is make our boy as comfortable as possible and watch for signs of complete rupture. He has “0-months” left. Sadly, with all of the research we’ve done since then, we now realize that most owners don’t see the signs of a liver tumor until it’s too late and it actually ruptures. Our story is different because we saw the signs, we sought help early, a tumor was confirmed, but we were still dismissed. Now we need to live with the fact that we trusted the doctor, rather than advocating more for our pup early on, and wonder if we could have saved him.

I took my cat to port city for a goopy eye and sneezing. I had to sit in the car and wait for a call. A vet called me and said that my little guy had an upper respiratory infection. He prescribed an antibiotic eye drop and a steroid eye drop. They did not have the steroid in stock so I had to go to cvs to have that prescription filled which cost me an additional $22 on top of the $215 bill from port city. After giving my kitty 2 doses of the steroid eye drops his eye becsme dramatically worse, almost to the point of not being able able open his eye. I made an emergency appt with his primary vet and they got me in right away. When I showed my vet the meds I was given to give my cat her immediate response was they gave you that for a herpes case?. She was very frank and said that should not have been given and was looking into getting an optomologist in to check vision. She came back in the room and said she was texting with the port city manager asking if they were teaching their emergency vets to prescribe a steroid for herpes related goopy eyes. Port citys managers response was NO! Why did that happen?.I have been trying to contact port city to discuss this issue and have been put on hold and told a manager will be in touch soon. It has been several days and have had no luck getting a hold of anyone nor have been given a call back. Port city will not be getting any of my nor my families business going forward. I am asking for a full refund!

This might be a long review, so the tl;dr of it is that if youre reading reviews on Port City Vet Ref Hospital because youre wondering if this is the right place to help care for your pets medical needs, look no further and make an appointment. I cannot say enough good things about the vets and staff at Port City. Our senior dog Max has entered that part of his life where he needs more constant care and there is truly no place I trust more for his senior care than Port City.I have to give major props to two doctors in particular, Dr. Kow in oncology and Dr. Incorvaia in emergency/critical care. Dr. Kow knows his stuff! He took the time to answer all of our questions and to check in about Maxs progress. Even once Max was referred out for surgery in another facility, Dr. Kow followed up and is helping us through a few post-surgery complications. If he doesnt know the answer, he says that and finds it. If something isnt his specialty, he admits that and recommends other vets that can help more. You get the feeling he truly cares not just about your pet but also about you as an owner and the rollercoaster of emotions pet medical issues can cause. He was also so reasonable and understanding of the time it takes to make tough decisions about your pets. We never felt rushed or overwhelmed by Dr. Kow.We only worked with Dr. Incorvaia a few times when we were in the beginning stages of diagnosis but she made the BEST impression. She was so smart, so clear in her findings and suggestions, and she was relentless in partnering with other specialty vets in the building to help her make the best decisions and recommendations for Max. After our initial visit with her, we decided that any time we needed to return, we wanted to try to do so on a day she was working. Both Kow and Incorvaia are incredible assets to their profession and to Port City. Maxs medical journey isnt over and we dont know the outcome of all of his recent procedures yet, but I have absolute confidence in the staff and vets at Port City! Here is a picture of Max very happy with Port City too!

My review is for both the Opthalmology and Oncology departments at Port City. Earlier this year, they helped guide my family and my beloved cat, Tessa, through some very difficult diagnoses, and surgery. Every single staff member I encountered there -from the people answering the phone, the front desk staff, the techs, and the vets, were absolutely wonderful, compassionate, and caring. This is not a cheap veterinary practice by any means, but it was worth every penny I spent, and every mile I drove back and forth to get my cat the very best care in NH - the vets here have more credentials behind them than some of my doctors, and who doesnt want the very best for their pets? I live an hour and a half away, and would not hesitate to bring another of my pets here for specialist care if needed. Thank you for all you do and all your compassion.

When I decided I was done waiting and wanted to come back another time, I wasnt allowed to take my dog back. I sent my dog in for URINE ISSUES and the doctor didnt do a urine test??? Literally the only thing we needed done. Absolutely horrible! Paid over 100 dollars for the doctor to say what we already knew, “that he looked fine and to keep an eye on him.” My dog doesn’t like the vet and was stuck inside for hours without me. We just had our first experience using Port City Veterinary Hospital with our Yorkie, Luci. She came in due to a breathing issue and our regular Vet thought it could be related to her heart. We were very impressed at how quickly they admitted her and how great the attending Vets were at updating us on her progress and what they had put in place to treat her. Both Dr James and Dr. Burger were incredibly compassionate and I knew Luci was in good hands. Very professional, responsive, and helpful! My cat had an acute onset of vomiting very early in the morning and the staff here were able to take her in right away and get her looked at. The vet was very thorough in her explanation of my cat’s blood work and the options for investigating the cause of her vomiting. Since it was so early, the radiologist wasn’t onsite to perform an ultrasound right away, but I was able to bring my cat in only a couple hours later and have it done then! The vet offered to let my cat stay the few hours between our first arrival and the ultrasound appointment - even though we didn’t do this, it was great to have the option and have the vet explain what she thought was the best option. Overall a very professional, responsive staff, great adherence to COVID protocols, and such a convenient option for very late night/early morning vet emergencies. Thank you so much for taking such great care of my cat!

Our sweet boy Kirby cat was 19 yrs old. We didnt have him all those years but the years we did have him were wonderful. Our sweet boy, two days after Christmas suffered what seemed to be a stroke then had a seizure after that. He couldnt hold himself or his head up and was having problems breathing. We had to make that very hard decision to end his pain and discomfort. We were told to go to Port City Vet and glad we did. They were very compassionate and did not rush us at all. We were put in a nice room to be alone with our little boy to spend as much time as we needed before the procedure. They explained everything that was going to happen to him. We held him in a thick blanket that they wrapped him in while it was done and it was very peaceful. We told them we wanted to bury him on our property. They took him to take out the IV and when they brought him back he was in what was a casket with a poem taped to the top and they got his paw prints on cards for us. They all showed compassion and gave their condolences as we left. I couldnt have asked for more. Thank you Port City Vet for your care during our loss.

We have nothing but amazing things to say about our entire experience with Port City Veterinary Hospital. We were referred here by our regular vet when our 5-month old puppy started exhibiting GI issues including vomiting and diarrhea. Dr. Roberts listened to our puppys history and recommended an ultrasound after which they identified not one - but TWO socks in his GI tract. After an overnight stay on fluids and careful monitoring our puppy was able to safely pass the socks on his own and we were able to avoid a costly $6,000 surgery. We received regular updates and support from all of the staff members. We wish we could take our puppy here for everything. Your dog is in great hands here. Thank you, Port City! - Kate & Thor

Awesome staff and service, felt welcomed and felt like they understood my needs and my fur baby’s needs.. we came in with my cat who had URI and wasn’t able to breathe very well, they called available vets and tech to the lobby stat to take my animal to get him on oxygen.. which was so awesome.. then we sat for like maybe 30 minutes waiting for the doctor, Dr. Elise I think, super awesome and nice, talked with us for about like 20 minutes discussing options and outcomes and prices for the services.. and they are reasonable, expensive sorta but not bad.. we received a steroid, an anti vomiting medicine, and a sedated throat exam for the fur baby.. and it was all under $300 which is great! And the vet tech was so nice I wish I got his name he truly deserves to be recognized, He was very calm and helped us understand and told us how to administer and help us with when to give the medicine and he was just so nice!! We did have to wait a hour to get our animal back but it wasn’t a long wait, it was during a influx of patients, during that time we talked to the tech, paid for the services, and had some coffee. Really great experience and very nice people! I recommend this place 100% ❤️❤️ Will definitely go here again if need be. And my fur baby is doing much better!

HORRIBLE communication system. Our lab was here for a CT scan with anesthesia which was an OKAY experience at best. They told us they would give us text updates and to bring our dogs food for when he woke up. We NEVER got any updates and when we tried to contact them, it was difficult to get through to the front desk but then once we did, they said that they didn’t know what was going on out back. It wasn’t until I just showed up demanding information that they said my dog was ready to go. Not to mention, when we finally got him, they never gave him his food and he was sooo hungry and thirsty. We felt horrible. They then just referred us to another specialist, which is fine but it’s been several months and they still haven’t sent the referral over to the new vet, despite 5 separate phone calls and emails. They’ve only sent records but forget to fill our the referral. Even the new vet has sent them messages. Each time we call, we get someone else who doesn’t actually work there, we get told they’re handling it and then they don’t. This place is actually a joke. Also, notice how they rarely respond to low star reviews on here.

Although nice people. They tried charging us 1900 dollars to watch our dog overnight for symptoms, after paying $500 and change for an iv of fluids, anesthesia and catheter. My dog had a moderate case of albuterol poisoning due to biting an inhaler. Only symptoms he had was elevated heart rate and somewhat difficulty breathing due to his heart rate...no vomiting,no diarrhea...no other symptoms.they didn’t even ask if he was having these symptoms to help diagnose what was exactly wrong with him. They wouldn’t do anything until we called poison control(which I understand) to a point. Just disheartening to know you’re bringing your dog to an emergency vet only to have to call a hotline for $75 dollars to tell them what to do. Needless to say, they did get his heart rate down and potassium levels are normal( I also gave him a baked potatoe before going there) He’s back to normal and his happy dopey self again. So we declined the overnight possibly 36 hour stay for $1900 to babysit my dog.

It occurred during the pandemic, so all correspondence during treatment was over the phone, but we felt like our girl was very well cared for during her treatment. Dr. Kow spelled out all of the options (and costs) associated with her treatment, and they were successful in removing her tumor and with following chemotherapy treatments. While her treatment appeared to be successful, she later succumbed to a second and sudden occurrence of a different type of cancer. Dr. Kow called us to extend his condolences when he found out, which was much appreciated, as was the information he provided on the type of cancer that finally claimed her.It was very difficult for our family to lose such a wonderful dog, but we feel strongly that Port City did what they could to help her when she was with us.

Very disappointed!! I have gone there 2 different times in the past year. Both times I knew more than the vet. The charged my $750 to tell me the same thing I told them. I was treating a dog for an abscess prior to bringing into them telling them that I wanted it opened to drain it. They told me it was $750 which was outrageous but I agreed. I went to pick up the dog at the end of the day and they told me they didn’t feel comfortable opening up the abscess to drain it because of the location and still charge me $750. So I paid for absolutely nothing and they sent me home and told me to continue doing what I was doing.I do not recommend them at all I think there’s a bunch of immature young vets that don’t have enough experience working there. I would recommend Bulger animal hospital over them.

This review is a bit overdue: In late January of this year I came home from work to my dog Barley unable to stand or walk, trembling, and in an excruciating amount of pain. I was sure he was dying, and drove over to Port City. I was seen quickly, and everyone on staff (from the receptionist, to the Vet Tech, to Dr. MacLauchlan) was so helpful and gentle with Barley. They were also super nice when I was bawling my eyes out in the exam room/waiting rooms. They diagnosed him with an auto-immune disorder that resulted in polyarthritis and all of his joints swelling very painfully.Beyond that, they were good about giving me updates on him the next day, and when he was doing better than theyd predicted they let me take him home a day early, even though they could have easily avoided giving me a partial refund if they chose to keep him for another night. We followed their aftercare instructions, arranged the recommended follow-ups, and Barley hasnt had a flare-up since! So a big thanks to Dr.Maclauchlan and the rest of the Port City team for being so wonderful with Barley!

I am beyond BLOWN away by the care I received at Port City. Every doctor, vet tech and front desk person did everything in their power to help me every step of the way. My 4 month old puppy had a severe corneal ulcer that required immediate corneal graft surgery, while being in the hospital they had noticed discomfort in his paw from a jump he had taken recently and when I brought him to his regular vet they diagnosed it as a sprain and just prescribed him pain medication and sent me on my way. Well, after an X-ray they discovered it was NOT a sprain, his paw had 3 broken bones in it! They repaired and splinted my pups paw during his eye surgery and now he is on the road to recovery. While vet care is not cheap, they did their very best to keep me under the estimate they gave me and after discovering the foot injury I expected a much higher bill, but instead received a refund ! I would highly recommend this Hospital to anyone. This review took awhile to write as its been a difficult journey after our cat that passed beginning of the year under an unfortunate situation. The staff was amazing although I hate to even bring this up but during our visit last February, we noticed the receptionist was either drunk or high. Were thinking she was under the influence of something as we did not smell alcohol. This person was out of it and loopy. That worried us when we first visited with our then sick cat.On the plus side, Dr. Berger, who had to bare us the bad news in the end, was just an amazing Doctor that was so kind and compassionate. That experience alone just made the situation a little easier knowing that we know Port City made the right decision. As sad as we were, we were finally at peace. I dont think Ive cried that much for our cat that weve only had for less than few months. We still look back and was thankful at how we were treated by the doctor despite the rather odd behavior from the receptionist (which at that point we werent even really concerned about). We are glad shes resting in peace now and not in pain. So thank you to Dr. Berger and the staff at Port City.

I was referred to this vet and they are a very shady place. They kept me there for hours doing countless tests on my cat telling me she had stage 5 cancer. Call me two days later telling me she has no cancer at all. They tell me it’s an infection but they can’t figure out what kind of infection but will likely need expensive medication for life. They want to keep her overnight, solely for “observation”. I said no because that was unnecessary and another $500 on top of the thousands already spent. They tell me they had no answers for anything after all these tests and wanted to test for something that already came back negative, using a “more reliable” test this time. I finally took her elsewhere for a second opinion and they immediately could figure out what was wrong and can be treated and go away. The staff and doctors were very nice and empathetic, but they have no business scamming innocent people like this. They jump through hoops trying to explain their reasoning for all the testing and why it’s so necessary, manipulating the customers. They caused me so much emotional and financial stress.

When I got there at 1030-11 pm they took him in while I waited in my car then they called and said they would not do the surgery unless I gave them a deposit of $6000 and they charged me $525.10 to keep him overnight until I could find a different vet who cared about the animals. When I questioned y they told me to bring him in and he wouldnt be turned away and then to be told that they wanted that much money. They told me it was their call center that said it and admitted they screwed up. They were also going to do unnecessary procedures to increase bill. They did do a procedure and noone called me last night or this morning to tell me how my dog was I had to call at 10am to check on him. I would strongly suggest you stay as far away as possible. And consider going to vecc 5 mins up the road.

They had me pay 200$ to get her back and sent her home with pain relief for the night I will never bring my animals back here unless its a serious emergency the people were nice but totally unhelpful.

I would have given this hospital a 5 stars until I received the itemized bill. I was referred to Port City by my vet. The receptionist at Port city scheduled an appointment for me with a surgeon. I met with him for close to an hour and was charged $172 for consult. Completely understandable and reasonable. After learning that I needed to have the procedure done by an internal medicine vet I was then charge another $172 for a 5 minute meeting. Seriously!!! Aside from this ridiculous charge, the staff and veterinarians were AMAZING!!

I brought my dog for an old leg injury to get an opinion on it. It was this last Wednesday on May 27th 2020 so it was hot. Her leg was acting fine so we took her outside for a few minutes to throw the ball and she ended up tearing 3 of her pads. Now, the reason i give them a 5 star is for a few reasons. #1, when this happened they rushed her right inside to the ER. About 10 minutes later they were calling to update me on her. They kept me so informed on what was going on. #2, when she went into the appt. to begin with they called and asked me more about what my concerns were and actually really listened. #3, with her feet getting hurt it gave an unexpected bill. They lowered the visit more than half to help out. The people there were SO SO incredibly nice and made her feel safe and calm. I wish they were closer because i would witbout a doubt 100% switch to them. They were professional, nice and very kind. Definitely go there. We drove 4 hours round trip but it was so worth it

I just wanted to thank the team that helped my poor old gal last night. My parents dog had a bad seizure late last night due to a tumor behind her eye. The team took excellent care of her and despite having multiple patients at the time they were still able to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. Additionally, my parents were very satisfied with the cost as it did not cost an arm and a leg as they were expecting it to. They also accepted care credit! Highly recommend.

Growing up we had 3 family dogs, and I recently adopted my own rescue pup now that I’m out of college. Needless to say, I have brought my pets here many times. The staff here has always been knowledgeable, understanding, and supportive. I have had experience with multiple doctors there and many technicians. All of them have provided fantastic care for our furbabies. The staff also created and provides different treatment plans that you can choose from. Dr. Berger sat and spoke with me about my options for a good 20 minutes while I mulled over different tests and treatments for my pup to have. She made sure that I understood what each item was for and that I did have alternatives to choose from. The only reason why I gave them 4/5 stars is due to the price of some services, specifically the complete blood panel. I am 100% sure that there is a justified reason for their pricing on that item but for someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, it makes for a tight squeeze.•I will reiterate that most of the services that my pets have received are fairly priced and there have been many times that I’ve escaped Port City with a lesser bill than at my dog’s primary vet.•

Their doctors and veterinary care team are great. They all have been very helpful and kind to our pet, and we have been seeing them for almost two years now. However, their communication system is a disaster. And, while some of them are really helpful, there are also really rude members in their front desk and/or in the team that answers your calls. You never ever can reach the person you need right away, ever! You need to call, and call back, and back ... and email and call, ... and maybe after all that half of your messages may be transferred to the person to whom the messages needs to go. And, I need to restate that this is not a one time issue, it has been the case throughout our experience with them and it never improved. Our pet has a chronic condition and this has been a constant struggle. Due to this extreme inefficiency he goes unchecked for prolonged periods at times. I am thinking that at this day and age, solving a communication inefficiency such as this one shouldn’t be too difficult. On top of it, I am assuming that most people are busy now a days so spending hours just to reach the person that you need to talk with, is unacceptable. And, this is totally unfair for their health team, since I think their doctors as well as the technicians are amazing. And, we are truly grateful for all their help and time. So, just to be clear, my rating above is an average of the two sides. I am not writing this review to gain points or to get a call from the institution (I honestly don’t want to deal with another phone call from them unless I have to since it is always a time and energy drain). But, I am sharing this review hoping that they may take such reviews seriously and update their system to the level deserving for their veterinary care team. And, I did share similar reviews with their internal review request system multiple times before, but not seeing much change, decided to try a public platform for a change.

Our dog swallowed a popsicle stick whole today. I called and they directed us, took information about our dog over the phone to save time on our arrival and brought us directly into a room when we got there. They updated us on the plan of care and time frame, it was obviously very busy and they made every effort to keep us comfortable through the process. This was our familys 3rd visit here with three different dogs/situations and every time I am amazed at the quality and affordability of the services we have been provided, especially in an emergency situation. We couldnt be more grateful totheir multiple staff members for their professionalism and empathy. We are very fortunate to be home tonight knowing our boy is okay and that if we ever need help in an unfortunate situation, Port City Veterinary care is available.

I cannot say enough about the excellence of the Port City staff. I have been using their specialists for years with my working dogs. Getting through on the phone can, at times, be a bit of a wait, however, once you get through, the response is very quick and calming.Last year, I had to rush one of my dogs into Port City, after he had collapsed. From the moment we entered the facility, they began running tests on him, keeping me informed all the way. He was a big, sweet Rottweiler, who looks intimidating, yet everyone loved on him and he was happy there. Sadly, he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. The oncologist, Dr. Kow, and his team explained all of his odds of survival..the good and the bad. Thankfully, I had pet insurance on him since he was a puppy so we didnt need to make choices based on costs. We choose to give him a fighting chance and began chemotherapy, blood transfusions and a spleenectomy. All the way, the oncology team kept us informed of his chances and took our calls...day or night. We did have to let him go after almost 8 weeks of trying, he was too weakened. The staff were amazingly compassionate and many were crying with us, as they got to know him well. Many also told us that he had given them a new perspective on Rottweilers due to his sweet nature.I will forever be grateful for the care and compassion of the Port City staff. On Thanksgiving, my husband brought up a cake for the staff that were working on the holiday instead of being with their families.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Some staff are nice. Some arent. It does feel a lot like the visits are pointless and/or like the doc(s) are missing something with my pet. I cant tell if its the nature of my pets conditions or if the vet is trying to milk getting money. The rooms are not cleaned and refreshed (just like many have said on here.) And when I brought it up in person, while I was there, they acted like it wasnt a big deal and that I was a diva for even mentioning it.Calling is an absolute waste of time. Their structure for calling is as well. And when you get someone on the phone, you cant always be sure to trust what is said or what is related. I asked to leave urgent on the message to have the doctor call me back, the woman I spoke with refused. She said they dont do that there, and that the box wasnt full. Its now afternoon the next day and I really need that call back!

I had such a great experience here with my dog recently who needed a cardiology consult. Everyone I have dealt with, from that first nervous phone call to schedule, CSR staff, the techs and the cardiologist, Dr. MacLea, was the absolute friendliest and most professional I have dealt with. Not one single person acted like they were just doing a job that didnt matter or bored with what they were doing. All were friendly, helpful, patient and attentive which went a long way toward soothing my worried mind. I actually had a later appointment scheduled at another facility when I first called them but the person who took my call was so helpful, friendly and understanding that I immediately knew I was in the right hands and I canceled my other appointment. Dr. MacLea was so patient and fully answered all of my questions. Thank you so much for all you do for worried pet parents like me and for giving Timber such loving care. I had to take my cat in on New Years Day because my vet was closed. While they brought us to the room quickly they were awful in every other way. The tech came in and explained that my cat may have a UTI which my vet already said and that was why we were there. The vet came in and said the same thing and I mentioned I was concerned with dehydration. She said they would take him back to give him a shot of fluids and bring him back to me within 15 minutes. 45 minutes later with NO update, I went and asked for one. They said they would get one. Another 15 minutes went by and I stood there while making the reception call back. 10 minutes later they brought my cat out handed me two different medicines and told me to pay they bill. When I asked questions they said it was covered in the paperwork, none of it was. I had to call back to get information on IF they had given my cat the first dose and what I should and shouldn’t be concerned with. I had to take my cat to my vet a day later because of dehydration and pain with no improvement from what was done here. I’m not convinced they even gave him the fluids. They take advantage and don’t actually care about “small” cases, it’s just pushing people and pets in and out getting the most they can from those that are upset. My vet had to fit us in on an emergency basis and answer all the questions they didn’t answer AND give fluids which shouldn’t have been needed. It was a waste of time, a waste of money and worst of all it left my cat in pain and dehydrated with another trip to the vet causing more stress as well as risking making his illness worse since my vet let me know UTI’s are caused by stress.I’m so disappointed that the people I HAD to trust with my furbaby just decided to not care.

I have a 6 year old cat, Howie, who suddenly began to pee blood. When I called his vet they said it was a medical emergency and to bring him to Port City. I was on my way to work and I called my boyfriend to bring him. I called ahead and Port City took down my information and Howie was seen promptly. He was discharged with urinary inflammation and pain medications. The discharge instructions were very clear what to look for. Unfortunately he couldn’t pee the next day so I called Port City back and they had me bring him in again. The same vet tech (I can’t remember his name but he remembered Howie) brought Howie in and made sure his pain was controlled. The vet said he had complete urinary obstruction and he was going to have to stay awhile. I was called twice a day with updates ( which was fabulous, I felt very comfortable he was in good hands). Dr. Stanziele called me and told me he was going to need surgery and was very upfront and honest about how much Port City charges vs my cats regular vet. I appreciate that so much because I knew they have my cats best interest in mind, not just making money. They arranged to keep his catheter and IV in so I could pick him up and bring him to his surgery (which is where he is at now!).Of course the bill was expensive but it’s emergency medicine, it’s always going to be on the pricey end but at the end of the day he’s my fur baby and as long as he’s ok, the bill can be figured out. They even refunded me some money because the estimate was a little high!Over all I was extremely happy with the care howie received there and I think If you go into it knowing it’s going to be expensive because it’s an emergency room then you won’t have too many surprises! Also a bonus they accept CareCredit which comes in handy when you don’t have pet insurance. Thanks for saving my cats life!

My very sick Maine Coon was treated by the Internist department since October. After spending almost twenty thousand dollars and several visits over the last 4 months---being in direct contact with the internist department on a weekly basis, Trader sadly passed away at another veterinary hospital. The day he passed, I spoke with the liaison at Port City to cancel his upcoming appointments telling them Trader had passed. I never received a condolence call, card or any communication from the internist or the department. CAVES and 2 other veterinary clinics who knew Trader having treated him over his 11 years sent cards signed by everyone there, made calls and even made a donation to a rescue org in his name. To be clear, Im satisfied with the care given by the internist. I dont expect Port City to go above and beyond like CAVES did, but its very disappointing to feel treated like a number. A card of acknowledgement would have been nice. Either Port City is either too big/busy or the internist department is too busy to care. Very disappointed.

The vet techs I spoke to answered all of my questions and were compassionate towards me being a completely stressed out cat mom. They spoke with the vet and worked me through the issue I was having. Right before Oliver was about to be packed into his carrier crate he went in his litter box and peed. I think he knew it was a vet trip and he just wasnt having that. Yet this vet will 100% be where I will go if Oliver is ever in need of care during emergency hours. We were not asking for medical advice as our dog was already being treated with antibiotics from our own vet. We were just looking to make our sick dog comfortable.Requested advice over the phone regarding our dogs UTI. Despite having spent significant monies (in excess of $10K) with this operation for testing, MRI etc., they refused to offer any suggestions for OTC options stating they hadnt seen her in a year. All we wanted was to make our already ill (on antibiotics ) little girl comfortable until she could see her own vet Monday morning. Joe refused to even consult with an onsite vet. Unacceptable.
