Big Als on 1611 Airline Blvd, Portsmouth, VA 23707 is the best place to get anything done to your car. Ask for DAVE if he is working behind the desk but everyone is usually great. They will give you great service and not try to take your money.

Another Tire place cross threaded my tire bolt then told me it would be $320 to fix it. I also got my brake pads done last year and they’ve already worn to 1/10.Robert at Big Als on Airline was a literal angel sent from heaven. He was honest and kind and patient with this issue. It’s hard to find honest mechanic businesses and I’m so glad I found them. I’m absolutely going back and totally appreciate the staff there! They were transparent with communication on time due to the amount of cars being dropped off, and helped me feel at ease with the car issues needing to be fixed. They were also streamlined with the issues on my car, meaning I didn’t get another person who didn’t know or couldn’t reference the same problem/solution.Most importantly I paid the same Amount for brake pads, rotors, and fixing a cross threaded stud that the other company was going to charge for just the labor to replace the stud... (the other company wanted to charge nearly $800 for brake pads, resurfacing rotors,fixing the stud.).Thanks so much Robert and the Mechanic who did the work on my car and the whole Big Als staff on Airline. 🙌🏽❤️😂 If i could give you guys 1000 stars I would! I’m thoroughly impressed!

Waited over 2 hours for oil change got tired of waiting. Very slow shop. Better for dropping off your vehicle for next day pick up to slow for same day service.

I’ve been going to Big Al’s since I purchased my first car. Mr. Dave always takes care of me. When Mr. Dave left the George Washington Hwy location, I kept asking the new management if they knew where he’d went. Very patient and don’t break your pockets. Some repairs are expensive but they try to give the best quality at a decent price.

Overall great experience. While I was here I always felt my vehicle would be well taken care of. The technicians were very transparent about the work they would be doing, and prior to performing the maintenance, they took me to my vehicle and showed me the issues and recommended solutions that were cost effective. The technicians had a high level of knowledge and offered exceptional customer service. I will only be bringing my vehicles to Big Als if I have problems with my brakes.

The service here was great. I had my car towed there and they had it in the bay and checked it out immediately. Mike was awesome! He gave me options and didnt try to sell me on unnecessary services. They had my car fixed in less than an hour . I highly recommend this shop !

Going to take my car in for new brakes (probably rotors too). My wife brags about the service here now. She is dedicated and wont take the Jeep anywhere else but here. I had a bad experience over a year ago but the last few times we took her Jeep in the customer service was excellent. Im not from Virginia so it would be great to find a shop to stick with and not have to worry about if Im paying a fair price.Okay. My wife was right again!!! Took my SUV in Friday evening. Had no high expectations because the parking lot was full except for 3 parking spots. Very friendly customer service. Before they closed they had taken my vehicle into the shop. Within half hour after they opened they had already conducted an inspection and called me!!! Vehicle was completed within the next couple hours and the price was very fair!! I will be taking my vehicle there in the future. Loved they are open on Saturdays and how friendly the service was. This is one time Im glad she was right!!

Thought we were getting a good deal at first with our breaks and rotors. But three months later no more than 4 months and the rotors are warping. Not only did they not have an explanation for it. But they wouldn’t take accountability for the fact that the manager “Dave” talked to every customer except me. Couldn’t look me in the eye. Terrible and unreliable service. If you want peace of mind of not getting used parts, go elsewhereUpdate: the owner was pleasant enough to inform and work things out. Pleasure of doing business with him.

Used to be my go to garage. Been going here for over 25 years because their prices WERE best around. Something has changed the last few years and now they are about as competitive as most other non-dealer garages. Example: $135 for 4 iridium spark plugs. No can do.

Afternoon I went to big Als this morning to check my driver wheel. They quote me 12,000 for repair. But only cost me way less then that. Big al dont manager try to over cost me where tread Quarters gave me a better price. Al hit people over the head in pricing. Could be because Im a woman. I wouldnt never go to Big Al or nothing in life.

The manager is always so pleasant he really is a Gem. He treated me with the up most respect and answered all the questions. And really knew his stuffs. If you ask me he is the best manager that place has had in a long time. Terry is amazing and so are the guys there at big als

Not a good experience. The wait time was over 4 hour to ONLY get my front brakes done. The employees showed no concern. Told me little about what the hold up was.

I called in to ask for a quote..being sure to give make/model/year info. All I wanted was basic break work ..no ceramic, no rotars and no special lubes etc. They said no problem but did whatever they wanted anyway. Taking advantage of women is not ok. $359 is not what I was expecting to pay, if they had listened to my request for service. I bet if a man had requested this on the same model car, it would have gone his way.Later the same day, I checked in with a retired mechanic who cost verified the parts...basically they over charged so much, the actual cost of labor was closer to $200!! Go here only if you want to burn 🔥 money!

Went in to have 1 weld bead placed on my exhaust hanger since it broke off. Talked to David on the phone who said it would be an hour wait. Got there 5 minutes later, same amount of people there he said on the phone. Sit for my hour, see other cars getting worked on for people who came in after me. Walk up to the counter to find out how much longer and get told another hour maybe hour and a half so we may not get to you. Really? For one bead thats going to take 20 seconds to lay down. If I wouldnt have gotten up to ask, nobody would have told me they werent going to get my in. I would have sat there for another hour. Huge water of time. If their service is anything like the customer service, I dont want them to weld on my vehicle.

Refused to give my wife a written estimate of the work we were having done on her vehicle. Had to ask repeatedly. The gentleman stated it would be on the receipt. The written estimate was eventually provided. We have gone here in the past and never had a level of customer service so poor.

Great spot if you need anything brakes or exhaust done. The staff is very knowledgable and excellent at breaking down an issue with your car. They even negotiate if you try to wiggle the price down. They even bring you in the garage if you want to learn a thing or two. They do not touch any internal engine parts though keep in mind! If your engine knocks they wont touch it. And they dont do state inspections. For that theyll refer you to canady and branch

Super slow... it doesnt matter what time you get there it always three to four hour wait. I was third in line at 8:00am and never serviced. I asked Chris for my keys 11:00am and left.
