I decided to book Kelli Thomsen to do my hair and makeup for our wedding in early February 2020 because of her emphasis on skin care, clean beauty, and a natural bridal look. The trial run included with our package went really well; I was able to tell her exactly how I wanted my hair and makeup to look on the day-of. We experimented with different colors and finishes, and she took thorough notes during the entire process. The trial run was super important, because I could wear the updo and makeup all day to see if any hair pins were falling out or if I did not like the makeup in certain lighting. After the trial, I wrote her an extensive email about my thoughts, and she was very responsive to them. On the day-of the wedding, she was able to adjust my final hair and makeup to exactly what I wanted, and it was perfect! My hair and makeup lasted the entire day from 5am to midnight! In addition, I was impressed with the professional set-up (professional lighting and makeup chairs) and schedule that Kelli had made for us on the morning of the wedding. There was a total of 7 of us that needed hair and makeup services and she brought another makeup artist and two dedicated hairstylists along with her to make the process run more smoothly. Kelli is such a gem! When I was looking to book a wedding makeup artist it was important that they were not only a makeup pro but also a skincare pro. Kelli is both of those, and on top of that she has such a warm and genuine spirit! I immediately felt as ease when I met her. I only know makeup basics and I never style my hair beyond a quick blow dry....so it was important that I still look like myself but elevated. During my trial run she executed my vision (which I struggled to put into words!) absolutely beautifully! All of my communication with her has been prompt, caring and professional. Plus, I’m using skincare lines she recommends and my skin is so much happier because of it! (If I lived locally in Portland I would definitely be scheduling skincare services from her at her studio!)On top of all of that, my wedding had to be rescheduled (covidbride) and she quickly communicated with me on backup date availability for 2020, no extra fees for the changed date, and promptly created an updated contract. I came in with my best friend and we had the greatest time. The results are amazing, I got a lite chemist peel and I felt like million bucks!!! Kelli gave us insightful advice on what are the next steps we should do to take care of our faces at home. Kelli was absolutely amazing. I went to her for a facial and she was able to troubleshoot my problem areas and give me suggestions on what I need to do moving forward. Afterwards my skin felt like it could breathe again! She made me feel comfortable and was super relatable. Her services were fantastic. She was even able to recommend me to a laser specialist to help me address a broken blood vessel issue that has bothered for me for years. I would and will recommend her to all my friends.

Kelli is amazing!! She is so sweet and and truly cares about all of her brides and clients. Kelli and her team did such a great job with makeup and hair at my wedding for myself plus my 6 bridesmaids. She was very organized and everything turned out perfectly!! I would definitely recommend her :)

I wish I could give Kelli a higher review considering her delightful personality on the phone, but our overall interaction with Kelli communicated that the money/contract meant more to her than the customer.Unfortunately, our original wedding date was June 12th, 2020, which was right in the middle of the lockdowns. We tentatively looked to September 12th, and when we reached out to Kelli, we made it clear that the date was very tentative and that we didn’t even know how many people would have services done. Kelli gave us no indication that this would be a problem, so we signed the contract. We unfortunately regret that deeply.Due to circumstances out of our control thanks to the pandemic, we had to move the wedding date again to July 18th. All of our vendors except Kelli were extremely flexible with the second switch. Kelli stated that she was unavailable and could not refund our payments since she had already allowed us to move our wedding date once (she had not communicated this policy to us previously). We had already paid approximately two-thirds of the contract (estimated for the maximum amount of people we would have had services for) but did not pursue a refund further.Cue September, we got a notification from Kelli that the remaining balance was due. We were shocked that she expected us to make the final payment (a total of over $1600) for absolutely no services. We inquired, and she insisted that she was owed the entire balance without providing anything in return. This was not communicated to us at any point previously. She eventually conceded that she could provide services (like facials) in her salon, but at this point, we felt too uncomfortable with the situation to continue a relationship with Kelli.Unfortunately, this comes down to our own failure for signing a contract before we were 100% committed. I guess we expected more flexibility from Kelli considering every other vendor was extremely understanding and flexible with their contracts during a pandemic that has impacted everyone. We understand covid-19 lockdowns have caused a huge deficit for many small businesses, but Kelli communicated (whether intentionally or not) that despite the unprecedented and unpredictable times, the customer must take the financial brunt of a circumstance outside of everyone’s control.I will not be recommending Kelli to any other brides considering that a flexible vendor is one of the best assets during the current times. I am sure she would have done a lovely job on our hair and makeup, but she did not make an extremely stressful time easier with the amount of miscommunication and unwillingness to negotiate an equitable solution.

Kelli did my makeup for my wedding and I was beyond pleased with my experience from beginning to end! From the get go, Kelli accommodated me and made me feel at ease - just days before my wedding I needed to shift my appt time to be a little earlier in the day and she reassured me “she was there for me” and was able to accommodate my request. Kelli provided the most relaxing and supportive environment while she did my makeup and this set the tone for the rest of the day. I was so pleased with my wedding makeup appt that I later returned to see Kelli for a skin consultation/makeup lesson. I feel so lucky to have had Kelli be a part of my wedding day and highly highly recommend her to anyone needing make up services, skin care services, and more!

Kelli is going to be the makeup artist for my best friends wedding, and Im so glad she is! When we first met, I shared skin concerns when doing professional makeup. Within five minutes of speaking to me, Kelli put me on to all natural makeup lines & I have not put anything else on my face since! Later, I reached out to Kelli to learn the basics of a full-face, natural look. She walked me through each step, showed me what to do using her own face & had me follow along on mine. She was so patient when answering all my questions. In a short time, Kelli has become my makeup & skincare consultant, and I would not have it any other way... Im counting down the days until she can do my makeup for the wedding!

Based on photos, Kelli is undoubtedly a talented make up artist, but I will never know personally. She was booked to provide bridal party makeup services for a wedding I am in that was scheduled for the end of March. Unfortunately, the week before the wedding, COVID-19 restrictions were put in place and the wedding was postponed to July. By that point, we had all paid in full for her services, but no worries - she agreed to reschedule to a new date in July. Great! The bride signed a new contract with a July date.Fast forward to now... the venue has all but indicated they will not be hosting weddings in July. The bride reached out to Kelli for rescheduling options, but Kelli had limited availability that did not fit what we were looking for and she wanted to charge us an additional fee (keep in mind we had paid in full for hair and makeup back in March). So, our only option was to look for a new makeup artist. We requested to terminate the July contract and obtain a refund.Kelli is refusing to issue a refund, stating the full amount paid is her non-refundable retainer. She is also stating the COVID-19 pandemic and closure of the venue in July is not an unforeseen circumstance and that our request for a refund is a Client cancellation, so she is under no obligation to refund.Im sure Kelli has her own spin on this and will defend herself in any way she can, but it comes down to this: we had an awful experience trying to reschedule services and now we have to decide if we want to take this to small claims court. No doubt, times are tough for the wedding industry, but we have all been impacted financially by whats going on. So do you want to put your money (and sanity) in the hands of someone who only looks out for themselves in a time of uncertainty? Especially when there are so many wonderful hair and makeup artists out there who are willing to work with their clients.

Kelli has been my esthetician for several years now and if she ever tries to close up shop Ill chain myself to her front door! She always knows what my skin needs to look its best, and her treatments leave my skin glowing and revived. I literally cant wait until I can get back in for an eye treatment! Pandemic under eye circles are a thing.She never pushes products or regimens, but instead waits for me to tell her what Im looking, then she asks a handful of questions so she makes sure I get what I need, not just what I think sounds right. (This has been especially helpful during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place thats kept our communication to text messages.)Ive also had Kelli do my hair and make-up for events and shes nailed it, one time going as far as literally giving me a lipstick for touch ups. Ive also recommended her to two friends for hair and makeup on their wedding day and they couldnt stop gushing. (They also looked AMAZING.)Kelli is a true professional who will bend over backwards to make sure her clients are taken care of. Id recommend her to anyone, anytime.

Where do I even start on my experience working with Kelli? I was an elopement bride from the east coast and found Kelli through social media. She was such a pleasure to work with from afar (and patient while I worked out scheduling specifics with my photographer), that I felt I was working with a friend before we’d ever met face to face. She arrived early morning (6:15am to be exact) and on time. She has cheerful, upbeat energy. She was a doll toward our dog that we brought along for our special day, she reviewed my preferences or “vision” while setting up, she was immaculately clean and sterile (thanks, COVID), and she absolutely NAILED my bridal makeup. I’m very particular, but it was perfection. I felt beautiful and confident and my groom loved that I look like a perfected, natural version of myself (He was actually concerned when he learned I was hiring a professional MUA). Kelli finished right on time and was packed up and outta there in a flash to keep the morning moving quickly so we could get to our venue. Even my photographer (@adventureinstead) loved Kelli’s work and demeanor so much they said they’d be adding her to their Portland vendor recommendations. My only disappointment is that I don’t live close enough to use Kelli’s esthetician services to maintain my skin.

How do you even start to say thank you to the person who had one of the most important jobs on your wedding date and blew your expectations? I think choosing who I wanted to do my makeup was by far the hardest choice to make. When I saw Kellis work, I knew I wanted her to do my makeup. When I met Kelli, I knew I had made the right choice! Her energy was everything I needed on my wedding day, she just made me feel so much less stressed and had me laughing. All my bridesmaids adored her and her assistant. We all loved all makeup, even at the end of an extremely long day. I also got a facial prior to my wedding day and I will defiantly be going back to see her to care for my face. Thank you Kelli for making us all feel so beautiful on the wedding day.

My personal experience was very poor with Kelli. I did not hire her so I am only speaking on the interactions we had in the hiring process. She ignored my emails repeatedly, did not answer my questions, did not ask my communication preferences but pushed me to set up a free call with her and then said I cost her business when I had to cancel.Our final interaction was this: She said she wasnt available, and then accused me incorrectly of cancelling on her 3 times (never apologized) followed by saying she would be hesitant to refer me to any other artists due to my behavior. After I told her she was remembering wrong, she then said she was actually available if I was still interested.

I booked Kelli to do my, my mothers and my sister-in-laws hair and makeup for my wedding in July 2019.Kelli is exceptionally proficient at what she does and is a genuinely wonderful person.I wanted to look my best in person and in photographs. But, I very rarely wear makeup. Knowing what colors, application techniques, and products would help me look my best, plus what looking my best would actually look like was hard to both envision and express. Kelli helped me figure that out through patient experimentation and made it a reality on my wedding day. Im someone who is a little anxiety prone. So, the testing and trial process built trust that meant I would have zero makeup-associated stress on the big day. Her knowledge and experience made it possible to create a look that was tailor-made for my skin, my face, and my features as they are. There was zero cakey face. I felt awesome. Her work was excellent.I should add- my mother (~55) was also a bit nervous about makeup for the wedding as she can be a bit self-conscious about the appearance of her mature skin. My mother was also thrilled with the look Kelli created for her at my wedding and how Kelli treated and prepped her skin, which looked glowy and wonderful in pictures and in person.Besides the quality of her work, Kelli is an absolute joy to be around. She is a positive, thoughtful, patient, caring person. Im glad she was a part of my wedding.
