Two of my grandchildren ages 7 & 10, were enrolled in the Sylvan Learning plans by their fathers to receive some much needed help with academics. the 7 yr old was dissengaged with reading because she could sound out letters individually but she had an extremely hard time with forming them into the word. This child struggled, but in a matter of 8 months or so attending and working the program, i am excited and proud to listen to her be able to breakdown and sound out words. She is able to read small books to us now and keep up with the flow of them. She has a light in her eyes now with reading that was not there before and she participates in her classroom discussions now because she is engaged with the learning. The 10 year old did not need as much assistance, however, the areas they were able to help him in to gain more confidence in learning is amazing to say the least because he too is participating more in his classes. Im amazed at what Sylvan helped to accomplish in such a short amount of time with these children. I definitely recommend this program to families. Its a process and it didnt happen overnight, but I saw a tremendous change in less that an month and it is continuing. Thank you Sylvan for aiding us in giving these children a fighting chance and helping to renew their excitement for learning. We will continue to work your program with them as we know this is an ongoing process.

Ive been impressed with Sylvan of Portages success with my daughter in getting her caught up with her math work. This subject has been a struggle for awhile, but not enough to fall behind in school. With the pandemic and so much being missed in the Spring, that was the straw that broke the camels back. The extra assistance from Sylvan is getting her back on track and more confident in her math skills.

With all the craziness the pandemic has brought, education took quite a hit. Im one of the few parents that didnt feel any worry in that category. My sons education is well looked after when the public school system is stretched extremely thin. Its a little expensive, but definitely worth it. The tutors are so sweet and kind. They definitely earn my highest praise!

My son started going to Sylvan a month ago to keep him up to date on math skills before school starts. He loves the Math edge program and finds it fun learning. Brent is an especially good coach. My son told me that all the concepts are explained very well. The first day he came home and he grasped the concept of division and multiplication in a single session. Lucy and Zondra do a great job of managing parent concerns and figuring out student needs and tailoring the right programs. Price is very affordable for the personalized attention given to each child. Great going!

My son has been attending for about 6 weeks. Times are convenient and flexible. Their token system is motivating for my son who loves to earn prizes. The staff is friendly and regularly update us on his progress.

Really disappointed. Took the assessments after issues getting scheduled, said I had reimbursement to get tutoring and arranged for them to contact me to set it up. They never called back. They were late to every zoom meeting and point of contact and clearly didnt want my childrens business.

The staff is very patient with my son. We are having an amazing experience. He’s excited to read and looks forward to his weekends with Sylvan!

My son, Kaymen has really enjoyed learning about Algebra at Sylvan Learning. He loves all the teachers he’s worked with and says they are very nice. I have definitely seen a change in his attitude about math starting this school year out.

It has been a great experience, from the initial phone conversation to the first day my daughter started. My daughter says, I like Sylvan and always seem to be enthusiastic to go on tutor days. My son is taking Math Tutoring and College Study courses at Sylvan and I have seen how it has benefited him greatly. He enjoys going to the tutoring sessions, which is surprising because he doesnt like doing schoolwork at his age. I believe the Portage Sylvan tutors have been able to encourage and help him to prepare for his future. The facility is very accommodating to our schedule and they were able to test him and properly place him at the academic level he needed to be at, yet he was able to excel to higher levels with their tutoring.

Realizing your child needs some extra help can be a hard thing for a parent to accept. From the initial meeting I have felt welcomed by the staff and supported in making sure my child is growing in her study skills, confidence and overall academics. We have had scheduling issues due to extracurricular activities and Jenni and Melissa go out of their way to try and accommodate the students. That in itself has been a lifesaver! The investment I am making in my child is going to keep her motivated as she enters high school. Thank You Sylvan staff for allowing me to breathe and realize that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Both of my sons started attending Sylvan in Portage in May for writing tutoring. Ive been very impressed by how happy the boys are to go to Sylvan, and with the flexibility of scheduling. I feel that the program had a good system to teach the boys (and reinforce what they do in school) how to write a paper (organizational and editing steps). Hopefully, writing will be easier for them (and their parents!) in middle school and high school this fall. Time will tell! Sylvan offered free tokens for a 5 star review, which is why Im writing this now and not after Ive seen some improvements at school. At this point, I would definitely use Sylvan again for any tutoring needs.

Sylvan is a fun and interesting. we are always having fun and we all get along with each other. It is helping me in school. I would say it has the best teachers. They are very helpful if you get stuck you can count on them to help you. They can also help with your homework.

My daughter really enjoys going to Sylvan for Math and Reading. As a mom it is great to see the progress reports and the improvements that she is making in such a short period of time. It has built her confidence and she now enjoys doing homework.

Both of my middle school students have grown tremendously since we began using Sylvan in Portage. The staff at this location are very welcoming and relate well with the kids. My kids never fuss or argue with us when its time to go to their appointment. They come along willingly, and happily. I cant say enough about what a difference Sylvan has made.

I started going to Sylvans Portage location in May. I came in not knowing much about the fundamentals of math. Various tutors went back through basic concepts with me so I could apply them in more advance problems. I am now going into my senior year, and have obtained a firmer grasp of math concepts than I have at any point in my educational journey. The tutors and directors are all amazing and always make you feel comfortable and important. I tell all my friends about Sylvan!

My son absolutely LOVES going to Sylvan!!!! Couldnt be happier to see him excited to go to tutoring. I know it helped him get where he needed to be before the end of the school year and now hopefully he will start out the next school year with no struggles. The Directors are helpful and very caring. My son started his program at sylvan last summer, but needed to take a break to do some other therapy. They were so flexible with allowing us to bank the hours and come back to finish his program this summer. He loves working with the teachers and the individual attention has really helped him learn skills that he has struggled with in a traditional classroom setting. I have nothing but great things to say about Sylvan. I highly recommend Sylvan to any parent and student struggling and needs that extra attention.

My husband and I have both of our children at the Sylvan Learning Center in Portage. They go twice a week and it is never a struggle to get them to go. My son is in first grade and started at Sylvan to help with reading, and is now in Sylvans Math Edge program. The other day when a new math concept was introduced to the class my son was excited because he had already learned the concept at Sylvan. My sons self-esteem about school and his academics have both improved since starting at the Sylvan Learning Center. Not only do they have a great program but the staff are always positive and encouraging, along with having a willingness to work collaboratively with my sons school and teacher to further promote his success.

My son was falling behind in Kindergarten and Sylvan has not only caught him up in school but also boosted his confidence so much. We see such an improvement, it literally bring tears to our eyes watching our son go from struggling to raising his hand because he knows the answer! Price is a little high but I am still giving them a 5 star rating because it is so so worth it! My son is actually excited to learn at Sylvan when before we couldnt even get him to try...Thank you Sylvan for everything you have done for our Family!

The individualized program is excellent. My Grandson advanced close to a grade level in reading during the 100 hour summer program. His confidence has improved, and he is even more interested in reading. Updating 7/18/18-my Grandson is continuing in his 4th summer of reading and Math at Sylvan. He came home excited that he had learned how to figure common denominators in adding and subtracting fractions. He continues to say its fun.

I think that Sylvan is a great place for learning. They have all the topics you need and very nice teachers. Finally, if you behave you can earn tokens to spend on cool prizes like toys or gift cards.

Ive been going to Sylvan for about a year now and I knew I was smart but I was behind my classmates and I needed to get back on track and Sylvan helped me get back on track with my study skills like time management and math skills.

My daughter has be been going to Sylvan since the end of school and absolutely loves it. Her cconfidence in reading has skyrocketed since she started going. The teachers are wonderful.

Exactly what we needed. My 12 year old son is very intelligent, but being in a foreign orphanage his first three years put him way behind academically, added to this he has severe attention issues. He was falling so far behind that the school was starting to talk about a certificate instead of a diploma. Long story short, we pulled him from public school and went with intense (4 hours a day, three days a week) with one on one tutoring. He is now at his reading comprehension level and is finally starting to grasp math - he can now add and subtract multi-digit numbers with ease, and learning/working on his multiplying, dividing, fractions etc. are no longer blah, blah, blah. He actually ENJOYS learning and has gone from looking forward to a future job as a Walmart greeter (his thought, not mine) to a maybe he could be an engineer because he likes building and figuring out how things work. The staff have been amazingly supportive and HONEST about where he is and where he is struggling, giving me ideas of how to help him at home. It has simply saved this boys life.

Sylvan has helped me with writing by helping me with confidence with writing, grammar, and helping me with taking my time with writing.Sylvan has helped with many things throughout these months I have been with them. Grammar was a big thing I needed help with and with them my grammer has risen faster than when I was in eighth grade. With adjectives, nouns and verbs are key to grammar skills and they have helped with that tremindly. They have helped me with ron-ons and fragments because these guys involve many things that can make or break a story. Finally, they helped me with synonyms and antonyms. Before I would use words that are the same words over and over again.Taking my time is a huge thing they have helped me with over these months. I used to rush on my writings and I knew that was bad but I did feel like taking the time. At Sylvan before I even write I have to create an outline and prepare for the writing. They have me spend weeks on end writing this paper to perfect my story, unlike school where I get a week if I am lucky. During this phase as well I have many stages and revisions from teachers before I get close to the final printing.Sylvan has helped me with confidence with writing. With the advances in grammar I am more confidence that I am doing these things right. They have built my confidence that been fast is not important and you don’t have to be first. Finally, they help me with think long and hard about my writing.Sylvan has helped me in many ways and they have improved my grammar, taking my time, and my confidence in writing.

My son is now a Engineering Student at WMU. Back between 1st and 2nd grade, he had a real problem and only tested at the kindergarten level. One summer of Sylvan and he tested right up with the other 2nd graders. Besides keeping him with his class, I believe Sylvan taught him valuable studying techniques that helped him reach the point he is at now. Thanks to Sylvan my son became confident in himself!

I have seen a vast improvement in the way that my daughter, Arianna Coleman, views school. She is excited to be starting a new school year at a new school and can not wait to put the skills she has learned here at Sylvan to work.

When I came into sylvan my math was not that great im in fifth grade and have been at sylvan for 5 months and I went from my math still being at a 4th grade level to my math now being at a 5th grade level and instead of me needing help I am the one helping other kids.

That it funny to learn and the teachers are really helpful and really nice.
