We are fairly new to Jiu Jitsu and Paul does an excellent job of breaking down a very complex sport. His passion is very evident and he treats everyone with equal respect. As a woman it can be very intimidating but Paul is an experienced teacher and his wife Brandi is the perfect bonus every gym needs. Both Paul and Brandi are humble enough to not smash you, which makes them great rolling partners and even better teachers.We have 5 children, 4 of whom train with Paul. They fell in love with Paul and his way of teaching before they fell in love with Jiu Jitsu. They love learning from him and all the kids know that he cares about that them. My boys are smaller for their age and Paul has been a great role model for them, size isnt everything, which is obvious after watching Paul roll.My daughter is a pretty timid person and Jiu Jitsu has been a great place for her to learn that she can be confident and stand behind what she has to say. Im grateful for the support and guidance that Paul has given to my children, an added bonus The Base provides. Jiu Jitsu isnt just a sport for Paul its a way of life.Male or female, young or old the base is the best place to start or continue your Jiu Jitsu training.

Its the best gym ive ever been to. The facility is probably the cleanest in Idaho. The people are all good. I would recommend to a family member.

Ive been training for 13 years at this point, training all over and with a lot of different people, but Paul has always stood out as a practitioner, coach, mentor, and human. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere with phenomenal instruction.

My husband and I and our 3 kids traveled through and had the privilege of training with Paul at The Base Jiu Jitsu in Pocatello. I came thinking wed get a good workout and then go about our weekend business, but the wisdom and the mindset shift I gained after rolling and talking with Paul in that short time was nothing short of amazing. He helped me overcome some anxiety and technical issues I was having in the sport and since returning, I have been able to actually implement those tools. If our family lived in the area, wed absolutely make this jiu jitsu school our home. Not only was Pauls perspective so encouraging to myself and my daughters, but the facility is top notch and uber clean. I was really amazed with everything. The owner Paul, took the time to give a tour of the facility and talk to me about my goals in Jiu-Jitsu.That alone would have been enough!But the mat space!! This is one of the highest quality mat systems around and is definitely the cleanest gym I’ve ever been in. Add to that an amazing instructor, and great schedule. I can’t wait to train here more!

Competition tested Jiu Jitsu! Prof. Paul and his family are deeply rooted in the nw Jiu Jitsu community and i for one am proud to be associated with him. As a practitioner he is right there in the mix with the best guys in his division, as a coach and teacher he is passionate and experienced. The Base is the Premier homegrown jiu jitsu team in the northwest and Professor Paul is one of the main reasons for this. His skills and leadership are second to none. The facilities are kept clean and sanitary. I could not recommend The Base more.

Thanks to Paul for opening his gym to me while I was on work travel. A clean facility with a large mat space, gear cubbies, changing rooms, and a comfortable sitting area out front. He provides excellent instruction with a well thought curriculum.

The Base provides exceptional jiu jitsu instruction (for kids, teens, and adults) in a terrific training environment.Professor Paul does an excellent job of molding his instruction to the individual student; giving direction, encouragement, and discipline as needed. Hes just terrific... and his school follows suit.

My kiddo has been training with Paul since May 2018 and we will follow him anywhere. He is so wonderful with the kids and my child has learned so much from him!

The base and the people within both trainers and people training are awsome!!! It was a little scary to try something new, however everyone was so welcoming to not only myself but for my 9year old son as well! After only a couple classes it felt like family. And Im proud to say that it is one of the main things my son looks forward to going to everyday we can!!The knowledge that the main instructor paul has about jujitsu really is actually crazy but in a good way. Haha myself and my son Couldnt be happier to have tried jujitsu and to have started it all with the base!!!!

Ive trained for 9 years and The Base is my favorite gym! Its clean and bright, and looks professional. The instruction from Paul is much the same, his jiu jitsu is clean and precise. While the techniques are taught in a way that is easy to understand, they also hold up and succeed at the highest level of competition. Paul is a kind man who invests in his students jiu jits and their lives. If youre going to train anywhere in south east Idaho this is the spot to do it
