I worked with Corey Richardson for two years as an extern and staff clinician while pursuing my PhD in Clinical Psychology. During this time, Corey supervised me while treating a variety of populations including children, adolescents, adults, Individuals with severe mental illness and incarcerated individuals recovering from addiction. Prior to this experience, I had never worked with substance abuse, but with Coreys guidance this is now an area of strength for me.Corey is a highly skilled, empathetic and seasoned clinician. Because of his compassionate stance, he is equally strong at treating children, adults, individuals in recovery and those with severe mental illness. Under his supervision, I learned many tools and skills for treating children and adolescents. Many of these tools I hadnt previously been exposed to, such as sand tray therapy, narrative therapies and many others. Corey’s vast array of creative tools and games helped me tremendously in reaching my young clients. His naturally compassionate stance also lends itself well to treating trauma, which I was able to observe while running groups together. In supervision, Corey is generous with ideas for how to intervene in challenging situations. However, what I appreciated most about him was his flexibility and support. He really encouraged me to pursue the best version of my own clinical style. As a result, I am a much more competent clinician. Coreys consistent support has also helped me to become a firmly supportive therapist for my own clients. Moreover, his genuine nature allows for a real human connection which easily promotes growth with both clients and supervisees. Furthermore, he helped me learn how to manage extensive amounts of documentation without compromising my quality of treatment. As a result, administrative work is now a strength which continues to serve me well.I feel deeply grateful to have benefited from Corey’s experience, skill and care. I recommend him without hesitation. Anyone would benefit from having Corey on their team, or as their therapist.
