We used J Francis to remodel our home including projects to redesign our garage, kitchen, master bedroom and our kids play room. J Francis and our Designer Jessie were outstanding to work with. They are VERY responsive, professional and catered to our needs with managing the multiple projects around our lives/kids and in the middle of the pandemic.We really enjoyed working with them and would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a design to build professional. Jessies creativity added value to our home and the projects were finished on time. Their quality of work is top notch with an eye to detail.

J. Francis did a complete remodel of the basement of our ranch-style home. The scope of the large project included a game room, pub, laundry room, gym, storage room and a small wine cellar. If I could give J. Francis a whole constellation of stars I would. Ive been working with their team for more than a decade doing all things that need doing on our old rowhouse. I met them when our architect advised us to find a general contractor who could handle EVERYTHING -- from installing a structural beam (handy when our back wall collapsed) to gorgeous finish carpentry. Roof, gutters, windows, tile, built-ins, wallpaper, carpet, custom concrete, millwork and steel, hardwood decking, name it and they did it. But what makes J. Francis really special is their incredible dependability. They come when they say theyre coming. They suggest a range of solutions and the process around estimates and billing is transparent and fair. They clean up on their way out. If something isnt quite right they come right back to fix it. And best of all, they respond whenever a problem arises. In fact right now theyre in the basement, replacing our pre-historic furnace. This is an exceptional company filled with lovely and talented people. Working with J. Francis is one of the best decisions Ive ever made.

J. Francis worked with us to design and build a complete basement remodel, plus two full bathrooms. They were knowledgeable about specific issues with our old home and all requirements that would need to be met to pass inspections. The paid attention to details and let us know immediately about any problems that would cause a change order (like unlevel floors, unique subflooring, plumbing issues, etc.). Theyre not cheap, and they use a lot of subcontractors to get the work done, but they do their best to find and hire quality people who truly care about the work theyre doing. If something isnt perfect (or close to it), they fix it. If you want your project done well and efficiently, then give J. Francis a call!

Everyone at J Francis including the owner, designer, production manager, and lead carpenter was great to work with! We worked with J Francis to relocate our kitchen and add a half bathroom and closet. They were patient with us and willing to work on our timeframe without pressuring us to move forward before we were ready. During the design phase, they thoroughly investigated potential issues before construction began. Our designer provided great insight and recommendations to help us choose materials for our kitchen. The whole team communicated well throughout construction, especially by holding virtual weekly meetings to discuss progress to date and the upcoming schedule. They were willing to work on our house that was built in 1928 involving rerouting utilities and framing to relocate our kitchen. We are very happy with the final product and highly recommend them!

We have done over 5 projects with the team at J. Francis that include some large ones like updating a kitchen, a gorgeous master closet room, and a Victorian porch on our historical home. We are in the midst of a major renovation that will turn the basement in our 1960 built, ranch-style home, that previously had only a finished game room complete with knotty pine paneling, into a downstairs with laundry room, gym, ‘pub’ and storage room along with a refurbished game room and spruced up garage and small wine cellar. To date the project has been seamless. Regular meetings with the principals and open communication assures we are all on the same page. It’s a great feeling having people that know what they are doing and ‘just do it’

Were using J Francis for a basement finishing project in an older (1949) home. Im writing this at the end of our Design Phase and Ill be updating this review over the next few months.I wanted to write this before the meat of the project even begins to explain how much I appreciate the process of working through design with J Francis. J Francis treats you like youre running a large business where having the details known up front is critical. Being able to work through all the details of what will be done right up front is incredibly valuable and something that I havent seen on offer from other companies for residential remodels. The transparency and clarity of where the project is going to go gives me a lot of confidence and peace of mind that the remodel will stay in budget. What a pleasure it is to have that kind of attention up front rather than making critical decisions as the construction plods along. There is a fee for this design work, but the final plans and detailed estimate generated, not to mention leaving fear and uncertainty behind is MORE than worth the cost.Im looking forward to the construction process and the final product!

In 1990, when John McCloskey was beginning his business, we took a chance and contracted him. The job encompassed a custom-built, cozy living room, full bath and a redesigned staircase, from an 85 year-old, tattered basement in our townhouse in Regent Square. The completed main room had two walls (24 ft) of beautifully milled, paneled oak closets for clothes and storage and he also designed the modern bath with glass block and white subway tile.It was a true work of art and when we sold the townhouse the buyer expressed that she bought it for our renovations in the lower level. And I may add our sales price was $45k higher than our neighbors, when they sold 8 years later.Years later when John was expanding his business to J Francis Company, LLC, I had the opportunity to design his new business logo, at my ad agency. My wife and I refer this business to our friends and clients with true confidence and look forward to working with them again on our next restoration project.

J Francis Company has hired my painting company to work with them in the past. We wont work with many general contractors as they are often poorly managed and you really get to see it on the contractor side. That is not the case with J Francis they are always ready on time for us to come in and all prior work is done before we get there.

We remodeled our kitchen, dining room and foyer with J Francis in mid 2020, through a particularly challenging construction period due to COVID precautions. They shy away from any type of quote or bid unless you are ready to build and commit to them - this is their quote We only design what we intend to build and only build what we have designed which is fine, but good luck getting a bid from them. Same as the last reviewer. Unprofessional and complete waste of both my time and the person I spoke with in the phone. I am completely new to this process and looking for an initial estimate for building an addition behind vs to the side of the house (which would impact the size we have to work with). They asked me a lot of questions, and then at the end, finally gave me broad pricing guidelines and said they only give estimates if we have a designer come to our house and pay a fee. If that information had been stated within the first 30 seconds of the call, we both would have been spared 15 minutes where the womans tone on the phone showed she wished she was doing anything else besides talking to me.

J. Francis is a great company to work with. They communicate well with both their customers and subcontractors. All the work is done in a neat and timely manner. All of the employees are polite, helpful, and courteous.

We enjoyed working with them to realize our designs, but ultimately chose not to use them. Our interactions were professional and they were our top choice, but ultimately we chose someone else. Cant wait to find a project that fits the company better.

J Francis has been a wonderful company to work with on our first floor remodel. Our designer / project manager has been creative and collaborative. She picked up on our personal style as well as the things we already liked about our home and came up with a selection of designs, cabinetry, colors, tiles, etc. that we found very easy to choose from. This was our 3rd time working with J Francis. The scope of this project was installing Hardie siding on the house, replacing most windows, and improvement attic insulation. As has been the case in all projects, the J Francis team is incredibly attentive, respectful, and skilled at what they do. Our family has loved having Doug (the daily GC) around the house.The project was 85% done when covid hit. The team communicated clearly and when it was safe and legal to get back to work they quickly finished things up. One thing to note about J Francis is they do a 6 month and 1 year check in after projects. So if you have any issues, you have multiple chances to raise them and correct them. We are very happy to have the new siding up and windows installed, it all looks great!The one downside was that we were not impressed with Pella throughout the process. They were eager to replace any non-Pella window in the house, even if they werent that old. Also, the existing Pella windows they said they could fix, they ended up not being able to unless we paid more.

One benefit of working with J Francis are the periodic follow-up walk throughs after the completion of the work. John, the owner, personally performs the walk throughs. There were a couple of issues that we pointed out to John at the 6 month walk through and without prompting, he immediately addressed the problems. Its hard to put a price on that level of service. Sometimes you get what you pay for and this is true with J Francis.

We met with John today with a quote and I really appreciated his time. He ball parked our project to be a bit higher than what we could assume would be the value of the house, but we have a big full gut rehab requiring absolutely everything, we arent even in the coolest or hippest of neighborhoods. If It was in our budget to hire him, we would of in a heartbeat. Even though it was determined we wouldnt be working together he continued to offer us advice and support on our project and told us to reach out to him in the future if we needed additional guidance in our selection process. I think this is suburb and unique for this industry. He continued to explain how vigorous his process is for hiring contractors to team with on projects. Well done! A+++

We are almost finished with our master bath and walk-in closet, designed and built by J. Francis Company, and are thrilled with the result. All J. Francis employees that have been in our home are on time, friendly, and meticulous about keeping their work area clean. We are going to finish the entire project about a month AHEAD of schedule.We did end up going about 10% over our inital budget/estimate, but the addtional expense related to several design changes we requested and also some unforseen circumstances of working on a 117 year old house (additional lead paint, coal dust, knob and tube, etc.) We also didnt bid out the work, so we maybe paid more than we otherwise would have, but you get what you pay for, and we are very happy with our master bath and closet!!
