I would like to thank Cass especially Richard Ashley and Carol, Sue, Andrew and any and all who have been going above and beyond to help my family. Unfourtantley due to covid a year ago my family and I (which is 3 kids 2 dogs my husband and i) became homeless lost our 4 bedroom house in the Avondale community, directly across from a park and my childrens school after my husband caught the virus and was in ICU for months fighting for his life. Being homeless has been by far the hardest thing Ive ever had to experience N it can happen to anyone. Weve slept in our car and wherever we could when we couldnt book a room in. Hotel for whatever reason. I was so hopeless and didnt know what to do after being on a long waiting list w umom and getting nowhere. I heard about the st Josephs program and thought Id check it out. Well it was truly a blessing. They have really changed my familys life of hopelessness to dreaming again. Thank you thank you thank you!!! ONE MORE THOUGHT TO SHARE. THE NAMES I LISTED HAVE A HUGE ❤ AND TRULY HAVE A REAL Passion to make a difference its not just a job to them. Its there purpose and Cass is really blessed to have them all working for them. Overall the shelter does a good job of handling the needs of the homeless. They offer identification, beds, dental, permanent housing and other related services. The surrounding lots around the shelter give additional organized outside living space for the homeless; tent communities while they go through the process of identifying the needs of each persons case. My only first hand compliant is the way I was treated. The staff and security need to be a lot more compassionite when dealing with the homeless. Every person and circumstance that they became homeless is different. The process of navigating through the services available for getting the help you need is very confusing and a little compassion would make the already traumatic experience a little easier.

I give 5 just because of the staff and understanding security. I ended up here because of covid and lost my apt. The government didnt off me squat when it came to food stamps.. Since i made more than enough money according to the state while living in this shelter still. However i managed to save up money for the 3 months they offerd to house me for free. Not a 5 star hotel lets be clear.. But its a stepping stone to where you need to go. Theres 2 kinds of people, those who try and keep trying and those that give up. I made it and i came out in top. Drugs infest the streets as well as hopelessness. But again its up to you do what you have to to make it out on top...

Out of all the shelters I have visited for work this one is the best. It’s basically a 1 stop shop. They help you get on your feet, they have dental and doctors. They have a day center and 3 meals a day. Laundry and showers. They have job placement and a vet center. They have mental health facilities as well. Ive never stayed there (I have an apartment about a mile away) but I used to frequent the campus for the free food at St. Vincent de Paul. If you like the arbitrary exercise of authority by badge-heavy rent-a-cops with unresolved microphallic issues, then this is your place. I am now eating at Andre House across the street which seems just as safe to me, without all that petty bull****.If you are a better-off person with philanthropic tendencies who wishes to make a donation, the four-star Andre House is a much more worthy candidate. They treat people who are down on their luck and who need a helping hand like theyre human beings instead of criminals. Despite my low station in life, I have always been treated with the utmost respect there. Its the only place Ive ever seen Christians act like Christians.

Im going to agree with most of the reviews about the staff. Im pretty sure most of them dont know anyone who have been forced to live there for whatever reason or circumstances have come up in their lives to make them homeless, but we are still Human Beings, and deserve to be treated as such.I will agree about the towels. The other night I was maybe 20ish people in the line, but, by the time I got up to get a towel and sheet, the towels were gone. It was then suggested, by the employee handing them out, to sleep on the sheet and use it to dry off in the morning. Last night, I was able to get a towel, with a sheet, but the sheet was torn down the middle when I unrolled it. However, was given another one upon going back to where they were being handed out.I will, however, give FIVE STARS to the clinic on the property! I came onto CASS with a blister on my left foot, and two on my right. And I was also very emotional, and had left my glasses on the grass when I decided I couldnt walk and dialed 911, at which time I lost my glasses. Not only did the Dr talk to me while replacing the bandages on my feet, but the Social worker, Donna, spoke with me, and also offered to stop where the paramedics picked me up to look for my glasses. Unfortunately, they werent to be found. But, the gesture was so nice, and it helped me come out of my depression.Make of CASS what you will, but, in the long run, it was a blessing for me.

I felt that the staff who guided us were sincere in helping the homeless, and it was an honor and privilege to package check-list items into grocery bags for homeless families--household goods for their new apartment and food to stock their pantries. I felt like CASS was making a difference, and still do!PLEASE DONATE prescription bottles to CASS--These clean bottles are used to fill with shampoo, conditioner, etc. for homeless individuals to have a weeks supply. This charity is in need of dollars--please give if you feel so led.PLEASE also donate clean/good smelling clothes. Sorting clothes was the most difficult part of my volunteer work. Imagine if you found yourself homeless, how much you would appreciate a clean, good smelling clothing item! :-) Thank you CASS for serving Phoenix! God bless you all...

My dislike for this place does not matter and it is only the final result that is important. How well I do depends on me, however the people who work here especially in security are less than one paycheck away from living here. But somehow the importance of money as far as not chancing their employment by doing the right thing with people never cross their minds what left of them. A lot of cruel unhappy workers make everything much more difficult. Care for peple besides the way they care for the next paycheck doesnt happen at cass. Some remain neutral and do their job fairly but none step up to care about changes or best results as far as whats best for people. Reaching out or finding answers doesnt matter. My opinion slowly has changed over the two or three months.

I was one of the younger people to have come through CASS early 2017, even had a nice little van at the time to get me around and no it wasn’t perfect by any means. So, I was allowed to park there for some time while looking for work etc and one day out of thin air after they’d allowed me to sleep in the van rather than getting sick inside like I had been, they just had me get up and go, even though I was totally registered and permitted to be there. There’s just too many problems, that aside, going into the place. “Counselors/Case Management” have as much compassion and sympathy as a cock roach and wanna wait just as long as section 8 for housing to come through? DON’T! I did the smart thing as I advise others who are homeless and around my age, “You have options while you’re still young so quit pitter pattering around CASS waiting for a drop of water from the heavens to fill you, and go seek out youth programs/young adult fare that can help cover your most basic necessities that can be hard to fulfill: Need for clean water, decent food not scraps of jail like food, clothes to actually get the job, and a roof over your head.” The best way to overcome this place and move beyond the painstaking A holes security is is to have just enough resourcefulness and determination and not settling for less than your worth. Are you worth being crammed in with a bunch of other homeless people and risk violence outside of the shelter in the daytime? Are you worth just taking what child food slop you can settle for? Are you worth getting into bad habits, drugs, smoking all around here? I’m not going to say if you have any love for yourself don’t come here but it is something like that. Check out less-rough shelters around Phoenix or if you absolutely must find things out the hard way come on in to CASS.....

Downtown Phoenix is over flooded with homeless, beggers, lunatics, and just out right disgusting dirty smelly sick people crowding businesses, hotels, bar/restaurant entrances, parking lots, busy high foot traffic corners, alleys and benches. Do not give these people money on the streets, donate money, clothing, or unwanted non perishable foods to this homeless shelter so they can expand it so they dont have what they call over flow, which means that people literally have to sleep in the surrounding parking lots, streets, alleyways, train tracks, sidewalks, benches, parks or dumpsters while they wait for available services if you really want to make a difference. If you give these people money on the street, it helps them only momentarily instead of giving them resources at the shelter which may benefit them the rest of their lives.

I have found it was an alright, not in any way great experience here, but it was a godsend I had this place when I was 20 years old to take showers everyday (mens showers had red on the walls that looked like blood so I avoided that part), bunks that werent anything I could complain about (hella better than sleeping on concrete as I was doing), and it was basically my introduction to Phoenix shelters because I couldnt stand half the Tucson ones that I still call bible-shoving, though I am Christian myself I dont condone mandatory bible service 1 to 2 hours every day! Lets see: The security guards still suck as I remember them for a year 2017-2018, people are fairly chill though you do see their struggles obviously, the food is what you expect of food catering to the homeless so nothing new there, and the services provided within the campus are alright, nothing spectacular mind you. Its a wild place all-around but if youre lucky the best you can hope for is making a friend or two and it feels pretty nice to have people there who you can relate to in some way. Bless these people working here for what they do, and while I hope to never have to return here I feel like a better person altogether for enduring the goods and bads of CASS!

This shelter does so much for the community. Being a homeless shelter, of course there will be circumstances such as theft or bad people to deal with and that is just life. This place does a great deal (and as much as they possibly can) to ensuring that such things are controlled and that it as safe and well kept as it possibly can be... I dont understand what a lot of these people writing bad reviews are expecting... it is a SHELTER not a hotel, and after touring and experiencing this place in person, I have to say that what they are doing for the community is great and generous... and blessed are those who continue to donate and volunteer here.

The people sucked and Im not talk8ng about the homeless. The folks who work behind the counter. Very rude. I feel they assume everyone who comes in there is homeless and dont deserve there help. I felt so degraded like I was nobody. I needed a bus pass for the week and was given there name. The lady behind the counter was talking 2 another employee and just ignored me. When they finally got done after a cple mins she finally acknowledge that I was standing there then very rudely said how can I help u? I asked if they had any bus passes and she said so rudely NO. I can only imagine how they treat the homeless. Nobody deserves 2b disrespected and GOD 4 bids she is eva in our place. If u dont like your JOB then find another especially when u take a job helping people is all 8m saying.

Theres a lady there named BarbaraHeavyset with glassesShe isnt there to help really at allI asked her to request a bag not be thrown out during what they call a cleaning day and of for any reason you need a bag not to be thrown out then make known. My bag was in fact no longer there for me. She also wouldnt allow me work status when I was working more than 32hrs per week.Shes either racist or just had something against me or she just is unprofessional with her help. Do not, I repeat do not go to her for any assistance. Also people steal there. You have to watch your things at all times. This place cant be the best place for shelter when you are trying to save some money and move into a new place. That was my purpose being there.

I dont think the shelter should kick people out at 7 and not let them come back in until 3 p.m. and I think they should do more

Cass saved my wifes life and mine. Dont listen to negative hype. ITS what YOU make of it here. there are very few places like this or in the tri-state area for that matter, one just has to know how to treat it,avoid negative people, listen to staff and security, and know how to act (build on yourself) ❤ Again admirable staff and great security, though 1 out of 10 in general are doing it out of obligation, THE REST MORE THAN MAKE UP FOR IT definitely, almost all shelter locations have one or two staff or security anyway like that. Use it what its meant for.👆 And you WILL succeed as a better and happier being. Dont listen to negative hype and build. Yes theres negative clients here, some drama yes but its handled in good ways and YOU dont have to be effected by it its all on you. Great resources here, use them. Namaste.
