Great place to workout and unwind from the day. Quiet and calm atmosphere π
I love this Y BUT they have lifted their mask policy during a National surge of Covid!
I havenβt been here, actually I donβt even live in America someone in this location tried to log into my windows account and I got a email saying someone tried to log in which showed me his IP address and I tracked it to here, you might wanna check who did that.
I love the Y. Been a member for 20 years, but if you want to be safe from Covid do not go there. People are wearing masks on their chins, mouth and nose exposed, no one disinfecting equipment, no staff supervision. I reported someone not wearing a mask, and after they were told to wear it, they just wore it on their chin. Next day two people with masks on chins, nose and mouth exposed. So the rules for masks and disinfecting are in place but there is no supervision or enforcement. If you are worried about Covid you should probably stay away.
Love going there
I will tell you something. There is a shortage of old, cool, hip looking buildings in Phoenix. At the Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA you will get to experience a real cool, old hip looking building. The entire place is so cool looking on the inside and built so differently from any new building you may see now and days.
Great gym. I come here in the mornings before work. I really enjoy the spin classes and there are always open treadmills. The indoor pool is great for lap swimming, and the lap swimming hours are amazing compared to some other facilities. Everyone is friendly, and they even provide towels, which is awesome.
The staff will ignore you if they find out you are an ASU student. The partnership seems to be a joke. Thankfully, I dont enjoy working out on the YMCA side so I avoid them. The equipment is old and outdated. The building itself needs to be updated. Its hard for me to write this review because I used to enjoy the fitness classes (especially yoga) very much years ago as an undergraduate student.
Great location for a YMCA. Plenty of parking (although youll need a parking permit, see the front desk) the pool is closed on Sunday but its nice and deep for diving. Any member of this Y has access to the ASU weights and basketball courts. Steam room and sauna for post workouts. A great hub for running downtown Phoenix.
Great looking area, well-taken care of and clean. This YMCA is a partnership with ASU and is used as their downtown fitness center. Nice building and great place to workout in the downtown. I like working out in the very early morning, and this wasnt open (during the summer) until 7AM - so I didnt visit as often as I would have liked too.
Very clean/tidy place, staff hospitality can be hit/miss, but very helpful no less.
I couldnt believe that for a big city like Phoenix you get a four lane pool in what looks like a small, cramped hallway! The facilities are small and the variety of classes are extremely limited. We are currently struggling financially and applied for a scholarship. We were seen right away and approved for a discounted family membership at $57 a month!! Back in Wisconsin, we paid $72 without a discount, we had a full course catalog that offered extensive classes all day and all night long. We had a huge pool with 10 lanes and a diving board, as well as a smaller warm water pool for smaller children to play in. Our facility in a small town was five times the size of that here in Phoenix. When we went to the pool to swim we couldnt even get in because all 4 lanes were taken. So if youre going for the indoor pool, dont waste your time. For $57 a month as a low income family, this was highway robbery and a complete scam. We immediately canceled our membership on the day we enrolled, but have yet to get our money back, which we paid in cash. As for the other YMCAs in the area, apparently they are just as small and limited in classes. Scottsdale pool is closed and Christown only has an outdoor pool. What a shame...
Lincoln Family Downtown YMCA has one of the best customer service Ive ever received!
Signed my daughter up for swim lessons last year and everyone and everything was very unorganized. Instructors were always late or sometimes they didnβt even know who was going to be teaching the class for the day. I thought that all of that chaos of the program was going to be a one time thing so I went ahead and gave it a second try and signed up my daughter for swim lessons again. Her first class started on a Monday at 10am and I was notified 40 minutes before class was suppose to start that it had been canceled (I was already there so I had to go back home) second day we show up right on time and again NO ONE seems to know what is going on. I finally get walked back up to the front desk where they tell me that class has been canceled AGAIN. I had to leave my name and number so that they could get back to me to see what will be happening with the program. I drove down there twice for nothing. I recommend for them not to advertise these classes online for specific dates until they know for sure who is going to be teaching them. Extremely unprofessional and a waste of time for my daughter and I.
For 8 years I paid membership, and was treated like anybody, even though Im disabled and use a scooter. Then when my insurance began paying, that made a big difference, a180. Now they treat me like an intruder, pretend to like me, if theres a treat around theyll look at me with such a bitter way. They are very unkind to me now. They dont even want me to use the free water that is supplied from the city,or an organization. Im elderly, and gave an old persons body, I need to use the facility for my Healthcare because it helps, under my health practioners orders. This is near my home,1 block. When I follow directions made by my doctor I obey, I have friends here, and cant drive anymore, otherwise I would leave. People like me,young and old if I were you ID theres anyplace else for you go there.
Had to bring my son down here for a YMCA aquatics meeting. Very pleasant people at the front desk, easy to find, and ample parking in the rear of the building. Right on 1st Avenue, so its centrally located to pretty much everything in Phoenix.
The ASU side might be nice but the older side is a dump and in need of repair. Even if you tell management about things that are broken its a very slow process..even safety concerns in the mens locker room.. and then to make it worse s day pass is now $15, I wouldnt mind paying that if the place was clean and nice.
I just quit after 23 years itβs really declined the last 5 years. Itβs dirty, unmaintained, no training for the staff the management is lacking in all areas they just raised the personal training 35 % so plan on paying 70 an hour for that . .they been raising the the monthly steadily the last 3 years . All in all a big disappointment
This location is very nice; however, my 14 year old son and I were hoping for a big outdoor pool like many of the YMCA locations in Las Vegas have. It appears they have a lit of room to add a nice big pool (of course I say this not knowing the legalities), but it would make this location 5 Stars!
Pretty good gym, but tried to scam me when I cancelled my membership. All too common with gyms these days. Luckily I caught it on my credit card statement.
If you are closing it donβt charge the members the full amount if we canβt even use the gym.
I stayed at the Y for quite a while. The rooms were clean, it was affordable, and i felt very safe. As for the staff, they were not half as bad as what was mentioned below. The were very very professional and welcoming. The management ( I wont name any one specific because that in itself is childish and unprofessional) was very capable annd addressed any issues i had in a timley manner. I always felt that they upheld the highest of christian virtues and really cared about me. I would not hesitate to stay at the Y again if I ever needed to.
Hoping to BE A WORKER FOR THEIR BABYSITTINGROOM :-/ I KNOW THE YMCA IS SORTA PRICEY.... I KNOW... LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE.... NOTHING IS REASONABLE... :( BUT THE Y SURE HAS A VERY NICE STAFF :)~~MAY 27/2016/FRIDAY/11:45AM PHX, TIME
DONT LET SOME OF THE REVIEWS FOOL YOU!1. The rooftop pool is for ASU students ONLY. You need a special key card to get in.2. There isnt enough room to workout. Room to actually just stretch.3. YMCA pool is dangerous. Dont let your child run in because boom, they are already in 9ft of water. Their is no edge around the pool. Literally as soon as holly walk in, the water is right there and Ill be so scared to bring my child with me.4. This place is not clean. Nothing but outdated.5. I was reading some of the reviews and it sounds like they force people to say certain things, because trust me, it is nothing special here.6. Yes they have a sauna. But you cant even change the setting because the knob is broken. Everything is here is a freaking joke.Original review:The staff is friendly and I personally liked going to the YMCA side vs the Sun Devil fitness center. However, they have no digital scales available to the public. We have to use a manual balance that Im sure no one knows how to use.Their cardio equpiment is mostly new, but their weight equipment is not. Some of the machines have freaking duct tape on them. Some of their machines are outdated. The building is old and lowkey creepy. I went their basketball court and was scared. They need to remodel. People live upstairs and they have a little yard to hang out in. All they do is smoke and smoke. Walking to the gym and inhaling all that smoke is ridiculous. The staff are okay. Im a student, so I enter thru the Sun Devil Fitness side, therefore, I dont really interact with the staff there. But from what I can tell, they are nice. I like them better than the staff at the sun devil fitness center. I dont see myself getting a membership with them at all. I really miss my YMCA back in Chandler. I personally just wished it was more clean, and they werent so selfish with their digital scale. And I love how many Sun devil photos they have posted. They dont want to show outdated equpiment. Honestly, if you want to use duct taped equipment, have residents everywhere, no access to a freaking digital scale, this is the place for you. I only attend because its free, other than that, you will not catch me spending a dime here for this old, creepy, scary place called a gym. You are mostly spending your money to go to Sun devil side.
WOW.. lots of space to work out.. Mary its a great lady managing the YMCA/ASU...
Could use a lot of updating, but it shares with the SDFC which is very up to date, making the YMCA more of a supplement, but still serviceable
Awesome helpful staff. Not very many treadmills. Very outdated. Pool is horrible!
The ASU side which is what I mostly use has friendly people and good equipment.
Great group classes. Also since it is part of ASU recreation center twice the footage.
Youve got it all here! For one and for all. Next to ASU also!
After my initial incident I have had nothing but excellent service here. Just dont park in the lot without having the proper credential.
Happy to have my Ymembership back...Kids truly need things to do. This is the place for it....
I relocated from out of state to attend school and since they dont provide housing. I happened to stumble upon the ymca. At first I thought it was great, good central location, close to my school, and the facilities. Well the staff are rude, I addressed my issues with Joe Guiterrez one of the head staff, and it seemed to just make things worse. The staff became even more rude, I didnt want anything special I just wanted to be treated like all the other people who walk through the lobby to workout. They are rude and I have never felt so disrespected in my life. I see in his review that he tries to make the place sound like its your average place. Well the place is full of people with mental issues and come to find out some guy was high out of his mind and pointed a gun at Joe.google it, lets not forget about the guy who was living at the Y and was going out and doing home invasions, and killed a guy, and was arrested at the Y also I highly doubt that the pedophiles who live there are the ones who need to register, but the fact that the childrens play area is right next to the outdoor area for the hotel so all the freaks can oogle at the little children. These things didnt bother me. The thing that bothered me is the fact that I worked hard for my money and saved it, so I could put my complete focus on my schooling. And here I am giving these staff my hard earned and saved money, and they make you feel low. So low that I didt even feel comfortable going to the other side to work out, The one Anna just sits around when the big wigs are gone and texts. I dont care if even a penny goes to one of them and the rest other things. A penny is too much for me, and I will not perpetuate the perversity with my hard earned money. They should be trying keep the people who would help them clean up their image. not chase them off.
Excellent facility. Excellent staff and service.
Clean, good group classes, friendly staff, plenty equipment.
Employees are very friendly. Its never crowded.
Ive been working out here for years and they have everything you would need between the Y and ASU sides.
Knowledgable, understanding, practical, people Quality exercise machines, equipment and amenities.
Its family friendly and great lifeguards.
It sucks they are closed at 900am. We pay more for this membership than any other gym, not everyone can go early in the morning to work out or during the day and I think its ridiculous they close so early.
Awesome facility, real friendly staff..
Great gym with lots of equipment and events
