A major regret I have is not doing my research before selling 2 typewriters to this shop. In 2017 I brought 3 machines to their popup location on 4th. They suggested I keep my 1980 Smith Corona Classic 12 and sell them the 1967 Olivetti Lettera 32 and 1980 Olympia Socialite. They offered me $50 for the Olivetti and Socialite and would charge me $150 to clean up the Smith Corona. I agreed but when I got home I wasnt feeling right about the transaction so I did a bit of research and found that my typewriters were worth a lot more than $25 each. I wrote the shop, told them this, and that I would like to take all three back. They then offered me $50 each for the Olivetti and Socialite. I agreed but always regretted it. Ever since, I have always felt scammed. I will not be returning to this shop if my Smith Corona needs service again.

The people were very nice and very knowledgeable! I bought a machine from there, and it was damn near perfect! Orrin was very nice and also quite fun to talk to. Overall, a great place with even better typewriters.

Absolutely fantastic experienceVery friendly and helpful staff, they showed me around and told me about each typewriter I tried. Their selection of refurbished typewriters are among some of the best I have ever seen, their attention to detail is meticulous. This store is devoted to its customers and teaching people about typewriters, which is something rarely found today.

My wife has a Hermes 3000 that she received from her parents as a birthday gift when she was 12. Being about 40 years old now, the machine needed fixed. The tabulator lint was broken, the knobs were missing and the machine needed cleaned. As a birthday surprise, I took it to a local ( kind of) typewriter service place where they fixed it. It came back worse. I paid $75.00 for that serviceI searched online and found Philly Typewriter. After calling them I was comfortable enough to take my vintage machine to them for a complete restoration. I told them to take their time since it was not an easy job and I wanted it to be perfect. After a couple of months I received that phone call that it was ready for pick-up. When I saw the machine again, I was blown away. The new knobs, made by a 3d printer, were exactly like the original. The typewriter looked brand spanking new. They took out glue (!!!) from the previous service and cleaned it thoroughly. After a brief demonstration of all the functions that now work (!), I could only say that I was very happy with what they did.Bryan and Orrin are extremely dedicated to their work. I can highly recommend them if you ever need service done to your priceless typewriter. And my wife was almost in tears when she saw her (late) birthday gift.
