The worst experience I’ve ever had. My favorite shoes ruined. Anybody that gave this place a good review has to be friends and family. I came in excited to support a black business. I was told that the repairs to my shoes were easy and for me to leave a deposit and come back in a week. I did and my shoes looked horrible. I was told he wasn’t finished and to come back again. I came back a day later and the man that messed up my shoes wasn’t there and my shoes still look a mess with glue everywhere. I’m just heartbroken. In the before pics the heels are lighter. For whatever reason he painted them dark, which I didn’t ask for
I’ve been coming to this place with my father and brother since I was a child and now as I’m a duly I’m coming myself. Has that barbershop feel, except you’re caring for your Gucci’s and Ferragamos. I even learned they’re in the sneaker refreshing game now. Great pricing, great guys, masters at a rare staple of men’s haberdashery.
Nice guys, great service, and reasonable prices. And a bonus: its Black-owned!
I originally gave this place 5 stars. I went back and had an issue with young boy putting too much glue on my suede shoe. When I went to pick it up he tells me thats what I asked for. Now mind you he asked for a tip when I first took it. An apology is always better than an insult. Terrence you just lost a customer.
I brought my boots in they needed new rubber heels, and Terrance did a great job.You have a Customer for life!
The best shoe shine I have ever had
Very accommodating, practicing a lost art. PHILLY COBBLER
The Service I received was excellent & Tony is very professional! Highly recommended!
I really wanted to like this place - super friendly people and quaint family history. Although, Im a little disappointed that a month after I got my Chelsea boots resoled, its starting to fall apart. I paid roughly $70 for the sole to last a month, so not a great deal. The proof is in the pudding and the boots were not repaired well. Although, the shine job was pretty decent.
So far so good
ME AND MY FAMILY BEEN GOIN SINCE I WAS A KID... WONT STOP NOW...
Excellent work. Great customer service. This is a staple in the community.
Owner are very nice and they did a very good job definitely will go back
I recently got 2 pairs of shoes polished and conditioned. They look brand new!! This place is excellent. Great prices and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I definitely would recommend them for any type of shoes maintenance!
Cliff worked his way up from a shoe shine to own his own shoe repair company AND hes a great guy who supports his community.
Phenomenal, I mean phenomal congrats to the gentlemen. And they gave me a courtesy call. That is something you dont receive often.
They fixed my bag and it was so simple it took under 3min and he didnt even charge me
Great service and very reasonable price. Few places for shoe repair In University City
Great atmosphere, great job. They have professional machinery and good products. I have gotten my shoes repaired, new soles installed, stretched, taps removed the list goes on and on. They also do leather repair for bags and belts.
Super friendly, did a great job cleaning and shining a pair of shoes for me.
I support Black-owned businesses😃
Best shoe repair in Philly, reasonable prices, great work, with trip from S. Philly. Just picked up my Bass Weejuns that were badly in need of new half soles, what a wonderful job. Not only gave me new soles, but restored the whole shoe to look like new.
Very helpful and accommodated me as a walk-in to repair my stiletto Polished my patent leather Gucci shoes and I was on my way. Thank you Carl’s!!
I feel great about supporting this local, black-owned business! The staff are very friendly & helpful, and are fixing my shoes at an affordable price.
TLDR at bottom...I went in to get the zipper repaired on one of my favorite ankle boots. I figured it would need replacing, and was in no real rush. I asked if it could be done by Jan 3rd (i went in on the 22nd) and was assured by Terrence (I think that was his name, sorry if not!) that it would be more than sufficient time. When I returned on the 3rd, the boot wasnt ready. Pretty sure he forgot about it. I was like, ok, no worries, idk whats going on in his personal life and it was over the holidays, so its totally fine. I told him Id be back on the 14th (I was leaving town again), and he was like ok cool. When I came back on the 16th, I was told that it would be two more days. Clearly my poor boot had again been forgotten. Two days later, I returned to the shop. NOPE.Im sorry, come back tomorrow at 4pm.Today, I finally got my boot back. It has a new zipper, but the stitches were done in brown on a black shoe, which isnt too big a deal, but it had also been done shoddily enough that the zipper stuck halfway up the boot. I cut away some of the leftover zipper fabric with scissors, and immediately cleared up the catching problem (which demonstrates how little time was actually spent on the boot). While Terrence was pleasant at all times, and offered me a free shoe polish as an apology for the delay, Im still pretty annoyed that I had to pay $30 then wait a month for a badly fixed shoe. The false promises that it would be done soon were also infuriating.TLDR: paid $30 for my repair to neglected for ~a month despite multiple assurances that it would be finished soon, then badly repaired
They agreed to remove a crease from my leather boots so that the bend would stop pinching my foot in that spot, and they had me pay for something that they did not deliver on. After following a youtube video I was able to solve the issue for myself.
Excellent work nice people
Brought a pair of heels for a simple repair. They destroyed the leather. They made choppy stitches, left threads hanging off, put holes were there werent holes, ripped the leather and then crazy glued it together. I had to take my shoes to be repaired from the damage that was caused.
Great Service
Relaxed, professional, friendly. Great experience and a great shine. Thanks Cliff!
Ive taken several pairs of shoes there before giving up on this place. The first pair (a pair of tall black boots) I dropped off there to have the heels repaired and shined. They did a fine job on them, the curve of the heel was pretty scratched and it looked a lot better when I took it home, so this was a great first experience. The second pair (a pair of tall tan boots) was a disaster. I took the shoes there and they gave me a price and a date for pick-up for heel repair, button replacement and shining. I paid the deposit and left my shoes. I returned the date they said they would be ready, they were sitting in the window untouched and the manager was apologetic saying they would be ready in a week. I called a week later instead of coming down and they couldnt tell me over the phone if they were ready, someone gave me the managers cell phone number whom I called and was not pleased that Id called his personal cell. He started complaining about the company and I eventually had to end the converstation without any answer about my shoes.I went back six days later, and my shoes were repaired but not shined. I said I would come back the next day and pick them up. I came back the next day, and they still werent shined. I told him to just deduct the price of the shine and I could just take them home then--the manager started telling me how the shine was discounted and he didnt really want to take any money off, but since I already had my shoes I paid him the remainder for the repairs (heels and buttons) and deducted the $6 for the cost of the shine. And the buttons I had replaced were hanging on by a thread two weeks after they were repaired. The third time I took shoes there I asked for a stretching and fabric cleaning. When I got the shoes back (I waited a while before returning) they looked like theyd been wiped with oil (its a fabric shoe, ahhhh!) and they didnt feel the slightest bit larger. I needed just a little room to go from an 8 to 8.5. I had my boyfriend pick them up so he couldnt tell if they were any bigger.I decided to give up on this place, theyre not too expensive but they dont give a flying **** about the dates they write on the receipt for pick-up and their work is questionable
I loved how they fix my Granddaugter sandals less than 10 mins at affordable price
I had a pair of summer shoes that only needed a small strap to be glued and he charged me $30 for one shoe. Didnt cleaned to expecessive glue off the shoe. Too expensive.
Great work
I literally just picked up some boots from them that were separating from the sole. I wore them today and they were separating again, after I paid $30 to have them repaired. Save your money
GOOD PEOPLE......
Incompetent and rude! They ruined my new pair of expensive designer shoes. 😠
Excellent work! Professional. Everything was explained and work was completed on schedule.
