Tom was a delight to work with. He not only restored a beloved 50+ year old baby grand to a beautiful condition in sound and body but worked with my decorating schedule requiring that he care for the piano longer than needed. As I listened to him play her as he did the final tuning, I could see his love for his work and the music. Bravo!
Did a great job! Punctual and was able to fix everything I needed.
Tom Rudnitsky was nothing short of AMAZING. He took my completely screwed up piano and made it sound beautiful. I originally purchased my piano from someone who claimed to have completely restored and renovated it. When i received it, it was barely playable, the keys were so hard to play and it really had no soft action. It was missing the piano in piano forte (historical piano joke!) Anyway, Tom, who i hired originally just for a tuning, expertly navigated all the issues with the piano and basically rebuilt the pianos original construction. After tirelessly working a few times on the piano to really get it right, the piano was fixed up to probably better than it ever actually sounded, he not only restored the piano but actually pretty much reconstructed the building of it! Now it plays super smoothly, has great action, a great tone and makes my life genuinely happier. He is definitely the guy that you want to fix your piano up! Thanks again Tom!
What a great job Tom did, completely restoring and rehabilitating my childhood Yamaha spinet piano. My Dad purchased the piano at the factory in Japan in 1964, when he was stationed there in the military. The piano was played hard over many decades, moved many times and, other than occasional tunings, not maintained. Tom breathed new life into my piano! He made it as good as, or even better than new, doing meticulous work in his well-equipped shop in the Bok. I visited his shop several times, and was invited to play the restored piano before accepting it. Not only does it sound beautiful, the cabinet and wood details shine. Thank you, Tom!
Tom was super On Point, personable and punctual. Communicated clearly and quickly to setup a time, was clear and detailed regarding what our baby grand Baldwin piano needed. Gave us options at various price points based on how perfect we wanted it fixed. We had a major piece of wood framing inside cracked which he showed me that caused 6 keys not to work. He said he can try to fix it or replace, but due to the extensive damage couldnt guarantee it would be repairable. We didnt want to break the bank so we had him attempt a fix....He brought our baby back to life and tuned it Beautifully!!!!! All for a reasonable price. After he finished he sat and played for awhile which was an awesome bonus as hes a great player as well.Just a quality small business owner and great experience. Dont hesitate, give him a call. Thanks again Tom!Kev
Tom did a great job putting my spinet piano back into fine shape. It had been many years since my last tuning and some of the keys were sticking. He knew what to do to solve the sticking problem and skillfully brought the piano back into pitch. He seemed very knowledgeable and explained how he would address the issues. He enjoys what he is doing. I expect to use him again and strongly recommend him. Bruce, Fairmount, Philadelphia
This company is friendly, skilled, and efficient. I requested an appointment and was scheduled right away during a time that was most convenient for me. The process of tuning and additional services to improve the life of my piano were patiently explained to me so that I was comfortable choosing exactly what I felt was best! Im happy with the cost and most importantly the quality of the work performed! A follow up contact was made to confirm that I was satisfied. Thank you Tom!
After having to cancel my initial appointment with Tom because of crazy family health issues we finally got him in a couple weeks later to tune and assess our piano, which was a lovely gift from our next door neighbor. After the first tuning Tom offered to come back to do a deep cleaning which basically entails taking the whole piano apart and cleaning it. We also had a few keys that didn’t work. The piano was not in great shape but not the worst either. Upon getting the piano apart Tom found the piano not secured properly. It was work that he typically doesn’t get into but he stuck with it and got the job done. The piano sounds fantastic. Tom clearly explained the work being done and the work that needed to be done throughout the job, gave us costs before he did the work, was on time and great at communicating when he’d start and when he’d finish. His rates are beyond fair and his workmanship is second to none. Thank you PhilaTuner!!!!
Tom fixed up my old spinet piano which hadnt been tuned in over a decade in just 2 visits! His services are flexible to suit your needs and extremely convenient. Piano sounds great now!
Tom was excellent! He tuned our 60+ year old Steinway grand piano and gave us some suggestions for long term maintenance. His prices are very reasonable. The piano now sounds excellent, and it was a joy to hear him play the piano during the tuning process.
I have a pre-war Knabe baby grand that has been in my family since the 1920s. Tom recently refurbished it and is now tuning and helping me maintain it on a regular schedule. He’s great - knowledgeable and thorough. Communication is clear and pricing is excellent. I recommend him to anyone who needs a technician for everything from a complete restoration to a simple tuning. Roberta Snow
I was looking for someone to do something a bit more unusual than piano-tuning: replace a part on a digital piano. Once I got in touch with Tom, it was all easy. He ordered the part, arranged a time to come over, installed it, and tested it. He even checked back a couple weeks later (when Id had a chance to play it myself for a while) to make sure all was well. Ill definitely use him again for maintenance on this instrument and hopefully later, too, when I upgrade to an acoustic piano.
Our piano sounds rich, full and amazing! It suffered from our move from the southern humidity to a more northern climate; it’s now beautifully tuned and fantastic again. Couldn’t be more pleased with the service and experience!
Im a private piano teacher and am very happy to have Tom as one of my regular piano technicians!Tom is very knowledgeable and skilled at what he does. Besides a regular tuning, Ive also recently used Tom to file down the hammers on my piano which has given the piano a beautiful, warmer tone once again. After each service, Tom has taken the time to explain his process and keeps me in the loop on what my piano needs (as a piano teacher, I really appreciate this!).Ive recommended Tom to my piano students and would recommend anyone whos looking to have their piano serviced to use PhilaTuner!
I was gifted a piano from the 1960s from friends. It was in need of much care and hadn’t been tuned in years. After an assessment by PhilaTuner, I scheduled some visits for tuning and repairs. The difference was like night and day. The piano is now in tune (and staying there!), it functions far better, and it’s clean inside and out. Even the broken key and pedal are fixed. I would definitely recommend PhilaTuner - friendly, easy, thoughtful service!
Tom just completed a thorough reconditioning of our 110-year-old Steinway Vertegrand piano in his shop and at our house; its new and wonderful sound and exceptional action make it seem like it has just emerged from the Steinway factory in 1909! Tom is an exceptional piano technician and I would strongly recommend him to anyone whose piano needs attention. I purchased the piano in Boston in about 1979 after a partial reconditioning. Its been played quite a bit and it was moved 5 or 6 times during the last 40 years, with no additional significant work done on it, so a major reconditioning was long overdue. The job consisted of key restoration, complete interior and exterior cleaning, installation of new Steinway hammers, new action felts, complete regulation (including touchweight), installation of new damper felts, damper regulation, voicing and tuning. The price for all this work was very reasonable, especially considering the number of hours Tom ended up devoting to this piano. These older Model-K Steinways are notoriously challenging to work on because of their double-flange action. He worked very diligently and patiently on the piano until I was fully satisfied with its sound and action. This required several trips back to our house for final adjustments, voicing, and fine-tuning, even though a lot of the work had already been completed in his shop. I knew this because Tom had kindly invited us to visit the shop in the middle of the job so that we could see exactly what he was doing and better appreciate the full extent of the work. Now at the end of the process, I can honestly say that I am thrilled with the final results of Toms expertise and craftsmanship.
Time writes on pianos as surely as it does on the human face. Felts get compressed and moth-eaten, wood cracks or warps, and lacquer turns leathery in the sun. My 1927 Steinway “A” was rebuilt in the 1980s but had since taken a beating, having been moved from Northern to Southern California and then to the East Coast. It was banged up and out of regulation. Keys were sticking and squeaking and shedding ivories. I have to admit: as much as I love the instrument, it wasn’t much fun to play. But PhilaTuner’s Tom Rudnitsky took the piano to his shop in the Bok Building, voiced the hammers, regulated the action, and touched up the case. He replaced the keytops and chased down the squeaks. And he installed a system to keep the heat and humidity inside the instrument constant. Tom turned back the clock on my piano, and he did it with calm assurance, professionalism, and real care. You don’t have to look any further: Tom Rudnitsky’s the piano-whisperer you’ve been waiting for.
Tom is a great tuner, friendly, and very professional. I loved that he came in and out within the timeframe he gave and was willing to chat a bit about what he was doing and how to care for the piano while tuning.
Tom was on time, tuned the piano well, and taught me a little about my piano. Would recommend considering him as your piano tuner!
My piano tuning experience was excellent. My piano has been out of tune for years and many of the keys were so out of tune that no sound issued forth when played. My experience with PhilaTuner was great from the start. At first, my wait was going to be 3 weeks, but Tom had a cancellation and got to me faster. He then returned two weeks after the first visit and did a fine tuning. My piano sounds incredible! I didnt realize how bad it was until I heard it after the fine tuning. Thank you Tom! I will tell all my friends.
Tom was great! He was very friendly and comfortable to be around. He also took his time with my piano and did a really nice job. I was always noticing that the upper register my piano seemed out of tune, and my other tuner wasnt able to fix it. After Tom left it sounded more resonant and in tune than Ive ever heard it ! He was also able to tell me some history about my piano, how much its worth monetarily, pros and cons about the sound, and the science behind the string length and how to effects the tone!
Tom is a very thorough and talented piano technician. He is reliable and experienced, and I can tell he really enjoys the work. I appreciate that he takes my specific context (I run a small studio) into account when discussing what my piano needs.
Tom has come to tune our piano twice, and we will continue to use him in the future. Tom is very personable, professional, and knowledgeable, and has even told us when certain services werent worth the expense on our older piano. He couldve gone ahead and taken the money for performing these services, but he was honest as well. Were very pleased with his services.
Responsive, knowledgeable, and very professional. Will absolutely call again for repairs and tunings.I recently bought an old upright piano on Craigslist and over three appointments, Tom performed the necessary repairs and pitch corrections to make it playable again. Now it sounds positively dreamy--better than I ever thought possible!
Tom is skillful, respectful, professional and friendly. He fixed a few of my keys that were sticking, and within days Id forgotten they were ever sticking. He will go the extra mile to make sure things are done as best as they can possibly be.
Tom was great, very professional and courteous. I appreciated his text reminder and easy scheduling. He was especially understanding of my two rescue dogs, who can be a handful when people are over. Great tuner!
Tom has worked for my company as our tuner and I cannot be happier with to service he provides my customers. He is timely, thorough, and experienced. His care and gentleness with his work ensures your piano is in the best of hands. Tom has a kind manner and ability to explain any issues with a piano is amazing. His prices are very fair and honest. He is a huge asset to our company and I would recommend his services to anyone. No need to look farther for a tuner, you just found the best in the area. ;)
Tom is a first-rate piano tech and tuner. He completed a substantial pitch-raise and tuning for me on a recently-purchased second-hand upright piano. He was careful, courteous, quick and knowledgeable, and the tuning was right on the money. A couple of months later the piano has held the tuning perfectly and still plays great.Tom also carried out a couple of minor action repairs for which he only charged a small additional fee.Overall I felt that the price and level of service offered was exceptional, and I will be using Tom for any future tuning and servicing needs.Highly recommended.
Tom is great - very friendly and professional. Highly recommend!

A+++++ It was an absolute pleasure working w Tom (pitch correction/tuning over 2 visits.) Very professional, top-notch work. My piano sounds wonderful and I look forward to working w Tom again for my 6 month maintenance.
Tom was prompt and professional. He took the time to explain the best way to care for my piano, and gave me personalized tips on upkeep according to the make and model. I highly recommend Tom to anyone looking for a piano tuner in the area.
I got my old upright tuned by philatuner a few months back, and would highly recommend it! My once unbearably out of tune piano is now great to play, and Tom replaced some broken strings as well. Tom is friendly and obviously knowledgeable. He even stopped by a second time to make sure the piano settled well. Overall, great experience!
Tom could not have been more knowledgeable and professional. He patiently explained and addressed all of my concerns. I trusted his judgement and technical abilities almost immediately . My piano has never sounded better. Also, I feel that I can contact him anytime if I need to. The Gold standard of his craft. 👑 Thanks Again TOM!!!!
