I started learning piano as an adult, and decided to go with Zach. Two and a half years later, Im still with him! He is an effective, energetic, kind and committed piano and music teacher, with whom Ive quickly developed basic aptitudes for the piano and for music more generally, melodically, harmonically, and rhythmically. I would happily recommend him to friends and family, for child and adult learners alike.

Zach is a gifted teacher, not just of piano but of love of music. He teaches students to hear and feel music so they can create music on their own in addition to mastering keyboard techniques.

Zach is a wonderful piano teacher! He takes an expansive approach with children to help them develop an appreciation for music, express themselves via rhythms and style of play, as well as learn proper technique.

Ive decided to return to piano after an almost 20-year (!) break, and Im so glad I found Zachs studio. He is a great teacher - patient, persistent, focused, and encouraging. Throughout the lesson, Zach finds time for music theory, scale practice, rhythm sheets, and of course playing the piano. I would highly recommend his classes to working adults who are ready to begin or continue their music journey.

Zach is a wonderful teacher, he is always looking for something you can improve on even within simple beginner pieces. This critical nature has been crucial in supporting my growth on the piano. Being held to a high standard but not chastised when youre not all the way there in your practice is an incredibly important quality in a teacher in my mind, and Zach consistently brings these qualities to our lessons.

Both my son and I started taking piano lessons with Zach this year. I’m returning after a 30 year hiatus, and my 8-year-old son was just getting started. I explained our learning goals to Zach in the beginning, and he was amazing at accommodating what we wanted to achieve this year. I feel we have both made great progress. We enjoyed participating in two recitals and are looking forward to continuing next year.

Zach is a conscientious, patient, and dedicated Puano instructor. He has been working this year with my four year old twins who just turned five. I am continually in awe at his presence in managing their skills while keeping them interested and engaged. This appreciation comes from an Early Childhood Educator and evaluator of over forty years who appreciates good, consistent praise coupled with knowledgeable instruction.

Zach is a wonderful, inspiring and patient teacher. I am an adult returning to music (with a focus on composing) after a long absence. I have worked with Zach both in person and am now doing my lessons via Skype from Maine, which has worked out better than I ever could have expected. Zach continues to inspire and encourage me and he helps me to find my true voice as a composer. I highly recommend him!

I recommend Zach a lot. He is a very good teacher. I am from France and my English is not perfect but he took time to explain things in details so I can understand. I also love his way of teaching.

Im an adult returning to the piano after a long absence and Zach was exactly the piano teacher I needed- he kept me on target, taught me things I hadnt realized I needed to know, was extraordinarily patient and always pushed me to do my best. I got to see his work at a student recital and was impressed by the results he got with even the youngest of his students. I recommend him without hesitation (and wish he was still in the Portland ME area).

Zach makes the piano accessible and engaging. My daughter took lessons with him for about a year and it was a wonderful experience. The lessons set her up for success and the recitals were beautifully produced. It was a wonderful experience working with Zach and I highly recommend him to anyone looking for lessons for their child. My daughter was 7 when she started with Zach but I also saw him work well with younger and older individuals.

I progressed steadily under Zachs patient and knowledgeable care. For two seasons he moved me along with precision, and understanding. He was just right for my level and was encouraging without being demanding. Always ready to explain anything in greater detail, his thoroughness on any topic was much appreciated. I would strongly recommend Zach to anyone who wants careful, quality instruction.

Zach Zaitlin is an incredible piano instructor. Our son had never touched the piano before starting with Zach. They played together once a week and by the end of the first year they were playing side-by-side in a recital. Our son loved going each week and followed Zachs inter-session assignments, which were fun and challenging. We also enjoyed Zachs voice and went to hear him sing a few times in concerts. Our son chose to join the chorus and continue with piano this year in junior high, thanks in largest measure to Zachs excellent instruction, coaching, and encouragement.

Zach was exactly the teacher that I needed to motivate me to begin playing the piano at 76 years of age. He is patient, perceptive, and always tailors his teaching to my needs. I cannot reconmend him more highly.

Zach was my 8 year old daughters first piano teacher. He made lessons educational and fun, which made her happy to keep coming back and excited to learn piano. I was also grateful for his approach of creating a musical community with all of his students, by organizing piano play dates and recitals. Furthermore, Zach had a perfect balance of maintaining the culture and sophistication of the practice, while making it fun and interesting.

Zach is a very talented and accomplished pianist who has an incredible dedication and love for his craft. He has the rare ability to work with students from varying age groups with the majority of them at the grade school level, but some like myself who have found or returned to piano later in their adult years. Zach is very passionate about his musicianship and expects a strong commitment from his students with the focus being on learning, improvement and enjoyment. I would highly recommend Zach as a teacher to both new and experienced pianists.

I came to Zach on the strong recommendation of a family member who had studiied with him, and what a great recommendation it was! I’m an amateur cellist who has long wished that I knew some music theory to deepen my understanding of music and enhance my ability to play. I met with Zach once a week for an hour and learned so much. To actually understand the music in front of me has made all the difference in my playing, and I when I listen, it’s with new ears. Zach’s method of teaching theory is wonderful, because it’s 100% hands-on; everything I learned - key signatures, intervals, chords, chord inversions, etc., etc. - I learned not just in my head but practicing on the piano, so not just through the eyes and ears but through the body’s muscles. The interval of a fourth, say, becomes hard-wired via the fingers and hands, and you can literally feel it sinking in. There’s nothing like it for really learning something. Zach’s explanations are intelligent, clear, patient and good-humored. I’m so grateful to have been able to benefit from his instruction.
