Our favorite local animal shelter. The employees have a passion for the animals collected or relinquished to their care. We enjoy volunteering often to take care of the dogs and cats housed as well as assist the staff. A worthwhile organization to donate pet food, towels, cleaning supplies, treats and toys to. Adopt dont shop.Looking forward to see the new city shelter being built adjacent to the police station.

I want to start by saying that I appreciate this facility for the job they do and that’s helping the animals off the street. When I initially called and spoke to a woman on the phone she was very sweet and informative. However when arriving I somehow found myself feeling like I was being interrogated. MmThe lady asked me why I didn’t go to a closer store to my house in Houston and why I went to Pearland location even though it’s closest to me. The dog I brought in I found in the HEB parking lot. I understand there are certain things people need to be aware of but it’s ridiculous how I went from feeling great about what I was doing to feeling like I was in trouble for doing it or feeling that I didn’t do the right thing or come to the right place. Right before leaving she tells me that I could be fined if they find out she was owned by me, which is fine, but it was almost as if she thought I was lying, but this is the same woman that questioned why I went the grocery store that I chose to go to. It just wasn’t a pleasant experience. All aside though I’m glad they helped me get that sweet girl off the streets! She didn’t deserve to be left the way she was found. Wishing her and all the fur children at the shelter a furever home.

Very nice staff, they absolutely have each animals best interest at heart. For this reason you may have to jump through more hoops to adopt from them, but I firmly believe we should support the local animal shelter and their more protective adoption policies. My pupper went missing the other day. Unfortunately before he disappeared, he did bite one of my friends. Due to the minor bite, the hospital did have to report the incident to the local animal control. I received a call early the next day, pup still missing. The lady on the phone, Regina, was super helpful and calm. She wanted to confirm the incident and get some information on my missing pup. During the whole conversation, she was very sweet and reassuring that they will do their best to find my pup. On top of that they were very professional about the quarantine rules and offered all forms of contact in case I had any questions or concern. Thankfully in less than 24 hours, we received a lead on where the pup was hiding. Animal Control and I picked up the lost pup and now he is resting back at home. I’ve always assume that lost pets get ignored, but to see Regina driving around looking for my pup proved me wrong. Thanks for everything.

Adopted my beautiful dog Fenrir (Pluto at the shelter) about 9 months ago from here. There were something like 5 applications ahead of us, but I showed up every single day I could to spend time with him. He almost got adopted out multiple times by applicants ahead of myself, but against all odds I was the one lucky enough to take him home. The volunteers adore the animals, and the staff do the best they can. The applications are lengthy because they are trying to avoid adopting animals out that might return or end up in bad situations. Its their job to be picky about who takes animals home.Overall, if you have the means to adopt, please do so. I met my best friend at pearland animal shelter.

I adopted a cat here years ago. Had no issues. I also adopted a mini dachshund here some years ago. First let me start by saying that the shelter is pretty clean and I had no customer service issues. However, the health check on my dog that the shelter did, said she didnt have heart worms. She DID in fact have them. We had them treated, and she is now a happy 14 year old senior dog.... The thing that always has bothered me about her adoption.... What if she had been adopted by someone that didnt have the financial means to treat heart worms? What if she had been adopted by someone who hadnt taken her in immediately for a check up? Her life could have been very different.

I’m in Highschool and I found 3 kittens at my local barn. They were very young and I was only 15 at the time. I wanted them to not die out here. I called in pearland animal shelter to have them come get them and help them back to Health so they could be adopted. As I would have taken them home myself but my sisters deathly allergic. Anyways, they were all nice and people would let them and give them food. You could pick some up and play with them. When I called in the lady on the phone only told me “ we don’t pick up stray cat” I said well they’re kittens and she asked for my location. I gave her it and she told me it wasn’t in pearland. The barn is right next to turner Highschool so I said ur kidding me right? Yes it is. She got a very sassy tone with me and said If I wanted them to come in I’d have to capture them myself and find the mom and bring them in with a fee. So they now stay at that barn and we feed them. She also gave me other places to go but since I was in PEARLAND. They wouldn’t come out.

My husband and I visited this place last weekend and found it to be very organized, clean and with friendly staff. Lisa was the officer who helped us and she was more than willing to answer any and all questions I had. She was very knowledgeable and seemed happy to be there. The kennels were mostly clean, the place had a normal smell and all the dogs appeared to be cared for. There were buckets of play toys for the dogs and bins of extra blankets. When adopting, the process to get to know the animal was easy and not overwhelming with rules which can be stressful when trying to make such a big decision. We decided to adopt a dog and would recommend anyone else to adopt at this facility as well.

The animal shelter only euthanizes animals who are sick or hurt and cant be healed. If a very young animal, that has not been weaned, is unable to eat regular food it will be humanely euthanized to keep it from starving to death. They do not have the staff or the means to hand feed these animals. Dogs are kept in chain link dog runs, and cats are kept in small metal wall kennels. I wish they had more room to walk around. The city of Pearland needs to provide more funding. The city is growing, but the shelter is not.

I called Pearland Animal Control (PAC) to report that a feral cat had 4 kittens on our patio. Only 3 of the kittens survived. The lady (I wont name her) at PAC said that it was my responsibility to retrieve a cage from PAC and trap the mother cat. She said that PAC would not pick up the kittens until we secured the mother, because it was unfair to the kittens. She said that the kittens would die without their mother. I explained that we could not pick up the trap during the PAC operating hours, and asked if it could be delivered and/or set out by PAC. She said that PAC would not do that either. I explained that I was concerned about caring for the kittens in the interim, because the dead kitten and/or the 3 surviving kittens may have rabies or some other infectious disease that could be transmitted to our child or other children in the neighborhood as well as our pet. She had no response to my concern but continued to express her concern about the fairness to the kittens. I then demanded that PAC pick up the kittens, or that I would take it up with the Texas Infectious Disease Unit at the state level which oversees PAC. She relented saying, I will tell the animal control officer that you want the kittens dead, and that you want them picked up! I was appalled that this lady had used such demeaning language in an effort to guilt me into doing her job. Concern for the welfare of animals is expected of everyone. However, it is deplorable, when PAC places the welfare of animals above our own children. I hope that the supervisory personnel at PAC will examine their policies (or at least this ladys behavior) with consideration to the threat these policies pose to the residents of Pearland.

3 pleasant calls to the shelter; each time the employees asked me to call back in a few days to see if a kennel space had opened up for a kitten I need to surrender. 4th call was answered by ‘Officer Weller’. She was extremely condescending, and stated that there was no need to call on any future date, because they don’t kill their own animals to make room for owner surrendered pets. It caught me totally off guard; I honestly had no clue what she was talking about, as my 3 previously taken calls each requested a callback. She should take her personal views, biases, and baggage to another place of employment. Preferably one where she doesn’t have to deal with the public.

I am not sure if the organization really wants to help animals as much as as they try to reflect on their Facebook page. This was my first time to the pet adoption experience and it will probably be my last. I first found the puppy I wanted online. I contacted Pearland Animal Control and inquired about the animal. I went to the event where they said it would be attending to attract potential adopters.I completed the application and indicated that it had been over year since I had a dog and did not have much vet information. The next day, I went to visit the puppy and noticed so much tension between those needing help at the shelter and those working behind the counter. I blamed it on anxious customers and poor customer service. I even actually witnessed people leaving with dogs they found and wanting to turn in, saying it was easier just to let the dog loose than deal with what they were going through just to turn in a found animal. Nevertheless, I spent time with the puppy that day and left with a small thought in my head that this was not going to work out based on this experience. The next day, the animal control officer called me needing vet information for verification. I explained that my information was incomplete because it had been a while but I would see what I could locate I found where my vet had retired, but I still kept in contact with the vet assistant so I called and left a message saying this. Hours later, I received a phone call from someone in the Pearland Animal Control office saying my application was declined. I asked why, she said we couldnt verify the vet information, we dont play those games here. I did not expect neither the comment nor the accusatory tone. I said Excuse me?, she said Yeah, we called and your sister answered or whoever you got to answer, we dont play those games here and immediately hung up. I then call the assistant and inquired as to what happened when they called for verification? She said that the animal control asked her who she was and then hung up. They asked no other questions nor did they state who they were or why they were calling. They just rudely hung up. How can an organization that first of all, does not have a no kill policy, expect to help their animals find homes if this how they treat their potential adopters? If this organization treats its customers it wouldnt surprise me if they kill more than they adopt. I witnessed the mistreatment and then experienced it.
