Beautiful trail! The horses were all well behaved. Me and my family went out last weekend and hand a blast. My grandma even road along on there horse Hop along. I rode Tiny the Irish Draft horse and just had so much fun! Definitely worth the price and the drive. The Guide Marco was very informative along the way as well.
We had a good time with my kids there however a few things.Horses were nice and easy to control. Havent done it for 20+ years and still was able to work it out.We had 2 guides and they were very nice and talkative. They provide helmets if you like however its required for 12 and under, you can bring your own.Bring something to cover your mouth, the trails are really dusty and rocky. If you have allergies its a must.We arrived at 10:45am for our ride but the previous ride was late and didnt saddle until 11:45 and finished our ride at 1:30pm so be patient if you go there. If you pay with credit card, youll have to put all your information on a piece of paper...not really safe if the paper gets lost somehow. Best would be paying cash tmo. Tips are on top. We payed $65 x3 + tip.All in all a good time but I would like to do it again when cooler weather permits.YMMV
Seemed great at first only to find out that it wasn’t 30 an hour like the site said, it’s actually 75 AND your guide works off of tips and not the 150 that I already dished out. The lady claims that those prices on the site are from 20 -30 years ago which I find hard to believe since they have commented on their own site last year so overall I think it’s a shady scheme to get you there rather than being straight up on the site. It shouldn’t cost the customer more because an owner can’t update their website and be honest. Not coming back or recommending.
Absolutely beautiful riding the switchbacks with head wrangler George. If youre looking for real I recommend Kohls Ranch Stables wholeheartedly. Trust your guide George is an ole Ranch hand and bronc rider from Texas. Knows his trade knows his horses.
We went on 6/12/21 with guide Holly. Holly was great. She immediately gave a warm welcome and was a delight the entire time. She helped us pick the right horses and knew the trails well. The horses are easy going so any experience level would enjoy this unique experience. They collect credit card information for billing upon arrival and the guides accept tips. Beautiful experience so we recommend it for you.
My wife, 2 daughters age 7 and 11, and myself rode yesterday. This was our first time but we will definitely be back again soon. Jo made the sign up, set up, and instructions simple and quick so we could get off and riding. Our guide was very funny and very informational all at the same time. It was nice hearing about his history with horses and riding as well as his insight into the surrounding area. It was a fun class as much as a fun ride. Our 7 year old was able to ride her own horse but the guide kept her close to him. She had an absolute blast and never felt unsafe at all. Our 4 of us had amazing horses who were well trained and well mannered while still maintaining their own personality and flair. All of the horses looked to be well taking care of. We rode for a tad over 1.5 hours and went up the hill above the lodge and looped back down. We saw a few small critters but just missed seeing some elk.
We had a great time, we rode in the forest, just what my daughter wanted. The horses were really nice and calm, our guides kennan and stinger were very enjoyable. They had a mini horse and a baby donkey, super cute. Dont park at Kohls Ranch, because it will be a long walk to the stables. We had great weather. Thank you for a great experience!
We had a blast, the ride was challenging through some rough areas but beautiful sites. Guide was knowledgeable, funny and experienced. We felt safe, comfortable, the horses were great. They were well behaved and taken care of. We had a great ride and we would not only go back but recommend there services to others.
All I can say is that I absolutely loved it and enjoyed it so much.. thank you
Me and my bf went out Saturday! We had a great time. The guides were great, and made you feel very safe and the horses were very well behaved . I will say it was quite a workout for me riding up hill into the mountains and I suggest you stretch before going I am pretty sore today but that’s to be expected and I’m outta shape haha.. I would defiantly go again but would prefer a flat scenic trail, regardless this is a must do!!
The prices on the website are misleading. They claim to have 1/2/3 hr rides available to purchase for $30 an hour per person but when I got there and asked about paying I was completely ignored. This was for my gf so I just like whatever. We went on a one hour long ride and at the end the total was $65 per person per hour. I wish I would have known prior to going just so I can be aware. No one likes paying more money than they expected. So it was $130 for 2 people for a one hour ride. Overall the guide was nice and cracked jokes along trail and he doesnt own the stable or horses, so it was hard to be upset with him.ALSO BRING CASH!- They have a horrible card system. It is literally a piece a paper you fill entire card info on and wait for the guide to transport that info to the owner. I was extremely uncomfortable with this but there was no atm for miles and I had no cash. Now Im carefully watching my bank.Overall OK experience, just wish the pricing was updated and would have known to bring cash.
Amazing ride. This is our 2nd time going. The guides are funny and make the ride enjoyable.
My grandkids did the horseback Trail ride and had a great experience! Highly recommend for any level of riding experience!
Had a great ride with my wife for her birthday here today! Truly amazing staff. Could not have had a better experience!
We had an amazing pony ride for our 4 year old. $30 for a 1/2 hr trail ride over a creek. The price might seem high but this isn’t your typical pony ride. It’s beautiful scenery and excellent customer service. I highly recommend coming here!
Love it.My family and I have been going there for ten years when we are visiting our cabin.I love the stable so much that I feel like I live there. On the trail rides you get to explore the forest and sometimes you can see elk.The horses are all very well behaved and are super gentle. The guides are really funny and have so much information about the forest.I really recommend this place.
Joe, the Wrangler was very knowledgeable and fun. Werent so strict with the rules. It was very relaxed, and the views were magnificent.
Great place for riding
This trip was fantastic! The guides were knowledgeable and entertaining. they offered great stories about the area, plant life, animals, and much more. It was very apparent their fist concern was safetly. We had a 7 year old with CP us so that was very important. On that note, both guides were great with our kiddo and he is a handful. Additionally, the cost was very reasonable to the amount of time we were given for our ride. The location was perfect. Far enough away to be in nature but close enough that it was an easy drive. I look forward to Payson season. We plan on being their first customers.
At $60 per person for a 2 hour ride, I had pretty high expectations. They did not disappoint! We all had a wonderful time! My son was pretty nervous at first but the guide, Mark, talked with him & made him feel really comfortable!
This ride was my first and it was a blast! (We all had a blast.) The staff was great. And they put me on the perfect horse. Gotta do this again!
Loved it. The cabins are so nice ans right on the river. Great place to vacation
Amazing experience!!! If you are heading up to Payson you must make a reservation. My 7 year old and 12 year old went on the one hour which was perfect for them! It was such a great experience and we recommend it to everyone!
Had a wonderful ride to celebrating our 20th anniversary. Kind, safety conscious, and knowledgeable guide. I highly recommend them.
Had an awesome 2 hour trail ride with our trail boss Judy. She was very knowledgeable about the area, and funny. We saw a lot of animals, squirrels, ravens, and deer. Great family friendly destination.
Couldnt ask for a better excursion outside of Payson.
Loved it
Had a great time and the staff was really fun!! A special thanks to JoAnn she was AWESOME!!
Great place to spend time in a weekend. we really loved the 2 hours ride and walking to the waterfall where you actually can swimm so dont forget to take your swimming pool. The horses are very well trained and very good behaved. The staff is friendly and positive. The price is afordable. I would recommend it to friends! I loved it and will come back soon.
The only reason I gave one star is because I didnt get to ride. My family and I got there and they asked me if I wanted to get on the stand to get on the horse and I said yes because I had foot surgery back in Septmeber and felt it would be eaiser to get on the horse. Mind you I have been cleared by a medical doctor that my foot is good and there are no issues accept residual weakness. I explained this to the man there, who by the way, did not introduce himself so I dont know his name. He asked if I couldnt go if the rest of my family could and I said I guess so. Then they got me off the horse and got my husband on his horse and the next thing I know they are heading down the trail and Im just standing there. No one told me I wasnt going on the ride. I asked if they could stop so I could get our room key so I didnt have to stand in the hot sun for an hour waiting. Again no one said I wasnt going they just left me standing there. I got back to our room and called and spoke to the guy who apparantley decided I couldnt ride and asked him why not and he just said that he felt I wasnt a good fit for any of the horses. I asked why and he just kept saying he didnt have a good feeling that I was a match for any of the horses. I asked several times why - was it because the stirriups didnt fit right or was I to fat or to ugly for the horses and he just kept saying there just wasnt a good fit for you with any of the horses. So if it was because of my surgery that I mentioned, that was wrong because I have been cleared by a medical professional. And they had my husband get on the horse using the stand so why would it matter about my foot? If there was some other reason so bit it but he could have at least said to my face you cant ride. He was just going to leave me standing there in the hot sun without a word of what was going on. I wish now that I would have had my family turn back and go home but why rob them of a ride because someone treated me poorly. Some simple respect would have been nice. And I have been on horses my entire life so this wasnt my first ride. Good way to ruin the day of my FAMILY vacation. Thanks
So much to do and I had such a great time
