I have a mental disorder that is very well treated through the relationships formed with Dr.Howard Askins and Associates.. ALL of Dr. Askins associates and office staff are top notch. As a MH patient, I must, over time form a relationship with my Mental health provider and be truthful & accepting myself. My opinion only, judging from most reviews it seems the book was read by cover only. Patience is difficult for any patient. Basically, I have been making the commitment to my MH and put stock only in the best! Truly

Hey Howard. Dont classify people as depressed when they arent. You arent allowed to reduce peoples credibility. I will always be happy. You nor anyone can ever classify me. Dont force your reality onto others.

I have been with Dr. H. Askins for many years. He has been great to me as well as Dr. Schneider. Kelly and Donna in the office are some of the hardest working women I know. !!!!

Terrible doctor. Reasons are that he doesn’t care about or listen to you. He only hears. Dr. Askins knows his terminology and is merely book smart. I would not recommend him to anyone point blank period!

Normal state approved drug dealers, may or may not take an interest in you. Very unorganized during covid which is not contributing to every patients life falling apart right now especially. But alas that is not in any way a thing their business model is concerned with.

The hours at this place are beyond unreliable. They are open about half the time they say they are, and if you make an appointment for say, 2:00, dont expect to be seen until around 3:00. Askins himself will be unexpectedly absent without warning for weeks at a time, and when you do finally meet with him, he wont have much useful to say, at least in my experience. Dont waste your time and money.

Dr. Askins was the Psychiatrist assigned to me during my three day hospital stay. He did not bother to show up for our meeting on the first day. The second day we spoke for about 30 seconds and he promised to help me find a therapist who is a woman, but he has yet to provide that assistance. The third day was the worst encounter by far, wherein he asked me how I was feeling and then checked his phone while I was in the middle of answering him. I called him out and he became very defensive and told me that he was NOT looking at sports (I didn’t mention sports) and that as a physician, he had to check his phone in case there is an emergency. I think his schedule has him spread too thin so he can’t focus on any individual patient. He also gave me the wrong dose of my regular medication that I have been taking for years. Sloppy and rude.

Super cool experience! Didnt make eye contact with me a single time, just kept penning away at his paperwork talking to me from the side of his mouth. Was stuck in a rehab center incapable of sleeping and just needed Melatonin, a perfectly safe non-addictive sleep-aid, but he REFUSED to give it to me, instead prescribing me Trazodone and doubling the dose every time I asked for Melatonin, like a psychopath! Trazodone caused literal TREMORS in my legs, and HE KNEW THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING TO ME WHILE HE WAS DOUBLING THE DOSAGE! I know you can buy Melatonin at a store, but I was in a rehab center, anything in the shape of a pill is heavily monitored, I could only swallow pill-shaped chemicals that a psychiatrist prescribes, and my psychiatrist was this absolute stain of a human being. I had to demand a meeting with the head of the psychiatric department of the hospital and tell him what was happening, and beg HIM for Melatonin, although what I should have done was go after Askins and his license, class-action style, for practically taunting me with his prescription power, but in that phase of my life I just needed to get the hell out of there, so heres my warning to you all, this Draconian sack of trash is the last person to go to for medical anything, ESPECIALLY DRUGS!!!

I’ve never encountered a medical practice that cares nothing about a patient’s well being!Warning:: I’m verbose, so my explanation is detailed but hopefully helpful in that you will see multiple aspects of this office beyond how “nice” Dr Askins is in that I didn’t see him in my one visit but I saw the dark underbelly of a practice no one should ever experience.I also feel that without background, you can’t understand why I’m overwhelmed at the lack of empathy and willingness of a medical worker to do harm to a patientI moved from Texas with enough medicine for a diagnosed issue I’ve lived with for 9 years, medications I’ve taken at the same dosage for 8 of those years. My assumption that the time to find a new psychiatrist in California, even in a smaller town, would be well within my refill period. My lesser medicine ran out as I discovered the many psychiatrist offices I called do not return calls or their profiles claim to take new patients but don’t.Finally, 72 miles away, I was “lucky” enough to find a doctor who, first, when I called, a human actually answered and, secondly, finally to see hope as I was put on a waiting list for an appointment at the end of March and told I’d get a call back.By Mid-April, now panicky that my main medicine was running out, I called back and was informed that there wasn’t any waiting list, didn’t know why I was told that as they had a PA and was set up with an appointment two days later. Whew!! Only, no, that was the biggest disaster to come. The PA, though with a detached demeanor, did take his time. However, multiple times questioned my claim of dosage of medication, my explanation that my psychiatrist had prescribed a second one as my main one was at the highest, at one point he said that no, the dosage could be much higher but then multiple times, questioning me at least four times whether I had violent mood swings even when I told him that I wasn’t nor had ever been diagnosed with bipolar disease, etc.I must preface this next issue with the unfortuate timing that my husband’s company changed the insurance company, which had many years of our medical history, in 2018. Thus, I procured medicine wherever was cheapest and where I found my last refill of my prime medicine eluded me. My extra medicine, however, happened to be at Walmart and easy to find.Given the PA’s apparent reluctance to believe me, he allowed the second medicine to be filled as proof of it being filled in the last three months was found. The completely unethical part is that the second medicine is a bandaid for an aortic bleedout. This “caregiver”, because I could prove a refill but not the one within the accepted time frame, he refused to fill the prescription.Effect? I’m currently on zero of my needed medication as I was when my disease was discovered in the first place 9 years ago. I am currently going through withdrawal. I then start the battle all over again and that battle involved everyone around me except that battle is now only my husband and me until I can find a real doctor. I almost lost the first battle.I called the office four times, the last two pleading for them to call back. They never did! If I loose this battle, they are, in part to blame. My path, at this point, is to fly back to Texas to go to an appt I made with my doctor and to continue my search for psychiatrists here tho my faith in the profession has plummeted.I do hope that those who read this will reconsider ever, ever chancing this experience.

This Doctors office is very unproffessional. The secratary Kelly is a liar. They said they were going to email me an important document for four days and still no email. This office overbooks its patients. They make you wait a long time to see Dr. Askins. The wait is almost an hour at times with an appointment. Very small office. The secratary is very rude and im going to find another doctor. Its better to go somewhere proffesssional. Its too disorganized, overcrowded, and not worth my time.
