Trained here while traveling through California. I would highly recommend the competition class, even one guy threw up during it! Armando and Orlando are great teachers. This school has a very high level of technique and I also liked it how they play music during some of the classes.

Started training here over 3 years ago and would say it has been one of the most positive life choices I have made. The Sanchez brothers and the rest of the team create an awesome experience anyone can enjoy. If you are looking for a BJJ gym that will challenge you to grow both mentally and physically then this is the right place for you.

I have been taking my 5 year old son here for over a year and got my daughter started a few months ago. The kids program is fantastic, the best you will find. The adult classes are also great, with fantastic instruction from a highly skilled and respected black belt instructor. Really, if you live in the Pasadena area you are not going to find a better jiu-jitsu school.

Update:Our girls have been training with Professors Armando & Orlando for the past 6 years. This studio has been such an amazing, supportive place with instructors that truly do care & are passionate about what they do.My daughter competed at the Gracie Regionals today & was supported by Arnando & his coaches Jason & Kaori. Her nervousness about competing was allayed by their presence, encouragement, & coaching. My family & I are grateful for Gracie Pasadena!Cheers!DocMikeChiro6 years ago:These guys are the real deal. EXCELLENT instruction. My 5 & 7 yr old girls were intimidated at first but the instructors and other students were warm and genuinely nice. My girls LOVE their classes and in just a short amount of time their self-confidence has already grown. They really do become like a family at Gracie Barra Pasadena and we are happy to drive here from South Pasadena. I cant more highly recommend a school to learn such an amazing martial art.Thank you Coach Armando and Professor Orlando for putting together a wonderful school.Cheers! :)

Gracie Barra Pasadena has been a huge part of my life for two and a half years now. When I had first came to Gracie Barra Pasadena I already had experience of four years in Brazilian Jujitsu. I have learned more from this school in these two and a half years, then I had in those previous four years of Jujitsu. Everyone there is so positive and so willing to make you the best that you can possibly be. Everyone always wants to make you better whether it is the owner and professor, Orlando Sanchez or just one of the coaches, they are going to push you and make you better. Another thing besides Jujitsu that Gracie Barra Pasadena teaches is respect. Respect is something that is becoming lost in todays world, and GBP really gives you a true meaning of what respect means. It can be as simple as showing respect to your training area by bowing before you enter on the mat. GBP has quickly become my second family and I will always remember that. I will not only take away self defense lessons away from this, but valuable life lessons as well. Organized like a team, Fighting like a family!!!!

You can tell a lot about a dojo by how they welcome newcomers. I train in a more traditional style of jiu jitsu and was in town for a couple of days. I had been wanting to check out BJJ but just never got the chance. We do quite a bit of grappling so I figured Id see what this Gracie thing was all about. I walked into the gym and was greeted by Armando. I asked if I might sit and watch a class and he asked if I had a gi. When I said yes, he immediately invited me to train with the class. I let him know that I was from out of town and offered to pay a drop in fee several times, but he graciously refused. Not in it for the money, check. You can also tell a lot by the attitude of the students. I rolled with several different people and never felt like anybody brought a big ego to the mat. They were all happy to roll with someone new and to share their love and knowledge of the art. Its a delicate balance training with new people and keeping everything safe and upbeat. These guys were great training partners. Friendly and humble students, check.Lastly, I got tapped out by everybody I rolled with and went home smiling and totally spent. These guys know their stuff. Based solely on my one-day experience, Id say you could do a lot worse than to train with these folks. They have a great space, knowledgeable instructors and an open and friendly atmosphere, what more could you ask for?

This gym is by far the best in my opinion. First of all 2 years ago I was looking for a new gym for my son from parting ways from XTC gym in eagle rock. So I got recommended to this gym from a family friend to check out this place. So I brought my son in and met with Professor Orlando Sanchez who was a coach back then, which I felt a good vibe with his and staff teaching skills towards the kids program. During the 2 years my son won a few tournaments and obtaining gold and silver medals, so I say this place is legit on building champions. Now my daughter and I are also training are under professor Sanchez, which made my family even closer. So this place is not only for training brazilian jiu jitsu, you learn everything to deal with life struggles and it makes you be better on your everyday lifestyle. Im proud to be part of the GB Pasadena family which I gained a lot of great GB brothers and sisters. So come down and check this place out for yourself and you wont be disappointed... I GUARANTEE IT!!! As Professor Orlando Sanchez says Champions in Life, its so true!!!

Orlando Sanchez has helped my son become a much more confident and focused kid. This place is no joke, the kids and adults spar at full speed every session. After just a few months my son went from crying at every minor bump or bruise to a sturdy, fit and tough young man. Thankfully they teach when its ok and not ok to use jiu-jitsu. So far my son has mixed it up with a couple of kids at school and just held onto to them until they stopped fightig, no chokes or joint locks required to end the situation.

There truly are not enough great words to describe this school. The words that come to mind are: Family, Friendship, Loyalty, and Quality.Family. Once you step through the door, you are part of the Gracie Barra Pasadena family. It’s not fake or feigned, it’s real. From top to bottom every person is happy to have you there and treat you as such.Friendship. Some of my best friendships have been forged on the mat. The training is appropriately tough, the environment is positive, and going through it together produces great bonds.Loyalty. You are treated as a person, not a number. All of the coaches are truly invested in your improvement and will go out of their way to make sure your experience is the best possible.Quality. The facility is top notch and always kept in very clean condition. Of course, if you are looking at a jiu jitsu school you want to know “how good are they?” Look no further. This is not a McDojo. Coach (soon to be professor) Orlando is the real deal. He won double gold at the Brazilian Nationals as a brown belt. He is constantly training with, and learning from the best MMA and jiu jitsu fighters in the world and he passes that knowledge on to us as only he can. He is always positive and energetic and makes everyone around him better.Do yourself a favor and go check out a free class. You won’t regret it.
