It has been years since my husband and I each received our graduate degree. When our daughter decided to pursue a Doctorate degree in English, we felt sure she could apply by herself. She was carrying more than a full load of courses during her final year of a double major bachelor degree. Four months later when each of the universities she applied denied admission, it came as a surprise to both her and us. We did not realize that entering Graduate School has become very competitive.
