I Loved my experience and time here. I live in Beaumont and made the 1.5 hour drive to every appointment and while in labor because I knew I would be well taken care of. Everyone at Bay Area was so welcoming and treated my husband and I like family. Stephanie and Frances were so patient and knowledgeable. If I wouldve known about them sooner I definitely wouldve delivered my other children with them! I brag about my midwives and highly recommend Bay Area. I am thankful for their services.
Just had my baby & due to how quickly he came I was not able to get to the birth center.. so they came to me!! To say I am thankful for Stephanie, Frances & Devonna (& Tanelle) is an understatement! I became a client of theirs late in the game at 30 weeks & am SO glad to have done so. I wish I had 100 stars to give. Thank you ladies 💜💜💜 you are all so special.
Ive given birth to three of my four children here and every experience has been amazing. Ive never felt rushed or unimportant, but always valued and deeply cared for. My first child was born in a hospital, and while that experience was good, it was never personal. My husband and I are so grateful we found the birth center and if we have more children this is the only place we want to go to!
This is a much overdue review, as I delivered my baby with Bay Area Community Birth Center in July 2020. With that having been said, I still think about Stephanie, Frances, Tanelle, Devona, Aisha, and Kate often. They are doing amazing work in the community and Harris County is so fortunate to have their skills and warmth. They have my full trust and I would not hesitate to go to them for my next pregnancy or recommend them to others. All in all, I feel so grateful and honored that these wonderful women are forever part of mine and my babys story. (As for Devona and Aisha, the student midwives, I know they will go on to do equally great things in the future!)
Everybody on this team has a calling of love and care. 💜Stephanie and Frances are an amazing partnership of kind, knowledgeable, skilled and dedicated midwives. They had my back, and I felt it 100%! Even when I didn’t love it that I got told to stop eating Nutella straight out the 900g tub I carried in my purse. 😂 Devona was on me for this, and Tanelle was trying to cushion and pad the blow to my very intense end of second tri feelings lolI swear, going to prenatal visits felt like walking into a wholesome family gathering where care was weaved into it all: serious talks about serious things and silly talks about silly, and sometimes serious things too! I laughed, cried and poured myself out and they all held me with care EVERY TIME. I am forever grateful for the love I received, and my whole family, every time we came through. Then came birth. Beloved Stephanie was by my side being so steady and encouraging yet also just observing my process unfold - it felt like she was a guardian of it: labor, me + baby, our whole family. I have no words to express how important her presence was and how it was such a critical piece of the process for us.I know I’m talking so much about my feelings but it’s cause it really matters. How ppl feel when they are being cared for during this important event of pregnancy-labor+birth-postpartum matters and is often aligned with outcomes, even if/when there are bumps, issues or complications. Which there were: after a beautiful homebirth of our sweet bebe, and, eventually, my placenta, it became evident that I was bleeding too much. I hemorrhaged significantly. Stephanie acted quickly to resolve the issue. This took a few tricks and maneuvers and many, many awesome skills (hers and our Doula’s - they made an awesome team) over a few hours and it all got solved, at our home, without excessive or intrusive interventions. I trusted her fully that if there was a reason to panic, she’d be showing me, telling me and that if a transfer was needed, we’d be on it in a heartbeat. But it never got to that. She, and our doula, helped me pass a few huge clots + retained membranes and my uterus was able to contract and establish a normal non excessive bleeding pattern. Stephanie was calm, confident and effective af and all of that communicated safety. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so deeply cared for at a moment of extreme vulnerability. I will always, always carry this experience with me. ❣️Though I was sad that my dear midwife Frances was unable to attend cause she was at a other birth, I was sooo happy to see her at our 2week follow up. And she’d also done our home visit + prenatal at 37w and it was magical. We laughed and joked and were so excited about what was to come. Her presence is also a steady one. And she’s also really funny. :p laughter is good medicine. There’s so much more to say, honestly. This is long overdue. I miss Tanelle, Devona, Stephanie and Frances! I literally still call them up and think about them regularly. The fact that they are here serving the greater houston area is such a blessing. Love + care + competence + openness + joy.Thank you thank you thank you. Beings of light.
If you are reading this review, you have found the right place! It is hard to even begin to describe my experience at BABC with words. All I can say is I truly believe Stephanie and Frances were sent by God to do this work. They are incredible at what they do. Talented, educated, experienced, compassionate, incredible, lovely lovely lovely women. I had my first baby at home and I know for a fact I could not have done it without them. I thank God for meeting them, and for not allowing people’s “opinions” about natural and at-home births sway my decision from doing what is best for me and my baby. I plan on having all of my children with BABC, and I will always have Frances, Stephanie, and Devona in my heart.
Stephanie, Frances, and the whole staff is amazing! They take the time to really listen and care for you. I came here at 32 weeks pregnant since I knew I wanted an out-of-hospital birth but was originally hesitant. Once here, I knew I had made the right choice. They always took the time to listen and answer every question, even my fiancé felt supported and was able to come to every appointment.I had a very long labor, yet Stephanie and France’s many years of experience were able to gracefully handle all situations and problems that arose. I was blessed and fortunate to give birth at BACBC. It was an unforgettable moment, and having Stephanie and Frances as my midwives was a blessing. The postnatal care was amazing too! I learned a lot about my baby and myself, which helped me better prepared for postpartum. I seriously cannot thank them enough! They went out of their way for the love and care I didn’t know existed in birthing.
This birth center was absolutely perfect for me. I knew from the beginning that I desired to have an out of hospital birth (water birth to be exact), I wanted midwives and a doula, I wanted something deeper and more personal than just short doctor visits but rather a community/family feel, I wanted birth classes and someone to be by my side through it all and I desired to have a birthing team to care about my emotional wellness on top of the physical. Bay Area Community Birth Center did all this and more! I felt completely understood, I never felt judged, I felt completely supported and undeniably loved. They helped me in every single way to get through my pregnancy as healthy as possible and to deliver a beautiful baby boy. I would recommend this team to ANY MOTHER in the area. I drove an hour to their facility because it was worth it. The education, relaxing environment, attention to detail and healthcare I received here was unmatched. The team here is more than a normal medical team that will get you in and out, but they are a family that will make your birth perfect for you and be there for you in whatever way you need. I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done for me! Highly recommend!
Very nice team of midwives and staff... Had two pregnancies here and was very calm and relaxing... I’d recommend going here...
You should birth here, period end of sentence. Starting with client intake with Tanelle, everyone on staff made me feel welcome and supported. I was especially nervous about selecting a facility/midwife because I was moving to Houston in the middle of my pregnancy (and a pandemic), but speaking with Tanelle and Frances put me immediately at ease. I appreciated being able to receive thoughtful answers to my questions because it showed they cared about me before I’d even booked with them. Once I was able to meet Stephanie and Frances in person, I was sure I had made the right decision. Also, a doula is provided to all first-time mothers which is a huge plus! Eleanor was great at helping me melt into the bed and take on each surge, one at a time. The nurse assistants and midwives in training were all very kind during my prenatals. My daughter arrived four weeks early and much faster than I expected. Stephanie was so knowledgeable and supportive in the days that followed. Birthing here felt like birthing with family. Birth requires surrender and a supportive family makes all the difference.I can’t recommend Bay Area Community Birth Center enough!
I had a consultation scheduled (a three week wait). I received a text the am of to confirm. Due to not texting back, I didn’t receive a call and when I called to inquire, (20 minutes after scheduled consult) the woman on the phone was EXTREMELY rude, and nasty. Birth should be left to the kind and compassionate. Sadly I didn’t even get to speak to the midwife, moving on with our search.
If I could give more stars, I would. Each appointment for prenatal care is all about you and healthy baby. Stephanie and her team take time to talk to you, understand your concerns, listen and provide sound advice and care. They really make personal connections and I always hated when my appointments came to an end. You will leave feeling empowered and confident that youre doing great for you and the baby.My birth experience was the absolute best. Very intimate and relaxing. Soft music was playing, essential oils burning, faux candles burning, warm bath water.Post natal, Stephanie came to my home at the 2 day follow up and really took the time to listen to my concerns, and provided real time guidance and reassurance. Even taught me how to wear baby! You come in as a client and leave the center as family. I will definitely come back for future births!
I could not have asked for a better prenatal and birth experience than what I received at Bay Area Community Birth Center. Stephanie, Frances, and Victoria were all amazing. They took the time to explain everything, answer every question, and ease every concern. After all the time we spent together preparing for my babys arrival, I consider them lifelong friends. From start to finish, these women were amazing ❤
I made a really great decision with choosing this birth center over a hospital. Frances and Stephanie are the best midwives anyone could ask for. My experience giving birth was great and made me feel very comfortable and at home! Would recommend.
Best decision I made. After seven births in a hospital setting and searching for an affordable birthing center, I found this one a couple months into my eighth pregnancy. They have been everything I always wanted when it comes to a Natural experience. My birthing experience was exactly what I wanted and needed. All the staff are just wonderful! Nothing but great things to say about them.
I’ve had 2 babies with the midwife staff here, and all of my experiences have been nothing but positive. They take time to listen and talk to you, share information, and take time to appreciate their clients from the moment we come in through the door!!
My wife and I had a great experience with the birth center from start to finish. When my wife first mentioned midwife I had no idea what that was. I did research and came upon the Bay Area Birth Center which had great reviews. Called them and set appointment to get understanding of costs and pregnancy process. They laid it things out simply and the beauty for those that dont want to go through the headache of insurance you can pay cash. We were in!Its great to know you can text and/or call several midwives with questions throughout the pregnancy. At the time of the birth we were able to communicate with them throughout the day full of contractions. If you were to do perform birth at hospital you are restricted from contacting provider and at the time of birth could see different crews. At birth center you will be with same crew that day of birth there is no one working on the clock if you will.
I’m not sure were to begin my review of Bay Area birth center, specifically the service of Stephanie and Camellia. These two women are beyond amazing.I had to transfer to them from another birth center at 31 weeks pregnant and was concerned about not bonding with them due to the time left in my pregnancy. The process from the start showed how much they cared. I would send detailed emails with questions and Camellia always made sure to respond quickly in reassuring me that all would be okay.During my care I saw both Stephanie and Camellia. They work wonderfully as a double team. My husband and I were at ease knowing that our midwives were more than capable to get us through what would be our most special day to date.Stephanie was on call the day we went into labor and we couldn’t have been more pleased with her calm nature. Things progressed very quickly while we labored at home. I was surprised when she told my husband over the phone that she would come and check me at home based on the information we were relaying to her that was happening. When she arrived I felt a relief seeing her face and reassuring me that this was the day that my baby was coming and that it was time to come to the birth center. The experience was exactly what I envisioned. Stephanie was drawing the bath upon our arrival. Lights were dim. Soft music was playing. When the labor intensified a bit I found myself always calling out for her as when she wasn’t in my line of sight I would panic a bit. Hearing her reassured me that everything was ok made me feel so much better.Upon delivery we had a bit of a scare with my son not breathing but I felt during the entire time we were in good hands. You could see Stephanie’s years of work as an RN come into play with her calmness and quick response in handling it all. Never did I felt that we weren’t in good hands. (That was a huge concern of my husband with birthing at a birth center vs a hospital and he too was impressed with how Stephanie handled the situation.)We are thankful that God led us to this practice and specifically to the hands of these midwives. It made the start to a new life chapter all the more memorable and special.
I love this place and with the new owner she gives her personal touches and attention to details. Even though the center is open 2 days a week for new clients its virtually open 24 hrs for its clients. So dont hesitate to stop by or make an appointment shell be happy to meet with you.
From prenatal to postnatal care, I loved my entire experience at this birth center. The midwives are wonderful, caring, and beyond qualified. I had exactly the birth experience I wanted here, and cant wait to have baby number two here in June.
I really cant say enough about Jackie and the others at the Bay Area Birth Center. From our introduction through post-partum care, the group has been professional, attentive, supportive, knowledgeable, and kind. Throughout the process, their communication was exceptional: always available for our questions and concerns, always communicating key insights that we needed to know, and always honoring our requests.During labor, the team was prepared and confident. Even though a complication arose, the midwife kept us calm and organized as we transferred to a hospital. Under her leadership, support, and guidance, we had a beautiful birth in less than ideal circumstances. The commitment to delivering and maintaining healthy babies and mothers is evident. It was a pleasure and honor to be involved with such a highly qualified team and I would recommend them to my anyone who hopes for a home/birth center birth.
Having had both the institutional experience and more natural experience in the Bay Area of California, we were a bit worried that we would not be able to find non-intrusive birthing options in the Houston area. Thank God that we found Bay Area Birth Center. All of the staff and midwives made our birth experience safe and comfortable, while completely respecting our birthing decisions and offering positive support. My wife and I would not hesitate for a second suggesting the Bay Area Birth Center to anyone looking to have a home-birth, or at the center.
I had a great birth experience with Jackie. She was very relaxed and patient, and I got to have my baby just how I imagined. I wish that I had been able to pay via in-network insurance, but otherwise no real complaints!
As a midwife, I selected my own care providers very carefully. I was so fortunate to have been cared for by the Bay Area Birth Center midwives at our home in Houston. The midwives gave us great personal care and helped us birth our daughter safely and peacefully.
Loved the people here! Made my experience having my daughter a memorable and happy one!
We loved bay area birth for the prenatal care and birth of our first child. Not many people understand what birth centers offer so Id like to detail. Appointments ate scheduled just as they would be in an OB office. Every appointment was at least 30-45 minutes so we always felt cared for and not rushed. Jackie was our midwife and we felt like she was not only our care provider but also our friend. When labor starts, you give them a call. You go to the birth center similar to when you would go to the hospital. You labor and deliver the baby there. After birth you stay at the center for 4-12 ish hours (not a hard rule). They stitch you up if needed, give you your golden hour of bonding post birth, and let you rest/enjoy the moment. They also spend time focusing on breastfeeding and evaluating the latch (a HUGE relief). After you go home they come to visit you 2 days after birth. Then you return to the office at 2 weeks and 6 weeks. During these visits they check on both baby and mom.For us the birth went just as we hoped. Jackie was there to guide us through any unforeseen events. My wife loved that they had a tub and shower to Labor in. The baby came out and the bay area team was there all the way. We live this team and look forward to baby number 2.Also note that they offer mid wife care for home births and they are fantastic at working with insurance.
After a lot of thought, my husband and I decided wed like to try for a natural childbirth because it seems like its generally the healthiest option for both mother and child. With our first childs birth, we found out how incredibly difficult it is to have a natural childbirth in a hospital setting and were blessed to find wonderful midwives in the area. Having recently moved to Houston, we were thrilled to find a similar practice nearby, Bay Area Birth Center. We are so happy with the care we received here. The midwives here are knowledgeable, attentive, and very kind. We were impressed with their approach to minor issues like slight anemia and itchy skin, first suggesting a dietary remedies, then iron and herbal supplements and keeping a close watch to see if anything further was needed. And our experience at the birth center was amazing. We came in the middle of the night and were led to a lovely, comfortable room with gentle lighting and soft music. I labored quietly with my husband at my side for most of the evening. Jackie checked on us periodically. The atmosphere was amazingly comfortable and supportive. The night felt almost like a long, late date with my husband. I cant imagine a better labor. I wasnt sure about water birth initially but as labor progressed, I found that I really liked the freedom of motion in the water, the cool air during contractions, and sinking back into the warm water between contractions. There were a couple scary moments during delivery with the cord around her neck and waiting for another contraction after her head but Jackie was calm and careful and everything turned out wonderfully. Afterwards, we were given time to rest. I was given a thorough check up, a few stitches and we were able to go home the same afternoon. I would enthusiastically recommend Bay Area Birth Center to pregnant friends seeking natural childbirth.
It was such a wonderful experience! I gave birth there in November 2015. Jackie, Camellia, and Tara delivered my daughter. Every midwife is so nice and respectful. You get treated like a person not a number and that your rights as a patient matter. If you have birth preferences they do their best to follow them unlike at hospital where birth plans get laughed at. I work at a hospital so I know how that can be sometimes. And just a side message to any mom reading these reviews considering a midwife and natural childbirth- you can totally birth your baby naturally! Choose a midwife and you will be glad you did. I felt like I could trust them and that they kept mine and my babys best interest as their top priority.UPDATE!!! As of March 18, 2018, I delivered my second daughter there at the birth center! Stephanie and Tara delivered her. I had a precipitous labor with back labor on top of that. Stephanie knew just what to have me do to get my daughter to turn anterior. They both kept me calm and were very encouraging. I had a water birth and I truly believe it was the best thing for the way my labor presented. They are amazing midwives! Stephanies many years of experience as an RN really shine through. Camellia wanted to be present again but I went into labor 2 weeks early! On day two postpartum Stephanie and Fabby (lactation consultant) made a home visit. I love that they do that. Going to your doctor after only 2 days is rough.I will repeat myself- if you are a mom reading these reviews and considering natural birth with a midwife you can do this! Obviously nothing in life is certain but just ask the OB/GYN youre considering what their c-section rate is and then ask the midwives how often they have to transfer care for a c-section. You might be surprised at what answer you get.
Loving, caring, family! That is how we felt from day one until birth. Thank you Camilla, Stephanie and everyone else!
Excellent care by excellent practitioners. Jackie & her team are wonderful role models. A million thanks!
If someone told me a year ago I would have a natural unmedicated birth in a birth center I would have laughed in their face. After nine years of infertility we finally found ourselves pregnant but uninsured. Being new to the Houston area I was searching for an OBGYN that would work with us. After calling several offices I quickly found that no one wanted to work with us because we did not have insurance. Each office called made me feel like a second class citizen because I did not have insurance. A friend told me about Bay Area Birth Center, but I was hesitant to have a baby without medication. I finally called the Birth Center and after speaking with Mary I immediately knew this was the place I wanted to have my baby. She was so kind and understanding and willingly gave me my options. My first visit to the Birth Center was equally pleasant. I met Jackie the owner and certified Nurse Midwife and she instantly put me at ease. When it was time for my sweet miracle baby to be born, the experience could not have been more perfect. Each midwife was in attendance and attentive. I enjoyed a peaceful quick birth in a relaxing and uplifting environment. I had my baby at two in the afternoon and by that evening I was released to go home. It was amazing to be able to go home and sleep in my own bed instead of being interrupted all night by nurses at the hospital. A home visit was done to check on me and my baby. I loved that I did not have to leave my home to go to a doctor’s office two days after giving birth. It was amazing to give birth with women who made me feel confident and capable throughout the process. The whole experience was customized to meet my needs and allow for what I wanted during the birthing process.Working with these women throughout my pregnancy was remarkable. I felt like not only was I thoroughly educated and cared for, but I was welcomed into a family of loving women who genuinely cared about me and my baby’s needs. I love being able to access my charts online. If I ever had questions or concerns I was able to text any midwife at the center and always received a prompt answer.I high recommend Bay Area Birth Center to anyone looking to have an outstanding birth experience.
My family has used BABC for the birth of both of children. The quality of care we received through both pregnancies were incredible. I cant imagine using anyone else.
These women are amazing, skilled midwives. They delivered both of my younger children at my home, and I couldnt ask for more skilled, caring attendants.
Did absolutely great things for my daughter, I thank God we knew of them.
