Wow what can I say! Thank you so much Pasadena Animal Shelter! We recently adopted a fuzzy orange tabby cat that we named Captain Treasure. He was severely injured when he came to the shelter and unfortunately had to have one of his front legs amputated. Most shelters would have just put him down. Thank you for saving his life and giving us the opportunity to add so much to our lives. As our family grows we are finally ready for the new addition to our home. He has been nothing but a pleasure to have and has no problem getting around. Hes gentle and sweet with our two children and he has already stolen our hearts. Thank you again I cant express how much are family appreciates you.
It was a delight getting myMolly there. Shes a wonderfully sweet little dog.The only bad experience isShe was covered in fleasReally bad! I wish they hadEnough workers to tend tothe animals that are severely infested with fleas!Other than that everything went well GOD BLESS & STAY SAFE
Dropped off an abandoned kitten that had been roaming around my house today and donated $100 to help with her expenses. The staff couldve been a little more friendly and at least thanked me for the donation. I wanted to feel like I was part of the solution and not the problem I guess. Hopefully they help her find a forever home because she just wants to be loved.
Really cares about helping the animals and community. I was there to pick up a foster and a homeless man came in to get dog food for his dog. They generously gave him a large bag. Thats incredible. 🥰
Within one day of my sister adopting a dog from this shelter, her and her friend were viciously attacked by the animal. I am assuming that the shelter does not preform aggression tests before putting dogs up for adoption. This unfortunate incident could have easily been prevented. The shelter refuses to communicate with my sister about the incident and is doing everything they can to block any association with this attack like deleting their social media posts about the animal.
BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! STAY AWAY!!I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE.I came in at 9am on Wednesday 5/19The short dark complected Hispanic heavy set lady with colored contacts in her eyes at the front desk was VERY RUDE and very unprofessional. With a look on her face that looked like she was having a bad morning, She said that I needed to find the dog in Pasadena before they could accept the dog. THENshe asked me to give her an address IN PASADENA where I found her. Since the address on my ID WAS FROM HOUSTON, my bf gave her his address ( from Pasadena) and she then proceeded to say that they still won’t accept the dog because the dog isn’t from Pasadena. What? I just told her we found the dog a few blocks down my street. I didn’t know I had to give details about my relationship and if it was me or my BF who found the dog? What does that matter? His address on his DL is from Pasadena! (These shelters are suppose to care about the animals NOT ASK PERSONAL questions about your life to determine whether they take the dog in or not. ) So first I needed to find the dog in Pasadena. Then she said to just give her an address in Pasadena Which is it? Both applied, and I still wasn’t helped. In the middle of my conversation with this employee, The other employee, heavy set, short, light complected male with black hair, got up from his chair and came around the desk and set a leash down for the dog in front of me, and walked away. Wow, you guys DO NOT NEED TO BE WORKING IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. Very RUDE and unprofessional.
So I tried to box in a loose dog running in the streets so it would not get hit it was around 1:30 pm. I went to the animal shelter near Crenshaw Park only one employee (male) was working I left the dog in my car with the AC on since I was waiting for more than 10 mins . An then a Hispanic like the lady that Houston, Texas and I have no call shelters I am just trying to leave a loose do. She was very rude telling me logic-wise if someone lost a dog blah blah hey, if you dislike your job do not work there Im just a stranger looking to help a loose animal.
Adopted out two of my three dogs from this shelter. Super sweet people who love animals! So happy I was able to work with them to get my rescues!
Today was a sad day. I had to drop off a beautiful mother cat and seven kittens that I had had the privilege of caring for two months. Neighbors moved and left her behind. I hope that someone special will adopt this mother or one or two of her kittens. They filled my apartment with so much love and joy. The largest kitten a gray striped one loves to have belly or chin rub and will fall asleep in your arms. The smallest gray striped one is a courageous warrior who will stand up to anything and run after adventure. She loved to follow her mommy cat around and imitate the mother. Three fuzzy little black kittens love to run and chase ping pong balls. The two tortuous ones were very shy and lovable. Here are some pics of the mother and kittens. It would be nice if a mom and kitten would be adopted together. I hope that whomever gets them loves the kitties as much as I did. I hope the kittens bring you as much joy as they brought me and my dog because this place seems empty without them. This Saturday is free pet adoption.. August 17, 2019. The mother is very young... about 9 months old. She loves to talk, catnip, scratch pads, sandwich meat, sleep with her owner, a lap kitty and is strictly an indoor cat. The kittens have never been outside, litter box trained, scratch pad trained, love toys, eats both wet and dry food. Please adopt pets responsibly. Thank you
Well I have called about 7 and no one has picked up the phone pure voicemail... and I have a dog that I cannot take care off anymore and they just won’t answer... I need help getting rid of the dog so if anyone wants it let me know !!!!
I did get a citation since my baby Bella didnt have her rabies shot... but thats the least of my worries cause I got her back home! She was missing for 3 long days, turns out when she got out she was hit by a car, and the person who hit her picked her up and took her to the Pasadena Animal Shelter, because she had no collar to identify who her owner was...I justwanna say THANK YOU, to whoever that person was because most wouldnt even stop to check on the dog... let alone drive them to the shelter to make sure she was gonna be okay!
Super friendly, genuinely caring staff. Fostered a pup that was reunited with its owner. They are always doing adoption events and working tirelessly to find forever homes.
Always helpful staff and pleasant experience.
Got the best Siberian Husky there and the staff was so helpful.
Very clean, and the people are very helpful.
Try a little kindness. Pls see Ken for further reference.May my sweet Peanut find the peace he deserved.
Very clean place. Friendly staff. Staff made the whole checkout to get our furry babies go very smoothly.Thank you!!!
Great facility and staff as far as I know..... Been going there for a couple of years now.
Great shelter. Staff is really helpful & easy to communicate with. I really appreciate what they offer when a pet is adopted from this location. We recently adopted a 2 month old puppy which included vaccines, chip, & neutering.
Great staff, very supportive and helpful.
They had no small dogs ..it was all big dogs..placed smelled terrible even at the entrance
My wife surrendered our cat because he kept bringing dead birds to our doorstep, leading to her getting flagged for letting him out. A few days later after feeling the void in our home without the cat, I put an application for him. The counselor called me and denied me for the reason my wife got flagged. She said everybody with the same address is now flagged. I begged her for a long time explaining how things would change and how I would become the primary care taker of the cat, but she just denied me and suggested I talk to her supervisor the following Monday. The supervisor called me and was interested in hearing me beg for the cat just to rebuttal everything I said. After a while she said that she would consider it if nobody else wanted our cat. She said Id receive an email if he got adopted. A few days later I noticed he wasnt on their site anymore but I hadnt gotten an email so I called. The counselor said he was still there but he was pending for adoption. They lied to me about receiving an email when he was adopted (never got an email), for him being the featured pet in order to get adopted (I checked their featured pets and he was never on there), and if his current owner would surrender him they would call me (theyre not taking in surrenders anymore) If anyone did adopt him please let us know. his name is Felix and his ID number is A141816
This place is a mess Goodluck trying to get a dog they dont answer there phones or emails. Always an issue with these people.
We went a little late so it was almost closing time but still got to see some Pups!
This shelter is spotless, outside runs complement inside facility. Their employees were so helpful, careful with the animals. I was really impressed, would compare it with CAPS in Katy, whichh for me is high praise.
Love this place. Come support the pets in need of a loving warm home.
Doing go to help us care for fur babies
Picked up the phone at least, but rather stand off-ish, like I was wasting their time
If i could take all the animals home, i would. I love the dog that we got from there. He is very protective of our baby and us.
Love this place.Pets need loving homes too.
Their staff is very accommodating and all their animals are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before you adopt them. Dogs with heartworms are given treatment for $75 upon adoption, which is a massive discount compared to a private vet. They are very patient with you while you meet and get to know the different dogs and cats so that you can find the perfect addition to your family. We met the sweetest dog and she brings nothing but joy to our house!
Not happy had to give up some of our dogs.. city sited us..cried the whole time...
One word, wonderful
Best place to adopt cats
My son adopted a kitten and the staff was wonderful.
I’m not sure how anyone adopt an animal here I’ve applied every time I call they tell me I have to reapply online they refuse to give me an appointment to meet an animal without applying online I guess I will try another shelter I really hope they don’t euthanize the dogs I was looking at
The staff here is friendly. We are very happy with our dog, Clutch.
I recently adopted a small dog and the staff was WONDERFUL and my little fur baby has a forever home. Thank you all so much. Savior had truely saved my life.
I just adopted a kitten from here 2 weeks ago. I took her to the vet the very next morning $200 later i find out she has ringworm. Its been 2 weeks of quarintine in my spare bedroom and i have been suiting up in ppe to go in there and care for her. I came down with it today!! I called them to let them know what she had immidiatley at the vets office. And they told me they dont have a vet on staff and that happens alot in shelters and i cannot bring her back!! Beware folks cause i have a sick kitty!!
Amazing place! Amazing staff! And they really care for the animals, doing what they can to find homes and spoil all of them with love in the meantime!
Good place to take animals that are unwanted so that they can be adopted by good people that would love them with all their hearts.
Awful time, was turned away by just about the rudest lady at the front desk who had noting but adds and fees to me dropping off some stray kittens. Just tried to help and these people do not put the animal first at all. sad!!
The communication is the worst, dont return calls or answer the phones
Very frustrating, you cant go look at any of the pets you cant pick a forever pet from an online photo. Im sure the adoption rate is down and feel so bad for all of the pets just waiting & waiting for someone to come and pick them to go to their forever home 😢
I was glad they took the injured duck,
Please read the added paragraphs, and please be sure of the facts before making judgements. These are wonderfully caring people working very hard to do an impossible job. They are definitely a FIVE STAR shelter and would love your help.I volunteer here and am in love with the care and concern they offer stray, abandoned, unwanted pets. They are always over full because of the need.Adopt. Dont shop, and help give the precious animals the forever homes they deserve.I find it amazing the number of people who seemed to have adopted Buddy, the puppy who died as a result of heat. The puppy was not killed. It was a tragedy that effected everyone. However, Buddy’s owner returned to the shelter and adopted two more. It was well publicized, but I guess many people who saw the story about his death didn’t notice the one about the new adoptions.Pasadena Animal Shelter still deserves five stars. Oh, and as far as the adoption center...every kennel there is filled, adoptions are taking place and dogs are being constantly moved from one side to the other.
Got city license for my dogs. In and out in about 5 minutes.
I just loved everything about this shelter. From the staff to the animals.i got to adopt a beautiful boxer. Hes so affectionate and lovable boy. Thank you to all who helped me with the adoption process. T-Bone (his name now) is in his forever home. We are eternally grateful to everyone with our adoption.
THE FRONT DESK PEOPLE ARE SO RUDE! Chear up for goodness sake! It’s suppose to be a happy time for us when adopting a animal and the people who work at the front desk ruin it! When I ask a question they give me a answer with no smile and a sorry attitude. I’m looking into adopting a dog I liked there and I nicely asked what is he mixed with and the lady said “how am I suppose to know that? I don’t know who the mom and dad is” okay great you don’t know but she could of been nice about it. I can only imagine how they treat the animals. AND CLEAN THE CAGES FOR THESE POOR DOGS!! They all had poop all over them every time I went! When trying to adopt a animal your suppose to clean them up make them presentable for people but obviously they don’t care if they get adopted out as long as they get paid for the week. I didn’t go to the cat area I was already sad enough for the dogs but I’m sure the cats were probably in no better situation. FIND A BETTER STAFF HERE!! HORRIBLE!!
Went there for city tags for my newly adopted shelter pet. Good experience
10 years ago there were really nice people there and they seemed to really care about the animals. Today it is more of a tax supplied euthanasia camp. I know that the new adoption building rarely has many animals while the old build is full of animals that will never make it over. Like PITA there murder rat is high and this is from the people that work there. Very sad place.
We adopted our pittie 2 years ago after Hurricane Harvey. At that time, many of the dogs had already been transported out to safety due to the hurricane. Our dog is loving and has been a welcome addition to our family.I would like to commend the workers and administration at the shelter for their dedication and hard work to assist cats and dogs to find loving homes and/or foster homes.Without this no-kill shelter, these dogs and cats would be homeless and suffering exposure, hunger and illness in addition to unwanted reproduction. Please consider volunteering or making a donation.
Seems like a lot of money was spent on the new facility to only house a few pets. It is beautiful, but the money could have been spent to house more animals. And, one row you can only see from outside. When we visited, it was raining so it was difficult to see into the cages. Most of the cages we saw needed cleaning, feces in many cages. The pets seemed happy.
The staff there are absolutely passionate about animals and about finding every dog a forever home! Ive had nothing but positive experiences with them. ❤
Adopted a cat 3 weeks ago. She’s a wonderful addition to the family. Thank you PAS for making it a smooth process.
Wish they could wash each dog kennel as soon as possible when they do there business, seeing dogs that are sick in there stomach is hard to look at ....the smell is out of this world. But just like living close to the petroleum plants it is something that you should be expecting to smell.
Last time I came here I found a pup and asked the front desk if it would be okay to take him into the petting room. The volunteer worker that was supposed to get the dog was rude and honestly seemed liked she couldn’t careless that a dog had a high chance of being adopted. She said the dog couldn’t be visited and just left with no explanation.
Not the best it stinks they dont clean or take care the animals neglected
Well lots of dogs in cages in a square building. You can guess what that smells like. But nice animals waiting to be taken home.
I have found and adopted a wonderful pet. I read all the bad reviews about this shelter and I believe they are incorrect. I was given a leach and a collar for my adopted pet. Over the past months, I was interested in many different dogs before I made a commitment to adopt. The staff took the time to call me, respond to my inquiries and updated me with information. The dog that I adopted had an infection. I was suppose to wait 10 days before I could adopt; however, they allowed me to bring the dog home immediately with the promise to continue his care. They believed that an earlier adoption was in the animals condition best interest. This way the dog would get better rather than pick up germs and get worst. I love this dog!!!! Adopt and change a pets whole life. Adopting a pet is good for your self-esteem.
People need to adopt from shelters. This shelter was over crowded. The 4 star rating was for smell and the fact there was too many dogs with poop in their cages
Friendly staff. Love to help the fur babies.
I just want to said thank you to all volunteers there. They are overwhelmingly full(3 larhe dogs per cage) and they keep smiles on their faces. Very welcoming.
I know its hard to keep the smell down, but wow. One dog had poop all over the kennel and on his feet.... hard to visit a dog like that. Roomy kennels, though.
Be CAUTIOUS while using this place to transport your pets! This place killed a 5 month old puppy due to a worker leaving the poor baby in the transportation bus, the puppy passed away due to a heat stroke and no action is being taken against the worker who killed the poor puppy!I’m not saying don’t adopt from this place, as these animals there need out of there seeing this place isn’t capable of caring for animals. They need to be adopted to forever loving homes. But please be cautious of what services they’re doing for you! This shelter should be ashamed of themselves with how they handled the death of this 5 month old puppy and that worker should be FIRED!
Let me start by saying the photos on Petfinder are awful and Id be happy to update them with little outfits and props and happy looking cats if you all would like help with that, Id volunteer my time and skills to help get more adopted. The cats all look terrified and theyre being held under their front arms with no back end support and whoever is holding them has medical gloves on, it just looks like theyre all miserable. If you want good photos like Second Chance Pets, contact me. That was just my web experience. Walked in last week was told to go into the cat room with no direction, but the girls at the front desk were busy and nice in their defense. Had to wander through the dog section to find the cats that you cant even touch unless youre sure you know which one you want. We walked into the room and then a kennel attendant walked in and my mom and I said, Hello! pleasantly. She ignored us completely so my Mom said it again, nothing. She said it a third time and the girl turns around and is like, What? Mom was like, We were just saying hi. She then muttered something and walked out, she was extremely rude and hateful and I hate to think shes talking care of any animals. We put in an adoption application and got no follow up whatsoever and ended up adopting from a different rescue instead.
This shelther dont want to helpI found a dog # 985112011228914I took him over there and they didnt want to accept the dogThis is terrible shelther
Staff are so very friendly! We got a new beautiful German Shepard pup this afternoon. Clean place! Enough space to bring your dog to meet and greet their new best friend
If I could give them zero starts I could. My boyfriend dropped off our dog to the shelter Thursday morning to get transferred to the vet to get neutered. The worker driving the van left our dog in the van for an excessive amount of time and our dog died of a heat stroke Friday at 2 am. We spoke to the shelter and they called it an, “accident.” This was not an accident, this was negligence. We asked to speak to the worker to understand how something like this could happen. They wouldn’t allow it and said it was not the best thing for her, but she’s not the one with the dead dog. We are heartbroken, upset that no action was taken against her, and hope this never happens again to any dog
These guys were very helpful very professional I couldnt ask for a nicer person to help us out the manager was extremely nice I would highly recommend this place these guys are doing the best they can with what resources they have theres people coming in and out every 2 minutes cut him a break anyway Pasadena Animal Shelter keep up the great work and thank you again for all your help you really made our day with our stupcat Riley God bless keep up the good work
My cousin took her dog here to get taken to the vet and the driver “accidentally” left him in the van for God knows how many hours . When they found him, he was in shock and overheated . They told my cousin that he would recover from the shock and this morning, he died. Now they’re telling us the driver feels “really bad” like if she’s the one with the dead dog. This shouldn’t “accidentally happen to anyone’s dog.
Clean, and friendly staff
Im so thankful they do what they do. Pups and kittens need help and thats what they do. Helpful and nice staff. The poor animals here are so hard to look at. Please consider adopting and try to avoid breeders.
Worst adoption experience of my life. I did a meet and great between my dog & the dog I was trying to adopt. The other dog was highly aggressive towards my dog, we spent an hour or more trying to make it work with no luck. The handler of the other dog agrees it was not a good fit. When I informed the staff that we could not take the dog due to her aggression toward my dog they made me feel awful and told me I needed to take her anyway. They said the handlers opinion didn’t matter, that they had the final say. I was devastated that it did not work out between my dog & the other dog but I was absolutely appalled at the shelter staff and how rude they were to me and their willingness to put both dogs in a dangerous and toxic situation.
This place deserves no stars, they have workers who do not take good care of your animals and they do not address such as a death they caused with any seriousness, they treated my friends dog’s death as if it wasn’t a big deal and are not willing to take any actions against the worker who left their dog outside in a heating van. Their poor 5 month old puppy died as a direct result of their negligence.
Fire the employee who allowed a 5 month old puppy to die in a hot van. Its not just a mistake, its negligence and in fact CRIMINAL. He was dropped off to get neutered, not murdered.
This clinic was efficient and organized. They called promptly after we submitted our application, and had the kitten we had chosen ready to go. Spaying was done for us as well as a rabies shot given. The staff were very kind, courteous and polite. Well done.
This place should be closed. The pet police kept coming to our home wanting to get in the patio and check our pets. They had no reason to be there. So much hostilely to people who own pit bulls.
Went to visit dogs to try to adopt one . sadden due to most dogs had poop in their cages, they were shaking because it was cold in there for them and most dogs were sick. some were under weight and some didnt have their info stating details on their cages. I left from there so disappointed. however employees were nice, friendly, and answered all my questions . I do highly recommend to anyone to visit this place to see dogs, I believe I just got there too early that day and things were still being done .. overall place was clean . theres plenty of free parking and its handicap accessible.
Horrible! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE !, went to adopt a kitten for my little brother since it was his birthday and the front desk lady was very rude and said we were touching all over the place when We weren’t. I was holding my daughter for her to not touch none of the kittens there VERY RUDE. Kids came out crying, even I cried . I am very mad if I could put a ZERO, i would !! If you don’t like your job then look for another one rude people !! I don’t know if the lady got mad because I told another lady that was there that I was so sorry for her loss, but i will look for another place so DO NOT GO HERE.
Animals are well taken care of, staff are really friendly and re ready to help you find your furry friend. We been foster parents at this location for a while now
This shelter is nearly No Kill. Only if you are a member of a private rescue can you appreciate what that means. It means literally hundreds of people communicating with one another about current wants and needs of not only companion animals but also supplies and medical issues. So dont offhandedly be critical; in other words, if you dont play the game, dont make the rules.
I like how animal control only picks up dogs and takes them here if they know they can make money from adoption fees. There are strays all down the street I live on but somehow the officer is blind and never sees them. My dog gets out and hes picked up right away. The workers at the front desk arent any better. Pasadena needs to step up and not hire just anyone.
I was in the hospital and I didnt have any money to get dogfood and they helped me out with some!!! Thank you very much!!!😍😍😍
The best
I found a puppy on freeway feeder. Took it up there to drop it off. They are so good with animals. I signed up to volunteer. I love the work that they do.
Great people
So my puppy Buddy has recently passed away. Thursday morning I dropped him off at the Pasadena Animal Shelter to get transferred to their vet to get neutered. My dog was then left in the van for who knows how many hours by one of the shelters vet tech. Buddy died Friday at 2AM of a heat stroke. The worker who left my dog in the van is still working at the shelter and no action was taken against them. The shelter is treating this as a mistake and this was not that, this was negligence. I just want justice for Buddy. If anybody has any information of what I can do to ensure there is justice for my dog please let me know. Recent events here, people be mindful where you take your pets):
Very nice faculties. Much better than the equivalent in surrounding towns.
