This is a super friendly and comfy local store. They have lots of variety, near-expiry deals on meat (I got a $3.50 steak cut once that had a best buy date two days away - amazing!), and a nice collection of pastries and cakes. The prices on daily items are a little expensive, but they have a wide selection. They also have MASSIVE vegetables.
Local SF Bay Area chain store thats done a good job of staying competitive amongst the larger grocery chains. This is for their Palo Alto store. They carry some brands and items that I cant find elsewhere, and most of theregular items.I also like their deli counter where I can get a vegetarian sandwich thats tasty. Their sushi take-away seems popular, but being vegetarian Ive not tried it. Organic and conventional produce available. They also have a good selection of baked goods, including fresh daily pastries from Starter Bakery, one of my favorites!
This store has great quality stuff. A bit pricey but its super nice.Doug is amazing. He is kind and sweet, very welcoming. Plan on going back whenever in the area. Customer service is excellent ( thank you, Doug:).
Just had the pot roast. It was so good Im writing this post. Thanks for the experience. Much better than expected!
I used to go here occasionally for hard-to-find items. The prices are high, but thats usually the trade-off to be able to get some stuff. The last time I went there, I found multiple items spoiled (moldy, dried out) when I got home that were recently packaged and several days before the best before date provided. Either they are mislabeling or they have a serious lapse in quality control. I dont think Ill be back.
Great selection of healthy foods. Friendly, healthy staff. Prices are a bit high. Very clean.
We LOVE Mollie Stone! It has so much variety and carries many ethnic foods, so there is always something new to try.
Found this MS by happy accident. Much smaller than the one I am used to, in Burlingame. (For people who have never shopped at a MS, just know; they are very high priced). Hungry for lunch, I salivated over thoughts of Hot Foods, Gourmet Sandwiches, Fresh Baked Pizza, Salad Bar, etc.. I decided on soup & salad. Unfortunately, the options were very minimal, (and for some odd reason; the arugula and Caesar Salad were with the hot foods). Everything was pretty fresh, although the Spring Mix was wilted. It was just not the sprawling salad bar that I was used to. I also picked up a small Shitake/Portobello Mushroom soup. The soup was very tasty and my salad was good. But I probably wont be back.
This is a great local chain. I come each year from the East Bay to buy all my Passover essentials. If there was a Mollie Stones near me, it would be my go to store. Great variety and helpful, friendly staff.
The staff and the managers were all very responsive in all aspects of their work. Next time, Ill probably try the snack bar inside. Highly recommended to everyone!
Amazing, super friendly small grocery store with quite a wide and varied selection. Plenty of parking.
Very good mechandise. Very clean. Not cheap.
Nice personnel and high quality. But, the most expensive supermarket I know off. May be double the price on some products (or more) with respect to other vendors. 5 star quality, 3 star for the high prices.
I have shopped at Mollie Stone’s for decades. They are a class act from A to Z, always accommodating and gracious. Their produce is terrific, their deli sandwiches are amazing, and throughout the store the overall selection is good. I’ve especially appreciated the rigorous attention they have paid to our safety during covid.
The selection is great, but the prices are really high. I love supporting local businesses, but buying anything not on sale here breaks my budget.
I was able to find some baking supplies I needed here after going to 3 Safeway, Luckys and Zanotto. Didnt have days to wait for something on-line to arrive so I checked stores on my way from work. Mollies came through... Thanks!
Great quality meats, good selection of produce, a lot of it organic. Has a deli section. BBQ on Fridays. Mapped-out traffic flow to comply with Covid-19 distancing - just a little hard to get by the check-out lines to get from one half of the store to the other. Disinfect their cars after each use. Additional wipes readily available.
Quite pleasantly surprised by this store. Slightly expensive (but not as much as whole foods), but overall quality is very good. We went there quite often when we lived in Palo alto
They have good stuff for sure, pricey though. They dont restock their product you have to ask for them to reorder when product is out . Isnt that what inventory is for can be super frustrating
Terrible service. Overpriced . Bad produce. Just one type of overpriced bananas. Safeway which is not great is far far better. Plus great discounts with Safeway card and I’ve always had super nice considerate service . Bottom line, if u have other options open near u take those .
The products are mislabeled and they charged me a random high amount for the tomatoes. Tomatoes had 2 different labels with different prices and the same code. I told the cashier about the problem and asked him to use the lowest price, but I didnt check it myself. That was a mistake. They ended up charging me, not only the highest amount, but even a higher price. I found it when I was out of the store, so I decided not to go back to the store. I feel they really tricked me on purpose. Check your bills if you buy here. I will not, anymore.
Dynamic selection of groceries.
Mollie Stones has a great selection of high-quality items.
Delicious deli, Uncrowded, careful, and they even let me use the restroom. some grocery stores during covid19 dont permit that. Its a problem.
Very good quality but frequently under-staffed and very pricey. Orange-juice machine brilliant, but not entirely reliable. Got snarled at once over replenishing it. Great location and ample parking. Very clean and neat. Fair wine selection and above average deli.
Mollie stones is tops in offering a.variety of foods.Their customer service always makes me feel good.If ever there is a problem the manager will listen and help resolve any issue.Pricing is high compared to other area stores. However, I can always count on M S’s to have fresh quality produce and a great selection of food.Paula Leslie
Too expensive, not much variety, and much choice for grab and go food. Overally clean and poor.
I am continually disappointed with this store. Outrageous prices for food that is not of good quality. The green beans i paid 3.99 a pound for were stringy and inedible. Strawberries were tasteless and were not at all sweet. Melons were awful. And it goes on and on. I dont know they get away with selling inferior products to the public. Sometimes a good sale or two.
Their fruit quality is really amazing. Even though its expensive than other stores, the quality of everything ( esp fruits and vegetables) speaks for itself. They also provide chopped fruits and vegetables which would save lots of time. Moreover they serve amazing pasta and soups. Even you can also get customize vegan cake from their bakery.
Great selection of many quality items for considerably less. very helpful staff. I recommend this place highly!
Looks nice but thats because youre definetly paying for it. One of the most over prices delis I have ever seen (not to mention that everything else is overpriced as well).
Absurdly high prices not justified by the quality of their products. If you’re gonna charge super premium prices, you should have super premium quality.
High quality foods, somewhat expensive
A great little health /organic grocery store on the end of California Ave. Has a small parking lot that usually fits the crowd. Expect slightly higher prices, but also usually healthy and organic options. Check sales and specials for deals. Staff is super helpful and friendly. Takes credit cards.
5 stars only because lady who makes my sandwiches always has a way of making me feel special. An extra piece of Andes mint chocolate here and an extra pickle there (I love both).I love the quality and selection of their sandwich menu. Its a local mini-chain with specialty products, that match the price--which often times they have people who offer samples of their products. I wouldnt come here to do all of my grocery shopping, but if I needed something quick, it is my go to place.
Produce guys arent helpful at all. they tend to ignore you if you dont look wealthy enough to shop here . i usually come in and use the restroom while my better half shops for her instacart customers and I notice she never gets any help from the workers in the produce area either.its sad to say, unless you LOOK like you belong in the neighborhood they wont give you good service. today I went in like any other day and the gentleman giving samples of this beverage that was 25 calories was super nice and didnt act like we were out of place. I believe his name was David.great guy and definitely had great conversation.if he was only around as a brand ambassador then the store might want to hire him directly to train employees on how to treat customers.
Good selection; friendly folks; not crowded
My best friend works here so its automatically amazing.. They also have a good selection of gluten free items and assorted chocolates.
This supermarket is very convenient as its very easy to park and its never too busy. You can find good quality products but it can be a bit pricey. Not much variety for cheese. Their deli is OK, not great.
Cool place. Okay bakery and food bar options given upscale prices.
Very good shop for wine, pasta and baking products. Their fresh produces do not seem to be too fresh. I flagged some mild on a few cakes and they removed them from the fridge. Since then I do not buy fresh food there anymore.
What makes shopping at Mollie Stones so special is as much the wonderful staff as it is the quality and selection of goods offered at the California Avenue store. They are such nice folks that the experience of shopping there sometimes touches the heart. Happy, good people, always smiling and eager to help out.
I LOVED this store! It was so beautiful to see all the colorful produce and they have isles of cute things you just have to have! Open salad bar with a lot of good stuff!
More expensive than whole foods with less produce selection & lower quality. Lots of the beer on the shelf was well past expiration date. Low ceilings, overall dated feel.
Has a amazing kosher section including delli and frozen pizza, we came just as they were closing and they let us come in and buy anyways
I just bought a roast beef sandwich at this store. It was the worst tasting roast beef I have ever tasted. It was void of flavor unless wet cardboard is a flavor. I paid $10 for this sandwich. What a waste! This is not the first time I have been disappointed by the deli department here. Ive tried different sandwiches thinking it was just one bad experience however, I will never buy a sandwich from this store again!!! I cant afford to try it again.
Awesome place to stop on a road trip. Love the one hour free EV charging- it makes up for the high prices. Today though one of the two EV Stations is stuck.
Produce and meats always taste wonderful. Staff is super friendly. Convenient location right next to the train station.
Really like the soups and the salad bar! Fresh orange juice from the juicer is also delicious.
A very clean grocery store with high-end pricesOnly three stars because for what theyre charging the food here should be organic but its not and the organic options are really lackingIf you need flowers for your special lady friend they actually do have a fabulous selection of flowers
This market is my favorite. Fresh lunches everyday and quality bakery. The service is always friendly.
Nice local grocery store. Lots of beautiful produce. A great selection on organic food. The prices are higher than average.
Interesting mix of items for a grocery, but I am always able to find what I am looking for. There is an animatronic singing spectacle that will keep children entertained while you order a fresh sandwich at the deli.
They have a buffet kind of meal with cost per weight basis. Though price is high, choices are plentiful. Packed salads are of decent cost.
Been going here for over 20 years it has a great manager with great checkers a little pricey but the staff is worth it most of the time
I only shop here every week because my family cant afford a car and this is the farthest I can walk to. Its far too expensive and the employees who work at the checkout lanes seem strangely almost mistreated. I do not enjoy having to go here for my food.
Great selection of food. Even found reduced acid coffee. Many kosher items and several kinds of challah
Good produce but sometimes meat products not as fresh as other places. Pretty pricey but some good options and great salad bar and hot soup/chilis
Fabulous store with wide selection of FRESH prepared foods to go -- a destination for gift items, fresh bakery items, and local novelties.
The food is good, but not any better than what you can get at whole foods or Safeway for cheaper. Their whiskey collection is surprisingly good though, and less overpriced than the rest of their stuff
Great produces. Love the Deli and cold / hot buffet. Some employees have a bit of an attitude, hence the lack of a fifth star.
Pretty good selection though not as high end as Whole Foods. Large Kosher selection.
Great grocery store next to CalTrain. Great for picking up groceries and hopping on a train after work.
You can literally find everything here. High quality provisions and good, friendly service.
Love this place great snack foods there and great wine and champagne collection.
So conveniently close to where I live...having my first Molly Stone Chocolate Cake from the bakery...sooooo good!
Great neighborhood store, cashiers make you feel like a family member, they have fresh produce and anything else you could ever need.
Homemade Butternut Squash Bisque to die for. Rare Kosher section. Organic fruits and Veggies.
Very expensive but great quality food and excellent service!
I love this store. Great people. Great product.
Heres a European perspective; For someone from Europe a store like Mollie Stones is a godsend. They carry a bunch of European groceries, like European prusciutto (Spanish and Italian) European sparkling water (San Pellegrino and Perrier), European cheeses (Brie, Gorgonzola, Cambozola, Roquefort) and they actually sell real bread, not that toast thing American stores sell and their bread is neither sweet nor overly sour. Its just real bread in the European sense of the word. They also sell American goods for those a bit more adventurous. They are not bad at all, even though I was horrifically disappointed by the packaging of American prusciutto. I bought a pound of sliced American prusciutto for 6 dollars, but the slices instead of being laid out individually like in normal prusciutto packaging, were squashed together into a tangled ball of meat, which was impossible to untangle. By the taste of it wasnt half bad, it was reasonably decent prusciutto, but the horrible mess they made with packaging just totally destroyed it.Their fruit and vegetables are superb, no two ways about it, fresh, ripe, juicy, wonderful. If quality fresh fruit and veg is your thing, Mollie Stones is your place. They offer great sandwiches and soups for lunch. The downside is however, that the prices are enormous. For the European goods, 100g pack of Italian prusciutto is going to cost around 15 dollars, about 10 times the price in Europe. Spanish goes for 25. Same goes for cheeses and water. Prices are just over the top. My American colleagues say even the American goods are quite pricey there. But the store has a clean, well maintained feel to it, no section of it smells bad (I have noticed foul smells in a number of American grocery stores), the staff is competent and friendly, so if you can spare the expense, its a pleasant shopping experience, sort of half way home. I recommend Mollie Stones, but watch out for the prices, because a breakfast of prusciutto, Brie, some tomatoes and a loaf of bread can easily cost you 50 dollars.
Suuuuuper overpriced and obviously meant to serve the Palo Alto elite. Seriously, dont make the same mistake I did unless you can afford it!
Best thing about Mollie Stones is the fresh, squeeze-it-yourself orange juice! Good produce and very friendly and helpful staff, too.
Very good grocery store especially for buying meats and pre made foods.
Extremely expensive (overpriced) and not particularly good quality, some dried goods within a week of use-by and clearly spoilt.
Clean, organized market. Very consistent with friendly employees.
Great grocery store! Good prices on most things, good quality, nice selection.
Nice people, almost anything youd need, reliable quality from veg to meats.
Great choice service but pricey
The best sandwiches, and the service are excellent, general all food at the deli department are so good.
Nice store with nice selection of fruits and vegetables and a meat counter.
Nice staff but there prices are higher.
Always friendly staff and good food. A bit pricey but not for this area!
A little pricey but great alternative to whole foods
Nice local store with bio and fresh vegetable and fruit. Everything you need if you are into bio produits.
The staff was very helpful and I found what I wanted right away.
Good selection of quality organic food but could improve on choices.
This store is not very crowded but doesnt have as much choice as other grocery stores.
Theyre produce is so fresh and theyre deli salads are delicious
Good clean store excellent quality, wish it were cheaper
Good variety of fresh produce and farm raised organic fed meats.
Store has a large selection of nice looking and unique items. However it has kind of an unclean, slightly objectionable smell, especially in the back section.
Good salad and lunch bar but sort of pricy as well
Good food and nice kosher selection. A little pricey
Pricey but the food is always delicious. Sometimes it can be hard to find what youre looking for but not nearly as bad at Trader Joes. Their ice cream selection is top notch.
Supermarket has very nice looking produce, but it is quite a bit more pricey than Safeway or Trader Joes.
They have everything you need and very fresh produce..
Good selection, kosher food available. A little pricey.
Great selection of organic produce, gourmet ingredients and household staples!
