Came here during the presidents day long weekend, and joined the Murray canyon tour at 11 am. Tried to call ahead but unfortunately they do not take reservations. Recommend to get here early to ensure you can ride during the session you want.The whole tour was around 2hours, and costs $120 per person. The stable provides helmets, cowboy hats, boots, and saddle bags free of charge. They do not allow personal backpacks or slings, and require riders to put all personal items in the saddle bags. They also provide complimentary cold bottle waters, which was nice.They gather the group and depart from the stables around 10:40 am. We follow their truck into the Indian canyons preserve, which is where the trail starts. They will ask you regarding to your riding experience and select the suitable horse accordingly. The ride itself last around 1:30 hours. Excellent experience and definitely recommended.
My mom and I did the longer trail ride. It was gorgeous! We both had prior riding experience but had not been on a horse in a long time. The guides were very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna around us which was awesome. There were other riders in our group with children and the guides were great and engaging with them. After the ride they offered to take pictures for us before we got off the horses. 10/10 would recommend!
What a great way to spend some time in the afternoon. Everyone at the stables is friendly, professional. The horses all seemed well trained and tame. The ride in the wash is full of all sorts of wildlife. Our guide Tony has a great wealth of knowledge and experience with the terrains and the animals.Highly recommend.
Just horseback riding in the desert, it is what it is. I mean, how could I rate them badly? You get on the horse and follow everyone else, lol. We had no issues and everyone was happy, however, us in the back couldnt hear a word from the guide way up at the front. I heard later that he was describing and pointing out certain things, but none of us could understand a word. Thats not a big deal for me, as I wasnt there for a guided tour. However, if that is to be a feature in the tours, they may want to invest in a small one-way speaker contraption that hangs on the horn, so every rider can listen in if he or she wishes?Also, just for other future customers, the Murray Canyon Haul Ride can be a bit scary, if you havent ridden a horse before. The horses follow a path that can be steep and is littered with rocks, and even I was a bit freaked out at some points, like if this horse trips or slips and we go over the edge....Im a goner. But ol Moose was slow and careful and we emerged all right. Dusty and sun-burned, but alive.I found out later that the company expects us to tip the guides(?), and I didnt have any cash on me. But since I couldnt hear the guides anyway...so this 5-star review will have to do.
We love the host and the horses, but the trip was really hard. I would not recommend it to go after 11am when it is hot and too much dust on your way. The guy who helped us and was our guide talked with us all the time, and was very hard to concentrate on the beauty around. But we saw the house of Marilyn Monroe and dead body of coyote. At least we got that experience and understanding that riding is not the dream of our life!

It has been my dream to do a horse ride on a desert trail so I had very high expectations for this place. They exceeded all my expectations. We had a wonderful ride with an awesome guide, Ryan. He knew all about the area including local plants and history. It’s a family owned stable and it shows in how much they care for the horses and their guests.
The people that own this place are nice as can be. They made the experience wonderful.

Wonderful staff, fit well cared for horses and magnificent scenery! Im in town filming a western movie and spur of the moment decided to go for a ride, the online process was easy and fast, the staff at the ranch very helpful, what I was most impressed with was the care and quality of care given to the horses! Had a great ride with the family, but I was forbidden to wear my cowboy hat. Unsurprisingly, the wrangler for my group wore his.UPDATE: I returned for another great ride through the canyons, past the palms, and along the springs. This time they was no noise about my cowboy hat. Western hospitality at its finest. Star added.

Smoke Tree Stables are my favorite part of visiting Palm Springs every year! The early-morning one-hour trail ride is absolutely amazing. Watching the sun come up over the mountains from the back of a horse on a calm trail? A stunning experience you wont find anywhere else in the area! The staff are incredibly nice and professional, and youll feel comfortable no matter what skill level you are. Tip - wear tennis shoes or boots for a more comfortable ride. I cant wait to come back and do the longer, excursion ride!
Sensational trail ride! Highly recommend the 2 hr for ultimate experience; we rode along one fault lines crest as we viewed another, the San Andreas, across the desert floor. Wrangler Chris (trail guide) was easy going, knowledgeable, and my Palomino surefooted and responsive.I cant wait to go again!
Smoke Tree Stables is AMAZING!My 7 year old & I took a group ride in the Indian canyons. My daughter had never been on a horse and was very scared. They were extremely helpful in making her feel safe & comfortable.They are well organized and know what they are doing!I will definitely be recommending them to friends & family.

My husband and I have been riding at Smoke Tree Stables for 40 plus years! The horses are safe and sound and the staff professional. The ride throughthe Canyons is beautiful, not to be missed. Owner Casey is the greatest.

Took the 1 hour trail ride first thing in the morning as it is super hot in Palm Springs. The price was $60 per person and the give you a water to take and includes: saddle bag to store belongings, use of helmets or hats. Hannah was our guide and was so personable, she really made is comfortable. We saw a baby coyote running alongside us for a bit, a bunny family, and more wild bunnies. The trail was pretty flat with only a few slight uphill and downhill parts. Our horses like to stop to eat along the way. Definitely be back in the fall to do the longer trail ride through the Indian trail.
Awesome place for Horseback riding in Palm Springs! My mom and I did the 1 hour riding tour that goes along the base of the mountain. We are beginner riders and all the staff took part in giving us helpful tips. Perfect pace to take in the beautiful desert views. Our guide Jesus was great and very helpful during the ride. My horse Ricky was the best! Fun fact about Ricky.... he loves to eat! Every opportunity he had to snack on the wild plants he took it! Highly recommended. I’d like to go back and do the 2 hour scenic tour.
This week on a girls trip we went in the Indian Canyon ride with a private guide. It was incredible! It is so close to Palm Springs and easy to get to. Fun ride with switchbacks and river crossings. Beautiful views. The guide was extremely informative and knowledgeable. The horses were very responsive. Thanks, Rocky! Even when the guide’s horse got a bit spooked about something, my horse and others in my group stayed calm and I felt very safe. Would absolutely come back again!The reason for four stars is when I booked on the phone I was told if it wasn’t busy they would waive the fee for the private guide. When we arrived (on a weekday) we were the only three people there but were still charged the extra $100 for the private guide which was disappointing.
Awesome way to spend an hour! Our guide Chris was very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. My son is 64, 220. They didnt even bat an eye. Had a great, calm horse for his first time riding :)

Everyone was very helpful and super friendly. Were beginners and were immediately able to feel comfortable and confident. Alex was our guide, his knowledge about the local plants and animals definitely made our ride more enjoyable. Professional and pleasurable, would definitely recommend.

Smoke Tree Stables offers a Therapeutic program that focuses on what the horse can bring into the process of insight, change and healing. Group activities with the horse will involve various themes including boundaries, self-esteem, relationships, and mindfulness.

Horse was excellent for a special ride in Catalina with Los Caballeros group. My first time using horses and vet was along for the trip of experienced riders. Wranglers were good and took excellent care of the horses. I own horses and consider them special friends. I used a Rocky Mountain trotting horse. I had a choice of 150 horses with all breeds available. Cowboy rodeo with city slickers was a blast. I did not win because of skill and not horse power.James L MD

My husband and I went here one morning and had only decided to the night before. Neither of us have ridden before but the people at smoke tree were really helpful and understanding. We only did the 1 hr ride because it was our first time but we really enjoyed it. We showed up there at 10:30 to ride at 11. It was simple to sign up, get the gear and then we left right on time. I would definitely go back if ever in the area again.
The staff were friendly and helpful, though not much instruction was given. The trail was lovely but super dusty. The horses were delightful.
We arrived 30 minutes early, as suggested on their website, and in anticipation the stables would be busy given the holiday. From the moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles. I wish I knew the name of the gal at the desk. She was very friendly and able to easily answer every question with ease. Within minutes of arrival our liability forms were signed, we were issued our gear and eagerly waited to be in the saddle. Another friendly face approached us. He asked of any previous experience, which we both said, “it’s been a while.” Horses were brought out and we were matched to horses. Individually, we were given assistance to get on the horse then given explicit instructions. Alex and Joy were our guides. Alex led the group. I was in front so I had more interaction with Alex. Alex was awesome...he pointed out things I would’ve never seen on my own. Clearly, he knows the trails. He also took personal interest in us which made it a more personable ride. I could hear Joy in the back talking with other riders in our small group. As a team, they made sure all riders enjoyed their time. The ride was S M O O T H. The horses were all very calm and followed direction well. When we returned to the stables, Alex took pics of us while still on the horses to commemorate our time then provided assistance during dismount.We will back again! 15 years in the desert...I can’t believe this was my first time.THANK YOU for making this such an awesome experience.

Best horse back riding trip I have ever been on. The trail guid was a joy to be ridding with, felt like a friend from the start. Horses were good for my hole family ages 12-41. They have a good horse for everyone. A must if you have never been.

Really easy. Just show up a little early and soon you are on the saddle and going into the canyon. We did the 2 hour one and drove up to the beginning of the trail. They had horses ready for us. Kids enjoyed it and was simple to learn for first timers like us.

Red Dead Redemption Experience! Very calm horses and friendly guides. 2hr or 1hr trek are both fun. 2hr trek has a river of sorts in it and you may get a chance to gallop!
Booking is a pain. They want you to be there at a certain time, but we ended up waiting another hour for our tour. The scenes are beautiful in the Canyon ride, but there was no direction when we booked. So we didnt know we had to drive to another location for our tour. Also the horses seem a little sad. Kind of gives an insight of their mistreatment.
Really friendly boarding and Trail horse rental stable in Palm Springs. It is adjacent to the wash, very near to the Indian Canyons, which makes for very Scenic riding.
We went there winter 2018 for the 1 hour trail tour and we had to go back,We just took the Indian canyon tour it was an amazing experience the tour guide was wonderful and the customer service is amazing.We are defiantly coming back.
The ride was amazing, Blue is such a badass and very knowledgeable in many areas including horses and the area we rode in. Give that man a raise!

Came in here for a ride with experienced friends, turns out I had a dormant phobia of riding, and had to go back less than halfway through the trail... The thing is, everyone was so supportive and kind even though I know it was a huge inconvenience. This friendly place will forever have my appreciation and I wish them all the very best.

The owner Stacy is outright rude and disrespectful to customers. Unfortunately Ive discovered that this tends to be the case with most employees under the Smoke Tree brand. Someone needs to give them all refresher course on customer service. They tend to act like theyre doing you a favor by providing their service.
There staffs are friendly. The horses are big and well trained. Like it.
