Had an aggravating experience with the owner. He had not provided a product (aka filed tax return), but was insistent he could not refund my 200 dollars his cheap franchise charged me. He hastily printed out a half completed tax return and sent me on my way. Bottom line, they did not do their best for a customer and did whatever they could to get me out the door and pocket my 200 dollars. Horrible product, self interested owner.

Didnt get the Rapid Refund, which is the reason I came in. Otherwise, Sharon was awesome and did quite a bit to maximize my refund.

I have done my taxes at this H&R Block for the past 3 years since I moved here. Each year, I have to use a different tax professional because the one I used last year is no longer there, or unavailable. If you are using them for the basics (which you can do yourself by the way,) they are ok. But, if you have anything that is not mainstream, it is a nightmare. Of course, my preparer from last year is not there this year, so I was given a new preparer. And this is where it gets really bad. She was a very nice person. She really was. But she had no idea how to help me. Her calculations had me paying over $7500 in taxes that I knew I wasnt responsible for. In fact, I should have been receiving about that much! In her defense, it is because of the annoying way Fidelity does their statements that made it muddy, but I was still frustrated because the same thing had happened the past three years! I am not sure how tax professionals can have so much trouble understanding how to process simple investments on a tax return! We agreed that I would get in touch with Fidelity and come back at 2 pm. I went home, perused the tax reporting statement from Fidelity and identified what we needed to do to accurately account for each trade and the gains/losses associated with each. (Mind you, this is a $15,000 impact to me financially, so it is a big deal!) When I arrived, I was told that she was with a client. So I waited. Another tax preparer was there and she asked if she could take a look at what I was talking about with my specialist. I walked her through the inaccuracy. She then proceeded to argue with me and explain (inaccurately) how I was being charged taxes on my options on top of the taxes I was already charged and that I was accountable to the taxes on the total amount of the share, not on the part i received financially. Again, inaccurate! I walked her through the math, but she continued to argue with me so I gave up and decided then and there, that I was going to buy some tax software and try this out myself.After almost half an hour with no communication, I told the receptionist that i would just like to get copies of the tax forms (W-2, 1099s etc) that I had brought in and I would just come in for an appointment on Monday. She went and told my tax preparer. Who then took another 30 minutes to come up and talk to me. She then told me she thought I was not going to use her as a preparer and brought me all my originals with a sign to form that I was not using them this year. I told her that I did still want to use her, I just wanted to make sure I had copies as I didnt feel comfortable leaving the only copies I had. ( I needed to keep this as an option in case I couldnt file myself.) She went to the back to make copies and was gone for another long stretch. When she came back up, she had made no copies and had me sign the darn form anyway! It was obvious that she had done nothing more than go outside for repeated smoke breaks (I could smell it on her each time) and did not try and expedite helping me at all. I am not sure what the requirements are to work at H&R Block, but I would expect that the people they employ would be CPAs and have training that I do not to justify the $400 they charge me to file my return. I bought a copy of Turbo Tax Premier for In Store Pick Up at Best Buy ($80) on my phone while waiting in their office. I picked it up after the appointment, went home, entered everything myself and magically, it all worked out the way I was explaining to the experts at H&R Block! The software even links to your Fidelity Account and autopoulates all transactions so you dont have to manually enter them! Magic! Long story short, I would not recommend this H&R Block to friends, family or anyone else as I feel they do not have the training required to handle more complex returns, nor do they seem to care about their customers. Aside from the receptionist, who is DELIGHTFUL, the team was very disappointing to me. Turbo Tax is a more cost effective and accurate solution.
